What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 184 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (386 of 422 positive).
Players praise Cosmodread for its immersive, terrifying atmosphere and effective VR horror. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note that the game's roguelike elements and RNG can lead to frustrating difficulty. [4][5][6]

It's a scary, atmospheric space horror game. My problem is that how far you get each run comes down to a dice roll on whether the amount of ammunition you find is enough for the amount of enemies in your way, and whether the amount of oxygen you find is enough for the amount of time you take to explore. If I could somehow convert all the junk I find into either of these resources the game would make more sense to …

Should have reviewed this ages ago. Absolutely love the atmosphere in this game. It has an almost magic way of freaking me out no matter how many times I play it. Bought this game on three different platforms, worth it every time. On a personal note; it was also the game that gave me my vr-legs.

These guys really are the only out there that are making VR Horror games that is like... you know.... actually terrifying! This game and dreadhalls are the only vr horror experiences that actually gets to me. As soon i boot into a game i instantly panic n ♥♥♥♥ myself. Both games are basic but they are really good vr experiences and I would highly recommend to anyone looking to have a heart attack in vr.

Best survival horror scifi shooter on vr. Absolutely recommend. Dev also still adds content, a major plus.

Stay a while and read on. So one time I'm going through the ship, gathering ammo and oxygen. Everything, for once, is going just spectacular. Then RNGesus decrees that my run is to be ended - I enter a room, see a gas canister, and when I approach it a bolt of electricity strikes it and the explosion kills me. From that time I wisened up -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Guys, you're sitting on a golden egg here. There's nothing quite like Cosmodread out there. Just keep adding more content! Different rooms with more objectives, interesting weapons, scarier monsters, perks! Like, you literally have no competition aside from a few similar games, and this game is built like it could be replayable forever, but I've sucked out every little bit of replayability there is but I still want more. The fact your game is calling me back should speak volumes. I'd buy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is an excellent game with Dead Space, Alien Isolation and Monstrum vibes, but actually having its own unique style. Controls, graphics, gameplay are top-notch. Only problem is that when you look out of windows or breaches in hull you can not see other rooms. Despite latter, it is a must-have VR title
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For $15 i was expecting crap. I had the alarm set for an hour and fifty minutes so i could be sure to get my refund with time to spare. Coming from half life: alyx, i was also all set to be just terribly pissed at any sort of differences in control from that game. As for graphics, the screenshots on the store page had me a bit concerned. Then, out of nowhere, the alarm was going off and i was having a blast. I played past the refund period and didn't have a single regret. The graphics aren't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a masterpiece of horror and it definitely won't go stale on you. There's so much to the mechanics as is that the dev could call it finished and they'd have a polished game out there. That said, I think this game is in Alpha. It definitely seems there will be more to it later on. The premise is really promising and is already so fun. Co-op wouldn't even ruin the terror in this game. The situation never gets less "dreadful" from one run to another. I limit myself to one run a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave this a thumbs up because it is a good game, having said that, its hard to recommend this in 2023. The game look/plays/feels like the first generation VR title it is, which might be a hard regression for some who have been in the VR game space for years already or joining at this generation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fantastic game to attempt and complete. Being a roguelike, every single attempt is different. In your journey through each run, you can encounter enemies that can revive, and weapons that are exceptionally useful. All of the said weapons feel exactly as strong as each other, difference in range and damage-patterns, for example my person opinion on the worst weapon is probably the railgun, requires holding down fire to charge. All while also being horror, something that combines…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really good, really atmospheric and i genuinely hope they continue to support this game development and direction. If im being honest, the game is too scary for me, which explains the low play time. However i do want to support the devs for building such a great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works on Reverb G2. Rogue-lite survival horror inspired by Dead Space. Less scary but more replayable than Dreadhalls. Superb sound and lighting create thick horror atmosphere that is spoiled a bit by goofy enemy models
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short game with amazing atmosphere... while providing a decent challenge, good lore and replayibility.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →White Door Games owes me a new pair of pants. The idea of enemies teleporting when the lights go out for a second is cool. "Headcrabs" are cool too. Gonna be glad to see more games from these developers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want a short experience that's scary, has guns and good game play mechanics it's a good buy. Cosmodread is good but it's replay ability may fall short for you. It's fun and the mechanics work well. I would like to highlight that the menu and inventory system is exceptionally good. The environment looks very nice, the monsters are disturbing to look at. I beat it on my second attempt so it is not that hard imo. I do feel like replay ability kind of fades away after the first win…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This pretty much replaced scary movies for me, average run is 80 minutes with experience. Feels like Alien but also The Thing sorta(deadspace?) Would be cool to see playable movies in the future, for sure. 10/10 seriously
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While there's nothing *super* special about this game, there is just an inherent appeal to a VR horror roguelike that encourages you to come back again and again as you learn more about the game, its challenges, and the blueprints that may just make a difference the next time you play. It's not something you'll play *all* the time, but as a game that does well in VR you'll find yourself enjoying a run every now and then. Maybe share the experience with your friends too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cosmodread, developed and published by White Door Games, is a virtual reality survival horror experience that fuses roguelike unpredictability with suffocating sci-fi tension. Set aboard a drifting, decaying spaceship lost in deep space, the game casts you as a lone survivor attempting to escape a vessel overrun by grotesque creatures and systemic failure. Rather than relying on scripted scares or cinematic spectacle, Cosmodread builds its identity around procedural design, resource scarcity,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The "roguelike" aspect of this game is what ruined it for me. I HATE anything roguelike because it typically leads to more frustration than fun. Cosmodread takes place in a randomly generated dark spaceship and gameplay involves aimlessly wondering through a maze of pitch dark corridors until you die. Once you die, that's it. You must start completely over. Yes, there is a watch menu function where you can save and then continue. However, this only worked ONCE for me. After I selected to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What as good game this is. The tension, the buildup, the environment, audio, voice acting, monster design are all top notch. Everything is designed to have you on the edge. In the game you are in kind of a time loop, where you go to a kinda "descent horizon" kinda freighter, where something horrible happened, and now you have to escape. To do so you need to explore the ship, power the engines, set the coordinates, and so on a few specific rooms. You move at a slow paced speed because you…

neutral · AI labelView post →Very fun Vr game. Very replayable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"We're leaving" simulator. Seriously there's so much to love in this game. It's kinda janky in some areas and some art assets are chunky. But man it handles well and the design/flow of the game is top notch. Equal parts Event Horizon and Dead Space in tone. Fun gameplay. Addictive and you want to do more that one run just to unlock more. The procedural maps don't get old and there's a good amount of variety of encounters. If you have a headset and can withstand some horror vibes, worth the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll probably break down and try this. I love roguelikes. Multiple is even better. I'd do terrible things for a sequel or multiplayer version of Cosmodread.
positive · AI labelView post →Scary, but fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Practically dead space vr, and it does it well. Rogue-like elements with procedural generation in all aspects (enemy spawns, map layout) Same objective every time but the procedural generation makes up for it. Even if you fail, there are things to unlock to make it easier for you, but also modifiers you can add to increase the difficulty. Very good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't play this game, it scares the ♥♥♥♥ out of me and I feel sick. Great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome, can't wait to try it out. Big fan of Cosmodread, it was one of the inspirations for my own VR game, but it must be nice to take a break from horror for a bit!
positive · AI labelView post →Great atmosphere, utterly horrible gameplay
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily one of the best, if not THE best VR - no - horror games in general on the market. It blends a perfect mix of immersion, control, mechanics, strategy and fear. The game captures the essence of the classic horror trope "the only way is through, and it's what you don't wanna do". Meta-game upgrades and modifiers change how you can play so you can fit it to your desired play style. The horror elements are not as bad as they might seem, about on par with the likes of Dead Space... but a bit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My #1 Horror game is Cosmodread. It's definitely a game where the atmosphere gets you.. just wears you down until you have to quit lol VR only though, so no 2d persons apply
positive · AI labelView post →Cosmodread is actually a really nice sort of random-gem horror space game. Enough crafting mechanics and actual environmental interaction. Jet Island is probably the most amazing movement game I've ever played. There's a couple that aren't like, 'the usual big ones'.

neutral · AI labelView post →Tried really hard to like this game but the item physics and physics in general are terrible. Something as simple as grabbing an item on the ground becomes a mini game because you have to position your hand PERFECTLY and in a way that logically makes little sense. Sometimes when you pick up items, they randomly just leave your hand when moving or turning. Just really clunky overall. bad physics/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →character is slow monsters look more goofy than scary the moment you get a decent look at them. and something about the fact that you are forced to start with a CROSSBOW of all weapons pisses me off. i dont know why that last one gets on my nerves so much. like. it couldnt have been a pistol? even a real ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one? not even one that has a slow as hell fire rate? no no no, when sending people into the bowls of a ship overrun with monsters. give them something that looks and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing VR FPS horror game. Great twist ending, very replayable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Actually one of the best horror games for VR. Atmosphere is fantastic, and the monsters gave me some legitimate scares. Rogue-like elements give the game a good amount of replay value as well. A fantastic buy for only $15.00.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good horror with slightly janky enemies. Good little game overall
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, can get pretty scary. Wish oxygen would last longer, but it does require you to think more about resource management

Imagine that Your small shuttle crash into big spaceship and after You wake, there is true horror. You are only living human on infested spaceship.
