I don't usually write reviews, but I have to for this game given the recent update. Before update 1.58, the route advisor gave you all the information you would need. It showed damage, money, time to destination, arrival time, and message pop-ups. Sure you needed to press a button to change the pages, but that was easy to do even with a controller. Now with update 1.58, they completely ruined the UI. Instead of …

I first discovered American Truck Simulator in January 2017, playing on a simple G29 wheel mounted to a desk. Later that same year, in September 2017, I earned my real-life CDL Class A license. This game played a meaningful role in my journey, teaching me the fundamentals of driving semi trucks and fueling my passion for the industry. Now, eight years later, I’m still playing on a full sim rig while working as a …

I work in the trucking industry, not as a driver, but in the logistics and chaos behind the scenes and despite sometimes hating my job, ATS turns all that stress and those deadlines into the most relaxing experience imaginable. No phone blowing up, no last minute changes, just you and the road. Throw on a podcast or your favorite music and suddenly you have been driving for three or four hours and don't regret it. …

I figured after 600 hours, I should finally give my opinion. This game is the best semi truck driving simulator out there. They have taken time to make the details as realistic as possible for the ratio used. The scenery is gorgeous. It's fun to see what the pedestrians are doing. And the npc drivers will definitely give you road rage! lol You have to watch out for them as if they hit you, YOU still get a ticket! My …

A very nice, relaxing time. I like to have a few drinks and take in the sights and sounds while enjoying the comforting feel behind the wheel. Then I get home and I turn this game on. It's a pleasant way to spend an evening without violating parole again. Highly recommended.

Critics, per Wikipedia
American Truck Simulator has received mostly positive reviews from critics, scoring 76/100 on Metacritic. James Cunningham of Hardcore Gamer gave the game a 4 out of 5 saying, "While a little more realism would make American Truck Simulator more fun, paradoxical as that may sound, there's no escaping how fantastically playable it is." Laura Dale from Polygon rated the game a 8/10 saying, "As someone who sunk countless hours into Euro Truck Simulator 2, a fresh coat of paint, an unfamiliar set of sights and the challenge of driving on the wrong opposite side of the road left me confident that I'll be sinking just as many hours into American Truck Simulator." Andy Kelly of PC Gamer commended…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game however I would encourage SCS to also focus on simple things that would make gameplay more fun; for example decoupling and coupling of trailers manually, refueling, seeing your company trucks on the road, carwash, pedestrians crossing roads in towns; would make the game feel more alive
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I don’t get it, and that's fine. I am still leaving this as Recommended because I can see why people enjoy it even if I do not. American Truck Simulator is a solid game for anyone who genuinely loves driving. The trucks feel heavy, the world looks great, and the whole experience is built around long, quiet stretches of road. That is exactly where it loses me. I do not like long distance driving in real life, so doing it in a game does not magically make it fun. I thought it would be…

neutral · AI labelView post →American Truck Simulator is one of those games that lets you slow down, relax, and simply enjoy the journey. The driving feels satisfying, the trucks are beautifully detailed, and the huge American landscapes make every trip feel different. From long highways to small towns, mountains, deserts, and busy cities, there is always something new to see. What I especially love is the atmosphere. Put on your favorite music, get comfortable, and just drive for a few hours. There is something…

neutral · AI labelView post →ATS is a relaxing game and offers an escape from the work day. In my youth i always wanted to be a long haul trucker, and see this beautiful country. The 3 things i would like to see in the game are: 1. Demographic weather and seasonal changes eg: fall and winter in the Northern states... 2. More AI pedestrian activity, Bicycles, motorcycles, people crossing the street at lights. 3. Actual damage, dents, scratches etc.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty relaxing driving game. I've been playing since 2018 and I feel its only gotten better. It's my favorite game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game so good that my truck driving husband comes home from work after byitching about truck driving just to play ATS.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is easy to recommend ATS and it's cousin ETS2 to anyone who is looking for a calm game to destress with. When comparing ATS and ETS2, I believe ATS has more detailed locations, denser urban areas, and a wider variety of "biomes" to visit. While using a wheel and pedal is best, a controller with a throttle trigger will get you most of the way there. With all the DLC available the cost owning all of ATS quickly adds up, but wait for sales and bundles, and know that the developers are good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Due to my reckless driving I would not have survived more than an hour if this game was real life as I keep tipping my truck over and somehow it flips back upright before tipping over again. My friend wouldn't survive either, I once bumped into her (on purpose) and ended up sending her flying in the sky before falling into a ravine, she got 100% damage everywhere and went in debt cuz she broke and all I got was a scratch. Would Recommend.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll be fair, this is not a graphical powerhouse, the gameplay isn't super deep, and the final boss takes forever to get to. But with that said, if you just want to sit down in a truck and drive across the country listening to your music, and you think you'd get a little thrill about seeing something familiar in digital form and saying "I've been there!", then this game is for you. Let's be honest, if this game is for you, you probably already know it. If it's not for you, you probably…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend the game, but I have some complaints about the new Illinois DLC. As a man that has driven many roads in this abhorrent state I have complaints. I personally hate Illinois, but I live here and don't like the injustice this DLC has done to it. For a starter I have not hit a single pot hole, or construction zone. The state police are also way to timid. In real Illinois they will pull you over for even thinking about making an infraction. All in all I give 10/10 and I give the DLC a…

neutral · AI labelView post →**American Truck Simulator is relaxing, but it is starting to feel old, empty, and way too limited.** I like the idea of this game. Driving across America in a semi truck should feel immersive, heavy, realistic, and alive. But after playing for a while, the game starts to feel more like a pretty road map with trucks than a real trucking simulator. The biggest problem is that the world feels dead. Cities, truck stops, warehouses, rest areas, and gas stations barely feel alive. There are no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I still recommend it, but only if you are a console player. However, as this is a PC review, I can't recommend it anymore as the latest UI changes objectively made this game less intuitive while making usability worse for PC gamers.

Its the ultimate podcast game and i use my wheel and pedals almost exclusively for this nowadays. It has a great mod workshop and i have it pretty juiced up. neutral · AI labelView post →Game is great and amazing but with update 1.58 the developers have royal screwed up the game with new UI that ruins the experience by removing vital information that you used to be able to see while driving to now requiring you to pause to see it additionally if you choose to play online you are locked out of this information since you cant pause. All of this was done to prioritize console players, GOOD JOB SCS Software for refusing to listen to community feedback during the beta when the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look - I have basically paid a quarter an hour (USD) for this game. That is a steal at any possible level. An old school arcade, the cheapest legal entertainment you've ever enjoyed - or any modern entertainment available (I'm in the US, fwiw) ~600 hours, $180 bucks over a decade recorded. Every DLC that's not a paint job or wheels. This game is worth it if you dig the idea of trucking. I grew up with a pops that drove for 50 years before he passed - this game, is my way of connecting with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Due to the developer's trying to make the game more console friendly they have absolutely butchered the UI. The GPS has barely any information on it now. If you've owned ATS for awhile you can simply revert the game back to an older update. If you're about to buy it for the first time be careful, because I don't think you'll have the same option. Hopefully SCS will realize that this UI update would have worked out much better if they kept it to consoles and consoles only.

Best of yet, each state keeps getting upgraded to include more and more things to see. The game also incorporates the random construction…

neutral · AI labelView post →Recommended? Yeah, but... ATS is a very zen gameplay experience that I recommend heartily, with the admission that it is also not a very well made game. Rather, it is very lovingly made and over a span of a decade which, as you can imagine, accumulates issues. If you're a casual player, it's entirely likely that you may never encounter some of the more frustrating aspects of the game. But, if you're someone who buys all the DLC and participates in World of Trucks Events, certain aspects of the…
