What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 238 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (8,701 of 9,175 positive).
Players praise the game's minimalist design and intuitive puzzles. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the puzzles too easy or the game too short. [4][5][6] A few players criticize the boss fights as frustrating or unnecessary. [7][8][9]

While it's very pretty, and the alien landscapes and bio-technology are extremely cool, the game just isn't that fun to play. The really original puzzle mechanic of dipping in and out of "worlds", while holding *other* worlds on your back, is great. Sadly, most of the puzzles in the game aren't like that, they're just fairly basic lock-and-key, moving-platform, hold-down-the-pressure-plate stuff that's been seen in …

Jeppe Carlsen, if he designs a game I am buying it. LIMBO, INSIDE, COCOON... This guy just understands pure design. One button and a joystick, and a truly remarkable game. A masterpiece. No instructions, no text, just environment, movement, and music. Sometimes less is more, and Jeppe you get it man. Thank you for this experience.

I genuinely think COCOON is the best puzzle game of all time. The concept alone is absolutely insane, but what makes it so impressive is how perfectly it's executed. The idea of worlds existing inside other worlds could have easily become confusing or gimmicky, yet the game constantly finds clever ways to build puzzles around it without ever feeling overwhelming. The puzzles are incredibly satisfying to figure out, …

Very important warning for players who aren't good at fighting bosses: There are bosses in this game and the checkpoints between boss battle phases are absurdly few, so if you're like me who only bought the game for the puzzles and do not give a single s--t about fighting and have very poor fighting expertise and experience, don't buy this game. The puzzles are very good though, what a shame

Cool little puzzle game that is quite pleasant to look at. Some of the puzzles have that playing-Portal-for-the-first-time wow-factor in them, especially near the end. Unfortunately, that is basically all that I can say about it. Devs went into that indie game vague storytelling so hard that it's basically impossible to actually care. We are doing god knows what god knows where and for god knows what reason. Not …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Cocoon received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic. 98% of critics recommend the game on OpenCritic. Hana Kim of IGN praised the design of the puzzles, writing, "seeing how each piece of the puzzle interacts with others and figuring out the layers between them is some of the most mesmerizing and engaging stuff I've seen in a while". Eurogamer's Christian Donlan enjoyed the art direction of Cocoon, feeling that it captured the alien nature of the setting, "you're exploring worlds that are both gloopy and organic, filled with heavily vesseled tumours and sacs and twitching mandibles". Rachel Watts of GamesRadar+ liked how the game placed the player into a…

neutral · AI labelView post →I finished Cocoon yesterday. What a great game. Simple commands, lots of mind-bending "inception" like puzzles. The beautiful art direction reminded me of Monument Valley, the game got inspiration from Journey as well. If you are looking for a nice short game to work out your brain, go for it.

neutral · AI labelView post →Jade Cocoon was out 27 years ago (in 1998). A monster-taming game with more "organic" visuals (thanks to art direction from Ghibli artist Katsuya Kondo giving it a Pokémon meets Princess Mononoke vibe). The series sits betwixt forgotten & hidden gem nowadays. Review: www.rpgfan.com/game/jade-co...

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is very mediocre. It's one of those games that I would give a 'meh' rating instead of good or bad and it really just sits on a 5/10. Eventually I lean towards not recommended because it does not keep me engaged. Good things: - To each their own, the visuals could be pretty. It's certainly quite polished. I don't like the art style at all and some design choices are confusing, but it's a personal choice instead of game being bad quality. - The movements are smooth and solid. -…

A couple of the later puzzles had my brain hurting, but it felt great to work them out. The fact it’s played with a single button, with so much depth, is impressive.

The first was a bit clunky and those low poly models didn’t help. 2 also improved/streamlined a lot. I’ve got the art book for the series because the art and character designs are just so damn charming.

positive · AI labelView post →Cocoon is a majestic puzzle game by the Ex-Devs of Limbo and Inside. And you can totally see that DNA throughout the game. With its wonderful sci-fi minimalist art style, the experience will have you fully focused on solving rewarding puzzles, that are about easy to average difficulty I would say, but very satisfying nevertheless. I 100% the achievements in about 4.5-5 hours or so, which is short, but I think that for this type of game 5h is just right. It packs every minute with great…

positive · AI labelView post →Cocoon is a game gone too soon, which is a good and a bad thing. It’s great because it looks great, sounds great, and its core puzzle mechanics are easy to grasp and start puzzling with, but the length also makes for a lack of depth, where I never got stuck or even stumped much by any puzzle. All the puzzles were polished and felt like they were leading up to a final, grander, high difficulty puzzle level, but sadly felt like they missed the mark on it. I still think it’s a great game for a…

positive · AI labelView post →Cocoon may be one of the best and most interesting spatial puzzle games I have ever played. The art is gorgeous, the music is fantastic, and it is actually difficult in some ways. It also does something I feel is quite commendable. It actually evokes the surrealism of an alien world. Nothing is so abstract that it isn't recognizable of technology (I.E. H.R. Geiger) but it is still not grounded enough to have a recognizable purpose from our perception. It really succeeds in giving off the…
