Bezier
Developer Philip Bak, NiineGames
Bezier is a dual stick blaster set inside a vast computer built deep underground. The story traces the principal's escape from this "Noah's Ark" gone wrong. A simple shooter on the surface, the deeper narrative pulls in his relationship between evolution and god, family and love. From the Steam store page

A lesson all devs should learn: just because you can make your game sparkly and pretty doesn't mean you should. There are 3D magic eye pictures that aren't as visually busy as this, meaning it's ridiculously hard to distinguish between what can damage you and what can't, and you will be hit by things you didn't see in the glare and bloom. Bezier is not just pretty, it's pretty boring - destroy X number of shields …

Target Audience: Twin stick shooters or SHMUP fans would be doing themselves a disservice by missing out on this game. Summary: The game can't do much better in the twin stick shooter genre. Really good design elements here all the over place as the action is kept tight, but it's refreshing how many tweaks went into the basics of the genre that worked well here. The focus on avoiding enemies while giving you crowd …

Bezier is a hard sell. Trying to explain why it's so exceptional, one cannot help but fall into comparisons. It's like geometry wars, it's got Sinistar flavors, it also channels Asteroids... Bezier does draw very heavily from these classics yet is surprisingly refreshing due to its near-flawless execution. Trying to describe the game is also selling it short. A twin-stick shooter where enemies attack you in …

Incredible. Banging tunes. Visual effects are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nuts. Marries so many concepts, ideas and mechanics so smoothly. Wonderful variety in the enemies and abilities. My only gripe would be it's sometimes hard for me to discern what's happening underneath all the gorgeous neon effects. A so far underappreciated gem in an oversaturated "indie market." All I can say in the end is it reminds me of all those days I …

I'm going through my entire library and putting a minimum of an hour into each game and then reviewing them, here is mine for Bezier. I have to be honest. I'm not a huge fan of shmups. This one was entertaining though and I liked how they give you a little more of the story as you go through it. Was a tad visually busy for my brain though. 77% of the 96 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Bezier. The complaint that keeps coming up: visuals are too busy and hard to read. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction Released on 3rd March 2016, published by Niine Games and developed by Philip Bak, Bezier is a simple shooter on the surface, but pulls you in with a deep narrative exploring relationships between evolution, god, family and love. Bezier mixes together a blend of a fun Arcade shooter, with a rather deep storyline that pulls you in wanting you to play more of the game. This game follows the rather classic shoot em’ up genre of gameplay as you go through each zone. As expected in most…

Sights and sounds explode...controls are smooth, WASD and Mouse 1 and 2 are all you need...for us non-controller gamers, and it's a BLAST to play! A lot of fun, and the you get the kind of rush that arcades used to give. A new favorite, for sure.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I keep coming back to this but something is stopping me from committing. 1. Seems expensive 2. Is it just meta'ing for meta's sake? 3. Will Bezier bring out a 'super big box' a year later, rendering this version sub-optimal. #boardgames boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/44...

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a big fan of twin-stick shooters. There have been some great games in the past; geometry wars, waves, etc.. In my opinion this game is not just another run-of-the-mill clone, this game feels very highly polished. Apart from Health and Special Weapon pickups you have to understand that the only other things you want to touch are the green and blue 'droplets'. Everything else, you either avoid or destroy. Try to use your 'manual' gun as much as you can and sparingly use the 'automatic' gun…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a lover of all things neon and twin-stick, but this game gets it completely wrong. The presentation is a mess with so much conflicting information and ugly noise you'll never see what hits you. Maybe it's fun once you're fully upgraded, and that is the definition of broken design. Skip it. Spend your money on some burgers. ☒

Brilliant, you can even make yourself in the cacophony while you rain down destruction on your enemies. Movement and shooting feel great too, and the upgrades give a nice feel of progression. An excellent game all round and I highly recommend it, especially if you like your twin stick shooters. It woudln't be right to end the review there, another stand out feature has to be the…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's fun game for about an hour and a half, very colorful and flashy, with a nice soundtrack and an undeniable charm. But I can't recommend this one because it has a major design flaw that hinders the experience. Basically the game is TOO flashy: there are some particles you're supposed to touch, some particles you're supposed to avoid, and some particles that don't matter... and it's very difficult to tell what any of these are at a moment's glance because any particle can be any color. You…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DECENTLY good concept and pretty fun to control in various switches and turns! But leveling up is such a pain in the starch cracks of rage throwback enrollment!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short, sweet and extremely fun to play.(I only played the campaign on Normal dificulty) Once started, I couldn't let it go. Amazing combination of audio and visual. (At certain points, evading the enemies felt like dancing) It also has a persistent leveling system. (Each time you start over, you keep the level and skills of your ship)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too visually busy to really see what's going on. Not much variety to the game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't had a headache this bad since I played Geometry Wars Retro Evolved for 7 hours straight, and I LOVE IT. Bezier is a stunning-looking and even better-sounding sci-fi arena shooter. If you've played Geometry Wars you'll know the drill: flit about between hordes of glowing neon baddies, pounding them with a constant stream of rapid-fire ammunition. This is a more complex game though, with resource management, combo chaining, ship upgrades and even mini-boss battles that are almost…

Plenty of health to collect when you receive damage. The story mode which I finished plays alright but it's not much of a challenge in standard difficulty. I assume the higher difficulty would be more challenging. When you play long enough you can increase your level. With certain levels reached you get a coin to spend on upgrades. Personally I don't find it worth my time to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it when it was on sale, but I think it's worth full price. One of those games that surprises you with how much effort they put into it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A twin-stick shooter needs to have the right feel and Bezier just didn't have that for me. The feedback from firing and hitting enemies, the design of the enemies themselves and the mechanic of destroying the shields... none of that felt remotely pleasurable. Keep waiting for the "next Geometry Wars", I suppose.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A breezy, challenging twin stick shooter that doesn't feel like other shoot em ups because not needlessly punishing to play. At no point does the game overwhelm with enemy placement, unclear boss patterns. The campaign feels less like a gauntlet the more you play, thanks to a really neat progression system that carries over to daily and Endurance modes. What makes this a clincher is that heavenly soundtrack that plays.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A delightful mashup of beloved arcade classics Robotron, Bosconian, Sinistar and Star Castle, by way of Geometry Wars. Nicely designed upgrade system adds a fun layer of strategic decision-making and increases replayability. Not as difficult as some other shmups, but challenging enough to be satisfying. As an indie project with a single named developer a la old school Activision/EA, very impressive. If you're a fan of any of the aforementioned influencing games, you won't want to miss the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I highly recommend this for twin-stick shooter or just general arcade-style game fans. Even if you aren't such a person, you may find this game fun because of the unique aesthetic and relatively forgiving difficulty curve.
