What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 171 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (5,542 of 6,538 positive).
Players are divided on Lords of Shadow 2, with many praising its combat and atmosphere while criticizing its stealth sections. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find it a flawed masterpiece that improves on the first game in several ways. [4][3][5] Others consider it a disappointing sequel that fails to capture the magic of its predecessor. [6][7][8]

This game was a serious step down from the impressive foray into Castlevania of the original game. The game itself isn't terrible and the same hack and slash combat that made the first Lords of Shadow enjoyable exists here and may even have arguably been improved. The visuals remain impressive in places and the sound is decent but the design and story choices are baffling. The content verges on parody in places and …

I have a lot to say about this game. This game is hated upon Castlevania fans. The major reason for it are because of the stealth section. While i agree they mess up the pacing of the game.. Are not that bad nor that difficult to deal with. I actually think this game is very rich lore-wise and content wise considering. This take place after Mirror Of Fate which the events are explained again at the beginning of the …

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is an underrated gem that aged far better than its reputation. This is not classic Castlevania it’s a dark, cinematic action game about a weakened Dracula reclaiming his power. The tone is melancholic and mature, and it works. The gothic castle sections are excellent, full of atmosphere, strong art direction, and an unforgettable soundtrack. Combat is deeper than many reviews claim, …

Lords of Shadow 2 is a massive improvement over the first game in almost every regard. The combat feels better, the environments are more interesting, and the game generally does a much better job of keeping things varied. I also really appreciate how completely insane the story and set pieces can get. It constantly throws increasingly ridiculous situations at you, and while it can be a bit much, I found that side …

This is a Flawed Masterpiece of the Action genre The game improves in many aspects from its predecessor while other mechanics seem to have been abbandoned or downgraded, I personally love the direction of the light/Dark magic system evolving into the magic Sword and gountlets and much more importantly they fixed the camera. The game now is much more fast paced because they removed most of the puzzles and travessing …
Summarised from 34 of the 504 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
73% of the 171 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. The complaint that keeps coming up: stealth sections are poorly designed and break pacing. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received generally mixed reception from critics, review aggregation website Metacritic scored the game 58/100, 63/100 and 70/100 across the three platforms. Play was full of praise for the combat, describing it as "simply awesome" and "[an] impressive, flowing combat system". Play commented how the skill progression system forced players to vary their attacks, a mechanic that GameSpot felt "delays your effectiveness in battle somewhat", but "[opened] the game up to different types of combat strategies." The bosses in the game drew particular attention from multiple reviews; GameSpot described these "grotesque monstrosities" as "bringing to mind some of the best designs from film…
