A nicely thought out game let down by an extraordinarily frustrating mechanic: infinite reaction fire. Essentially an enemy unit can get what seems to be infinite shots at your unit each time you take any action with it, as long as your unit is within range of it, regardless of its own "Action Points" or its remaining shots per turn. This creates an extraordinarily favourable situation for a defender but a very …

Not quite Close Combat or Panzer General but pretty close. TL;DR = A fun turn based historical squad and platoon sim for beginners or veterans = 8/10. Basic tactics are well done, terrain will affect view and protection. Dismouted Scouts, wheeled & tracked Recce Vehs / APCs (Sdkfz 234/1 armored car, Sdkfz 251/16 half-track and more) are used to peel back the fog of war, and find the soft targets that cannot …

The BA series will appeal to the WWII gamer who appreciates a balance between ease of play, graphics and depth of strategy/logistics. Quite easy to learn the basics of BA, takes a bit of experience to utilize the various units to the their maximum. The strategies are important if you wish to do well and keep your units alive, yet, not too large of a learning curve. Graphics are somewhat "comic book" in nature, not …

Battle Academy is a fun turn-based tabletop tactics game that reminds me of my old hex-map, counters and dice days, except BA does all the die rolls and result table look-ups for you. Don't expect sprawling maps or dazzling graphics, this is a minimalist game, but it's great for a few minutes of fun at the end of a long day when you have neither the time or the brain cells for an evening-long gaming slog. I got mine …

I've played about every scenario available for this game, both fan made and company endorsed, so obviously I like it. This is what they used to call a great 'beer and pretzels' game, meaning it's challenging but not too complicated. Not high in realism but the tank battles are good fun and there are some challenging scenarios that require the right tactics to overcome. You will usually win, if not always the first …

As an old-time wargamer who used to create his own armies out of plastic model kits and figurines, I have to say that I really like this game. It reminds me of the old beer-and-pretzels games that I used to play back in the day. It makes sense that the game was built this way considering that it was originally commissioned by the BBC (yes, that BBC). That explains the graphics and the square grid maps. I know it looks like a Litchtenstein painting. Get over that. It's quite a good game. This…

This turn-based strategy game offers some innovative ideas, but fails on execution of those ideas. It tries to freshen up the old Panzer General formula, but poor explanation of mechanics and bugs make for an irritating experience. The Good: Morale System. Units in the game have morale, and when fired at enough, even if not killed, will be suppressed and then retreat, at which point they can be captured by any adjacent unit. This is a good system, but it is not really explained well. Units and…

it's not a bad t-rpg. However, it has some flaws that I'd rather not recommend it unless it's on very cheap price. I would rate it neutral, but there is no option unfortunately. It has a unique experience of how to use infantry, because if they are out in the open, they will be gone pretty quick. Learning how to take care of infantry is essential. Considering that the title is based on actual battles during World War 2, you get to learn few historical facts which I appreciated. Generally…

Most of the missions a designed to be in the favour of the AI You have never enough troops, enemy always outnumbers you, they have alot of "luck", are trained and have great advantageous positions. Attacking is a pain as the LOS is terrible and you will run into enemys never moved a meter and waiting for you to come so you lose troops while the enemy skills up. Defending is king but again they came in a 10 vs 1 ratio which is no fun at all. Aswell if a mission goes to well its a question of…

The problem with "My First Battle" is that it looks like a very simplified version of Pokemon. You can play with those decks, but you aren't going to be able to play a full Pokemon game with them. If the nephew wants to play with friends, I'd look for other decks or something like Battle Academy, which will teach how to play the game but with full cards.

Good game with 2 issues: 1. Lots of expensive DLC means I would wait until at least a 50% off sale 2. You don't get to take your army from one battle to the next - you get a whole new army at the beginning of each battle which kinda sucks if you're like me and prefer the Panzer General method where you get to choose and upgrade your army throughout the campaign

Like the second part very much But this one, is just plain frustrating. Most of the missions a designed to be "At the edge". Never enough troops, enemy always numerous, better equipped, trained and has advantageous positions, and you cant play carefully because of the strict turn limit. Its a puzzle game, not a tactical strategy. if you want a more interesting and flexible gameplay - play Battle Academy 2

As a cartoony turn-based strategy game with square tiles and simple mechanics, BA reminds me of Advance Wars. The game revolves a lot around positionning your units so they can intercept the enemy units when they're moving, making the game interesting during both your turn and the AI's turn. Defense missions are especially interesting. The game is quite addictive and full of content even if you don't buy the DLC. A great blend of realism as well as very playable. It is the best tactical WW2 game I've played and I've been playing them going back 40 years, going back to the board games Squad Leader and Panzerblitz. It captures the essence of those games without their complex overhead, command control, supply, ammo etc, Bottom line is its a lot of fun and has a high replay value, if you're interested in this type of game.

The visual style of this game is deceptive: there's far more depth and challenge on offer here than you'd expect, and even in 2020 it's incredibly playable. The game's age and mobile lineage mean that you'll have to do without a lot of the UI niceties and conveniences you'd expect from a more modern PC game, but the core gameplay is quick and accessible enough that it's not a big deal. I had eyed this title many times over the years but never pulled the trigger. Why? Well, a bit of wargaming purist snobbery: real wargames can't use tiles, right?!? Well, that was a big mistake, this is a wonderful title. Very accessible, yet challenging. And, make no mistake, it is a proper wargame in the classical sense of the word. To all those gaming "snobs" who turn their noses up at mobile ports, but like this - remember, this was an IOS and Android App before going to PC. As such, and this is something I like about mobile ports, is that the presentation can look like a graphic novel in it's briefings and story telling. If you played the great Steel Panthers back in the day, then you'll know what I say when I tell you Battle Academy is Steel Panthers Lite - and I mean that mostly as a compliment. The game plays fast and you'll experience again the fun (and frustration!) of doing things like trying to kill a Tiger with a Sherman, and watching helplessly as round after round pings off the Tiger's armor. Technically sound and maybe a great title on mobile but for PC I just find it to be a thin experience with muddy graphics compared to something like Panzer Corp, etc. As much as the game is very much playable and ok from a design perspective, I can't think of a reason why you should play this over a title like Panzer Corp.

This is a simple but challenging World War Two turn-based strategy game that's surprisingly better than Panzer Corps because the enemy doesn't receive unlimited reinforcements, doesn't have twice the numbers you start with, and the probabilities aren't stacked massively against you after the tutorial. There are so many campaigns to choose from, and for British grownups there's a happy reminder of "Warlord" comic and the games of toy soldiers we played as children. For "serious" wargamers, it's…

The core campaigns are solid, with a good mix of mission types and tactical options. What really keeps it going is the extra content. wtf is going on with your game???! lmao at first glance it seems to be what i paid for: a not so polished and slightly clunky turn based strategy game. that was expected. boy oh boy just for starters; i jump into the tutorial...walks me thru issuing move orders and goes way too in depth on how to use the mouse lol but then before it can make it to any sort of game mechanics or any other basics it glitches me out of the tutorial...guess i was done lol whatever. i pop into the first campaign…

This is an old, poorly made turn based strategy game set in World War 2. The game is highly simplified, allowing people who would not consider playing a turn based strategy game access to a game format they wouldn't want to play, and therefore don't. This is certainly masterful business planning. It's an older game and hasn't been updated to support modern PCs. The resolution and aspect ratios are deficient and below standards here. It's worth noting that, due to the low effort, low…

Originally, I didn't like the game but that's because I didn't really understand how everything worked. At first glance, you think the game is simple because the graphics aren't amazing and it seems kind of weak - that is totally not true at all. I did the tutorial, but that didn't really help. In fact, it was painfully vague. I looked up the handbook online to explain things and that helped a lot. I played a few games because I was craving a good tabletop wargame substitute and this honestly…

Great fun. More complex than you'd think it would be if you were just looking at the cartoon like graphics.

Overrated, overpriced mobile game port. Clunky as hell, simply mechanics with lots of numbers on beta-like tooltips in comic sans like font to make the game feel more complicated than it is.

Good introduction to WWII tactical wargames. The game looks attractive and there are not many controls to master to start playing, but it's still a challenge to play. Charging a few entrenched infantry without scouting and sufficient suppressive fire will get you absolutely slaughtered. The UI is a bit awkward though, instead of the classic left click to select, right-click to act we're used to from RTS, it's left-click to select and act, and right-click to deselect. You get used to it but it…
