Some find the game repetitive or not a true rhythm game. [1][2] Many appreciate the ability to use their own music. [3][4][5]

This isn't a rhythm game. It's a shoot 'em up + audio visualizer, meaning there are lights synchronizing with the beat of the song (most of the time). And no, enemy spaceships don't appear according to the music's rhythm nor does it affect anything other than the background lights and your laser's rate of fire. It's a nice combo of audio visualizer with Shoot 'em up, but that's all it is, NOT a rhythm-driven …

Warning! Epilepsy Hazard! Frantic music shooter where your goal is to complete each track in the game (42 available as default built in tracks). You shoot space junk, spaceships and other stuff while avoiding bullets, collisions etc. and compete for high score. You can put your own tracks to play and game will generate some random waves of enemies for you. Gameplay is good and responsive. Volume raises as you pick …

Beat Hazard is a bullet hell rhythm single/multi player game where you have to dodge bullets, and destroy enemies while listening to intense music. I recommend this game because it was fun to play with my friends. You can upload your own music, and it syncs quite fine with the game's atmosphere. It may get a bit repetitive after a while, but it is enjoyable while it lasts. 7/10.

"Asteroids on Steroids". At this point, this is an older game, but it still checks out. If you have a music library (especially EDM), you will have hours of fun playing your songs. Beat Hazard gets a lot of things right. Chillout vs Challenge: The game has options to tune to your mood. If you've had a rough day at work and your brain is cooked, turn down the effects, pick an easy difficulty, and zone out while …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If they sued games like Beat Hazard for letting players use their own music in the game, that'd be like suing a media player for letting people play music with it. So imagine how much dumber this is.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beat Hazard is now on PS5/PS4!!!! This fantastic game also has a bunch of my songs included which is pretty neat too! :)
positive · AI labelView post →This week marks the 15th Birthday of Beat Hazard on Steam! To all players new and old, thank you so much for all the support during that time. It's been amazing. The game is on sale right now, so be sure to spread the word! #indiedev #gamedev #steam store.steampowered.com/app/1493520/...

neutral · AI labelView post →Get beat hazard 2 instead, this game is dated and is clunky as all hell. it's also missing many core features that Beat hazard 2 expanded upon, not mentioning better combat and more ship customization. i give this a 6/10 for old times sake. https://store.steampowered.com/app/618740/Beat_Hazard_2/

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, Dead as Disco has the juice. They mixed together Arkham combat, Hi-Fi Rush, Beat Hazard, Sifu, etc. and it goes incredibly hard. Absolute beast of a game once it's finished, but feel free to jump in now if you want.
neutral · AI labelView post →Another hidden gem i found thanks to a demo in 2024. Awesome game for offline music enjoyers. I only wished i found it sooner. I've played music games before and i don't know anything similar to beat hazard. What does the game offer? 1. Procedurally generated levels based on your audio files. 2. Various types of leaderboards for competition. 3. Three game modes (survival, boss rush and regular) 4. Custom ships, perks, missions. 5. Lots and lots of score farming including different tactics.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remember when you were bored of Audiofurf and wanted to enjoy your music but crossed with Geometry Wars? Well, this is that game. I have no idea how the sequels are, but I have fond memories of playing Beat Hazard.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of today, Bone: Out from Boneville (2005) is the 533th best game of all time according to me, directly below Quest 64 and directly above Beat Hazard. It is part of Tier 23. There are 25 tiers and 583 games in the list #PixelRankings

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun arcade-style game you can just pick up and kill some time. Just beware of the sensory-overload, soon as the beat drops your screen will light up like a pin ball machine having a nervous breakdown during a rave.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game from the 360 era. A somewhat rhythm-based Galaga style game with your own music was awesome back on Xbox 360 during those days. It's worth grabbing on sale and chilling to your own music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's under 200MB and there's so much content and replay value. Would love to see a version with uncompressed audio and images. Having more control in the settings would be nice, too. The slider of visual distractions only going down to 50% is pretty annoying. Visual clarity is something I value quite a bit, so allowing that setting to go to 0% would be perfect.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun for a while, but I've only just started and I can see the end of my enjoyment of the game on day one. The game doesn't have a sufficient library of stuff that it can throw at you to provide varied game play. Pretty much the same things spawn whether you've loaded something from the included music library, some pretty horrid music practice you decided to record, or an audio book.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beat Hazard is an unusual pull but I respect it. That game does very well with elaborate power metal (stuff like Rhapsody of Fire or Amon Amarth)
positive · AI labelView post →An endless classic that feels superior to it's sequels for some reason.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable and easy gameplay. It'll keep you hooked for a couple of hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Makes your eyes hurt, but in a good way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That's fair enough. I like the idea of rhythm games, but I don't feel anything from playing them. Even, like, Crypt of the Necrodancer isn't as engaging as I wish it was. I think my favorite one is a game called "Beat Hazard" (though, it's not really a "Rhythm" game) because it's incredibly flashy.
positive · AI labelView post →I can't see sh*t from the flashing. It can be toned down a bit, but it's still painful. And your music mostly controls the flashing. So if you like high octane music, prepare to see only flashing clouds...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing Beat Hazard 3. Everything the game does (enemy type and movement, main gun's power and angle, etc.) is based on pitch, tempo, etc. of the music. What better music for bot kicking action than @cybertronicspree.bsky.social ? Let's blast away! 'Til all are none! youtu.be/pcCR7bUn9ks
positive · AI labelView post →This is an excellent way for me to visualize beats when i'm producing for people. Plus it's just awesome to hear my own music playing on a game, in sync with the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Importing my playlist was a bad idea, now I don't want to leave the game. Can't wait to try this on the Oled and let my neighbours think theirs a strobe party in my room. Inspiring and very fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bugs never fixed. stuck in loading screen. crashes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic top-down shooter that goes to the music, there is a soundtrack but you can also play your own music. A classic, a must-have.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Always love that i get to use my own music instead of the same songs over and over, became highly addictive and most of all fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A simple but randomized game that uses your music to change it. Honestly it's just an Asteroids clone in gameplay. But that simplicity makes it good to this day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This dual-stick shooter has a unique feature that keeps me coming back for more! This feature is the ability to use your own songs in a level. Then essentially procedurally generates enemies depends on what song is played.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played music I made to see what the results would look like in this game. It kept throwing space garbage at me...

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overview: 'Beat Hazard' is a high adrenaline twin-stick shooter that is fueled by your own music. It's hard to argue against a game being fun while you're decimating a huge pool of spaceships, asteroids and dodging a plethora of projectiles while rocking out to your best, most favorite tracks. 'Beat Hazard' is super fun and is jam packed full of fun gunplay, beautiful graphics and well, unsurprisingly, the best soundtrack ever and honestly had me constantly coming back for more. Gameplay: It's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fine, I guess. While it's cool that I can choose any music file on my computer, I don't feel the enemy intensity or patterns really follow the music rhythm. The gameplay doesn't really fit with calm or low-BPM tracks music, either.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beat Hazard pros: //fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on //good amount of action and special effects cons: //some difficult battles/boss battles //upgrades are a grindfest which require a lot of resources //a little repetitive //good game Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $0.49 Or Less During Sale extra notes: //use your starships and destroy meteors and enemy ships //collect loot, unlock perks to make your starship stronger…
