So that “Warfare” trailer dropped and I want to point out the director was a SEAL who was in Act of Valor and Lone Survivor Any belief that this script or movie will say something important about abuses or corruption within the Teams should be dashed along the rocks. It won’t be

Van Orden's acting debut in Act of Valor really helps you appreciate the craft and line-reading skills of the typical disposable action movie leading men. Your Van Dammes, your Dudikoffs, your Lorenzos Lamas.

So this movie is like Scarface mixed with Air Force One and Act of Valor. #hatm

I'm sorry, but having seen and calling out what true (and deeply harmful) propaganda cinema looks like, ala films like Sound of Freedon or Act of Valor..... I'm just gonna roll my eyes and tune you out indefinitely when you set your sights on a Marvel movie of all things.

ACT OF VALOR I had forgotten about this until your post. I first heard it years ago in the movie Act of Valor (amazing Navy Seals movie). Thank you for reminding me.

Way less fun than DINNER OUT with a film crew along as a Navy SEAL recruiting ad. Like Act of Valor but on a real military operation.

    11) War Machine (2026). Not to be confused with War Machine (2017) also a Netflix original movie directed by an Aussie. A fun, violent sci-fi movie sandwiched by unapologetic Army Rangers propaganda that felt as grimy as Lone Survivor and Act of Valor. Funner it was cowritten by an Aussie.

An interesting point raised on reddit (yeah just bear with me) is how much it all bears the hallmarks of a propaganda film a la Act of Valor. And how one of the big throughlines of 8 is propaganda and disinformation. Still feels weird but we'll see how it goes in-game.

Exactly. Just because it conceivably could be done doesnt make it a good idea.I mean... they do look fucking cool when they crank off at 6000rpm though. The rule of cool makes everything a good idea in movies. Its not the greatest movie but I do love the boat rescue scene from Act of Valor https://youtu.be/O0vZY0m6INU

Anyways got me to thinking we are due for the next great sub movie. Last attempt was what, Crimson Tide? There was a legit cameo in Act of Valor but that doesn’t count.

i understand the skydance buy up of movie studios and news networks will be completely damaging in reputation. but i do hope they have something to prove and make the call of duty movie a masterpiece of a video game adaptation like nothing wver conceived. Don't just do Act of Valor.

Ooh I forgot about fucking Act of Valor. Almost two hours of navy recruitment ad footage edited, in name only, into a movie. I’m endlessly thankful I didn’t pay money to see it

I tapped out of the movie like 60-70% of the way in and just looked up the ending on Wikipedia. It's been literal years since I watched Act of Valor, but I remember it at least being more enjoyable to watch. (I'd probably hate it if I watched it now.)

Seeing Act of Valor with a fresher pair of eyes made this movie funny to watch. One of the NAVY SEALs in the movie, Derrick Van Orden, is a J6 insurrectionist and a homophobic POS. I was watching an IRL villain on screen.

Rewatching Act of Valor. In my past life, I worked with military personnel and I had a bunch of Spec Ops guys. So when this movie came out and I heard the main characters were being played by actual Navy Seals, I was in. Now, if you watch a movie and bad acting will piss you off, don't watch.

Fun fact about Derek here. He was in the movie Act of Valor because he was an Navy seal. Since then he’s gone bat shit crazy just google him see what he’s been up to. The guy is a psycho. He’s not right in the head. Which means of course you’re very typical Maga representative.

Van Orden chews up the scenery in the jingoistic 2012 movie "Act of Valor" as "Senior Chief Otto", interrogator of a Russian terrorist. In an improvised bit of dialogue, he tries to throw in a clever Star Trek reference, but confuses Scotty's Scottish accent and Chekov's Russian one. Such a tool.

A movie that really resonated with me was Act of Valor. The opening, when they said "...the hardest part about getting older is that people forget you are dangerous." As I get older, the more this hits home. People say shit to you, they would never say to a young man. Like you won't snap on them.
