What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 68 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (63 of 109 positive).
Players praise the charming Wind Waker-inspired art style and world. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note the game suffers from clunky combat and bugs. [1][3][4]

Tutorial goes on forever, combat is clunky, crafting feels wrong, and physics feel wrong at time. But hey, the creator sure does have heart. I feel like he can learn from this game, what works and doesn't, and make a better one.

If you take Wind Waker and remove everything that made it great, you've got Cornerstone. It's an interesting mix of wasted potential, bugs and blandness. That's not to say it's a terrible game, but it is a very mediocre and uninteresting game. Definitely one for the bargain bin.

Cornerstone is a charming indie love letter to classic games like Zelda Windwaker. It's a little rough around the edges with poor combat but the physics based puzzles, exporation and crafting make up for the games faults. It has a beautiful art design with some humourous dialogue. https://youtu.be/oWc3SCT65gM

Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim is an adventure game with a similar art style and environment as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. You play as a young Viking boy going from island to island searching for the men of his village. I really enjoyed playing this game despite its bugs and the very basic combat. I loved the Wind Waker art style, so to me this game was pure eye candy. The performance is very impressive. I do …

Cornerstone was really a mixed bag for me. I'll start with the bad. I had to refund the game after 2.5 hours or so because I came across 2 game-breaking bugs that stopped me from progressing, coupled with a few bugged quests/objectives. That coupled with a fairly clunky and awkward combat system, meant I needed a refund. However, I think my experience with those bugs weren't the norm. So the positive: it's a cute, …

60 of 85 · most liked firstTarget Audience: Those who like getting lost....and have a high frustration tolerance. Summary: The kickstarter described a game that was Wind Waker Meets Dark Souls. And here's where you realize that having a small indie game compared to 2 big franchises is a bad idea, because the game is neither of those games, and has a bunch of problems out of the gate that it never recovers from. The writing is very hit and miss, and the misses whiff hard, as breaks in the story progression and…

I pre-ordered it through Humble Bundle weeks before it actually came out, so it's fair to say that I was really anticipating this game. It's similar to games like The Last Tinker: City of Colors, and I enjoyed that one on PC before adding the steam version to my collection. The graphics are excellent, and the detail in the characters, including facial expressions, is really a showcase of the developer's talent. Parents can also be…

neutral · AI labelView post →Four hours in so far and I'm really anjoying my time with Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim. As advertised, it has a similar artstyle to Zelda The Wind Waker, which I find quite charming. I don't really think there is much resemblance to Darksouls to be found here frankly: There is a checkpoint-system, which one might argue is similar to the Darksouls-bonfires, and you drop your weapons when you die but that is really about it. Generally, I don't enjoy the combat very much. It is very basic and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have 1.8 hours on the game as I write this. It's not quite what I expected when I backed the Wind-Waker-meets-Dark-Souls Kickstarter campaign, but it's close and I'm loving it anyway. I was surprised by the initial emphasis on crafting and it can get a bit tedious to have to re-craft items as they break. I got used to it quickly, though, and don't really mind. I'm loving the game in spite of its rough edges. It's a bit buggy; sometimes plants float and the player gets stuck inside of things.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Cornerstone is quite fun to play. However, it is one of those stupid games that only feature one save. If you have only one save available, the developers have to ensure the game works perfectly and your save isn't corrupted in any way. And this game features a gamebreaking bug that means game over no matter how far in game you get. This bug is that you can get stuck in various places throughout the game (inside walls or other objects). If you get stuck, this is permadeath (you have start the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh its that kind game no manual save, checkpoint system doesn't make alotta sense (or works properly) its fun until you start to wander and then die then get sent way back to a checkpoint that you dont even remember. Pity really a quick save mode would make the game fun but as it is, meh not for me i guess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hello friends, Today i will be reviewing the game called "Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrin". This game is a 3d platformer where you do quests, help the people of the islands you explore, and build things. There is also a ok story, but don't expect a super long game. The time i played above is how long it took me to beat it, even while searching for stuff around the islands. The crafting system is clever. You can build stuff and repair things. Sometimes i build crates to jump up to places. Ive…

The endearing story, likeable characters and visual feel are its strong points. Janky movement and weak physics are its low…

neutral · AI labelView post →Cornerstone is a role playing game in which you play the role of a viking teenager looking to answer the classic question of what he wants. The game is decent as it introduces characters, various crafting options and an initial event to send you on a quest to find the village's warriors. The problem is The Song of Tyrim eventually becomes crippled and feels unfinished. The modeling is basic, but the objects are also very flexible. Some houses can be destroyed. There were efforts made to make…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good grief. I don't like leaving negative reviews but for the price they're charging...! Feels like a prototype someone knocked up in Unity (...it is a Unity project) - world graphics are pleasant enough but the characters are atrocious (main character looks like a wooden mannequin) and the animation and physics are broken. I can't believe this was on a kickstarter and this is all that was delivered - it really does feel like an abandoned alpha. It's a shame because at it's core I can see…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First and foremost, I paid 50 cents for this game and seeing its price tag of $20 blows my mind. This game looks okay but there's so much that needs to be fixed for it to be worth that much. First off, when you first load the game, on my computer, it's laggy and every single cut scene is too. My very first time playing this game I got stuck trying to jump and ended up lodged between the moveable rock cube and a ledge, so I restarted. Every jumping action has to be performed so perfect…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very cool little game that I bought in a bundle today. I didn't pay much for the bundle (£5)... but the price of the bundle was worth it for this game. I wouldn't say that this is the kind of game that I would choose as being "my genre". But the couple of hours I have played of it so far seem to indicate a neat little game, with humourous (and not too cheesy) dialogue. The controls work well - combat is nice and relaxing (in the starting zone at least). If you are after some light…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am giving this a tentative thumbs up after my initial impressions. I came in this not from a Kickstarter, but as a purchaser on a half-off discount. I imagine if I backed this, I'd be kinda disappointed. It's so hard to put it into words.. it's good, but it lacks polish. It also could use more refined controls. Really, if you didn't move so slow, the game might be twice as good. I find myself rolling all the time, and feeling like that's still slow.. it feels like it takes longer than it…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank you AGDQ17 for bringing this game to my attentention. The combat system is not great, but okay. I really like the style and the world with all its little quests. The crafting system opens up more and more throughout the story, revealing great gameplay mechanics. Great game overall!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Severely buggy, got stuck in several spots and had to restart the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5 hours in and I'm really enjoying the game. Feels much like Zelda the Windwaker in some aspects, such as the cel-shaded graphics and the boat travel. One thing to keep in mind...its not Zelda. For one it does not have near the large scale world Zelda has. Its open world that is for sure, but once you get to playing it you will realize quickly that it is sort of on rails with a story. I see how people are over and over saying how bad the combat is. I don't find it too bad now that I'm used to…

The controls are a bit, MEH, but do-able. But overall, a very interesting game to spend more time into it. Reloaded the game, still stuck. Had to erase the savefile.…

positive · AI labelView post →The Song of Tyrim is a fun and family-friendly adventure RPG. The graphics are great, with detailed characters and nice animations. It’s similar to games like Oceanhorn or The Last Tinker, so if you enjoyed those, you’ll probably like this too. There’s a lot to explore, interesting characters, and a cool crafting system for making items and weapons. The controls work well, and it’s easy to play with a controller. The only downside for me was some motion sickness because of the small FOV, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim is a kickstarted Unity based third person console-esque 3D action platformer/brawler with crafting elements as you can collect stuff and build inconsequential things. This really feels like a console game, and while it works, the third person view isn't the best animated and the camera controls aren't completely perfect... these might seem like minor frustrations, but when it comes to platformers and action games in general, controls absolutely must be tight and…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had a lot of fun with this game. It has some wonky physics at points, but it is pretty entertaining for a cheap game that will give you a bit of nostalgia from old times of playing Windwaker.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim I will write a review of what the game is in its current state hoping that they could add much more features into it. This is an amazing game but it could've been a lot better. I feel like this game has been going on for a bit of a backtrack. Like it's unfinished and not polished enough. I also feel like it's worth the price tag but you should be aware of that you can play a Demo of this game and I highly suggest you to play it before buying this. I was enjoying…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good Zelda style adventure, even though the combat is bad. Also, I have had problems with save files, you may want to back up them.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has frustrating physics, it has glitches, the controls are wonky...but it's fun. I recommend if you like the idea of an easy if a bit frustrating action adventure in the vein of Zelda. Lots of cool ideas like crafting your weapons and armor, fun characters, and simple puzzles. With a bit more polish this would be a really great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The combat system is very clumsy, I cannot recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tyrim is a cute game. The art style and music are both really good and fun. On the other hand, it has a ton of glitches and is missing some simple fixes that would make the game look and play a lot better. The controls don't feel smooth. The dialogue is childish, doesn't match the theme and it is just painful at times. I recommend the game, but wait for a sale.

Pros: + fantastic music + nice looking graphics and art style + runs super smooth + controller support + crafting system that can come handy in various situations + sailing + lots of secrets and side quests + the main story is fairly interesting and keeps you going + weapon degradation system + physics and ragdoll Cons: - some bugs with the physics can occur as always with physics - you dont…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've used the word 'fleshed' too many times, and now I feel dirty TL;DR This is a budget Legend of Zelda: Windwaker. There are admirable elements to Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim (the overly wordy title is not one of them). The world is relatively varied, and exploring the oceans feels suitably adventurous. The problem is, wherever there lies a praiseworthy element, it always feels like it isn't quite fleshed out. _________________________________ Why the crafting system isn't fleshed out…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was fun, the story was ok, the humor was childish, the bugs were too much and the challenges were hard. There's a lot of both + and - about this game but I still enjoyed it, whenever the game wasn't frustrating me. The only safe way to get through the game without having a bug permanently stop your progress is to make lots of savefile backups. I still enjoyed the game and it is actually possible to get all the achievements if you have patience (and backup savefiles).
