Such a disappointment. The game starts off very very well, controls are good, weapons are fun to use, and an interesting upgrade system. (SPOILERS BELOW) However, once you escape the 1st area and get into the "open world" areas, the game takes a dive. Why? Infinitely (and quickly) respawning enemies. I wanted to like Atomic Heart a lot more than I did. On paper "Soviet Bioshock" sounds exactly like the kind of thing I'd be all over, but after around 7 hours of bouncing off and back onto the game when I finally reach the point where the world begins to open up, I was already bored to death. Atomic Heart so desperately wants to be Bioshock, but doesn't seem to understand why Bioshock worked. Rapture had scale, …

I have mixed feelings about this game. The biggest problem with the base game is definitely the combat. It throws tons of tanky, high-health enemies at you, but barely gives you any ammo. You’ve got all these guns in your inventory just sitting empty, you're forced to use melee weapons most of the time. (There's obviously a way around, if you know you know) Swarming robots + endless melee swinging quickly turned …

Players who liked Atomic Heart talk about beautiful graphics and art direction; those who didn't talk about repetitive combat with bullet-sponge enemies. Which matters more to you?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Atomic Heart received "mixed or average" reviews from critics for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, while the PC version received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. IGN praised Atomic Heart for being "deeply ambitious, highly imaginative, and consistently impressive", though criticized its writing and "tedious" elements of gameplay, such as fetch quests. PC Gamer called it "one of the oddest" AAA games. They felt it took primary influence from BioShock, but criticized its combat and progression system as inferior, while being conflicted towards the story and characters. Similarly, Polygon felt that Atomic Heart failed to eclipse BioShock…

I think the biggest question coming out of SGF is how is a game called Atomic Heart II a spiritual sequel to Atomic Heart. That is not how spiritual sequels work.

Atomic heart is a game with some great strengths and is at times quite a lot of fun... but it's also a game that feels frustratingly half-a$$ed and unfinished. Pros: The art and design of the world is great for the most part. The worldbuilding is well executed and most parts of the universe the game exists in feel very well thought out. Most of the gameplay is quite fun, although less so when you run into the less complete parts of the game. A lot of the voice actors do a really good…

I finished the game with very mixed feelings. Atomic Heart is full of contradictions, which makes it hard to judge it in a clear, straightforward way. On the one hand, the design of the dungeons is genuinely strong. From the starting area to the testing grounds with their puzzles and the later story locations, the level design is interesting and engaging. I enjoyed going through them: there is a good variety of puzzles, enemies, and combat situations. On the other hand, all of these story…

The setting and art design are very nice but the gameplay largely feels like a chore and the story isn't super engaging. Combat isn't very fun and I found myself wishing I could bypass encounters, which is never a good sign. The game spends the first 6 hours teaching you to clear out enemies and destroy enemy spawn points so you can take your time to solve puzzles and scour every nook and cranny for resources. But then in the next portion it throws you out in the open with constantly…

What an immersive experience this game was and what great storytelling it delivered. We dont seem to get a lot of these big storytelling games anymore, at least not where it is an important part of the experience. Atomic Heart is one of those games though. This game takes place in the 1950s, but in a world where the USSR has, as the only nation, managed to develop futuristic technology. They built a lot of robots, which they are the sole supplier of to the rest of the world, since only they…

It's ok. Fits right in with Bioshock or Halflife in presentation. Lots of little flaws, odd glitches that don't usually show up in a well polished game. The world is interesting, but the characters and general plot is wholly uninteresting. The main character (you) are not all that likeable and Char-les is almost without a personality, almost. The game has really weird audio, especially scripted scenes, they're missing really obvious audio. Like there is a scene in a elevator that gives out…

kinda mid. Edit: DLCs 2-4 are actually pretty decent. It's just a shame the main game is so meh. I think it tries to do too much. It's like they took ideas from every big fps and threw them into one game. Nothing really feels focused or fleshed out. The story is somewhat predictable until a fake decision at the end. There's basically no good ending, but one sets it up for a sequel that could lead to a good end. The game gives you all these options but only one thing really works well:…

The biggest downside of this game is that enemies can repair themselves infinitely after a few seconds, which means it's too hostile and annoying to stay on the surface and explore, other than just going for the testing grounds. This is such a disappointment considering that this game has a really stunning open world - one that you can't enjoy due to the constant threat of being attacked. The base game is short; doing all the main missions and testing grounds takes around 20 hours, and you'll…

Played through the main content and all DLC in roughly under 40 hours. This is a fantastic game. It's like Bioshock, Doom and fallout had a baby. You got the gameplay and skilltree for abillities like bioshock , extremely fluid and satisfying combat like doom and the humor and jokes of fallout. You got plenty of weapons to chose from and find. The game is very stylish; superficially it looks very polished. Everything else is OK at best! The weapons don't feel good to shoot at all. The upgrades aren't satisfying. The puzzles aren't particularly interesting. The voice acting and writing are off and a bit confusing. Everything in the game lacks punch, flavor; the visuals and the music are the only really nice parts, and they sort of paper over how lackluster the rest is. Oh well!

Pretty good game overall with awesome story, visuals and soundtrack. Obviously, it's not without flaws. The movement here is kinda cancer, especially climbing, I got stuck a couple of times this way and had to restart the last checkpoint. The base game has a lot of issues, from gameplay, to story, to not really having a clear vision of what it wants to be. With the final DLC, I can say that the devs have made steps in the right direction. My biggest issue with the base game is that there was a clear mismanagment of resources, and the team overextended, trying to create a weird semi-open-world, leading to a…

What looks like Bioshock set in Russia is exactly what this is, a shell of that game disguised to look like one. That`s about the only redeeming quality of the game. Setting is cool and story is somewhat interesting, but gameplay is just awful, combat even more so, the worst part of the game. Every enemy has attacks that knock you down, some don`t even have any different types of attacks so every time you get hit you get tossed around the area until either you or the enemy dies. Combat is peak, gameplay is good, story is alright, open world is abysmal. I truly can not fathom how they messed up the open world. It is a slog to go through, unenjoyable, empty, and there is no way to ping/mark/keep track of any of the POI you have been too. You completed a testing ground? Nice it wont reflect that while looking at the map. If they kept the game open area (AKA Bioshock) It would have been perfect.

Genre - Janky Easter European FPS Adventure with optional open world elements I think this is 8/10 game It plays similar to Bioshock being an FPS with areas to upgrade and unlock new weapons. Atomic Heart is one of those games where the focus isn’t on breaking down every small flaw, but on understanding the overall experience it delivers. And in that sense, it does its job very well. From the start, what stands out is the world itself. There’s a strong identity here, especially in how it blends retro-futuristic technology with a Soviet-inspired setting. For players familiar with games like Fallout universe, there’s an immediate sense of familiarity in the concept: a highly advanced…

Now the rest of the game kinda lets the world down. The story was cool but I wasn't really bothered about it too much as there were other things bothering me. The soundtrack of the game is odd. At one point there will be some calm Russian music playing then at the next minute it'll be heavy rock or some other bs. Don't get me…

Everything about the game except for the visuals and art style is....janky. Thats the word. Janky. Where am I? What am I doing? Where am I going? Why? Follow the waypoints which are provided arbitrarily by your omniscient....glove. Society just crumbled but suddenly we know who did it and hes imprisoned righty next to you. But not in a prison. In a...lab? Because he works there? Tons of cool enemies. No way to fight them effectively. Collecting crafting supplied - collection is automated but…

I came for the sexy twins and stayed for the psycho and horny female machine that want to murder you and/or upgrade your gears, loved every bit of talk i had with her. The game is meh by the way, there is a lot of room for improvement and i hope the sequel will be a better game with even more trash talk and gooning materials.

Don't base your decision to play on reviews. Go watch game play videos. This is a soft recommend and would be a neutral rating if Steam allowed it. The art direction, voice acting, and soundtrack are very good. The setting of a utopia-like soviet union is unique, and I spent quite a bit of time in the beginning taking it all in. There are good things here, but there are some big detractors as well. Gameplay wise, it is mostly enjoyable, but there are areas in the last half of the game…

Holy crow, I can't believe I missed this. I did a sizable chunk of English VO director and narrative editing for the final Atomic Heart DLC, "Blood on Crystal." Mundfish was fantastic to work with, and their VO talent was top notch. store.steampowered.com/app/2214824/...

No words needed: this game is MEGAFINE! Except for the product placement, the second DLC, and bugs, of course. If you've played it, you know it. If not, you absolutely should!

The world building, art, and lore is amazing, but has some glaring game design flaws. The biggest being the fact the game actively deters you from engaging in combat, especially in the large overworld which baffles me. Its a waste of time and resources to fight and you're better off just running around the entire overworld ignoring looting and combat and just running to the waypoint instead. On top of that the weapons feel very weak and underwhelming even on the easier difficulties. It got…

A truly brilliant game with good graphics, I would recommend it. And awesome fridge NORA. Buy this game if you have always wanted dirty talk with a refrigerator.
