It's sad to give this game a negative review, because the concept is great and I'm sure the devs really tried, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Editing some points of my review due to a nice response from the devs about the custom game options. It fixes some of my issues, but also adds some new problems, so unfortunately I still didn't enjoy the game enough to recommend it. Positives: - Very cute …

I had a cute little bee guy die to the first boss. I'm much later in the game now and my team still brings it up every now and again in dialogue. 10/10 would have my heart ripped out again

I stopped playing this game for nearly two years because I was about to fight a boss and I was scared of losing one of my Abomis. I finally worked up the guts to play again and managed to beat the boss, only to lose my very first Abomi in the next area. I screamed at my computer in absolute horror and then sat in dead silence, staring at my screen for several minutes. My entire team mourned. One of my Abomis became …

Positives: very refined gameplay - nearly every single mechanic is incredibly polished, fun to use and you are encouraged to use it without demanding it very accessible and replayable - Many different options to customize your runs and difficulty for your Preferences very little RNG to be found - almost all abomis are viable and the game tells you exactly how damage calculations go, what moves do what with abomis on …

TLDR: Game is charming, addictive, and fun. Would recommend if you are willing to support an indie developer and pay the $20 full price. This game has so much charm to its characters and creature designs (sort of a so ugly they're cute approach). I was taken back by how much I liked talking to my team and interacting with NPCS. There are some shared dialogue between your teammates here and there but it isn't a big …

Positives: .Emulates the feel of a nuzlocke really well. .Super transparent battle system allows you to know exact numbers. Especially useful considering may battles are a matter of life and death. .Different options such as a hard mode and a custom mode are available from the very beginning .Replayability is a huge plus Neutral (for lack of a better word):…

neutral · AI labelView post →As a warning to any potential buyer, my only emphasis will be regarding the game's marketing being (unintentionally) misleading, the roguelike tag can entirely be ignored. If you're looking for a roguelike game, this isn't one at all, however it's also a very good game, you've been warned. Very fun and unique take on the Monster Collection genre I've had the chance of beta testing, while it's not truly a roguelike in the proper sense of the term, it has slight rogue elements that help make it…

neutral · AI labelView post →A good concept for a game but poor execution. The design aesthetic itself is not a problem, but the naming conventions and designs are... inconsistent and kinda cheesy. The gameplay is slow and the framerate is bad so the game feels like it takes forever while you're not even accomplishing much. Fights are very matchup dependent which means they snowball based on who is your lead Abomi and the typing chart is unique so you really need to learn it before you attempt the game seriously. The UI is…

neutral · AI labelView post →Terrible UI: no mouse at all, no way to rebind 'basic' keys like 'select', really obfuscated stats/options, proportions of windows are all off, text too small for the window size, etc, etc.. Beyond that, the game is super slow and even doing the tutorial doesn't really teach you anything useful. I'm all for single-person devs executing on a vision, but this one is waaay too rough to recommend. Feels like it's still in beta. You have to be *really* into creature collectors to bear through…

neutral · AI labelView post →I REALLY enjoyed this game. Surprisingly, in a season of "mon game every month" I actually enjoyed this one the most (SMT V was too grindy, and Monster Rancher simply wasn't for me, and I got turned off from BDSP because of perma-EXP Share being back). But I love the Mystery Dungeon-esque feel of this game, the artstyle of the Abomis, the designs of the abomis, the WEALTH of options for the runs and within the runs... This game is another penny in the jar about why I barely support AAA games…

neutral · AI labelView post →I've gone back and forth on this game for a while, I really liked the premise and the cover art for it looked very cute and appealing. I was really disappointed with the actual in game art in comparison, the skedeerdle is very cute as pictured on the page here but in game is a kind of ugly gaudy bright green and all the abomis kind of looked like clip art, however it grew on me very quickly after seeing some game play footage so I went ahead and bought it. The game itself is very fun! The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, this game feels like it was built around the unique characters and battle system, and then the development team used some scotch tape to stick the rest of the game onto it. It could have been great, but it seems like the team worked really hard on what they were most interested in and dropped the ball on everything else. This has a really cute and creative premise, using permadeath and ever-changing maps is something that I can see a lot of gameplay possibilities for. But the game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really tried to like this game given my absolute love for creature collectors, but Pokemonesque mechanics don't mix well with roguelikes IMO. It seems that each run might take a significant time investment that I don't have.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Originally posted on [url=http://www.dragon-quill.net/abomi-nation/]Dragon Quill. Comments are enabled there. Abomi Nation is a roguelike mons RPG — essentially, an entire game built around a randomizer Nuzlocke. I think this is a pretty smart pairing — the biggest problem in mons games is that it’s infeasible for a single player to use more than a small fraction of the total roster, so by building the game around multiple playthroughs and randomizing your team each run, you get to appreciate…

neutral · AI labelView post →If you can't choose your team, and you can't grind levels for bosses, then you don't really get much agency when it comes to having a successful run or not. The game's systems make it clear what the optimal move is in just about every scenario, yet even following the optimal path can lead to failure because of questionable design decisions. I'd prefer more skill-based gameplay. The game seemed promising for a while but quickly became frustrating because runs are more or less down to luck.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd love to give this game a postive review, because I really enjoyed my time with it, but I ran into a bug at the end that makes me unable to finish the game, so I can't reccomend it sadly. The game itself is quite fun - its basically a Nuzlock made its own game. Its also more or less a rougelike, but the focus on this aspect isnt to heavy, Nuzlock definity describes it better. Your monsters stay dead when they die, and you also cant freely choose your team because you get a random monster…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i suck at writing reviews but: me like game :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fine, I'll admit it, I cheated on my playthrough of this, after the first two deaths of my party I would restart the game mid-battle whenever someone died to a super effective attack. I did not beat the game legitimately and I am a fraud.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a delight full of pain. You lost a friend? You will be aware that you lost that friend. I got two abomis to partner....and then 1 died immediately. So many deaths, so many victories, Can you succeed?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most interesting takes on the creature capturing genre, and a very underrated one at that. The art style may look weird to some people at first, but I personally find it charming and it'll surely grow on you. The gameplay feels well designed and usually when something happens, I usually only have myself to blame for that mistake (maybe besides this one critical hit that costed me a member but it happens). The pacing feels nice too, no wild encounter felt too tedious and I usually…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a dedicated nuzlocke game! Its pretty alright. I will say that it has basically no business having a crit stat. I got thrown into a surprise boss battle, and the first two member of my otherwise very strong, well adapted team, died to two consecutive critical hits. Some options to speed up animations would be great. Music is kinda annoying ngl, and the control scheme is a little bit of a nightmare, but thats fixable. All in all, I'm having fun, but I wish they would have put a bit more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haven't played the game yet completely, but from what I've seen it's quite the interesting title. Right now though, there is an issue of optimization. Currently the game is at times unplayable due to slowdown despite using a computer that can play VR games on their highest quality without any issue. I'll repurchase this game when these issues are solved.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been playing for hours. Love the game. Very Addicting. I still have not won yet, but we have been trying soul links lol. Found some minor bugs. Developer is very responsive and timely releasing patches Top Notch Work.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: The described bugs are fixed now and the dev seems to be willing to fix them as they come. That is great. Original review: I wish I could give neutral reviews on Steam. For now, I recommend the game, with a few caveats: * The game feels like creature collector first and a roguelike second. Runs in this game seem to take a lot longer than you'd usually expect from a roguelike to the point that I'm actually splitting them in multiple sessions. I don't mind, since I know the drill from…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abomi Nation is a thoughtfully designed indie RPG developed by Orange Pylon Games and published by DANGEN Entertainment that reinterprets the familiar creature-collecting formula through the lens of roguelike structure and high-stakes decision-making. Rather than offering a fixed world and permanent party growth, the game places players on a mysterious island that is regenerated with each run, ensuring that no two journeys unfold in exactly the same way. This approach immediately sets the tone…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rouge-like monster tamer games are what I feel like is a bit rare but this game has some decent charm that makes it interesting enough. Its gameplay has similarities to tried and true nuzlocke runs as even though you can build up a solid team of what you have been given, its only a matter of time before one bad hit screws you over and the permadeath mechanic kicks in (at the very least you don't have to worry about group level grinding). In other words, it has a good amount of difficulty that…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty good monster-collecting roguelike. It has a lot monsters (but not too much) and plenty of items that can boost them. The only downside is that it can get monotonous quickly. A run of this game lasts 3+ hours and that's with animations turned off.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really really fun. Would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely perfect game. Its a pokemon game designed around a nuzlocke challenge, so it is actually fun, balanced, and harder.
