negative · AI labelView post →Born 17 Jan 1962, actor Jim Carrey. His breakthrough film came with "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (1994) but I particularly loved his performance in "The Cable Guy" (1996), directed by Ben Stiller, because he played such a scary, chilling but gelievable character. #JimCarrey
neutral · AI labelView post →It's the whole disgusting, offensive plot of the first Ace Ventura movie. It's the twist in The Crying Game. And one of the Naked Guns! If you marathon The Simpsons, you get two episodes in a row that make shitty jokes aimed at trans women - and they're *good* episodes. It was just ubiquitous.
neutral · AI labelView post →"Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" ends on a "trans people are disgusting" joke so over-the-top it makes the rest of the movie look restrained and intelligent. This wasn't transgressive humor like "Borat" it was a mainstream comedy pitched at kids.
negative · AI labelView post →It just occurred to me that part of why Jim Carrey's turn as Dr. Robotnik has been received as a fresh take on the character without much commentary that he's lazily recycling his persona from every film he did in the mid 1990s is because most of the audience is too young to have seen "Ace Ventura".
neutral · AI labelView post →12 year old me: there is no funnier movie than Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and no funnier man than Jim Carrey, and no better use of my time than developing the best possible impersonation of his shtick Current me: Jesus fucking Christ, memory is a curse, you weren't even a boy as it turns out
neutral · AI labelView post →The Mask is as Transsexual a film as Ace Ventura is Antitranssexual a film
neutral · AI labelView post →I knew trans people existed in 1991 because of a little film called The Crying Game, another little film called Silence of the Lambs, and a movie where the trans character is literally the main punchline, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
neutral · AI labelView post →Its really insane that in Ace Ventura he catches a bullet in his teeth, nothing else in the movie is that fantastical
neutral · AI labelView post →I often joke about watching modern movies the way we watch silents. All cinema 1985 to 2025 will be represented by HOME ALONE, ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE, and FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE. No other movies were made, no other genres explored. The end. It would be ridiculous but that’s Silent Movie 101
neutral · AI labelView post →It's a little abrupt, but the "original ending" to ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE, before they did test screenings and ended up having to do massive reshoots, does solve a lot of problems I have with the third act of the film. I'm surprised it doesn't get talked about more!
neutral · AI labelView post →It's sociopathic that the movie Ace Ventura is available on streaming services, when it has an extended scene of multiple cis men puking after they realise they've slept with a trans person. In a world where trans people are stabbed for that, that movie should have long been consigned to history. 1/
negative · AI labelView post →I actually think this movie is substantially more transmisogynistic than Ace Ventura
neutral · AI labelView post →unlike Ace Ventura, Dog Day Afternoon is a pretty good movie based on a true story, and selling the rights to it paid for a trans woman's srs.
neutral · AI labelView post →I know he enters a relationship in the first movie and all but I am still troubled by the existence of ACE VENTURA JR: PET DETECTIVE (2009) because it allows for the idea that someone let Ace Ventura cum in them

neutral · AI labelView post →Forgive me the (rightfully) offended trans women at how we were depicted in the first Ace Ventura movie but this scene in the second one is probably the funniest piece of comedy ever written and performed
neutral · AI labelView post →This post reminds me of a random aside: The Ace Ventura cartoon was pretty popular in Italy and I had a bunch of cousins that were surprised to learn he is from a movie and not an original cartoon character
neutral · AI labelView post →I have always spoken about how, in the 1990s, it used to be a punch line for comedy that someone was 'tricked' into having sex with a trans woman, hell, that's what carried the Ace Ventura Pet Detective movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →i saw a few seconds of a single clip and that was my limit. can't imagine sitting through the whole thing i would rather watch something less transphobic, like an Ace Ventura movie
negative · AI labelView post →Tonight's amazing comedy. Yep Ace Ventura a movie almost to funny lol. Needed a laugh after work #filmsky #aceventura #jimcarrey
positive · AI labelView post →"Do not go in there" is from Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Jeez. Who makes this? Do all Jim Carey movies look the same to you? Put on your glasses. See through the masks you proclaim to hate. Please encourage love and understanding through film and comedy. God bless 🙏
neutral · AI labelView post →Been introducing my kids to classic comedies. Tonight was Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. And hoooeeee that was a huge mistake. That film had aged like the nation’s good humour towards Captain Tom Moore’s daughter.
negative · AI labelView post →You know, the irony of this person pretending to stand up for trans people while having their profile picture be from one of the most egregious examples of transmisogyny in film (Ace Ventura 1) is just…..you can’t make this shit up.
neutral · AI labelView post →The 1990s was such a wild time. Almost every movie had a sequence where someone would see a trans woman or be faced with the implication of such and then puke. It was very common and not just a thing of the Ace Ventura movie. From the synopsis of the Naked Gun movies:
neutral · AI labelView post →"Children are brainwashed by the media into thinking there're trans" I talked about wanting to be a girl when I was 7 the only representation of that was from Ace Ventura and Scary Movie and I still transitioned and pissed I lost out of childhood by not transitioning as a child.
neutral · AI labelView post →An entire generation of football fans know something specific about special teams thanks to the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
neutral · AI labelView post →To mildly defend Ace Ventura 2: He's depicted intentionally as a fish out of water jerkass, and the actual villains of the film are Australian poachers and a rich english landowner big game hunter guy trying to start an intertribal war for monetary gain.

neutral · AI labelView post →To celebrate being fired, I, a trans woman, am going to re-watch Ace Ventura: Pet Detective for the first time since childhood. I *loved* this movie as a kid.
positive · AI labelView post →Queer movie pitch: Ace Ace Ventura: pet detective who is somewhere on the asexuality spectrum.

neutral · AI labelView post →Why is Waterboy on this literally at all? Who on God’s green earth would put Ace Ventura over The Jerk and Wayne’s World? did they just put a bunch of movie names in a bag and shake it and see what fell out?
neutral · AI labelView post →your reminder that Alan Rickman was almost cast as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
neutral · AI labelView post →And the entire movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
neutral · AI labelView post →Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was the first time I heard Cannibal Corpse. Best thing about that movie, really.
neutral · AI labelView post →I just got less pushback for saying Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was transphobic than I did for saying "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" was the superior movie and the experience filled me with an absurd spark of hope that we're culturally turning some kind of corner.
neutral · AI labelView post →And I would totally get it if the original movie being remade had dated jokes (oh, hello transphobic joke in Ace Ventura), but unless it’s necessary, leave the OGs alone.
neutral · AI labelView post →Goddamn Ace Ventura. The psychic damage that shitty film inflicted on a generation of trans eggs cannot be overstated.

neutral · AI labelView post →Bizarre thing to watch a film you've never seen before - Ace Ventura - but recognise from the impressions on the playground 20 years ago. Like seeing an old photo of a person who you know as a ghost.
neutral · AI labelView post →We did the last of some tabs we had last night & watched some absolute SHIT movies and I mean dogshit. Ace Ventura! (hate crime) 102 Dalmatians! (not even a film!) Wild.
negative · AI labelView post →Yes! I stumbled onto the opening scene on TV maybe a month or so back and... omg, it slaps SO HARD. It's seriously jaw-dropping even to this day This was my 1st Bond film, & I was too young to see it, & thus it was also the 1st film I'd buy a ticket to Ace Ventura 2 & repeatedly snuck into instead
positive · AI labelView post →I guess it technical made money but [Kung Pow! Enter the Fist](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kung_Pow!_Enter_the_Fist). \ I saw it in theater and remember everyone laughing through the whole thing. Absolutely absurd re-dubbing of a couple of old kung fu movies by the guy that later wrote and directed Ace Ventura and wrote the Jimmy Neutron movie. The reviews were utterly horrible (deservedly) but undeniably funny. I still quote it all the time. \ \ For the unaware that where the…

neutral · AI labelView post →I would rather watch and get to know a trans character like Jax. Who's fleshed out & despite of her flaws (& there are a lot) she still needs love & even she knows it. Than one who's treated like a tasteless butt of the joke in the 1 Ace Ventura film. 2nd film was better anyway.
