What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 283 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (35,829 of 42,429 positive).
Players love the game itself but say the PC port is broken and needs mods to run. [1][2][3] Many call it a classic and wish for a sequel. [4][5][6] Some find it works well on Steam Deck or Linux. [7][5][8]

One of the rockstars finest creations. Shame that the port is so garbage that this is unplayable. There should be laws written to make it illegal to sell product this badly optimized. This game crashes every 30 minutes and without autosave you will lose your progress. Most of the bugs are fixable with mods but it should not be die hard fans responsibility to fix their subpar product.

I graduated from high school back in 1978 and I got bullied a lot then, unfortunately I still have terrible dreams of those experiences. However, this game made me get over those experiences and it made me feel better about myself. Thank you Jimmy Hopkins.

I'm going to try my best and put into words how much this game means to me. I remember getting the canis canem edit for the ps2 second hand about a year before the scholarship version came out. Didn't really give too much of a thought back then about it. But once I got my hands on the Scholarship version for the xbox 360, Everything changed. This game for me goes down as one of the top 10 best games ever made …

this is my first time playing Bully and, god*amn, this game is fun. BUTT, a big one you need mods and fixes to be able to enjoy the game. The best mods to download if you want to just remaster the game are (mods can be found on NexusMods) 1- Reshade 2- Better Sounds 3- Silent Patch (edit frame rate to 60) 4- derpy script loader 5- Balls of Snow mission fix 6- Extended Draw Distance 7- No Blur No Fog 8- Bully …

The ultimate masterpiece, the one game I could play forever and forever. I wish there was a Bully 2. Also to fix the crash problem, open task manager and right click, go to details, then right click on Bully exe and set affinity, choose only 2 CPUs and it won't crash anymore.

Bully: Scholarship Edition sits at 71% positive across 367 opinionated reactions from 4 sources. Fresh or rotten — where do you land?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The PlayStation 2 version of Bully received "generally favorable" reviews, according to the review aggregator website Metacritic. Robert Ashley of 1Up.com found Bully to be a fresh approach to the open-world genre because it departed from the crime stories associated with Grand Theft Auto; Bullworth in particular was deemed to be more accessible than the sprawling world of San Andreas. GameTrailers praised the town's distinctive residents and changing seasons, and welcomed the shorter journeys between objectives. IGN's Jeremy Dunham however found the repeated travel between mission locations excessive, and criticized the slow opening chapter and occasional bugs that prevented missions from…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reminds me about how my favorite Rockstar game and world is Bully, because it’s so concentrated that you really gain a sense of comfort in it, and it constantly feels dense with people to see and things to do
positive · AI labelView post →Remember that time when Game Informer "leaked" Bully 2? Except, y'know, it was bull𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘵?
neutral · AI labelView post →LOL Consoles are too expensive, and this is the find out stage of their fuck around journey. Its not all that surprising, especially with the ending of physical games on Sony's part and Microsoft being generally shitty... They might not recover for a while. Bully for them!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I waited too long to play this game. apparently it sucks on windows, but on linux I have no problems or crashes what so ever. Highly enjoyable game, especially if you like gta, saints row and the likes. When on sale, one of the best three fiddy (eur) one can spend.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What the ♥♥♥♥ is wrong with this port? It crashes constantly, the audio is bitcrushed to hell and the first cutscene wouldn't even load. Rockstar is one of the largest game companies on the planet and they're entirely content selling a broken product. Any other platform would pull a game from the store if it was this non functional but somehow on steam it gets away with a Very Positive. It's disappointing to see one of their best games treated like this, and it shows complete disrespect to the…

neutral · AI labelView post →Certified hood classic. Need a patch to get it working on modern PCs so be wary of that before buying. Make sure you read a guide/watch a youtube video about patching this game for newer systems it's pretty simple.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best Rockstar game to date. To all the people complaining about crashes, literally look at the top guide and follow the instructions and it will work perfectly, it took like 2 minutes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played this game on ps2 and literally completed the whole game three times, bought it on pc cause i wanted to replay it and oh god is the pc porting insanely ♥♥♥♥. but thank god silentpatch saved us because this would be unplayable. and the game is so buggy idk for others but for me it is. would be a thumbs up review but gng the game is 20 years old no wonder why it isn't getting updated no more. (finished the game btw)

neutral · AI labelView post →You have to play with the silent patch mod to play this game nowadays due to it fixing the constant crashing on modern windows os but it pays off once you get it running. Easily the most creative rockstar game they have ever made

neutral · AI labelView post →Its a 32 bit game, so its crashing on 64 bit computers. Because Rockstar is lazy to do what people ask. So Jimmy Hopkins will throw a stink bomb on every Rockstar employee until they fix this problem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had really high hopes to enjoy this game like I did when i was young, but it crashed three times in the first 30 minutes i played it. No autosave, or a way to save from the menu is awful. Requested a refund unfortunately.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only problem with this game is the PC port. I believe it's memory issues conflicting with newer hardware, but there's a patch for this problem called SilentPatchBully. Before that it'd crash pretty often but runs smooth so far! As for the game, if you somehow haven't played it, it's a must play. Idk what it is about this game, maybe it's for nostalgia reasons, but I come back every year or couple months to replay the whole story. Great game and isn't anything like it. I'm not sure how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rockstar, please please PLEASE....fix this lost gem, this game still has a thriving community. i have windows 11 and even with the Silent Patch it still crashes. please don't let this game go to hell. i love this game and many other people do. come on its literally better to play this game on a Xbox 360 emulator than it is to play the steam version. it has no crashing better sound effects and more, so why can't the pc version do it?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →YandereDev just commented on my Bully video basically saying "if you want another game like bully, I recommend Yandere Simulator" Yeah buddy, I'm sure YOU would recommend that game.
positive · AI labelView post →This has always been one of my favorite games since it came out. I'm playing on Steam Deck OLED and it runs flawlessly. The atmosphere of the towns, especially during the holiday segments is great. I find myself just riding a bike around without doing any missions just to take it in. A game that needed a sequel for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The PC port Is a joke, Its 2026 and Rockstar cannot even be asked to keep their games running smoothly, crash free on modern OS. Windows Compatibility Mode set to XP SP2 + SilentPatch Crash 1 - Occurred a few hours In after starting a mission. Crash 2 - Changed custommemorymgr from 0 to 1, lasted 20mins before crashing again, at mission start "Carnival Date". Crash 3 - Changed custommemorymgr from 0 to 2, lasted 10mins before crashing again, at mission start "Carnival Date". I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was my GTA as a kid as I wasn't allowed to play them. Story is charming and gameplay is solid. 100% is fun and simple. The sequel to this needs to become a reality as its been rumoured for years, I know i'll be there day 1.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic game that will probably never get a sequel or a spinoff. A Certified Hood Classic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game on my Steam Deck and it worked great I’ve had no crashes. But on a regular pc the game keeps on crashing and is unplayable. So it’s better to play on the Steam Deck. Note: The game only runs at 30fps on the Steam Deck
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just emulate it. game is great but is completely left to rot by rockstar... cant save settings, resolution changes result in only seeing top left qtr of my game, sound settings dont do anything even at 0, and everyone in the game chats and quips constantly like its bugged via framerate like every old rockstar game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is THE GOAT, Rockstar is THE GOAT, Jimmy Hopkins is THE GOAT, if you play this game you are THE GOAT, if you don't you have unrealised GOAT potential. GOAT!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People mention silentpatch for a reason. Running the game without it is unplayable sadly. Game will crash for any little thing. After several crashes I tried ailentpatch and had no more crashes until I got to the Balls of Snow mission. Which apparently is pretty common glitch if you set the game to 60 FPS. Though once you switch down to 30, the mission works and can go back to 60 afterwards. Sucks that you have to jump through hoops to get the game to work right but I love this game still.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game on PS2 and put many hours into it back in the day, unfortunately this PC port is a broken mess. I cant play for more than 5 minutes without it crashing and I have no idea how to fix it. My PC isnt the most powerful machine in the world but I know it's way more powerful than my old PS2 so I'm stumped as to why it crashes so often. It is literally unplayable and there is zero support to try and fix this mess. Don't buy this version of the game unless you're into constant cbt.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes alot dont buy the game great game but crashes too much
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game keeps crashing every 15 minutes despite my many attempts to fix it (alternative settings, online advice, etc). As a result, I have never progressed further than the introduction. I am clearly not the only one, and I am shocked that not much has been done to address the issue (update, patch, etc). I had heard good things about the game itself (on other platforms I assume).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →REQUIRES A THIRD-PARTY PATCH! Don't let that discourage you. Bully isn't a bad game. It's simply a different experience from Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption. In many ways, it laid the groundwork for mechanics Rockstar would later expand on in future GTA titles. The game also features a surprisingly large variety of fun mini-games tied to school subjects like English, Math, Chemistry, Art, and Gym, which help give it its own identity. Yes, you'll likely need a community patch to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the game don't get me wrong but this game crashes constantly even with silent patch. I had to config the frame cap and other stuff to reduce the crashing to from every 20 mins to probably around 1 crash every 1-2 hours. The reason why I don't recommend it is because you are better emulating this game or playing it on console than the steam pc version. It is very annoying to have to constantly re-do missions mid game. I recommend the game but I don't recommend buying it here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DOES NOT WORK. EVEN INSTALLING MOD/SILENTPATCH THE GAME WILL NOT RUN. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Everything is fully up-to-date, all drivers, chipsets, even bios and settings. Following multiple guides with different things to install and set up (because you CANNOT install it and expect it to just work) NONE of these worked. Compatibility to older OS's does nothing, mods/slientpatch does nothing. Game refuses to load past main menu. Find this game on the high seas so you dont get robbed of your money…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sure I'm not the only one who only has down voted because of the port itself. The game can be great. The problem is the functionality. Too many bugs to run on a newer system to where it is not worth the trouble. If it got a full remaster for modern PC, then I'd buy it, day one. Not just for nostalgia reasons.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like a forgotten gem. It might be a small world compared to other R* tittles/GTA games, but it's packed with thing to do. It's basically a PG-13 GTA game, but still funny and entertaining, with fun minigames, good fighting system, customization, sound design, music and atmosphere. Instead of another Red Dead Redemption game after GTA VI, they should restart work on another Bully game. TLDR: This game is really good.
