It started out promisingly, but quickly became boring and overly repetitive. Despite the game trailers made it look more action-packed than it actually is. It's a stealth shooter with an oddly broken stealth system and awkward RPG mechanics. The combat system is flawed: make one wrong move and you’re dead. You have to start all over again. Blood West is a super unique mix of weird west and horror that just hits different. The atmosphere is creepy in the best way, and exploring feels genuinely rewarding with lots of freedom in how you play. I finished the base game and I’m already planning a second run after I beat the DLC. Definitely a hidden gem if you like tense, immersive games.

There's stealth games, and then there's Blood West. Calling this game a "stealth game", although technically true, is doing it a SEVERE disservice and undermines the fact that in reality it is just so so much more. In reality it is an entire open world immersive sim experience, with gameplay similar to the original STALKER games like Shadow of Chernobyl. I've seen a lot of people compare it to a "Singleplayer Hunt …

Extremely niche, and it seems that the audience this is tailored for adores it, so I'm glad for them. For me, this game is just way too punishing for little incentive. If you aren't inherently tempted to explore a barren wasteland for the hell of it, then the ludicrious early enemy damage and lackluster gunplay and ammo pigeonholes you into a stealth melee playstyle. Stealth is basic and binary (either an enemy knows exactly your position and is beelining to kill you, or they have no idea you…

Something wrong is going on with this game's balance. When in stealth enemies react properly by patrolling their routes and trying to spot you with their senses. I even saw a foe reacting to shots and going to investigate. But once spotted, they instantly know where you are and swarm towards you. There's no way of circling a building to flank them - they just turn around and meet you halfway. At the same time alerted state makes enemies bullet sponges. I thought I had bad aim, but I repeatedly…

Blood West was a great game, questionably marketed. Folks expected a boomer shooter. When it wasn't one of those, folks expected an immersive sim. It's not really that either. It's weirdly more Souls-like than anything? Anyway, big sandbox roguelikey DLC out soon, $5.

This was fun for a bit, but its problems really grate on you the more you play. Unfortunately, it's all a little too basic. The game confuses outdated for classic; many of its systems are frustrating. The combat and enemy AI is very one-dimensional, with the same one or two options being the most optimal. It doesn't matter how cool the environment looks when there's absolutely no way to interact with it and meaningfully use it to your advantage. It actively discourages experimentation with a…

I could not have fun with this game. There were some moments that were pretty good, but it very quickly gets worse throughout the chapters. On the third chapter, there is a huge difficulty spike, and I just could not get used to it. As well, it feels confusing that the game would punish me for dying. If I was having trouble with the game, why would cursing me every time I die be encouraging? And some things are needlessly expensive, there is one gun that is 18000 dollars and I can't see how you…

I am extremely hot and cold on Blood West. There's so much here it's trying to do that I really like - a stealth action game that feels like it's heavily indebted to, of all things, System Shock 2 despite its western theme, and one that tries to really fix the weightlessness of death in that game.

its hard to put into words why I love this game other than it scratches an itch that isn't captured by enough games. It's an open world stealth shooter that remind me of how the good parts of Hunt: Showdown felt. It doesn't fail to meet the expectations, but it feels like its missing a few core mechanics and scale that it tempts at achieving, and leaves a game that is just a solid…

This game is janky, but for me it's a comfort jank. It's the kind of jank that reminds me of playing shooters when I was a kid; when the enemy was hard but the AI was bad, so I could snipe from roofs and enemies didn't know how to react. It's a jank that makes me feel smart when I figure out how to game it to my advantage to overcome difficult challenges. It's the rare good jank that makes me love it all the more. Jank aside, I loved it from start to finish. The atmosphere and direction…

A semi open world sandbox stealth game The game has an interesting proposal, with a strong start. But it lacks on adding anything new after its first hours. Along the game, it presents slighty different mosnter. All else stays the same. There is a good atmosphere/art, but the story is quite boring. The gameplay is quite promissing, but the game lacks depth. I think it is very overrated. Would give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Just a bunch of fetch-quests for boring NPCs with braindead enemies (with static spawns too, everything is predictable. Static spawns work for Dark Souls because of the big amount of different encounters but it doesn't work here since this game is a collection of the same encounter being repeated 100 times) and almost non existent stealth mechanics. Shooting enemies is kinda fun at first but it gets boring really quick too because of them being so dumb and non threatening to the player. Loot…

Excellent stealth game and I emphasize "stealth". Going in Rambo style is not how this is supposed to be played, just keep that in mind. Every situation needs to be approached carefully, with an espace plan if things go wrong and so on. And I love this game for exactly that because it is done so well. A lot of weapons, amulets, upgrades and items that lead to a lot of different playstyles and I dare say there is something there for everyone. You like big shotguns, no problem. Knife is your…

Technically well-made but deeply unrewarding, Blood West was a game i'd gotten a while ago that I actually had high hopes for, however the longer I played, the less satisfied I felt. So, I made the error of assuming this mainly a retro FPS, not a stealth FPS, so unfortunately I picked a much harder difficulty on the assumption that it was a different genre of FPS. However, a lot of my errors were more about the actual design of the game. For example, I had issues with headshots. For some…

Satisfying, but even most powerful guns (aside from the shotguns) require headshots on trash enemies for fast kills.
