60 of 70 · most liked firstI owned this game previously and added it to Steam. Combat Mission has one of the worst engines ever devised. It's truly awful in ways I struggle to describe - it's very obviously a 3rd-party hackjob from the early 2000s (or perhaps even earlier!) which predates middleware engines. The camera doesn't move so much as lurch. On larger, battalion-sized maps, even with modern graphics cards, Combat Mission cannot get higher than around 40 frames per second, which suggests there is some issue with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Blitzkrieg is a superb entry into the Combat Mission series. However the buyer must take into account the age of the engine and price when purchasing the game. Overall I found this to be a highly immersive and enjoyable war game with hours of content. Conduct realistic advances to contact minus NCOs whisper yelling at Privates to 'Stop looking at your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ feet' and 'get in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ line, Ross!' Watch as squads, platoons and companies evaporate into buildings in urban combat with poorly dressed teenagers, shrug, smile politely at the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Something I respect about Combat Mission is that as a series, its motto has always been "okay we'll make a game but we refuse to make it fun"
negative · AI labelView post →I have enjoyed the combat mission games over the years but i just picked this up in the Steam sale and they had removed a lot of the missions so that i had basically got a hollowed out game. I was so pissed off that this is the first game i have ever refunded on steam.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend all Combat Mission games, since they fill perfectly their niche in the military simulation universe. I now own all titles and most DLCs from the year 2000 onwards, with the sole exception of Cold War. Sadly full fluidity of gameplay and UI has decreased over time due to some technical outdatedness, more so with bigger, battalion sized battles. Still the game is playable. If you think your dedicated GPU is not being used by Win11 for Combat Mission, try: Windows…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't played They Are Billions probably since the podcast we did on it, but this comfort game sweet spot is where Civilization and Dungeon Crawl and Classic Combat Mission sit for me. Something I do for 40 minutes to help time pass pleasantly. I have so many new games to play. I just...don't.
neutral · AI labelView post →One of the most realistic WW2 squad level game out there
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: all "Combat Mission" titles are basically the same, just featuring different times and campaigns of WW2 or the modern era, so this applies to all of them. This game is hardcore. I am a military history nerd for 30 years and I know no other simulator that shows WW2 combat as realistic as this... Next to "Garviteam Tactics". They are so different that they complement each other, not compete against each other. You need to know real military combat tactics to prevail, nothing less.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wow, everything is bad. Graphics are so bad. like 2002 Close Combat bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't think I would like this game as much as the others because of its small scope of focus in a specific corner and era of WW2. At least with Fortress Italy you had a pretty huge diversity of maps and units... But this one is surprisingly strong! It's absolutely worth it, and it provides a late-war level of tech and engagement type that the others do not. The pricing of these games is a bit comedic, so unless you're *really* into the franchise already then I can understand not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good, lots of very different battles with a massive Selection of units. My favourite of the CM games by far
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"No I want a game that is ACCURATE and REALISTIC" says a person who would never touch the Combat Mission series with a ten foot pole
neutral · AI labelView post →I can not move units together 5 or 6 tanks at a time I have to move them 1 piece at a time and I get higher caseulties
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you understand the depth of game mechanics then you will understand the price tag isn't so bad after all. niche is the word to describe the whole price tag outrage. Love combat mission <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent simulation of tactical combat. Love the detail and the surprises during the game and the historical accuracy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They really got the nerve to publish this? The resolution is maxed at 1280x1024 and the interface is so sluggish it's unplayable. I find no words for this mess. The pricing is ridiculous. Bought this via reseller, paid 5 EUs. And still that's too much for a game you actually can't play. edit: Fanatical refunded me. Really appreciated!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i would not say its worth £50, only get it if you like simulation games and its overpriced for what you get. The UI and integration etc is pretty dated and i think its technically a old game, that's just had its engine updated over the years. (UI hasn't been, nor has some other features) i did not buy it off steam at this price, i got it in a bundle. Also you need to go to third party sites to get multiplayer games, the mod support is kind of hit and miss, battlefront got brought out…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've had to play this for one of my university classes. Though it is historically accurate, and I see the value in the game, the game mechanics are of the worst I've ever played. I would not recommend this game to anyone.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games ever made and possibly the best war simulator ever. Advanced Squad Leader on the PC. All of the Combat Mission games are great! Now, if you like AAA games you should look elsewhere, this is a detailed squad level simulator of real combat with outdated graphics and a clunky interface (but you do get used to it) but once you are in the game you wont even notice those "bad" graphics or the old UI. Seeing a potato masher dropping from the second floor onto your assault troops…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clunky and old, but nothing much else quite like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Mission is a military wargame digitised and with the capability for head to head play across the world. Final Blitzkrieg is set about the Battle of the Bulge and the last days of the Third Reich. You get access to Tiger IIs, Panthers, Sturmtigers, Pershings, Jumbo Shermans, Comets, Cromwells, Sherman Fireflys, Air Strikes, and Artillery. The go-to game mode is 2 players in a head-on PvP game that has simultaneous turns that last a minute at a time. (you plan your turn, he plans his…

neutral · AI labelView post →Combat Mission: Battle for the Last Blitzkrieg – Tactical Brilliance on the Western Front Combat Mission: Battle for the Last Blitzkrieg captures one of World War II’s most dramatic moments — the Battle of the Bulge — with unmatched authenticity and tactical depth. Battlefront’s legendary engine once again shines here, delivering a battlefield simulation that’s as challenging as it is rewarding. Set during the harsh winter of 1944–45, Last Blitzkrieg puts players in command of American…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's a good game, only let down is the performance is very poor on larger battles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe I got swindled into paying $80 for this game and it's expansion. Alot of authoritative sounding people on the internet hype this game up, how advanced the ballistic simulations are, that each individual molecule of a piece of face hardened steel is recreated an infinite number of times per second for each tank on the battlefield, of which there will be hundreds in a single battle, billions of molecules being displaced in a single rifle round penetrating an anatomically correct…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg is a deeply immersive and demanding tactical wargame developed by Battlefront and published by Matrix Games that focuses on the final, brutal phase of World War II in Western Europe. Set during the winter of 1944–1945, the game centers on the Battle of the Bulge and the Allied advance into Germany, a period marked by desperate offensives, harsh weather, and some of the most intense fighting of the war. Rather than presenting this history as a series of dramatic…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, very realistic. Unlike a lot of modern games. No balancing BS, just an authentic experience. Can be frustrating when you repeatedly see units fail to do very basic things, but that's part of the realism in itself.

While not real-time per se (it's WEGO with turn resolutions in real time), their marketing made a lot of how it gets you to stop thinking about game mechanics and
positive · AI labelView post →It does not execute, absurdly, in my computer which however runs other Combat Mission games without problems
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just another great addition to the lineup of war games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I cared about "predictable degradation", I wouldn't be playing Combat Mission, Flashpoint Campaigns, or Dominions. Those same """wildly swingy""" results appear in any game with vehicle damage tables because *fun* things happen when vehicles are breached.
positive · AI labelView post →Had a lot of fun with all the combat mission games. I stopped playing for a while then redownloaded all the games but now they crash consistently after 3 to 4 minutes no matter what I'm doing, in game, title screen, deployment phase etc. Everything is exactly the same as when I played last, same PC, same games, no updates. I am at a loss... don't waste your money.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing Combat Mission Games since 2003, and Final Blitzkrieg closes the chapter for the Allies in the West. Its a great addition to the Normandy series and the player will experience a very unique TOE for the Germans and minor changes to Allied units. The Allies now have somewhat better tanks than they did in Normandy as far as the US with more 76mm, Assault 105mm tanks and the Brits with Comet Tanks etc. In Downfall the Germans are desperate throwing everything they can muster…

But yeah this game is incredible and while I’m still a novice in the series it’s my fav Ace Combat. Mission variety and design is awesome, I love the Joker Squadron and the OST is immaculate: youtu.be/WKFKGZaWFsw?...
neutral · AI labelView post →7. Combat Mission II: Barbarossa to Berlin Speaking of that, this was one of those perfect games for a burgeoning history nerd. The Combat Mission series made a lot of its design approach to stopping the player from thinking in game terms, and just doing things based on what a real commander would.
positive · AI labelView post →I'm just going to say it quick. None of these games are worth 60 dollars. Not to mention how absurd DLC prices are. I would recommend getting these games, but please use a secondary site to buy steam keys. I got every main game for each of them costing less than 10 dollars. Some less than 5. For that price, these games are very good, but do not spend full price for any of these games. If you don't know where to get this game for a fair price. I use Eneba.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the purest distillation of strategy you can get anywhere but that is a STEEP price for a simulator from the 2000s

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i need to talk to someone with a more familiar with fire and maneuver tactics about how the MENACE's mechanics seem to do a good job of enabling and rewarding their use. last turn-based strategy I played that put suppression into such prominence is probably Combat Mission from the 90s(?). game good.
