Brideshead Revisited
Directed by Julian Jarrold
Befriended by aristocrat Sebastian Flyte, Oxford student Charles Ryder finds that the power and privilege experienced by the family is seductive. On a visit to the ancestral home, Brideshead, he falls in love with his friend's sister, Julia. However, as his ties to the Flytes deepen, Ryder finds himself at odds with their strong Roman Catholicism. From TMDB

neutral · AI labelView post →It’s just such a fucking masterpiece. It hits all the “ah, fuck, the closet KILLED people” notes of Brideshead Revisited and also is so caustically hillarious; a 10/10 movie (My best friend in high school’s dad owned it on VHS but would rebt it from Blockbuster/Netflix to save the tape’s lifespan)

neutral · AI labelView post →Late to this but the Brideshead Revisited movie is as bad as the book. Very authentic adaptation.
negative · AI labelView post →I just looked that up–since I hadn't heard of that movie. I only saw Stéphane Audran once—in the TV 80's version of Brideshead Revisited. She made a big impact in a few short scenes. Her character's pithy commentaries on the people around her dominated that whole section of the story. great actress.

neutral · AI labelView post →Damn. I really hate Cheetolini, but this? This is just so fucking classy I gotta tip my hat. Bravo. Like fucking Brideshead Revisited in a MAGA hat or a Merchant Ivory film come to life. Edith Wharton would shit herself trying to invent a character this classy.

positive · AI labelView post →Watched Brideshead Revisited for the 3rd time. No show or film ever made finer use of voiceover: combination of Irons’s voice, Waugh’s prose, patience in using lines for VO that most adaptors would consider unnecessary is quite exquisite: takes you right inside Ryder’s soul.
positive · AI labelView post →It's not exactly a subtle film. It makes Brideshead Revisited look nuanced.
