Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 114 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (246 of 287 positive).
Several players note the game is short, with only a few levels, but offers replayability through deathless and speedrun medals. [1][2][3]

In what I assume was an attempt to differentiate itself from Celeste, an inspiration that's obvious to the point of parody, the game features main movement mechanics that were either not fun (whip a flower before you can dash once) or awkward to use, arguably borderline broken (swing from yellow flowers). Quick Score: 5/5 Notes: Kind of low on content for a casual playthrough, only 3 stages though one of them is fairly long. However there are hidden deathless medals and speedrun medals for each stage which offer a fair challenge. Casual playthrough would take most people maybe 2-3 hours. All speedrun and deathless medals took me 11 hours.

If you miss Celeste and you need something to scratch that itch, this is it. It's a bit short though, but the levels and controls are super tight and well done. Kudos to the developers! 3.5/5 - Good!

This game is legitimately Celeste with a whip, and I mean that in a great way. The movement/controls feel great and responsive; every death feels like an execution error and not a "game flaw" or "jank." The rooms themselves are very fun and diverse. Each stage has its own gimmicks, sometimes multiple. The challenge ramps up very steadily over the course of the game without ever spiking unreasonably. There are …

Really good precision platformer. It's on the shorter side, only 4 levels, but getting everything plus no-death runs still takes a while. It's like a more accessible Celeste. With Celeste, I know I'll never 100% it, but with this game, I still haven't managed to get a no-death run in the final level, but I'm getting close and eventually I'll get it, and I appreciate that. It's nice to have a difficult platformer …

79% of the 114 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Archaeogem. The complaint that keeps coming up: cannot rebind controls, which is jarring for some. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · AI labelView post →this game is pretty fun, but im going to stop playing until I can reconfigure the controls to my liking having only 2 options for controls and having them be the opposite of celeste one of my favorite games of all time is a little jarring and hard to get used to, though ill definitly dump many hours into this game once I can set my hands where they want to be

Had a single month to finish the entire final third of the Underground chapter of Archaeogem, plus epilogue, plus many bugfixes. Super proud of the final result, but man was I burned out after 😓 #gamedev #indiedev
positive · AI labelView post →You look at the screenshots and gameplay and you think, "Oh, its like Celeste", except Celeste was a much bigger game with better controls with more "tricks" you could pull off. Here...the jumping is a little too stiff, so there's less leeway for tricks. Also, there's only 3 levels, so its over before you know it with not much development in the mechanics. If it was deeply on sale, maybe consider it, but if you're looking for more Celeste, this isn't it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for a game so inspired by celeste this game fails to understand the core level design that makes it engaging. chiefly, it doesn't keep you waiting around
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I so wanted to love this game. Unfortunately, after a promising start, I can't recommend it. The first hour I enjoyed the game a lot, but with more and more mechanics being introduced, it became more an more annoying and frustrating. An example: First I need to get to the flower to receive a dash (dashing is not a default ability, you need to whip flowers to dash). So I activate the elevator platform to go up on the right side, avoiding spikes, and jump to a platform to whip the flower for 1…

neutral · AI labelView post →Now that the Jungle chapter of #Archaeogem is out on GX.Games, I wanted to share a little before and after from a previous version of a level during development. Playtesters had a lot of trouble with sightreading it, as well as executing some of its moves, so it had to be scrapped. Still, its spirit lives on in the new version :) #GameMaker #gamedev #indiedev
neutral · AI labelView post →I really like the chill music and art style, and I can tell a lot of love was poured into this game, but ultimately I was frustrated by the controls and mechanics: - At times the foreground platforms blend in with the background, making it hard to tell what is and isn't a platform. - Right/left trigger as the grab flower/grapple button was difficult to master as it worked like a button press where you have to press then release the trigger rather than holding it down - this is a lot harder to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Archaeogem poses a philosophical question not exclusive to itself but still uncommon in contemporary video game philosophy. The question is as follows: is a game still cozy if it pisses me off?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The level design is quite uninspired and the grapple physics really doesn't work as expected: it won't give you the right speed and direction. Also, there's a big difference between making a game inspired by Celeste's gameplay and plagiarizing it's artistic direction.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spectacular game! It looks awesome and it feels great to play. The controls are so good they feel like an extension of my brain, it's feels snappy and precise, allthough, i would imensely recomend playing this game with a game controler. Visually the best looking game from this developer yet, and probably one of the best looking pixel art games i've ever played, the environment feels very alive, especially in those parts where there were light rays leaking though the trees in the jungle,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →celeste inspired game that won't replace the original, but is still an okay time. buy on sale if interested.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just okay, not as good as celeste and way shorter. Get it when it's on sale.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to admit I fully do not understand why this game exists. It is fully 'but we have Celeste at home' but with only 50% of the charm, 15% of the visual clarity, and none of the level of polish and perfection that would make me say "yes I should definitely play this over the game it is blatantly mimicking". To a certain extent this is forgivable as someone's first project, but I never understand why 'this is my first game' should for some reason translate into 'pay money to play an inferior…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Archaeogem is a 2d platformer where the puzzle are mostly figuring out what to do. Although it might seems similar to celeste, the whip mechanic make it different enough in my opinion to make it interesting. The art and music work and there are gem to collect in some hidden area. The game also has in game way to reward you for doing deathless and speedrun, but won't affect casual player since its only a small graphical change but it still fun to see as a hardcore platformer fan. And the game…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Appleseed's Indie Game Of The Day! Day 316) Archaeogem by Gagonfe, HugoBDesigner A precision platformer where you play as an archaeologist gathering gems and exploring luscious areas with beautiful flowers. The platforming is fun, precise, and speedy as heck; which always makes for a good time.
neutral · AI labelView post →The story in this game is almost nonexistent, but everything else is great. Archaeogem is a platformer where precision is vital. If you love Celeste, you can’t miss this. It's really close to that gameplay #indiegame #indiedev
positive · AI labelView post →Fun short celeste inspired game that is easy to 100%. Often wonky mechanics and occasionally annoying levels don't warrant the price point though for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't Celeste, if you go in with that expectation you might be a bit disappointed. The character controls well, and the over all vibe is very chill and cute. I'm not a fan of using the triggers (I prefer clicky buttons). The different flower mechanics are fun, it's a good platformer.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a fun Celeste-like, with mechanics that are different enough to feel fun and new, but familiar enough to still call it a Celeste-like. My play time is way off, 'cause I leave things running, I'd say it was about 8 hours of playtime for me? For reference: I played Celeste a lot. up through the C sides and the moon, never got the golden strawberries. I suspect many people will get more playtime than I did. Some of the physics were a bit distracting at the beginning, but worth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Archaeogem is a good, and quick precision platformer that has clear inspiration from a game like Celeste. Archaeogem is not a long game as it only has a few chapters, but each chapter introduces a fun mechanic to enhance the movement slightly. Albeit, a very small change (like a dash) The controls are simple, but you don't have the ability to rebind so you need to adapt to it, which isn't hard. I would recommend a controller. The game is VERY easy to 100% if you're a completionist/achievement…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short but very sweet! The world is beautiful and the controls just feel so right! If you love celeste you will love this game <3 Its cheap and more then worth it 9.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOPE! Completely Unclear Instructions on how to manipulate the whip. So far I've discovered that: * It only activates at particular points when a junction is lit up, * Time slows down, and the guy loses almost all control of life, * Letting go of "C" does something, but I haven't figured out how that works, * I won't be coming back to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls are clunky, and you are forced to use fixed inputs instead of choosing your own keys as inputs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little platformer taking 4.5 hours to fully complete. It's very similar to Celeste both in visuals and gameplay. I got stuck in the wall a few times using the rope swing, but had no other problems. FYI there are no accessibility options like there are in Celeste, so unfortunately you can't make the game any easier if you're struggling.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Certainly no Celeste as hard as it tries, but its a competent platformer. It is difficult but fair, although there will be some parts you have no idea what to do. The whip is fun but can be a bit finnicky, they should let you target the flowers from further away. Also the slowdown on the whip sometimes is really strong and other times doesn't seem to work like it should. Theres 4 total worlds so the game is shorter but it doesn't overstay its welcome. Not really any story but in a platformer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is like too harsh to like call it a celeste ripoff, it is a nicely made game. though if only you made chapter 2 and maybe 3 (jungle is my current progress) shorter. chapter 2 alone took me like 3 hours. though yes i was getting all 15 emeralds but still. man and also why is the game running at like half speed, i get i have intergrated graphics but any other 2d games runs well but not this. weird
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to play Celeste, but are afraid of its brutal difficulty and length, Archaeogem is exactly the piece you should have in your collection. It's a cheap and visually very nice snack that will teach you the basics of precise jumping. It's a great training: For "baby Celeste" players. it's the ideal becouse the game doesn't force you into crazy marathons in the style of 7h one level, but it teaches you precision. The pixel-art biomes feel alive. Unlike many platformers, it tries to find…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frustrating but fun. Short, so I wouldn't want to pay a lot for it, but worthwhile in a bundle or on a good sale, I enjoyed it for 3 hours worth. Did not enjoy it so much that I want to put myself through more of it to get the other achievements. (Especially since I already got stuck on the path to the bouquet, couldn't figure out a way to still have a "zoom" *and* reach the second place where I needed it, and there was also no way back from there to the main path, so I had to restart the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For transparency, I consider HugoBDesigner (one of the game devs) a online friend, I bought two copies (for me and a friend) with my own money. A bit about myself : I don't play many platformers, I haven't played Celeste, Supermeatboy I couldn't name any other popular platformers. Best I played is Mario and maybe a few games on Miniclip in my youth. I'm mildly patient, I quickly get discouraged at being stuck and respawning / repeating stuff. Thankfully Id consider myself good at video…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's enjoyable, I want to recommend this. But with my 4080 graph card , why only 40 fps ? even lower when full screen , u know it's just a pixel graphics game. Pls fix this, i will change review to positive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An insanely fun and well made puzzle platformer that takes the best aspects of celeste and works them into its own incredibly unique twist, if you enjoyed that game, you'll love this one, it might be shorter but has just as much heart
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short fun platformer game. Graphics/art style seems to be inspired by Celeste. Difficulty wise, I would compare it with the earlier levels of Celeste.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Archaeogem is a visually appealing and fairly difficult precision platformer. If you look at it and think it looks a lot like Celeste, you wouldn't be incorrect. And that's not a bad thing; Celeste is one of my favorite games ever. If you want more Celeste-like difficulty, I'd easily recommend giving Archaeogem a try. Archaeogem does lack in a few areas though. Four issues stand out for me, just from my time beating the first two levels: The art often struggles with readability. In some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is so well-thought, fun and cute! I love the mechanics of the whip, it's such a good idea
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Archaeogem is an excellent addition to the precision platformer genre! Trying to live up to Celeste's very lofty standards was always going to be a very tough task, but Archaeogem nails the smooth and precise jumping and traversal mechanics that any game in this genre needs and pairs it with beautiful pixel art and a wonderful soundtrack! If you loved Celeste then I implore you to pick up Archaeogem! I cannot wait to see what future games Gagonfe makes, and I know that I will be playing them!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately this game had several issues for me after getting to the third main level (which is apparently near the end). The biggest issue is that the game has a screen shake percentage in the options but some abilities still have screen shake even after you set this value to 0 which is a deal breaker if you're prone to motion sickness. The graphical style is very similar to Celeste but there is not enough differentiation between the backgrounds and what you can or cannot interact with,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game only has 3 main levels, but levels 2 and 3 are a good length if you go for all of the optional emeralds. i think i got this for like $2.50? as a fan of celeste and puzzle platformers, it was totally worth it at that price. my playtime is after getting 100% of the collectibles and replaying one of the levels. overall, the 1st level is ok, a little basic. the 2nd is cool and creative, but i did get frustrated at times. and the 3rd level is really great and a step above the others, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is okay Basic platforming is fine Momentum jump and swing is awkward Too few stages and lacks replay value So ultimately can't recommend for full price $3~$4 maybe
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little precision puzzle platformer. Controls are a bit quirky at times, but it's just nice really, that it's not too similar to Celeste. Spent 3.5 hours 100-percenting the first 3/4 levels and completing the rest in a main+ manner. I wish there was even more funny story and dialogue. Great game 👍️
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little puzzle plattformer in the spirit of Celeste. I'm not a huge fan of the plattforming mechanics. It's a fairly short playthrough. The art direction is nice, the music is chill.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little game based on and expanded on the mechanics of the well known Celeste. If you really loved celeste you will definetely have fun with this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, short, easy to learn speedrun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had to quit because I kept feeling like I was doing the right thing but dying anyways. The rope physics are wonky, touch something and you fall to your death, same goes for the momentum. Sometime I felt like I should've gotten a boost from a moving platform and a didn't (and vice versa). Also, I frequently got stuck in the walls at one part, or died because I was "on a wall" somehow and not on the platform below it, so I slid down and died. Also, having the action button on the trigger and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I typically shy away from plat former games as I have a history of panicking WAY TOO MUCH. However the art style and the music made it feel very relaxed. I laughed at my fails and my brain was having fun trying to figure out, just the right sequence!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started an indie platformer called Archaeogem, early impressions are great. Apart from that today I played Post Void, Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World.
positive · AI labelView post →This is an amazing platformer game! Loved the way it starts, slowly introducing the mechanics of the game, then increasing the difficulty for you to master how to play this game. The controls are satisfying, the game feels really good in every jump in every whip, everything in this game is a masterpiece on how to be rewarded when you play it. You also have some optional collectibles to get throughout the stages, for those who want a real challenge and get them all! Overall this is the best…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure how to review this. The Art is great, Movement is smooth, i like the mechanics with the flowers and it is obviously inspired by celeste. Now there is another Celeste like Game that cost me about 12.34€ and on that i have 4 hours. So this game is definitly better with the price, i paid 6,29€ bc of sale on release. Now in this i've 3.2 hours and 100% completion. If you wonder why, it has only 3 levels, 5 to count right but 2 are intro outro and are done in no time, not really levels.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the start, you can tell this game is made with love for the genre! Short and sweet, but also very challenging. VERY Every course has a unique flavor and mechanics and movements to test and there isn't a single "level" that's wasted. (part of me think that longer version of this would use more of the same concept in different levels to test the satisfaction of mastering a type of movement but i digress.) Great game that's well worth is price!
