I really wanted to like this game. The visuals are gorgeous, the story *should* be compelling, and I was hoping for a Firewatch-esque kind of emotional reaction, based on what I knew of the game going in. Unfortunately, the actor doing the narration is very flat and dull, and despite such a tragic storyline, the way it's delivered fails to bring out any sort of emotional response. I'm the kind of person who cries at …

Beautiful visuals, great music, interesting story, and there's an auto-run button! You can hold a beer with one hand and play the game with the other. Well, kind of. If you're into walking simulators, Tonguc makes them proudly and they're pretty damn good. I think this is his best yet.

Bottle: Pilgrim is the latest creation from solo developer Tonguc Bodur. Anyone familiar with his previous work knows that they wear the "walking simulator" tag proudly. They are generally brief, averaging a few hours to complete, usually narrated, and with a background soundtrack. I think most gamers are clearly divided on walking sims, either you enjoy them or you don't. I find them to be a welcome diversion from the mainstream releases, an occasional oasis of contemplation, reflection and…

If you think you can play this game as usually you do with other games, then don't buy it. Cause this game is an intense, deep emotional journey for which you need to have a certain "sensitivity", and it must be lived as such until the end. Forget for a moment having to "unlock" all the achievements, don't rush to finish...but let the game guide you in the mind and in the soul of the protagonist. Is it possible to have memory of what our past life was and be able to survive the pain that we…

If you see the name of Tonguc Bodur you can immediately guess the game in question is a walking sim with some gorgeous vistas and relaxing music included. These walking sims usually take an hour or so to complete and by doing a walkthrough obtaining all achievements is usually possible. Although Pilgrim is a namesake (released just a year after Bottle) it isn't just about solitude but there is a lot of emphasis on loss here. The theme, from an emotional perspective, is much more difficult…

Introduction Bottle: Pilgrim has been a difficult experience for me to handle. That’s not to say that the game is at fault in any way. The subject it treats is very delicate and I knew that it was just a matter of time until Tonguç Bodur shall elaborate a more tragic story within his walking simulations. In his 8th Steam project to date, this talented developer has proved to me once more that both his vision and his game worlds can shift towards unexpected locations and themes. Always an…

Lovely walk-a-bout. The story is fed to you in bits throughout, and in a rather dry way. I found the items to be found had no value towards the story, and were simply a way to get achievements (I presume). I was unable to go about my life between chapters, as there is no save feature, so the game had to be running all the time (or start the short chapters over). Still, I liked this game and found it to be beautiful and restful to play.

From the creators of DrizzlePath comes a visually pretty game that suffers from a lack of actual content to explore and some odd vocal choices. The story is sort of interesting but definitely doesn't feel linked to the gameplay or locations in any way. At a certain point the "pretty" just becomes noise. That point happened to me in the first half hour. If you like walking simulators, this is not bad. If you don't, stay away. https://youtu.be/FPHJmY07QIk

I here on my intoxicating journey know that in fact mistakes and actions don't come back, they don't hit the wind and dilute in the air. you get stuck on what you feel, what you did and even what you didn't do! A sad story of love, loss, and redemption. This is hardly a unique story. The score and narration were fairly flat. I would suggest the Developer not use the writer for narration as he lacked any emotional depth in the narration. Achievements are a bit beneign and simply focus on collecting very easy to spot objects that don't seem to add any context to the story. I feel like this game could have been drastically improved with better narration since it really is the only focus beyond the…

I am quite the fan of Tonguç Bodur's work, and so I was pleased to finally have the time and opportunity to play through Bottle: Pilgrim. So, how did Bottle: Pilgrim stack up both as a walking simulator and a continuation of Tonguç's previous games? Graphics The graphics continue to evolve as Tonguç refines both his craft and his use of assets to create lush and beautiful landscapes that can't help but be pleasing to the eye. I feel this is the most important aspect of walking simulators, and…

This is a decent game with a great story and OK visuals. I got this game for $5 and I'll be honest, if it was anymore I'd have asked for a refund. I was able to 100% the game in 1.5hrs and sat on the main screen for a little while after the game ended. Pros: The story is superb and earning the achievements is enjoyable as there are a couple fun ones. Cons: The "run" speed feels like I'm just waking up from a long nap and the "walking" speed is more like I'm trying to tiptoe through the…

Bottle: Pilgrim is the prequel to Tonguc Bodur's megahit Bottle, a walking simulator in which you read some poems and learn that you're a drunkard. In the prequel, you find out <i>why</i>. *cue dramatic music* To up the ante, Bodur has allowed his new partner in crime, Michael Bowser, to write the entire script for the game, and this is the main point of interest for me. Pilgrim plays pretty similarly to previous Cognac Boudoir titles in that you walk around in a scenic setting, "deep"…

Having played tonguç bodur's Bottle, his first title yesterday, I decided to play the 'sequel' - not really a sequel, but more a similar style of story but which benefited from two years of the dev's experience. The original was decent enough for a half hour to hour's entertainment, and while rough in places (particularly framerate) the content was charming and engaging. Pilgrim is pretty much the same vein - a walking simulator in which you play an unnamed character who is walking through…

I enjoyed this game. It was very relaxing and there are decent amount of steam achievements to collect also. I did encounter a glitch in the first chapter though. The movement was glitched so you could not stop moving. By pressing S (which usually makes you walk backward) didn't seem to do anything. There was no way to stop so I just went with the flow until I completed the first chapter. I did not encounter this issue again in any of the other chapters. The game has a save feature at the…

A walking simulator about a pilgrimage a man makes every year from a mountaintop to a beach below. There is a voice over about the man reciting about his life and battle with the bottle and the effects of his drinking. You walk at a slow pace, but you can go faster with controls. The story and theme are excellent, but are let down by the game play. Each chapter contains 5 collectables and there are 4 chapters. This means you have to look in every nook and cranny to make sure you don't miss…

Reviewing Tonguç Bodur's walking sims is always really dificult because, on the one hand, he does a superb job with the visuals, and on the other hand, his other design choices can be maddening. Bottom line up front: If you've played Mr Bodur's other titles and enjoy them, then grab this on sale. If not, I cannot recommend this title because it has some flaws that make it a sub-par walking sim, despite also having some positive aspects as well. Let's start with the good. The story is above…

My first walking simulator I played was 'Bottle' so when I see this in my recommended I instantly had to snag it. Will have to go back and finish the different achievements, the game itself has improved immensely since Bottle, the snow scene is probably my favorite. Looking at other reviews people didn't seem too fond on the voice acting here, but I think it was rather good since it was more of a story time, remembering his past. An immense improvement from the previous game, which was already very enjoyable, making this sequel a masterpiece of a walking simulator. From the first moments of the game, you can already notice and appreciate the gorgeous graphics that make this kind of game (where gameplay is not really relevant or present at all) a much more pleasant experience. I'm sorry to say that this my first ever refund at steam. The level design is good. The story is, well, ok. And that's it, that's all the game offers. Paired with a pretty slow movement speed, even when running, making it super boring. You basicly can't do anything but walk along a predefined path and continue to listen to the story. Just as with the other walking games by this developer, Bottle Pilgrim is both beautiful and enjoyable. I recommend it if you like games of this ilk and/or have enjoyed other games by Tonguc Bodur. This one's storyline is quite melancholy, but it's easy to see what will unfold and I didn't feel taken by surprise by the story's events. Tries so hard to be Dear Esther, but Esther was beautifully written, realised and scored. This has some nice visuals, however the lens flares and extreme color scheme is a bit hard on the eyes and I felt the urge to wipe my glasses clean at every turn. Visuals are absolutely beautiful, gameplay as expected to be just a relaxing walking sim driven by a deep storyline. All and all I did have a good time and enjoyed the story but just wish it was a bit more tied to general gameplay, than just "reliving locations of the past" and doing a huge pilgrimage. In my opinion kinda misses a bit of livelihood or engagement from or with the player if that makes sense.

I'm a massive fan of these walking simulator games where the focus is less on the gameplay and more on telling an interesting and often times thought provoking and emotional story.
