Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 107 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (219 of 282 positive).

Players praise the game's historical setting and story, which avoids idealizing the Hussites. [1][2][3] Many reviewers find the combat system clunky and frustrating, often battling controls more than enemies. [4][5][6] The game is noted for its exceptional accessibility options for visually impaired players. [7][8][9]

It's kind of a weird game, but not fully in the good sense (as would be in case of, say, Disco: Elysium). The graphics is simplistic, but the art style is excellent. The plot is highly reminiscent of the old classic Darklands. The problem is that the gameplay is quite thin: lot of walking around shifting between torch and sword, fighting boring duels - where you fight the terrible controls more than the enemies. The …

”Ye who are God’s warriors and of his law…” Just hearing these first words of this Hussite war song might have instilled fear in people, and 1428: Shadows over Silesia hauntingly shows why. Not only that Hussites were brave warriors; they also were vicious raiders, pillaging villages and murdering those they did not deem worthy in the eyes of God. Just like many other Christians did for their cause. Nevertheless, …

I love this game! But unfortunately, this game ISN'T FOR EVERYONE, THIS GAME IS HARD. Story is amazing. In game are 2 playable characters - hussite Hynek and johanit knight Lothar, but you can't choose them. It is set which character is main in every chapter of game. Every chapter is different, and you must choose carefully your attitude - fight, stealth or run away. For me was the best chapters with stealth. …

Finally: a roleplaying game (mostly) set in a historical time period! It's a unique time period to set a game in general in: The Hussite War. I love the setting of the game and found the story quite instresting, but the experience is unfortunately totally destroyed by the controls. The fights are just too frustrating when you battle the controls more than your enemies. I would love to see the story out, but sadly I can't make myself continue. I have tried both keyboard and mouse and controller. Both are equally bad.

Firstly, I’d like to thank the developers for creating this fantastic game. As a devoted medieval fan, it satisfies my desire to explore my route, Europe. As a completely blind person, I can experience this game as a gamer, just like every other mentioned individual. I hope this game garners more views and reaches a wider audience because it truly is a masterpiece. Secondly, I enjoyed the gameplay, and the mechanics are impressive. The combat could be slightly improved, and I hope the player…

Great story and fun to play. Loving the options to solve the problems and stealth part of the game. It is not perfect but probably wasn't intended to be, old school game with challenging difficulty but nothing crazy. The game will challenge you and reward you with great story. Combat really matters and even so you can defeat 4 opponents at once, even the lonely peasant can hurt you if take him lightly.

TLDR version = Game has potential. Cool setting. But overall it is clunky and often unnecessarily obtuse. Avoid! Rambling verbose version - The setting is interesting - very much not yet another generic high fantasy - and there are glimpses of moody cinematics and perhaps a cool story here. But the clunky controls and old-style gameplay ruin it. Don't get me wrong, I quite like old style stuff on occasion. I started playing games back in 1980! But intentional clunk and inconsistent…

I hate this game. It is a repetative, boring, tedious, bugged pile of ♥♥♥♥ that is somehow priced at 30 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dollars. Action mechanics are pathetic. Every battle you just circle around your enemy waiting them to start their attack animation and then attack them while they are locked in it, that's it, same ♥♥♥♥ every battle. Half of enemies plain and simple are OP and break the game: dogs that make your character fall on the ground with their attacks, flying skulls that are impossible to hit…

Hard to recommend this one. Impossible controls for a game that has you fighting every few minutes for no reason at all. There are no skills, no strategy, just carefully backtracking and trying to bottle neck the dozens of enemies so you can swing at all of them and hope you score some hits. Whenever your weapon is drawn the character moves in slowmotion. There is no friendly damage so battles are as tactical as pressing a mouse button. Crosbowmen are overpowered as they can easily hit you…

This game is bad in every sense. Horrible controls that lead to awful clunky combat, terrible stealth that feels like a afterthought, and a boring story that quickly devolves into demons and skeletons. That acting is bad, the sound design is a mess, and the graphics make runescape look like art. Every 2 seconds in this game there is a puzzle where you just end up going through your inventory picking things at random to see if they work. There are 12 chapters and by the time you complete…

Graphics and music are quite good, some puzzles are challenging and that is where pros end. Gameplay in this game is pretty bad, combat system is slow and stiff, but I can forgive that since it is small indie title. What I can not forgive is a blend and random story that could have take place in any medieval times and region. We get typical fighting with skeletons, demons and devil worshippers. There is not much said about local customs and habits, important facts are spilled in unpleasant,…

It´s not bad and has a interesting story BUT when simple ♥♥♥♥ doesnt have a solution (e.g. getting stuck in a corner because someone from your squad follows you and they cant move and therefore you cant move) then it shouldn´t be sold as a 1.0 version. The combat is wonky as ♥♥♥♥ and often hard to see even on a large screen and gameplay-wise it feels a bit like a story driven railshooter then an rpg. Some people might enjoy this but I personally, don´t.

The game has a lot of promise, the story has a real grey on grey morality feel about it and the whole time period around the events is massively under shown in games and other medias, the voice work is solid and the lore in game is good, unfortunately the title is let down by massively clunky combat and camera systems which suck the fun out of the game, you will die more often than not to having the camera facing the wrong way then anything else and attacks feel slow and clunky with sluggish…

Overall a nice polished game with great story, art and voice acting. Gameplay is nicely balanced - mix of exploration, combat, puzzles, stealth, problem solving and more. Blend of real historical events with dark fantasy is a spot on. However, there is a lot of frustrating moments in puzzles and combat, such as unclear solutions to problems or fights that end by you getting stunlocked and killed immidiately. Still, the game is a great adventure and definitely worth a try!

When I found this game through the Discovery Queue, I was wondering why such a game wasn't more popular since it seemed well done and well received based on the Steam page and reviews. But I found out quite quickly when I tried to play it that it is indeed something very niche, clunky, and not cohesive. The setting and story seem to be the main focus of the game, and from what I've seen, it does seem like it would be an interesting story to see through. However, the gameplay drags the whole…

You ever play a game that is just average and wonder why you finished it? Shadows of Silesia is that game that most people will never play. Because it's got a weird janky directional-based combat system and a low budget style that might put off most people, but when you look at it in a different way, it's got a charm to it: https://youtu.be/pLxUg9NjmsE I don't know why I got this, as the history of this country I didn't know existed before playing this, wasn't the draw. A good game, but with some flaws. The art and music are great, the historic background involved and the storytelling are also mixed on a entertaining way. Like it's really fun at some levels, like trying to better position yourself in the field, running and attacking, then blocking with your shield. It's like fighting zombies, you can't get cornered or flanked, if you do... you're proabably in trouble. The controls aren't easy, a bit like Kingdom Come Deliverance combat, errors may cost you…

Your character drives like a 1960's pleasure boat and has been entered into a bumper car tournament. Game would be fun but is honestly 100% longer than it would be, just due to controls. There are escort missions that take 1+ hours to complete due to this, that when completed would have taken 60 or so seconds. You WILL yell at the game due to controls. if they fix controls 7/10 interesting and fun game. without controls fix... save your money, 3/10. yes it gets that bad. starts off just very…

Maybe it's not the prettiest game in the world (it looks like Runescape on steroids), but the rest of the game is just fun. Really didn't know what to expect after backing this game well over a year ago - 27 hours later and i can safely safe it was a joy to play. The visuals were great, the dialog and voice acting hilariously fantastic and a really engaging (dark) story! The puzzles are right out of 1980/90's puzzle games in terms of difficulty with often minimal clues with relief / exhilaration when you figure it out. Music is ace too. Combat is a bit tricky at first but once mastered it's a breeze, some dodgy…

0/10 Why the zero? This game is an excellent testament to the difference between art and video games, and sadly this is a video game. The soundtrack is spot-on. The story is well put together and perfectly captures the Czech folklore and historical setting. The writing (Czech and English) is hilarious, and dabbing is very good on both accounts. BUT you sadly have to suffer through this with atrocious controls (both on the controller and keyboard with a mouse) and many game-breaking bugs that…

The game is like poor man's kingdom come deliverance and it doesn't even shy away from some references to that title. 1428: Shadows over Silesia, developed and published by KUBI Games, is an unusually bold indie title because it refuses to treat medieval history as a decorative backdrop. Instead, it uses the Hussite Wars—one of Central Europe’s most turbulent and ideologically charged periods—as the emotional and philosophical foundation for its narrative. The game begins grounded in reality, depicting political mistrust, religious upheaval, and social fragility, yet gradually introduces occult elements,…

An amazing game. A lot of love was put into it. It has a lot of historical lore which is also partialy based in local folclore. The controles are quite unusual, but once you get a hold of it, its really fun.

Hi, I really tried to play the game trough but the entire game is only about cluncky combat with terrible controls. Somehow I never seem to be hitting anything, I need to be in the mouth of the enemy to hit someone. The combat completely does not function. The story was good nothing groundbreaking. Switching back and forth from 2 charachters is incredibly boring and breaks the flow of the game. I dont know even tho I played for 6 hours nothing happened in the game. The game is slow and…

Played 15 minutes and I hate this game. First of all, the game is from 2022 - ... and have a very old fashioned, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tank-like controls, resembling controls from the early resident evil games. It was ok 25 years ago, I guess, but today it makes a game pretty unplayable for me. Second is a little hard to explain. In the very beginning the player obliged to exterminate a village. Men, women, even dogs. (dogs, for the god's sake!) But you know what? There is no children in the village. And you…

I'm currently at Chapter 5 and can already tell that this game is a masterpiece, a little jewel some might say. I have no idea how big the team for this game has been, but I hope that the devs know that they made something special. Looking forward to continue ! ( the music is really good too! ) - ( After completing the game ) - This game is fantastic, not perfect, but very well made. Like I mentioned in my previous comment above, the game is special mostly for how immersive and detailed it is.…

I haven't felt so good about a completed game in a long time. I can easily recommend the game. I like the world in which the game takes place and the story is handled quite well and engaging. As for the game itself and its mechanics, I rate it as follows: - rotating the camera is not very good and is rather harmful, a static and adapted environment would be better - the battle system isn't bad at all, but it's unplayable on normal difficulty (for me - I changed the AI in the settings) and I…

This is a great game! It does a lot of things really well. Simple but very effective graphics. Surprisingly atmospheric. Great music, though it blends so well into the game that I hardly notice it. Varied gameplay: sneaking, solving puzzles, combat, running from enemies. Very good voice acting. Combat is about right for the game: not complicated but it's not just spamming a button. It takes a bit of practice to get the timing right. There's an arena mode where you can just practise combat,…

So far I'm enjoying the game. I'm hooked on the story, and I started to like the characters. The atmosphere, music and visuals are nice. The combat feels good. I like that the gameplay is systemic.

Pros: -Fun and refreshing adventure in nice medieval setting -Good storytelling -Encrypted letters! Cons: -Clumsy controls and camera -Sometimes technical implementation is not perfect. People models are awkward. Overall limited budget is too well seen -Some puzzles have weird solutions. For example: I need to add laxative into man's wine. I have a wine and a laxative bottle in inventory and spent hours trying to add it. The "correct" solution was to add laxative into the whole barrel…

I'll start by saying the game wasn't what I expected. I was hoping for a story set during the Hussite Wars with a plot actually based on those events. Instead, they serve mostly as a backdrop for a story filled with mysticism and a heavy dose of fantasy. The description mentioning fantasy 'elements' is unfortunately misleading, and it needs to be emphasized that this is not a historical game. The story itself isn't particularly gripping, either. It's not bad, just average. However, the…
