Some players note that DLC content is invasively pushed during gameplay. [1][2][3][4]

Great base game that was ruined with tons of overpriced low quality DLC content. It wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't constantly try to push the DLC on you while you play. Base game itself is still good, but I have a hard time supporting a company that acts like this.

This has got to be one of my favorite deck builder game out there. There's an absurd amount of content just in the base game that's able to get you *at least* 100+ hours if you actually decide to try experiencing everything. Each character feels unique and has multiple playstyles which gives a lot of replayability on top of not being limited to a specific team comp. Want to do 4 warriors? 2 Scouts 2 Healers? All …

I’ve spent over 600 hours in this game, so this comes from someone who genuinely enjoyed Across the Obelisk. The core gameplay is fun and I had a great time, especially before the DLC situation got out of control. Since Paradox took over, the game has been flooded with expensive DLCs. You got DLCs that cost the same as the base game. Sometimes, you can get cards from DLCs you don't own which you can't select on your …

Once upon a time, this was a very solid game, and I was excited to see what the future held for the game and its developers. Their first DLC was a bit rough, but it felt like they were taking that criticism and using it to improve themselves and their game. Then they sold to Paradox, and now it's a machine for pumping out mid-to-low quality DLC. $5 for a new character. $10 for a new map. $20 for a bit of both. It's …

Basically, all the recent negative reviews are accurate. Wonderful game prior to Paradox getting their mitts on it, destroyed by the predatory "turn a $30 game into a $300 game" DLC business model of that company. And before the fanboys get started, no you really can't just skip whatever DLCs you don't want. I mean, you CAN, but the game makes it really, really obvious where the giant holes in the game are and it …

He's so handsome with his trim mustache, clean fur and he canonically likes being petted. He was also the only reason I bought the game! Luckily the game is still fun regardless lol. #nsfw

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Almost $91 for a roguelike deckbuilder... wtf? Just go buy Slay the Spire 1 and 2, and also Balatro. At least they don’t lock content behind DLC, and they have great modding support. $24.99 + $24.99 + $14.99 = $64.97 (and they’re already bundled together, which makes it even cheaper). The game isn’t bad, BUT it’s not worth $91, ffs. This isn’t an MMO.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was great a few years ago. It's a light deckbuilder with a campaign that can be played co-op. The flexibility with managing your deck and leveling your heroes makes it possible to find powerful card combinations in almost every run. There's a lot of different pathways to take in the campaign with meta quests along the way allowing for lots of replay value. At least, there was a few years ago. Emphasis on the word WAS great; when I played, there were just a couple of DLCs that would…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I purchased this game when it came out and sunk over 50 hours into it; enjoying the entire time I played very much so however the updates that have been made over the last 4 years make me unable to recommend this game for people to purchase. The gameplay itself is good, it is a great mixture of elements from Slay the Spire and Darkest Dungeon however it is ruined by the obtrusive nature DLC you do not own is shoved in your face has killed a large part of my enjoyment in the choices I make…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paradox is exactly like Electronic Arts. They're selling out the passion in games with DLC's after DLC. It's sad seeing a $30 CAD game become $160, that's a 5x price mark up on a game. disgusting and exploitative. Wait till I tell you about Stellaris, another game of theirs. The base game Costs like $54 CAD, but in DLC's alone has a total value of $520.. talk about a 10x price mark up. If this is the future of gaming, we’re all in trouble. I Don’t support companies that treat players as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like Paradox took over and added a billion DLCs with DLC cards appearing in the base version of the game with you not being able to pick them if you don't own the DLC. Great stuff.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Game... Garbage way to treat your customers with all the DLC's. I used to play this game with my kids, but since I don't want to spend money on this every month we've had to go with other games. the DLC's would be fine if they didn't try to remind you throughout the game ALL THE TIME that you're missing stuff. Good job Dreamsite Gameson for turning your game into a commercial, EA would be proud... Just one step up from having to pay for a subscription service to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, but I cannot recommend it. Paradox took over refused to add mod support, gave us continuous overpriced DLC, then proceeded to not release any meaningful content for the last 4 years. I think we should have a small dev make their OWN VERSION of this because the game was peak before paradox got their filthy greedy disgusting wart having goblin *ss fingers on the game. Paradox has once again stunted a great concept with greed and greed and greed. I hate them. Thank you paradox…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After almost 400 hours in the game and several years of following the development of the otherwise excellent game Across the Obelisk, I feel forced to write a negative review. What started, and for a long time remained, a very well-designed and high-quality multiplayer game has turned into an endless bugfest with the latest paid DLCs. Desyncs when dragging cards, during boss tactics, or while shopping in town are not the kind of issues you only discover after hours of playing. These are things…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely insane, Paradox ruining everything they touch as usual. Check it out with Stellaris or Crusader kings, what a waste of an amazing videogame. It used to be enjoyable, my favourite in a long time since Slay the spire. But now all you see is really overpriced DLCs at every corner of the game, you can't enjoy a simple run without being smacked in the face with Ads to unlock new characters and maps by paying ridiculous prices
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The new dlc introduces a steep price tag, a huge powercreep, a noticeable clash in art and arbitrary design decisions that don't mesh well with what the game had so far. If this is the intended way forward for this game I can't recommend this to anyone
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was good when it first came out, but since then they've slowly destroyed the game and shown a lack of care for their fanbase. They keep making DLCs that make the game unstable and unbalanced. Some of the DLCs cost as much as the base game, while comparatively providing a SMALL FRACTION of content, emphasis on small They have attempted to force players to use the Paradox launcher Redesign of the character selection UI was a downgrade, and now you can't seamlessly see all the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m finding this sale underwhelming, and my backlog is already huge. Might skip it this time. ---- ---- **Edit** - okay, found some good stuff. A lot of the tables for Pinball FX were on deep sales, and with the Legacy packs I got them even cheaper (some I owned for PFX3 already, and some I bought legacy for both). New Heretic+Hexen remaster Some DLC for Across the Obelisk as my wife and I play that one together. Still an underwhelming sale, but at least not a total bust.
neutral · AI labelView post →Loved the game before Paradox took over with it's aggressive DLC strategy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game. I like this game a lot. I think it's very very fun. The surface level design of this game is very easy to engage with but there's tons of content to unlock, mechanics to play around with, builds to create, and strategies that you can employ. It is the perfect example of being simple on the surface but very fun once you learn it, and the multiplayer is very engaging and actually feels like the other players are involved in the game (rather than other multiplayer card games…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How am I suppose to convince friends to get this when there's over $100 dollars in dlc? Had a blast playing this during and before the Wolf Wars, but there's no way I can recommend this game with what its become over the years.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me echo the thoughts of the bulk of players who used to love this game. Main piece of advice - Do NOT buy this game!! The 'Why' It was a satisfying play through before it was butchered by insidiously embedded DLCs and characters. It's not just how they are overpriced, they are forced w./ little value added. They completely ruined vanilla game experience by blocking your routes to force purchase. Don't get me wrong I happily buy DLCs to support a developer, but these are basically…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At one point, this was an incredible game, possibly my favorite card game. Unfortunately once Paradox Interactive acquired the game, they decided to absolutely destroy it. Greedy DLC, unnecessary launcher, selling data, etc. I foolishly keep hoping that it will revert to its former self or someone will make a clone of it that I can support.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Games that almost fit the bill: - Across the Obelisk: Slay the Spire but multiple characters (but not local) - Core Keeper: Great mining game, but the bosses and action gets a bit intense to be chill - Cook Serve Delicious series: Epic cooking together, splitting tasks and getting hand cramps
neutral · AI labelView post →This game was my favorite deckbuilder until Paradox got a hold of it and they started pumping out crazy amounts of DLC.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love and still enjoy Across the Obelisk, but Paradox doing what Paradox does is tarnishing it. I don't even have a problem with a lack of Free-LC, my real issue is the extremely over-priced DLC they do release. The content doesn't make up for the cost. I'd say do better, but let's be honest, they never will. Save your money, and buy it on a deep discount. Otherwise, I'd say stay away. Maybe if they do some community management my review will flip positive, but again, it's Paradox. What can we…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did you really need to add the Paradox launcher for this? No thanks, was a good game but not interested in having to accept a bunch of extra EULA's and Terms of Service agreements and install some garbage just to play the game now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AtO is one of the most unique multiplayer deckbuilders out there, with lots of interesting elements, build options, different activities like dailies and other challenges, and plenty of character/role diversity as well. In theory, virtually any comp can clear the game at its higher difficulties with proper planning and, well, some luck at certain points, but pretty much all the time you could say that your losses are your own for a variety of reasons, not just bad luck. The game is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was a great game, for a time. But the good times never last, and now the product is bloated by greedy, money-grubbing pay-to-win tactics that only dilute the original premise. What a shame, but there are alternatives that don't require a dozen unballanced DLCs or a dubious third-party launcher covered in ads. Try any one of those instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Your expensive dlc is ruining the game. If you purchased this game you basically purchase part of the game and not the complete whole game. Some part of the game can't be access unless you purchase the dlc so buyers beware.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How about considering a free character or area every once in a while...the dlc spam is sickening
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the base game. I even loved some of the expansions. The gameplay is good and the combos are interesting. I enjoyed puzzling out different story options and getting new pets and abilities. The first couple dlcs were fine but at this point I just feel like they keep nickle and diming us for content. Im still frustrated by the launcher addition when this game absolutely didnt need a launcher and it's disappointing as over the years this game went from something I'd give buy cosmetic dlc…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played a ton when this game released, tried to reinstall to see what's changed over the years and... apparently they want me to get a special launcher for this game. Then I look and see that there's $100 dollars of DLC, which in fairness I should point out is optional. Then I look at the reviews and it sounds like bugs have become a huge issue. Sounds like Paradox ♥♥♥♥ the bed and turned this into a worthless money grab when they acquired the game from the original developer. Just trash. If…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game doesn't seperate DLC from main game. You go one path expecting something and it just says you need the DLC for it. Game needs to have each run more balanced and not rely on grinding for additional stats
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old doodle of the Corgidile and Yogger. Across the Obelisk is a pretty fun game c: #Art #Furry #Corgidile #Yogger #AcrosstheObelisk
positive · AI labelView post →Greedy paradox at it again. Just get Slay the spire. Similar game without $162 of dlc. What an awful publisher. I wish I could refund everything I ever bought from them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Instead of bug-fixing and performance-optimization (and oh boy, there is so much potential for performance optimization...) they add crap like npc-cheating (called adaptive gameplay) which nobody ever asked for... yeah, so even with some hours on the clock I would not recommend this game until the developers get their game together and maybe try something new like "testing and bugfixing *before* releasing". As someone who works in developing myself, I know, this sounds scary and even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game, and most of its dlc, during sales, so I won't be discussing pricing. What I will say though, is you can see my hours, so I got my money's worth out of it, at least, and I'm still playing. Although this is a positive review (because I have fun), this is mostly intended to be informative so you, the reader, can figure out whether any of it is worth it for you. This is a fun, light-hearted little roguelike deckbuilder RPG (I know, a mouthful, lol). The base game has four acts,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got a lot of time out of this game before the development team changed. Truly enjoyed this when it first came out as it created a fun premise my friends and I enjoyed. I didn't just recommend this game, I regularly bought friends copies so I could play it with them. It was unique in its initial execution, allowing you to strategize with your friends, build around each other, and feel powerful with fun cards, buffs, and interactions. Very unique mechanics for a turn-based multiplayer game.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly? Game is pretty good, one of my favourites so you will ask why i give a negative recommendation. It is very simple. De developers of this game, for some reason, break the game every single time they update, always desync problems and bugs that break multiplayer, devs have the courage to even post in the patchnotes that they fixed the bugs when it is not true at all. After another 60h of playing it has gotten even worse, in the current patch playing an online game is desyunc after…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game before Paradox. Now it's just like every paradox property, the DLC is 4x the price of the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a Paradox Interactive DLC collector, nothing will kill your game faster than if Paradox gets ahold of it. Anticipate horrible bugs that go unfixed for years, expensive bite-sized DLC that come out rapidly, disregard for what the fanbase really wants, and mismanagement and greed. I collect them because I feel incomplete without all DLC on a game, and it's almost a mental illness of some kind, but I beg you, I PLEAD with you, don't even pick up one of these games if you want the full content.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Took a break and came back to see that Paradox has paywalled a fantastic game. The game is great, but I won't change the review unless some serious changes are made.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game used to be fun and enjoyable when the dlc's used to actually be good and under $4.99 for new content/characters and $1.99 for skins. Now since Paradox Interactive have gotten their greedy little hands and ruining the game, this game feels like modern aaa trash whose whole premise is putting out a full game and cutting things and calling it 'DLC' . Every new expansion is $9.99-$14.99, which is never worth it and feels so hollow. Content is locked behind dlc's and game is now unplayable for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's funny talking about Hades 2 because the game I have actually been playing with my partner lately is Across the Obelisk, which has the most awful writing, music and art direction of any game I've played in decades but also the mechanics are strong enough we have almost 60 hours in it.
neutral · AI labelView post →Can't get past the pointless, unnecessary launher, waste of money 0/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I came back to check on this game after a long break and was interested in the many DLCs they have come out with. After looking at the price there's no way I would recommend this to anyone. Maybe on some deep discounts on top of the 25% off, the bundles would be worth it but currently the DLCs are WAY overpriced.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Before I start my review, I would like to ask you to ignore the negative reviews that call the DLCs expensive. Across the Obelisk, just like other roguelikes, is supposed to be replayed multiple times. With each run, you unlock new cards to build your deck with, more gold and shards, more heroes and more perks to make those heroes more powerful. The DLCs don't make your game longer, they add more heroes and zones to choose from during your runs, increasing replayability. By all means, buy the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my opinion about this game is, get the basic game its good as it is and will have fun time. They fix lot of issue when game first came out in 2021. When this game studio sold itself to the new publisher Paradox, they keep making DLC that not worth high price, always highly recommend for discount sales for them. Should think about making Across the Obelisk 2 with focus on working on the basic of the game , cards, classes and make them much better.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was really good a year or two ago. But nowadays, playing co-op is almost unplayable because of all the bugs. On top of that, the greed with DLCs is completely out of control. It’s really disappointing to see how much the game has declined.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an amazing game at base. I had a ton of fun with it, and would recommend. I feel the DLC is overpriced, but the base game was well, well worth the money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developers have lost the plot and are shipping updates that retroactively break the game and render the purchased content unplayable. It's hard to believe this is the state of things, or that it's acceptable for a professional software developer to release patches this unstable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So right off the bat, the base game itself is phenomenal, especially with friends. There's a bunch of areas to explore with branching paths, the characters are all fairly varied and fun, usually leaning into one or two specific builds that synergize with their unique traits. There are a ton of cards and items to find, and with it being roguelite, even the same team lineup might end up functioning completely differently when you get to the lategame. Easily a game you could spend 80+ hours on if…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Used to love this game. Now it's almost unplayable because everything requires a DLC.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've owned this game for quite a while. Bought it back in 2021, soon after it was released. Played 60+ hours before tabling it. Recently got the itch to come back and play it again. Almost immediately ran into in-game choices that require a DLC. OK, maybe I'll look at buying the DLC. Loved the game and always happy to support a developer for the good work they...what the hell? 14 DLCs? And even with the bundle discount they cost $80 after tax? Add to this the money I already spent on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game use to be so fun and cool to play.. and then Paradox decided to stick their nose into it. Like, holy hell.. I hadn't played this for a while, like when the first DLC dropped was the last time I played it and I just booted it up with a friend to play it again. One of the first issues we spotted was we could come across options for DLC exclusive routes but couldn't use them because we don't own the DLC.. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD WE WANT TO SEE OPTIONS FOR THE DLC WE DON'T OWN AND CAN'T…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game, have a ton of hours in it, but at this point in time I cannot in good conscience recommend it. What was once an incredible game with promise has lost it's charm due to mismanagement, baffling decisions, and a focus on overmonetizing while underdelivering. It got the Paradox treatment. Rest In Pepperoni
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a lot of Slay the Spire (1 and 2) and saw this game. I read some reviews and decided to try it out. I really like Slay the Spire. I like Across the Obelisk even more. I've got 60 hours and I've only started scratching the surface of the game. It's been an absolute blast. (I just have the original game, none of the DLC).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I CAN NOT recommend this game at all after all of the DLCs they released that are just as much as the game itself! I loved the game when it first came out but after Paradox Interactive acquired the game it has been a landslide of just terrible decisions.
