Clock Tower: Rewind
Developer WayForward, Limited Run Games
Clock Tower is a point-and-click survival horror video game developed and published by Human Entertainment for the Super Famicom in 1995. It is the first installment in the Clock Tower series. The story follows orphan Jennifer Simpson soon after she is adopted by the Barrows family along with other orphaned girls. Shortly after arriving at the Barrows family manor, one of the other children is killed by a stalker… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 188 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (449 of 508 positive).
Some reviewers complain about intrusive achievement notifications that spoil scares. [1][2][3] Several players recommend buying on sale due to dated mechanics and high price. [4][5][6]

This game is great to go back to, but I am giving a negative review because there are RIDICULOUS "you unlocked a cutscene" notifications that come up during major events, cover the ENTIRE screen, and take like 10 seconds to go away. This is such an insanely bad design choice. For the first playthrough it will literally be covering your screen during some of the most intense and important moments in the game. The …

Seeing Clock Tower, the mother of the survival horror, receiving its well deserved comeback, gives me the faintest ray of hope that Haunting Ground/Demento will be re-released one day. cries in copium

This is actually a positive review, but the Steam version has a glaring issue: Every time you get an achievement, there is a full-screen, cannot be dismissed overlay that covers the entire game. That means that instead of getting to see the antagonist's entrance scene, I got to see a giant notification while I heard something happening in the background, and then I was dead. This is a terrible way to experience the …

Clock Tower is easily one of best and most unique horror games ever made. It came out on the Super Nintendo in the early 90s, and was only available in Japan. The man responsible for this game was a big fan of italian horror flicks - the 1977 movie Suspiria & other giallo (thriller / horror) films of that time were big inspirations, and it really does show off in its atmosphere. In my opinion, it is one of those …

Get it on sale. I had... some fun with this game. I at the very least liked it enough to get about 75% of the endings. However, with a game this old, and being in the genre it is, I can't recommend it at full price. There are issues both technical and in the games design that could have been hammered out in this re-release. - The cursor moves too fast and there is no way to adjust the sensitivity. - Gallery unlock …

Players who liked Clock Tower: Rewind talk about great horror atmosphere and tension; those who didn't talk about intrusive full-screen achievement notifications ruin scares. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
For the Super Famicom release, the four reviewers of Famitsu commented on the game's difficulty and how scary it was. Hirokazu Hamamura wrote that the transition from silence to a sudden event would get the players heart racing/ while another reviewer said that the game is so scary it will make players weep. Three reviewers commented on the difficulty, saying the slightest mistake will lead to a game over. One reviewer recommended to play with a walkthrough, while another said that was just the nature of adventure games. The publication later compared the PlayStation version to Clock Tower 2 (1996). One reviewer found it superior to the sequel in terms of horror while one said the sequel…

Without it, I wouldn't have taken an interest in other horror series or even speedrunning. Knowing how many people associate me with this series makes me so happy 💙

neutral · AI labelView post →Bad port to be honest. All the budget went to that nifty animated opening. Im gonna make it quick: -Extremely intrusive "you unlocked a cutscene" message that cover the entire screen, and doesnt even pause the game so you are missing on whats being shown. -Removal of autosaves from the original game in favor of manual saves for wathever reason -A rewind feature that would had been pointless if autisaves still existed -Theres no explanation whatsoever on what Rewind Mode changes other than…

neutral · AI labelView post →Love the aesthetic and horror feel to the game; however, there are two major issues. The first being the controls still retain the 90's jank so screen and character movement drags on. It feels like you are moving at a snail's pace, and trying to click where you need to go can often times have you move in a way you did not want to move. You can rewind (no auto-saves), and dying means you need to rewind or load the game from a manual save. The worst offender though is the full screen pop-ups…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This version has obtrusive gallery unlock screens that weren't in the original, no option to turn them off ruining any tension. Who thought it was a good idea to have one in the first chase????

I do hope it does well though, so we can eventually get a port of the second game (the real second game, not that crap Ghost Head lol)

negative · AI labelView post →This isn't a remaster. This isn't even a PC port. This is an emulator with a launcher, so that original slowdowns are still here. There are several minute changes within the game itself, but it's the same clunky controls and interface, trial & error gameplay, and the new Rewind feature is way too short to be of value in most instances when it should have been useful. They didn't even bother adding a mouse sensitivity option, or an audio volume slider. At least the new theme song and anime…

neutral · AI labelView post →A pretty sad port its missing a lot of basic features that a lot of games and ports have had for years such as basic audio and volume options and the ability to change cursor sensitivity. not to mention the slow down and lag i have encountered that were not in the original release or in any emulated version I would say wait for a Hefty discount or for them to fix some of the problems above.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish there was a "maybe" option rather than yes or no to "would you recommend this game?" The answer is that it really depends on how many "old game" issues you are willing to overlook to get at the heart of the game that's inside Clock Tower Rewind. The idea for a game that Clock Tower is trying to execute is actually really solid. On top of that, Scissorman is actually capable of being quite a fearsome villain. Unfortunately, he turned out to be more of an annoyance for me than a builder…

For starters, when the camera moves around, certain objects, such as the staircase start wiggling, spoiling their importance. Whoever drew the art in the motion comics is an amazing horror artist, and I should look up…
