What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 60 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Negative (43 of 112 positive).
Many reviewers say this Steam version is a poor mobile port that removes puzzles and cutscenes. [1][2][3] Some players who loved the original game are disappointed by the lack of challenge. [4][5][6] A few reviewers still appreciate the game's music, scenery, and story. [7][8][9]

After 15 years still one of the most beautiful games in scenery and music I have ever played. Too bad it is missing it's puzzles, but without them I still needed 7 hours to finish it. Hopefully the other games in the series will also be released on Steam, especially The Lost Tales, which makes the story easier to understand if your new to the series.

I am really dissapointed to strongly advice AGAINST buying this This is on my top 5 favorite games of all time/platforms/genres It trully is a masterpiece as a whole and in my opinion a true work of art but... This is NOT the original but a port from touch devices with no cutscenes, funky control and many more flaws Those of you unlucky enough like myself, to purchase and play dracula trilogy from steam having …

I still own the original CD version. I bought this expecting not to use the CDs anymore. BUT surprise surprise this version is awful, they removed all of the puzzles makin this game zero challenging. I am very disapointed of the devs or publishers of this version. If you can, try to get the original CD version It's waaaaaaaaaaay better

Wow, i thought i can show my GF something that sets up my nostalgia and found this on steam. 10 minutes into the game and i stoped the game because i couldn't bear it any longer to play this crippeled version of Atlantis 2. Any hopes to see my youth again were shattered. There was litterally no challenge in this game. The cristal puzzle was scrapped, most animations just got deleted, no face-to-face conversations …

THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL GAME! If you've played the original Atlantis 2, you probably won't enjoy this version. Most of the puzzles were removed, so you basically just run around, pick up items and bring them to the right place. No thinking needed, it's just busy work. The music, scenery and story are still nice, but without the puzzles it's just not as immersive. And if you've never played the original version, try …

25% of the 60 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis. The complaint that keeps coming up: puzzles are removed or auto-solved. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
According to the French newspaper Les Échos, Atlantis II was a commercial hit, with sales of 180,000 units by late December 1999. This number rose to 200,000 units by April 2000. The game went on to become a best-seller in the United States. Atlantis II made up 15% of DreamCatcher Interactive's North American sales in 2000; Cryo Interactive reported more than 100,000 units sold in the region from June through the end of the year. Market research firm PC Data tallied 64,625 sales of the game in North America for 2000, of which 23,327 derived from December. This performance made Atlantis II one of DreamCatcher's top sellers that year—alongside Traitors Gate and The Crystal Key—and resulted in…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Apparently this is a very bad mobile port. Graphics are AWFUL. All puzzles and challenges removed. If I had known this, I wouldn't have even taken this game for free, let alone the 10 dollars I wasted.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Garbage. LIke all ports of old Cryo games from Microids this port is a piece of ♥♥♥♥. No puzzles, no animations. no graphical improvements, only one music in each stage. Missing dialogues. too many content cut. Buy all Atlantis and Dracula games in GOG. (They sell the original games)

neutral · AI labelView post →TLDR; This port is just a sliver of the original, get it on GOG instead if you want the full experience.* After trying to find this game for years, I finally found it, and I was super excited! I played this as a very young child, and I have very fond memories of it. I honestly just wanted that quick rush of nostalgia, so when I saw it was on sale for $0.79 here compared to the full $3.99 on GOG, it seemed like a no-brainer to get it here instead. And, well, I kinda wish I had just dished out…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i played that game when i was little, and i loved it. when it came on steam it made me so happy to see it again. the game is old but have a very good story and the most beautyful music. its very original and have a very long game play. 13/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This ought to be categorized as a DEMO of Atlantis 2, because you're only getting a partial game. I too have the original CD version and have loved the game for years (but no longer have a disc drive). This version is missing cut scenes, removes dialogue animations, and auto solves all the puzzles. For those who have played the original, this seems like a sham.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This version of the original game has dumbed down several of the puzzles that I loved as a child (rainbow bridge in Xibalba is completely missing, spider puzzle in Xibalba requires a single move, the turtle's path to the dragon door puzzle in China has been reduced to four, simple steps, etc.). Furthermore, most interactions possible within the different environmental cells are immediately centered and highlighted once the cell has been entered, the process of "adding journeys" to the game's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought the game for the nostalgia. This is not the game I remember. The puzzles are already complete which really detracts from the game that got me fascinated with solving puzzles. I wouldn't have downloaded this version even if someone had paid me if I had known.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first game "Atlantis - Lost Tales" was way better. Unfortunately that one is not available on steam so far. I hope that this will change.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do NOT buy this! Just read about the missing puzzles. This game has been one of my favourites, bought it again today on steam (because I have the original on multiple CDs) and everything is different from what I loved about it. Missing scenes, completely different menu/icon/ dialogue design, different music, terrible camera controls, hints everywhere, it is so terrible
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A "classic" point 'n click adventure game. Sadly, in the Steam version , the puzzles are too often solved for you, making the game just a travelogue through the decent graphics, storyline and music for the time (2000). Get the original CDs if you want the correct game. I have those and still enjoy the gameplay every once in a while.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This version of the game isn't the same. Content is missing. A lot of the puzzles have been ruined by marker icons that tell you exactly where to place objects instead of having to figure it out on your own. It was still kind of nice to see the worlds and hear the musical score again, but I was disappointed in this version overall. I could have just found a walkthrough video of the original and been more satisfied.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was able to play this game years ago when I was a boy. Although I never figured out the puzzles then, I was able to now. There are some things that were changed in the version I bought than the one that was on the disk. There were less sequences and some of the puzzles solved itself. The icons on which you clicked to engage the item was a target and it was like playing google street view. But In summary it was a very satisfying game and closed one more chapter in my childhood. I would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got to play 3v3 Guards of Atlantis 2 yesterday. What a blast! I think I have now played 4 times over the span of a couple years, and I want to keep exploring it. Hard to think of a 6 player strategy game or team game that I like more.
positive · AI labelView post →I strongly recomend not buying this game. If you have fond memories of the original game please do not ruin your memories with this cheap excuse of a ported game. Almost all of the puzzles have been removed. There are nog cutscenes when talking with characters and the UI has been butchered. Personaly I am not one to talk bad of any company that at least tried to deliver a nice experiance. But in this occasion have nothing good to share. The original atlantis gave me a ton of nice memories…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP! It is awful that steam even allows this to be on its platform listed as "Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis". This game is not "Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis" as you would expect it it to be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis_II. It has a ton of puzzles removed and has weird bugs. It might have cost me less than 5 euros, but I'd rather had burned a 5 euro note than given it to this. Ofc I had the game open for too long before I requested a refund so my money is now to the…

Such a fantastic game, my team lost but everyone had a blast and it was competitive through out. We usually play with 4 but had the opportunity to play with 6. I recommend you play it if you ever get the chance.
positive · AI labelView post →As a kid I played the first game of this Atlantis-series, so I was curious to see if part 2 could live up to my expectations. It didn't... The game has a nice storyline and the animation in between is interesting too. The video-quality is pretty good for a game that old. Besides that, the game lacks difficulty. There are basically no puzzles (or they solve themselves) which takes away the most interesting part for me. I've read in other reviews that the game has been altered a lot compared to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THis game has bugs and crashes, and many of the puzzles in the original version are missing. Half the fun is gone!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We've been having fun with Guards of Atlantis 2 at lunch at work this week We played the short game first, and today we started our second game Such fun variety of characters with a nice pace to gameplay with the simultaneous card play
positive · AI labelView post →I had the original version of this game when I was young and this is not it. It has all the same visuals but some animations are missing and more importantly the puzzles just auto complete! What is the point of playing a point and click adventure/puzzle game where it does it for you? Waste of money if you want to actually play a game. Great if you just want to look at it and have it carry itself through the story for you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This G A R B A G E is NOT the game I played back in 199x! Search is simplified! Dialogs are no longer animated! And worst of all puzzles REMOVED! This is NOT Atlantis 2.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a great game when it first came out. All of the major puzzles in the original that made this game fun as well as some of the cutscenes have been removed and only the bare bones of the game remain with these puzzles auto completed. Though the story overall remains I wouldn't recommend.

neutral · AI labelView post →Guards of Atlantis 2! Love this game, first time playing since I got the hero minis painted. Gotta do the minions next.
positive · AI labelView post →Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis is an ancient game from 1999. It's a whopping 24 years old at the time of this review. The game runs in DOSBOX and lacks proper widescreen aspect ratio support (it's locked at 4:3) or support for any modern gaming display resolutions, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. It…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game crashes and it is annoying moving from one scene to another.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WARNING! This is a stripped version of the original game! All the puzzles are auto-resolve... completely ruins the point of the game. I can remember playing through this game with my aunt and mom, spending hours just to figure out one puzzle, all that is gone. Really upsetting. :/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad port of a bad remake, holds none of the charm of the original and is missing several puzzles
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first time playing this game, and it felt like this was a great game, but something was missing. Then I started to read the other reviews and realised that this game is a bad port from a mobile game which in turn was a port from a PC game. That is a recipe for disaster. Why couldn't they just remake it specifically then for PC users instead of cutting corners. I even did the effort of trying to find the original PC version, and can see the complaints the fans have with this. Morale…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So here we go, after playing 2 hours of the steam version. It's a pretty classic adventure game. We have to keep in mind that this is old. The graphics are not the best but still enjoyable. There is a good atmosphere and good puzzles. Advice: worth the discount
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing this game when it was only a computer PC game with a 4 disc step up. My grandfather has given me this & Chapter 2 of this game & after playing them, I love it. The story was very supernatural like, full of puzzles, challenges, maybe old-school graphics, but it was fun & enjoyable. I suggest to please give this game a try before you deny it. & if you have played this game, I also suggest to try & find the 2nd game of "Beyond Atlantis" & play it whenever you can. I can promise…

Highlights were Calimala, the most insanely close game of Guards of Atlantis 2 to date, and extremely pleasant intro to Bretwalda, and our first infinite loop in Magical Athlete!
positive · AI labelView post →This drives me up the wall. The other day I found a game called Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis, and I wanted to see what the first game was like. I couldn’t find the game through search, because so many games have Atlantis in the title, but clicking on the dev tab took me to the Microids page

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played teh game when i was 10years old. It was hard and complicated. I bought it after 15 years and found out, they removed half of the puzzles. Still loved the feeling of completing game after so many years.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would only recommend this game if you are simply playing it to relive memories from the original game. This is some kind of import, some puzzles are missing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get the GOG version. This is a trash mobile port with half of the game missing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expect an adventure game of this vintage to be weird and confusing, which is why I was willing to bang my head against it for a couple hours before going online and seeing what others had to say. While there's some truth to my initial assumption, it appears the Steam version of Atlantis II is uniquely bungled and not worth another second of my time or yours. Which is a pity. Sorta. This game is the kind of quirky relic that speaks to me. It's also heavy on cumbersome mazes and depictions of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start by clarifying that the sole reason I recommend this game is its very low price. Besides that, it is a bad game with numerous flaws and weak points and only a handful or redeeming qualities. I will also mention that, as you can see in many other reviews, this game is only a botched port of the original. I did check online playthroughs and, indeed, a significant chunk of content (puzzles, cutscenes, etc) is missing. I will focus only on the present version of the game. My main…

Near the very end, there is a bug that causes you to not have the crystal/stone you need to insert into the center of the dial on the ship in your inventory, preventing you from advancing to the final chapter in space. There is a bug at the very end that causes you to no longer have the crystal that you need to insert intomiddle of dial on the ship and you cannot finnish it. In the…

So bummed that basically ALL the puzzles are removed. It really is just a point and click game you can rush through but with serious lack of direction since so much of the content is missing, Serious shout out to all the folks that created walk-thrus so I could at least saw I finished the game. The ending was absolutely wild…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was a great game, but they cut a lot of content in this version, including all the puzzles. So now it's just a primitive point-and-click game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY. If you've played Atlantis II or Beyond Atlantis, this isn't it. There are no puzzles, no dialogue cutscenes, and the major parts of the game are just gone. I'm so disappointed. This was one of my favorite games when I was a kid.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis is a Point & Click Fantasy Adventure game using the Omni3D graphics engine which had a few really good Adventure games back in the late 90's. I have really fond childhood memories of this title. However, this Steam version is not the original and it's a disgrace that they have defaced such a great title by stripping it from its original content. If you want the original game, get it from GOG.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had played the original Beyond Atlantis II way back when, and I was excited to see a reboot. However, this adaptation is missing all of the puzzles that made this game so challenging and fun to play. In the places where the puzzles should be, it's a simple point-and-click which triggers the cut-scene that would have followed the completion of the puzzle. Without the puzzles, it is simply a rather vague story line, just barely interesting enough to keep the player's focus, but so easy that one…
