It's a very sad thumbs down, because I really *want* to like this game, but 150 hours and a year later, it just doesn't feel like it's coming together. The power allotment and heat management systems are a fun. Crew abilities, equipment/loadout changes, are great, but at the end of the day, most runs are simply not fun. The brittle, hacking, overheat mechanics are all neat ideas, but they all lose out to raw damage …

FTL + Slay the Spire. I love both of those, so I got quite excited when I discovered this one. Played a few runs and had a blast. I could definitely feel that the game is still in Early Access, but I still felt it was well balanced and challenging. Highly recommend, but I encourage those who buy this to join the discord and contribute to the discussion and development.

The game came out two years ago. It still crashes after combat. I have an i9 processor, 64 GB of RAM, and a 5070ti graphics card.

(As of patch #31) Really cool little gem showing a lot of promise! I love the visual style and the gameplay. As much as I liked Into the Breach, I feel like this game is a better spiritual successor to FTL. But it is an early access game, and it still needs a lot of polishing. Card descriptions need to be more consistent, bugs need to get iron out, especially bugs with card interactions. Then a lot more variety …

I quite enjoyed the game, its FTL with cards. You can get a good few days of enjoyment for just $20. Still being updated and a few different ships to unlock. Yea RNG can screw you but that's any roguelike? I enjoyed it and still jump back in from time to time with the updates.
Summarised from 34 of the 241 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 12, 2026. How summaries are made
73% of the 211 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Breachway. The complaint that keeps coming up: frequent crashes and performance issues. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game started out good, but it is _designed_ for you to lose over and over and over again. Everything will try your patience and annoy you. Will you find the equipment you need? Probably not. You will rarely ever be allowed to go backwards even though you desperately want to. You will be railroaded to your death, again and again. You've been warned!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Add me to the list of reluctant thumbs-downers. I'm on a big Rogue-lite kick currently, it's a genre that I really enjoy. I also really like 4x space games. I feel like the 4x flavoring in the game is solid, but the core R-L loop is (six hours in) not that much fun. Battles feel like a slog, mostly, and I don't feel much agency in the moment to moment, and the decisions I do make don't seem that impactful. There are two other Hooded Horse R-L Deck builders I adore, 9 Kings and Against the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →30 hours... and honestly It is SO fun and interesting about 25% of the time. I really Like this game and want to play it. So much differently good aspects with the cards and deck building. But 50% of this is just exhausting, fighting simple or tuff super repetitive battles. More often than not I run into a node that gives a huge Negative debuf for future battles. Some enemy ships hacks have no workaround , no counters especially if space stations don't offer security systems and subsystems.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is kind of incomplete. The basic loop is okay, your run of the mill STS clone. Becomes quite easy once you figure it out, bosses aren't that bossy or even different. Not okay parts: Story or even motivation is nonexistant. After beating the last boss i was told i didn't figure out some kind of signal, even though i went through all the marked nodes. There are 4 factions, no real difference to them, no real reason to favor one over another. Upgrades are badly implemented, before you get a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got it soon after launch - liked the design and mechanics and the vibes seemed great. The performance was terrible sometimes and the amount of bugs discouraged playing more. But this is early access, so expected more or less. One year later the lag spikes are still there and the amount of bugged stuff is staggering. Oh well. Curious what spaghetti codebase resulted in this - anything from wrong tooltips to straight up clicking left mouse button could be broken. Fascinating, but a "no" from me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, I only say NO for one reason The year and a half of access to this game and it still having game crashing bugs... I enjoy the gameplay, concept, and general aesthetic of this game This issues, of having to uninstall, reinstall, and still have points where the game will crash on initial loading, or right after you finish a fight and doesn't save the progress for it, is infuriating. The PROBLEM, is that this only popped up about 5 hours into playing I don't know if it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like deckbuilders, roguelikes, or roguelike deckbuilders, try Breachway!. I’ve been watching this game as I enjoy this genre, and it has spaceships! Anyway, there is a demo up now, and as suspected it is great on Deck! I use the Keyboard and Mouse Steam input template, but touchscreen kinda works better. Give it a whirl and see what you think! Title is a link right to the store page.
positive · AI labelView post →My 13 hours are across like 3 or 4 attempts to get into this game and I just can't. Combats over a run feel a bit too repetitive and mostly dragged out at the whims of card draw. A few core mechanics sound pretty cool - like cooldowns on cards and management across 3 mana types - but it's let down by some really poor tooltips that stop me from even realizing what's a bug and what's a poorly explained mechanic. When exactly are my missiles supposed to hit? Oh, that one turned out to be a bug.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has the possibility to be a lot of fun. But right now aside from the barebones loop, I can't see a way that this game has moved past it's early access grace period. It's incomplete, has a very small story, maybe a few paragraphs and that's it. The gameplay also needs some balancing and work, there are a lot of actions and card mechanics that do not work as they should. 2 years in Early Access and there should be a LOT more here. Not worth it do not spend money on this, even for 10…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that manages to make its core attraction - turn-based spaceship battles - come off as insanely boring and repetitive. The visual representation surves pretty much no purpose at all, it's simply not even the slightest bit interesting to look at, rendering the entire graphic display pointless. Maybe it could've been better if the spaceship design brought something new to the table, but - yeah NOPE, every spacefaring vessel's design is ultra generic. It would be ok if it were a game that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, Steam, for the purpose of reviewing a game, has either a "Thumbs Up" or a "Thumbs Down" score. I've chosen "thumbs down." There is no "shrug" score. If there were a "shrug" score, I would have chosen that instead. Breachway is fine. It's a little like FTL, but with its own thing. It's a little like Cobalt Core, but with its own thing. However, unlike either of those things, its own thing is *fine.* It's *fine.* It's not bad. It's not great. It's just *fine.* No complaints. Breachway is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very poorly balanced Act 3 boss, which debuffs you and you just lose unless you know what you're facing. poorly balanced upgrade system that punishes you for not knowing the mechanics beforehand. And even less enjoyable system of "everyone can do cool things but you". Resource micromanagement I can enjoy, but when you lose simply because you either brought the wrong deck or you lack knowledge of mechanics when in game explanation is lacking to the extreme, it just makes it feel tedious and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Breachway has a ton of potential. I love the theme, music, and gameplay. This negative review is less about the game and more about certain aspects of the game, which I hope the devs will make some changes with. Tutorial: I felt like the tutorial was a good intro, but didn't make it super clear about the fact the taking yellow paths used up a specific resource, while blue ones did not. When going through the tutorial, I thought that the resources were for each pip traveled to, regardless of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bottom line - not recommended because it wasn't fun, I refunded after slightly more than an hour of play time. Combat is extremely repetitive and to me it's rather boring and overly simplistic. Encounters that aren't combat related are very basic and repetitive as well, I only played one run to the first boss and I had the same encounter multiple times. Upgrading the ship is very basic and boring as is the resource management, nothing new or interesting, really. The cards that give you your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After a lot of struggling I finally finished my first run on Breachway. It is a tactical card-based starship combat game that you should check out if you are into anything space.
positive · AI labelView post →As of 07/2026 the game still ends after the second "level" ("without any new clues about the signal, your run ends here). About a year ago or so, they said they'd be working on the next map "right now" and would be done in a month. Considering that a map is mostly a bunch of more or less random encounters and that most weapons and ships already seem to be in the game, it sounded plausible. But since there is no progress to be seen, there's a good chance the game is abdoned. Either way, it not…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite multiple patches and tuning, this game is still no fun to play, and I tried, TRIED. I played FTL, I'm well aware of what a roguelike is. This game has no sense of scaling difficulty. 2 starting fuel is just a ♥♥♥♥ move. You can only get fuel from stations, which there are usually two, only one you'll actually be able to reach. The satisfaction is lost when you realize how little of the system you actually get to explore. The relation system has negligible effect on gameplay, dont…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The early fight cycle is so repetitive and boring that I don't want to play further. You can do maybe 4-8 damage a turn and enemies have ~50 health at the lowest level and play shields for up to 8 so everything just takes a really long time when the gameplay loop is kinda determined from the start. So, it's not like you make any interesting or tactical choices, but you still spend 15-30 minutes in a battle. Shoot enemy, shield self, shoot enemy to bring down their shields, shield self,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I once spent a few days sketching out what sort of video game I would make, if I ever did. More as an exercise for myself (a developer nowhere near the game industry) rather than an actual plan. At the end of it, I had a sci fi setting with a handful of roguelike and deckbuilder elements. Shortly after, I discovered Breachway, and it felt like someone had been reading my mind. I love that they have a proper demo, and now I’m really excited to see the game approach its release!
neutral · AI labelView post →I've had a lot of fun with the game so far. The fights are still a little too easy. Even with boss fights, I was never in danger of dying. But I'm also only three or four runs in (and you unlock the next difficulty level with each successful run). So I guess if I stick to it, the challenges will become greater. And there's still one ship and multiple different builds for me to explore. Well worth the money! Edit: And the devs are actively working on improving the game, which is unforuntately…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For now, 8/10: + Nice replayability. + Fun decks and gameplay. + Cool ship design. If later there is visual customization added that will be epic! + Great potential. - The expected poor balance from an early access game (for example, heat damage/builds are too OP. The any regular enemy with "Termal Tick" can destroy you, it needs a nerf). - Only 3 levels for now which is really short. It needs a procedural endless mode. - The UX/HUD is not nice to use, which can be tricky in a game based about…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall its a neat little game, obviously its still in early access so there's still kinks to work out and content to be added. But, as someone who loves roguelike/lites in general, it's not hard to please me. The devs are actively ironing out balancing and adding new content which is hopeful, because my only real complaints would be the lack of enemy variety and the number of playable ships/weapon variety. Also, the map is a bit lacking in terms of events and such, but that's already been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun at the start while discovering enemies and equipments but bosses require a planed build. Game is too random, random drops, random upgrades, random everything. Need to have a better balance in what can be planed for and what is random. Random is fun, makes runs feels different from one to other but this feels like playing monopoly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR; Keep it in your wish list to try it out later Game is currently unplayable for me. Any time I start a new game, whether windowed, fullscreen, either but with different resolutions, whatever ship and setup, it starts on the navigation map too zoomed in to click the first nav. point. I had started a run from the main menu and then quit without starting properly, but apparently that started a run. Might be a way to reproduce this bug, dev. I really enjoyed the first 2 runs I did on the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm Sorry. First and foremost, I did enjoy this game when it first launched for a little bit. It felt like FTL but wasn't, and the mechanics were interesting initially. Really didn't expect this one to keep updating, but it did and still is currently... Unfortunately I loaded it up for the first time in ages to check everything out and my GOD what a buggy mess it has truly become. I loaded up the game and went to the bathroom, but by the time i got back the game was crashing because it memory…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has improved vastly during early access. This game is different from other deck builders - each card has to cool down in the discard pile before it can be drawn again. It is possible to burn through all your cards in a few turns and then be unable to draw anything. So the player needs to add more cards to the deck. Other deck builders reward the player for making a small tight deck, but that is not always true in Breachway.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its got the bones for a really great rogelite space game. It just falls short on execution. Example : multiple damage types that have related debuffs, like flak and crack. However, try to do a flak build but stumble upon an upgrade missile pod after putting resources into a flak build, and boom flak looses out because the barely upgraded missile pod does slight more DPR. I have also run across a number of left click bugs that prevent the left click from being recognized. They resolve after a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An obvious mixture of other games from the genre done well. It has been time well spent even if I haven't played very far into the ascension levels. Looking forward to future updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can give this game some grace as it's in early access and is INCREDIBLY fun, with new things to customize since the last update. While I have played it almost since it began, the balancing as of now is HORRENDOUS. Its almost impossible to get past the first boss, and even if you do, the second boss is unbeatable in all my attempts that I even got past the first. As it stands right now, I wouldn't recommend the game as you will NEVER get the satisfaction of beating it, but if the balancing is…

neutral · AI labelView post →I really wasn't going to review this game, though I felt compelled to give a positive review to cancel out the negative review complaining about "no 'shrug' score" in Steam Reviews. There is a "Shrug score". It's called 'not leaving a review at all'. The game is in EA and you know this. Give it some time. The game is just fine. Interested in how this one develops.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is such a promising game but with so much unlocking needed before you get any success in the harder boss fights. It is like they couldn't decide on the difficulty level for their players and just front loaded it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fights are super slow and cards/parts dont syngergizze well, also there is way too many nodes on the map andn the directrion is not clear becusase of how they are spaced, factions are not different and dont matter. Story is not good either. Mid game, but I like the attempt at something original.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had a great run, encountered some bug and error and my save was destroyed, havn't crashed in any other game in ages, wouldn't waste money on this kind of garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lots of game freezes/locks, just got locked 3 hops from current final/3rd boss after spending 2+ hours building a godlike ship so have a negative review for wasting my time. An obvious engine/code bug when the freeze happens trying to continue the game between this super-rig and steam deck and both locking when trying to start the battle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Keep supporting this game, it's such a blast to play, and I'm hoping they'll continue to develop it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has really gotten good over the course of EA. It's also different enough from other rogue like deck builders to be interesting. The modules like weapons basically have their own decks that combine to form your hand. Great balance and new playstyles, just the right amount of mechanics, UI has _mostly_ improved although a few things aren't quite where they should be yet, like your health and shields, but it's much better. I'd really recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tutorial was promising, but after that the storytelling felt nonexistent, the combat become very repetitive and boring especially when most of the map nodes just turn out to be combat or combat in disguise. You'll have better time playing FTL for the 10th time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't normally buy pre-release games, but Breachway was exactly the kind of game I'd been looking for, so I thought I would risk buying it, and I'm glad I did! Gameplay so far is fun, with an extensive variety of play styles and equipment options. I'm finding it frighteningly addictive and replayable, and I look forward to seeing the game mature.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nice game, cool mechanics, but... optimisation is so bad. micro-freeze literally every turn
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don´t know what they did with the last update, but the game is unplayable at the moment and crashes constantly. it bricked my laptop for 30 minutes straight and made it run way hotter than some AAA Games have made it run.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great card game, the updates are frequent enough, and it hits a good vibe between STS and FTL.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has good core gameplay and is being improved actively. It does contain quite a few bugs, but the dev has been hard at work to resolve them.

positive · AI labelView post →I was sure I was going to like this game. Looks great, solid idea, but terrible execution, UI, and pacing make this a huge disappointment. All you had to do was more playtesting and design iterations, I'm sure you would have been able to fix the weaknesses and balance it properly. Instead, we get a terrible interface, slow and bizarre card cooldown mechanic, bad upgrades, annoying "command points", grindy combat with little strategy, uninteresting text walls, and lots of repetition.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starts off fun but gets repetitive quickly, like most of these types of games. This is exactly the type of game and UI that the Steam Deck and other handheld PC's are perfect for, so it's absolutely, utterly inexcusable that it has no controller support whatsoever, or UI scaling options.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall design is pretty unique and there are a lot of good ideas, but a lot of the encounters are just frustrating, unfun and long.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs have been regularly updating the game which is great because when I first started playing this i really struggled with making it past the first sector. But I just beat sector 3, everything seems pretty well balanced to me, the game does require you to use every system at your disposal, which I definitely have not done in the past, but when everything comes together it really feels like you are the captain of a Space ship. I do say space ship because I think that distinction is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very Fun and with lot's of depth. The combination of different equipment categorys (each with differnt subcategorys and cards) makes this a very fun game. I haven't (yet) beaten it either which makes me (a little) frustrated, but also glad that this game doesn't run into the same issue that many other roguelikes/roguelites run into where you just win every run. Winning should feel earned, and I'm already looking forward to gaining the game-knowledge needed to make that happen :D And…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an excellent deck builder. Every encounter is well designed and there's a great progression system to unlock. Very worth it and very well done. EDIT: I've had the chance to really get into this game some more and I have to say, i love every part of it. Excited for even more content but it's already my favorite deckbuilder right now. Get this game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a really solid deckbuilding roguelike. It's very in the vein of Slay the Spire meets FTL, inspired by the Expanse universe. Definitely fun and entertaining.
