I wish I could give a middling score, but only because it was on sale for $5. Full price would be an absolute negative review, so here we are. The game itself isn't technically bad in any way, but the game constantly gives you every reason to go as slow as humanly possible, and makes going fast mostly pointless. Enemies move at a glacial pace, so getting and staying behind them is basically impossible, and when …

Close to Perfection ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN is a glorious and visually stunning love letter to arcade flight combat. It successfully recaptures the magic of the series' peak, delivering a pure, unfiltered power fantasy of being an elite fighter pilot. From the moment you tear through the clouds, you're treated to some of the most exhilarating dogfights in gaming. https://youtu.be/MZeNlMpx24w The core gameplay is …

- Great flying and dogfighting - Great feel and visuals - Awful missions About half the missions so far are fun and the other half are complete crap. Mission design brings the game down a lot. They tried to make very mission unique, which i respect, but the gimmicks they are using constantly pull you away from what it actually fun about playing the game. They are constantly working against the fun factor. Will see …

This game was a magical experience. And it's my first step into the Ace Combat series. I never had any interest in any "flight simulation", much less an arcade-y one. However, I'm somewhat of a musicophile. When I saw that AC8 trailer during the TGA 2025, and heard the music, I decided that I need to get into this series. Honestly, I was expecting an average plane game where you shoot down things with missile, or …

There is a very real thrill to the motion of a divebomb or an evasive maneuver that this franchise has been capitalizing on for ages now. There is a reason why Ace Combat has been quietly surviving with both a dedicated fanbase and wandering military aviation nerds, that being the fact that this is the furthest thing you can get from some cashgrab simulation flight sim. It's sole focus is making you feel like a …

I had a lot of fun while playing it, and it managed to become one of my favorite games. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game after playing some of the older PS2 Ace Combat games of which I really enjoyed. This game was mostly the same as those game play-wise in my experience. Over-all I just played through the main campaign and I had a lot of fun, and I will have more fun with the game, as I try to complete the air craft tree, I found the game really immersive. The game worked amazingly through Proton out of the box, and I did not encounter any stability issues.

By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. I had no idea what I was walking into but for £3.99, it was worth a try. GOOD. LORD. This game is incredible. I was expecting to just mess around shooting a few planes and that would be that. Somehow, each mission becomes more complex and gives you something new to think about. The story is compelling enough to continue on and care about the characters and your voiceless character…

So when I saw this game on sale, I decided to get it. From the moment I lifted off the the runway in that 1st mission, hearing that soundtrack, it felt like something in my soul was healing. A joy I didn't know still existed within me burst forth. As I played the game, I reach a mission about 1/3 of the way into the game and it kicked my…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can assure everyone, this is one of the best arcade arial combat games out there. The other's are either too childish or so realistic that it is way too complicated to play as an leisure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man, the characters just NEVER shut up. At some point, it stops being a mission and starts sounding like discord voice chat during a ranked match with a losing team. The game is GOAT though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I freaking love Ace Combat. Went back and replayed 4, 5, and 0 on the Steam Deck after having played this one. Seriously, highly recommended. Make sure you get the mod to restore cut content as well for additional replay-ability. The DLC is way too expensive though. Would pass on it for the most part unless you like giving away money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game! I recently developed interest in fighter jets and this game is making learning about them enjoyable. I love how the models are very accurate and the graphics are amazing. The sound engine could use a boost though. This game makes me want to get a pilot joystick controller thing as well, but the xbox controller is fine for now. I'll be getting the other similar game later too.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while not the best AC, it's pretty damn good, the dlc missions are among the best in the series, which more than makes up for the sorta mid first half of the game this game has unfortunately attracted the worst kind of peoples, VR gimmick users and Flight sim fanatics, if it wasn't for them this game would have an overwhelmingly positive rating also you HAVE TO PLAY THE PS2 GAMES, the story expects that you do
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wrote this review for anyone who is excited for Ace Combat 8 and is considering getting this game based on that hype. It's a good game, but there are some things worth noting, especially if it's your first time playing a game in this series, or a flight-based game in general (you may just learn why nearly every game has an "invert look/Y-axis" option). Long story short: this is a very good game that is worth getting. It runs well and looks great, And it has a simple but endlessly fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is OK but some mission timers are so unforgiving they made me lose interest in the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played Ace Combat 7 in the past on PlayStation 3, mostly through its PvP, and I spent quite a lot of time with it back then. At the time I did not have access to the full campaign, so most of my experience was limited to multiplayer where I had already unlocked almost everything available. Now in 2026 I decided to revisit the game again on Steam and finally experience the campaign properly. I currently have around fifteen hours in the game and my goal is to complete it fully and work towards…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I genuinely enjoyed flying through Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. After more than 30 hours, unlocking high-tier aircraft like the F-22A and replaying missions I liked, the game still felt satisfying rather than repetitive. The aerial combat is smooth and fun, giving that classic arcade jet-flying thrill without being overly complicated. What stood out most was the atmosphere — the feeling of being a fighter pilot in the sky is simply enjoyable. Story overall is great, with insane Belkan (Deutsch)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This franchise will forever hold a special place in my heart, the story although not the best from the franchise it was a vital revival by namco, these games have always shared the same message when you travel through the endless skies. And oh my god the soundtrack in all the ACE COMBAT franchise is beautiful please listen to it, Cant wait till next year for 8 <3 (btw i have like 800 hours on xbox but not here not yet.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really tried to like this, but it's just one disapointing mission after the other. I think the underlying problem is manufactured pressure. AC7 creates difficulty with timers, weather gimmicks, and invincible scripted aces. The convict storyline seems kind of fitting with how the game design treats the player.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I pre-ordered this game years ago when it first released on PS4. I have been a longtime fan of the series for decades now, and I wasn't going to miss out on the latest release. I played through the campaign missions so many times, earning all of the medals and achievements, and the only reason I never fully 100%'d the game is because of some multiplayer stuff (and I never really have cared for multiplayer stuff in gaming, Im a single player kind of guy). All these years later, I have fully…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good, but for me personally not as good as Project Wingman (gameplay wise). The timelimit is a bit annoying for some of the missions, besides that..pretty solid so far.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ace Combat 7 Review Ace Combat 7 is a fast-paced arcade plane combat game with an excellent campaign, satisfying gameplay, and an amazing soundtrack. It offers a wide variety of missions, aircraft, and loadouts. How the gameplay is like? The gameplay isn't realistic like a flight simulator, but it's really fun. The campaign has a good variety of missions, from air-to-air, air-to-ground, and air-to-ship combat to flying through sandstorms, thunderstorms, and canyons. There are even boss fights…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Coming to this game wanting to zoom around in some flying death machines that feel cool to shoot, cool to fly and cool to look at I was already really happy. Then getting killer music, characters to attach to, cheesy dialogue to break up the tension and some insane scenarios on top of that I truly could not be happier with what I got out of this game. Can't wait for 8.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is an air-combat action game that combines accessible controls with cinematic presentation. Its campaign follows a fictional conflict in the Strangereal universe, using a mix of political tension, personal stories, and high-stakes missions to create a focused narrative backdrop without relying on real-world events. Flight handling is intentionally stylized. Aircraft respond quickly, maneuvers are exaggerated, and combat emphasizes speed and spectacle rather than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, but multiplayer is plagued by cheaters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Ace Combat cheese that you know and love (or hate) is done perfectly once again. Some of the mission mechanics have you doing things differently just for the sake of doing them differently and it can be challenging in ways you may not be looking for.. That is the only, potentially, low point of the game for me. Float around, shoot things, get shot at, fly into buildings accidently. Good simple fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →super dope on the steam deck but mannnnn does it eattt the battery i completely understand why though
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really fun and trippy story with a hint of Kojima-shrooms! It isn't long, but it's fun and has a good sense of humor to it. The flight controls with KB/M are also very simple and easy to get the hang of. Can be configured to handle very similarly to Battlefield. And the majority of what you do is fire guided missiles, so it's also pretty easy and accessible even if you you're new to flying jets. PS. I only played the campaign, so can't say anything about the MP.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the biggest advantages I think the game has is not being very "realistic", because if it were as realistic as a flight simulator then it'd be less attractive to normal players. Another pro is its dramatic story. Namco didn't make the game very complicated or look like rocket science, instead they just merely balanced the script and the mechanics. I'd say if it's the first time you have played a flight shooter, then don't be afraid cuz it might be the very one you've been looking for.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have not played too many flying games, I was mainly in it for the story. The story behind this game was great. The game play is arcade-ish for a flying game. I love the completeness of the story, and the way it made me feel like i was apart of it. Wish more games had that. There were a few parts that were a little tough, but overall I'd say the game was very enjoyable for the story. I don't see myself going back and replaying the story as the upgrade system is kind of weak. Other…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Two days before donning the mantle of The Wings of Theve, it's time for me to finally review Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. A singularly special game in a singularly special franchise. Ace Combat has remained with me since I was a little boy. I wasn't fortunate enough to have played many different entries in the series, but I played and replayed ACX endlessly on the good old PlayStation Portable. Even then, I was entranced by what I was playing. A crescendo of music, sound design, action, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →20 missions all full of beautifully rendered cutscenes and high octane action. I truly felt like an ace pilot. Also use a controller cause the mouse and keyboard controls feel like poo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 story, gameplay, and visuals. best played on controller!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The support for joysticks is very poor. I don't want to buy a new one because Namco couldn't even deliver a simple configuration tool for mapping devices they didn't oficially support.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game brought me to the franchise and the arcade flight genre. its one of the best things ive ever experienced. i never thought anime-esque story and writing, flying jets that define gravity with gundam battles was a mix i would end up adoring. im so excited for ace combat 8
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The perfect mix between a full on arcade game and a flight sim, it can take a bit of time to get the hang of if you haven't played the genre before, but it's well worth it for the frequent 90% sale price. AC8 is gonna be amazing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So many unfun missions of trying to rake up stupidly high score in a small time limit. You stop enjoying the flying part and dogfighting part, having to ingore airborn enemy in favor of doing pass after pass on ground objectives. It just becomes a grind for points on targets that stop being fun to shoot at which just creates annoyance.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really good game best one in series if you like this project wingman is the next best thing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought during the winter sale at less than $5 (USD) Very fun gameplay, not a true simulation by any means, but provides a tight and engaging "dogfight" gameplay and plenty of mission variety in the campaign to keep you engaged. The progression/unlock system for new aircraft and modifications is also very rewarding, and offers a good incentive to replay a mission to get more points towards unlocks. Story is secondary to gameplay IMO, and as a first timer to the series, familiar locations…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you play with controller, changing the left-stick deadzone shape to square makes all the difference in the world. It'll make the game go from feeling *worse* than console to feeling *way better.*

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of people say that this game is basically Call of Duty, but with planes. And you know what? They are pretty much right. And honestly, that's a cool thing. The game is quite arcadey in many ways, but it does a really good job of capturing the whole aesthetic of military aviation. There are a huge number of planes to choose from, with all kinds of shapes and designs from different eras. So whatever kind of aircraft you like, there's probably something here for you. And that's actually…
