Not recommended. A poor adventure game in almost every way. Given the game's age, it looks decent but that's about it. I'll group the problems I had into three sections: #1 Story and Lore To be short, there isn't any. Just the intro cutscene. There isn't nearly enough exposition, spoken or implied, to spur you to action, give any sense of urgency, or explain who's doing what and why. #2 World The world(s) try to be …

A thoroughly enjoyable first-person adventure. The puzzles are well-designed and ramp nicely in difficulty. Despite what some people say, all the puzzles are logical and are rather well-clued, assuming you look for the clues. I have yet to encounter one where I didn't understand exactly how it worked by the time I solved it. No walkthrough either. I suppose if you miss a clue, you could get confused. But even when I …

This is one of those cases where the mixed reviews are wrong and give a false impression. I play every Myst style game I can find and this turned out to be one of the best. The worlds and environments are beautiful, which is one of the things I like to see in a Myst style game. The puzzles in Aura are very good. What I liked in particular is that you always get a beautiful animation the moment you solve a puzzle. …

This is a very good Myst clone combining sci-fi & fantasy environments. If fact, I was very surprised to see this was not made by the developers of Myst because the similarities are so striking. The story is weak and the storytelling is worse, but the puzzle adventure aspects are superbly done and make up for those shortcomings.

52% of the 127 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Aura: Fate of the Ages. The complaint that keeps coming up: weak story and poor voice acting. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

The game received "mixed" reviews according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. IGN said, "What little Aura does to advance the genre it does remarkably well. In an age when encountering logical puzzles is as rare as pooping out gold nuggets, Aura shines as a game that attempts to bring a little reason into the mix." However, GameSpy said, "The few good puzzles contained within aren't worth the time and risk that you might not even be able to complete it."

It's hard not to compare this to entries in the Myst series, specifically Myst III: Exile and Myst IV: Revelation. This is mostly due to the fact that numerous elements were borrowed from each of those games and made just different enough not to seem as though Streko Graphics had done little more than create a Myst clone. While this is a perfectly serviceable adventure game, it's not without flaws (some major, some minor depending on how particular the player is). (A technical aside - some…

First off, don't expect Myst quality. This is a very ambitious adventure game that feels like it had some budget/team/time issues near the end of production. Very good first 2 thirds of the game, with a very bad last 3rd and an ending that while concluding things leaves a lot unexplained to make room for a non-existant (?) sequel. The first two "ages", or level areas, are actually quite good in the puzzle design. Clues are often just enough for you to piece it together yourself without…

That said, unless you subscribe to this specific theory, the plot doesn't have a whole lot of weight or emotional depth, at least from where I'm viewing it. I bought it because I wanted six or seven hours of mashing every single object I picked up into every single interactable location I came across, and it did indeed give me that, plus some rather ingenious brainteasers (triangle/circle…

First off, let me point out that this is a game of older date. It shows. The graphics and cutscenes are pretty but not 2016 pretty so if this is off-putting to you, this is not a game for you. Secondly, the voice acting is terrible, nothing less. But since there is very little of it (this is a 'solve puzzles, talk less' sort of game), it isn't that much of a bother. It's an awkward, near-unplayable Myst ripoff. It's got beautiful prerendered scenery, yes, but that's about as close as it comes to the former. The puzzles don't come together logically with the gameplay and story (I spent half of my time with this game alt-tabbed out to check with the walkthrough). The music is insipid and repetitive (the sound design on this was as a whole amateurish). The voice-acting is bad to the point of near-hilarity. The story is uncompelling and the dialogue…

An unashamed Myst clone (first person puzzles with a node-based movement system) with all the weird and mysterious environments and crazy puzzles. Sadly, it's old so no widescreen. The core gameplay and puzzles rank among the hardest I've encountered in the genre but they are not impossible and are (for the most part) well designed.

I got the game because the screenshots reminded me of Myst 3 & 4 and I was hoping it was similar. It doesn't bother me that they cloned Myst's visual asthetic. They seem to have put a decent amount of effort into that. What bothers me is that that's ALL they seem to have put effort into. the NPC's speech has at best forced emotions and awkward dialogue, the plot is a forgetable mess, nobody has facial expressions, and more than a few of the puzzles are counter intuitive 'guide dang it' moments,…

This game is... somewhat cringe. There's no cohesive storyline, a bunch of names thrown all over the place, which made me lose interest quite quickly. The puzzles are generally simple, but the way the machines work is odd and nonsensical: it almost seems like the developers had fun designing complex machines just for the sake of it, possibly (probably) trying to emulate the feeling of the Myst games, which this game looks extremely like a clone of. Tedious, non-sensical, boring, repetitive, unintuitive - that's how I'd describe this game. They show you some kinda intro which explains nothing, stuff like who you are or where or why - not needed. Sometimes, I feel the need for a FP adventure game fix, and I look at my library and there it "always" stood near the top, Aura: Fate of the Ages. No clue when I got it anymore, but it's there. And I'd sigh and go again, start over for the 3rd, 4th time. And it would hook me. Now, the story is vague and simplistic, not to use harsher words, depicting an abstract techno-magical pocket-plane heavy world that these 90s/00s Mystoids oh so dearly loved. This game came out in 2004, so I am a little disapointed by all the negative reviews because, for its time and genre, Aura is a great game. It is definately is a Myst- like game in that you do have to use your mind to think outside the box... the environments are beautiful... and you have no clue what to do at first.
