Players praise the story and writing, but many feel it is more of a narrative than a game. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game is short and linear, with limited replay value. [4][5][6] The morality system is criticized for forcing players to make evil choices to progress. [7][8][9]

This should be a DLC for Legends of Eisenwald but for some bizzare reason is a standalone game. And is priced as a standalone game. You can actually find similar scenarios in the workshop for Legends of Eisenwald, for free. Actually you get 2/3 of the game as you cannot play the ranged character. Quests are a straight line. Your choices do not matter and have no impact on the game. No side quests either. The game …

This game has very litle of Legends of Eisenwald. Actually it has very little of the game. It's more like a short story about human society and its cruel laws. As a literature story - it's quite good. I'm certain author of the script is familiar with brothers Strugatski. Bastard could be a good educational instrument for school teachers who wants to show their students the difference between the right and the wrong. …

If you liked the combat in their first couple versions of this game (i.e., Eisenwald, etc.) then you will like this game as well, as it is the same, just a different story. TLDR - Good game for those who like to read, misses some of the strong sides of Legends of Eisenwald. The new expansion to Legends of Eisenwald is not something I was expecting. I was rather happy with Road to Iron Forest and Blood of November. I both like story aspect of LoE and combat aspect. For story, I played the main campaign several times and it was amazing. Your hipster character steps through a space-time vortex while standing in line at Starbucks. What follows is a social justice crusade in medieval Germany, where the charm and wit of previous Eisenwald scenarios are replaced with 21st century moral dilemmas. This gets a thumbs down because the man bun isnt an equipable item.

Standalone DLC for Legends of Eisenwald. If You liked that game get this one, just more of the same with a new mini campaign and some new mechanics. Around 10h long for one playthrough, 3 but in reality 2 different endings that heavily depends on you actions thru the game. Worth the price, steal when discounted. Also all the crashes and bugs are fixed so most of negative reviews are invalid now.

The world is sterile and cold. To little that happens on a small map. The difficulty level is ridiculus. I found my self in the second part outnumbered 3 to 1 at every encounter. And no gold. And my troops were inferior in quality to the enemy. I was not able to engange with the game because i was so insanly outgunned at every turn. The first part was more as it should have been.

If the original "Legends of Eisenwald" was a solid, albeit somewhat clunky, representative of the genre, then "Bastard" is a small expansion built on the same engine. The main focus here is on a grim story and a philosophical undertone that, while deserving of some praise, is not enough to make this game truly enjoyable. All game mechanics are carried over from the original. The only new addition is the "reputation" system. As you progress, you encounter various events where you must make…

Fun little game so far. I'm enjoying the dialogue choices with the authority balance and the combat is a fun break from the talking. It's not a hard game to figure out and you can jump right in. The movement is a bit annoying but once you get used to it it's not bad. I like constantly updating my position but you stop dead in your tracks if you click again so it's better to just let your character walk its original path.

Although this game has a lower STEAM score than it's companion game (Legends of Eisenwald) and that I gave that game a thumbs-down -- I have to give this game a hearty thumbs-up. Yes, the 2 game's combat and economy systems play nearly identically, but I believe this game is much better for the following reasons: -Overall story is more coherent, it had me paying attention and trying to remember details rather than mashing the next button to get to the next encounter, -You don't lose your…

Clunky. Awkward. Frustrating. Pointless These are a few of the words that I would use to describe this game. I dont mind a clunky game, sometimes that can be a rather charming trait. Like a terrible movie that's so bad, it's actually good fun. That's not the case with Bastard. This game is punishing to play on many levels. Decent game, similar to kings bounty combat wise, unless you become a real hard arse you will have difficulty with the campaign. I can't figure out if the writers think misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, and willful ignorance are fun or just profitable. There is no way to win this game without encouraging or at least acquiescing to all of the above. It was just barely worth the couple of dollars I paid for it, and has very little replay value (unless you get your kicks from encouraging people to kill rape victims and scientists, in which case, please stay away from me).

This game is the equivalent of a wet fart. Gives you closure while leaving you with disgusting underwear. It's at best some form of DLC for Legends of Eisenwald, the latter being the far better option in terms of story. 'Bastard' isn't bad. Like all Eisenwald games it comes over as somewhat unfinished (locations that don't seem to have anything going on, parts of the map dismayingly empty, quest markers that are kind of there only if the map designer felt like it that week) but it's nicely characterful, has a few good 'oh, right, that's what this historical period was sort of like' moments and if you want to get anywhere, you actually need to be what the title says you are. Desperately needs more content…

Refer to what I wrote for Legends of Eisenwald if you want a longer overview - this is a stand-alone expansion pack for that. I'll just give my short thoughts here. There's nothing inherently wrong here: it's Eisenwald with another story and some technical tweaks. The world is a bit more linear, but there's still quite a nice story with room for options to choose how you want to proceed. You should like this enough if you are an Eisenwald fan.
