What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 175 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (2,789 of 3,556 positive).
Many players say the game captures the classic Carmageddon spirit but needs mods to be enjoyable. [1][2][3] Some reviewers report the game is unplayable on AMD GPUs due to graphical glitches and crashes. [4][5][6] Several players complain about poor driving physics and frustrating difficulty in later stages. [3][7][8]

The vanilla experience is solid and with the Overhaul mod by STShotgun it's my favorite entry in the series. You might be asking yourself why is this a negative review? The game is completely borked for AMD GPUs. Without DXVK installed, half the NPCs are giant vertex explosions that clog up the entire screen. With DXVK installed, you're forced to disable graphics setting like the car shadows and reflections and even …

Don't buy Rogue Shift. It's not Carmageddon, it's a $70 version of the free-to-play game Crossout. Buy this instead. All the classic characters. All the classic modes. All the classic mayhem.

ITS A REALLY FUN GAME ............ IF MODDED Ive been a big fan of the franchise, in its currect state its quite the dissapointment compared to its predcessors. Its a step up in terms of lighting car detail, destruction and all the modern hardware related stuf, sady on the software side, game mechanics wise, the driving is sadly awful, its adds another level of anoying difficulty. The cars drive like they are on ice …

Imagine Carmageddon 1 but done worse in every possible way. The music and half the levels are straight from Carma1. The driving is awful and unresponsive... this didn't deter me from doing 100% achievements, but it was a major annoyance for sure. The graphics look fine, but I prefer the OG Carma 1 vibes. The game got patched and didn't crash even once. It's an okay game, but not as good as Carma 1-2. If the driving …

Great game but you should absolutely get the C:MD Overhaul patch at cwaboard and play with the experimental patch they released, by right click on the game in your Steam library, going to properties, clicking on the Betas tab and entering VmfPZyCgXec4v2R4 into the code box.
Summarised from 34 of the 286 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 10, 2026. How summaries are made
71% of the 175 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Carmageddon: Max Damage. The complaint that keeps coming up: unplayable on AMD GPUs without workarounds. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Carmageddon 64 was the last port released of Carmageddon 2 (originally on PC) and is one of the few games that gives Superman 64 a run for its "worst game" money in the eye of critics.....IGN gave it a 1.3 and N64 Mag awarded it 8%!

positive · AI labelView post →Today, I discovered that you can kill creatures with high speed rover impact in Satisfactory 1.0. You can then turn their remains into biomass using the rover’s workbench. What I’m getting at here is that my game turned into Carmageddon for a while and my rover is powered by roadkill.

So i wanted to install them on my little Dell Optiplex with an 6th gen i5 and 32gb of ram with integrated intel graphics 730. You can get any game you want through Archive.org or myabandonware. If you have the .ISO image, just mount it via Image Disk Mounter and use the “i have a windows executable i want to install” through lutris.…
neutral · AI labelView post →Carmageddon - Kill, waste, win.. This game was on everybody's naughty list. And that's why everyone wanted to play it. It's not the best racing game, with floaty handling, and moon inspired physics, but it was amazing with it's localized damage model, and the option to win a race not by racing fast, but destroying your opponents or even killing every pedestrian on the map (but who had the time and/or patience for that?) If you had A Voodoo card this game would look even better, with full 3D…
neutral · AI labelView post →Can someone correct me on this? I feel like there was only ever one GOOD Carmageddon game? The PC original? Every subsequent sequel, port, and reboot has been divisive, or like, the worst thing ever. Is that accurate? I remember playing some reboot on PC from a few years ago, and it was a trashfire.
negative · AI labelView post →My ancient joke art. ig the joke has not landed that well cuz 1. Only boomers remember wtf Carmageddon game is and know its cover 2. Only dedicated people know about the fact that #Amyrose had a circular blade in #Sonic R beta version It's as if I recut Sonic X ghost episode into an Evil Dead movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →you can really tell Carmageddon (1997) is a game made by British developers in the 90s because of how it randomly does things to arbitrarily annoy the player for the developer's amusement

neutral · AI labelView post →Never liked driving games. Never liked first person shooters. But Carmageddon is near and dear to my heart. I taught my sister, who was 8 at the time, to play. It was the first game we ever shared and she was SO much better than me. Also, bitchin' Fear Factory soundtrack.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never liked Carmageddon so the license does nothing for me, I just want something new in this space of racing game so idk. I'll put a bit more time into it but for a thing that's full price in my territory, it feels pretty light on... 'oomph'? I don't know how else to put it.
negative · AI labelView post →How to make this game actually good 1. Follow this guide, in full - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3140265434 2. ??? 3. Profit. It is as dumb as it looks like, but it is fun, especially if you've played Carma 1/2 when they were released. Installing a mod above is a must-have.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In yesterday's stream the surprise was Truck-kun is supporting me from another world?! a game that feels like a good Wiiware game. A combo of Katamari/Crazy Taxi/Carmageddon that seems great fun in short bursts. And of course who else could it be if not Xalavier and @strangescaffold.bsky.social
neutral · AI labelView post →EXCUSE ME WHAT - New Carmageddon game - It's has roguelike bits and that sounds pretty cool tbh YES PLEASE. Can't tell you how much time I spent on Carmageddon 1 back in the day. Just an absolutely joyful piece of art. Fingers crossed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rN6...
positive · AI labelView post →It's actually funny, I could never play Fallout & Fallout 2 as an evil character because it made me feel bad. At the same time, I'd fire up Carmageddon & Carmageddon 2 and just mow down everything that walked or drove with utter glee. I'm sure there's a psychological explanation for this dichotomy, but I sure don't know what it is, and I'm in no mood to make guesses.
positive · AI labelView post →Found this unidentified hacker music that unlocked something in my brain but I can't pinpoint where it's from. It gives off Tribes? Duke Nukem? Carmageddon? but not any that I remember. I probably ripped that off a CD for a PC or PS1 game that wouldn't run on my PC back in ... 2002-ish?
neutral · AI labelView post →You have just entered the race of your life... by taking those of many others in brutal vehicular combat! You can now play "Carmageddon" for the PlayStation with achievements over at RetroAchievements. retroachievements.org/game/13895
neutral · AI labelView post →Can't recommend for AMD users, the game is completly unplayable without tinkering with DXVK and even then the game crash when I try to start a race. I'm super disappointed that nothing is done to patch this issue :/

neutral · AI labelView post →It’s honestly heartbreaking for me to write this review. I was deeply invested in this game because Carmageddon 97 was one of my biggest escapes during childhood—not only introducing me a darker/dystopic world in the first hand, but also shaping my musical taste by introducing me to metal and its subgenres. Despite my strong positive bias toward Carmageddon: Max Damage, it still ended in a refund. Even after applying the experimental patch and the Overhaul mod, the game crashed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's an old game called Carmageddon where you could wreck people and other cars pretty well without interrupting.
neutral · AI labelView post →Fun for the first several hours. Once you get to the harder stages, the difficulty gets to be obnoxious. You rely on a select few powerups, while the rest are completely useless. The farther you get, the more similar your car gets to paper mache where even a simple t-bone is enough to kill you whereas a full fledged anvil just bounces off your opponents. I retry this every other year or so and each time I find myself feeling frustrated, so I can't recommend it.

neutral · AI labelView post →In 1998, Italian deputy prosecutor Raffaele Guarinello confiscated copies of Grand Theft Auto for "inspiring kids to commit crimes". He did the same a year prior with Carmageddon. Among how "real the game feels", in the article they also mention a "seal of quality so that games can be sold to kids".
neutral · AI labelView post →Now I know only Nobby could handle Carma series. I've just seen Carmageddon: Rogue Shift and I know - Carma series is gone....Thank you, Nobby for all you've done for us. Thank you for my happy childhood. Now it's fked by devs who's making that abomination. Looks worse then TDR.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same, plus Carmageddon. I'm actually a pretty decent driver with very few Hit&Runs. Both games had age requirements upon release, but where I live there was no legal framework of enforcement so anyone could buy any game until mid 2000-s or thereabouts
neutral · AI labelView post →An actual good f-ing remake!!! True to the original with all the QoL changes you need to feel like when you played the original. Only one thing is worse, the dragster (my favorite from the originals) is borderline unusable because the terrain has actual physical bumps, unlike the original that was perfectly flat. So driving in a straight line with it is much harder.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic example of a good concept executed poorly. The 1997 original is still king. Pros: + Variety. There is a good amount of cars to compete against and collect, a good number of tracks to race on and a good amount of game modes (i.e. rules) for said tracks = The graphics aren't too good but decent enough for their time = The soundtrack is good, too bad you can barely hear and actually enjoy it (see point below) Cons: - You're never 100% in control. Cars do feel weighty, yet all the…

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a different Carmageddon in comparison to the first three games. The first game did not have missions, the second and third game did - at the end of a couple of what this game would call 'Classic Carma' events and you'd need to finish them in order to progress to the next set of levels. In this game, you get one classic carma race and then three to five missions. Or well, events. They range from a race to random checkpoints, a race to splatter random pets, a death match where you…

neutral · AI labelView post →Each time I question a simple game like Carmageddon being as high in my ranking as it is, I play it again and forget everything around me exploring levels, running over pedestrians, doing crazy stunts, getting all power-ups I can and waste my opponents. It really is a great game.
