Anatomy of a Murder
Directed by Otto Preminger
Semi-retired Michigan lawyer Paul Biegler takes the case of Army Lt. Manion, who murdered a local innkeeper after his wife claimed that he raped her. Over the course of an extensive trial, Biegler parries with District Attorney Lodwick and out-of-town prosecutor Claude Dancer to set his client free, but his case rests on the victim's mysterious business partner, who's hiding a dark secret. Thelma - so far, my fave 2024 film, LOVE June Squibb here. Witness for the Prosecution - inspired courtroom drama, just a smidgen above Anatomy of a Murder. 🎥

Doesn't matter if you know anything about legal ethics, just listen to your gut. Those issues in the movie & book are so nuanced, so deep in the gray areas, they're used in law schools & CLEs.
neutral · AI labelView post →finally saw ANATOMY OF A MURDER for the first time (I know, I know!) and boy, everyone in that movie is acting their ASSES off!! And remember when movie scripts trusted the viewer to handle ambiguity?
positive · AI labelView post →Joseph Welch knew exactly what he was doing and was brilliant in his approach to McCarthy in the hearings, including in his defense of his colleague Fred Fisher. Also, for movie fans, after humiliating McCarthy, Welch later played the judge in "Anatomy of a Murder" (1959). @kevinmkruse.bsky.social

One of the great legal dramas, Otto Preminger thrust us into a rape and murder trail, no shortcuts
positive · AI labelView post →How one can mention Otto Preminger’s ‘Anatomy of a Murder,’ without mentioning the Duke Ellington soundtrack - which was easily the best thing about the movie - is really weird to me.

Still, my favorite nominee was Otto Preminger’s sly Anatomy Of A Murder, the first movie to tackle the word “rape.” I also mourn for non-nominee Some Like It Hot, a classic
