Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 234 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (8,153 of 9,142 positive).

Players praise the story and emotional payoff, especially for Zack's character. [1][2][3] Some find the gameplay dated and repetitive, with a slot-machine combat system. [4][5][6] Many recommend playing the original FFVII first to avoid spoilers. [7][8][9]

My biggest connection to the Final Fantasy franchise is through Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts. Growing up, I had a PS2 and Kingdom Hearts, and that was mostly my exposure to Final Fantasy until later in my teenage years, when I started getting into the games more seriously. I first played Final Fantasy VII in 2019, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It was a game I thought I already knew all the major events of, simply because it was such a cultural zeitgeist. It felt like one of…

Prequel to FF7 Remake, so you can play it before or after, it doesn't really matter. Nomura mentioned playing it after Remake and before Rebirth as an ideal experience, which is what I did and it gave the few callbacks some meaning. That being said, this game is really campy. It tries to be serious, but the voice acting and the pacing is so bad that it's jarring. The game's worth playing of course since it builds on the story of the "main" game, but it doesn't really hit the highs in terms of…

Crisis Core is a sincere and heartful prequel to one of the best games in the gaming world. In a world where Final Fantasty struck lightning, this game adds more to that world. A PREQUEL THAT MISUNDERSTANDS WHAT MADE FINAL FANTASY VII SPECIAL This will probably be a controversial opinion, but I genuinely believe Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion is a game that never needed to exist. I went into it expecting a meaningful expansion of the Final Fantasy VII universe, but instead I found a title that often feels more like an attempt to extract more value from an already beloved brand. The biggest problem is the story. Crisis Core takes elements from the original…

Really interesting prequel to the events of FF7. I disagree with the general take that this game is an optional play. In my opinion, this is a must play for FF7 fans. Unfortunately, this game is in a really weird spot where it can only be played by people who played the OG or who finished the entire Remake trilogy. The original Crisis Core on PSP was my first introduction to the Final Fantasy franchise, I had zero thoughts about the lore and being good at the game as a 9 year old. Spamming jump attack crushes 80% of the game still. The mission environments do feel bare, but you have to keep in mind it is a game that was made for mobile systems. The graphics are greatly improved and combat is so much faster inline with the FFVII remake. The story still brings tears to my eyes. It is a great…

Only play this if you are a fan of FF7 and want to see Zack's story. Cause the game itself is a prettier version of a mid PSP game. You'll feel the PSP of it every second of playtime, and have to deal with voice work ranging from "That's pretty good" to " somebody check to see if the VA is even alive."

I should probably give this a negative review, but I still enjoyed most of the time I've played so it still gets my recommendation. The story is from events that happen before FF7 remake so you should play that one first. I love and hate this game. I will start with why I like it: The characters are hit and miss. Crisis Core Reunion is a great update of the PSP original. It fits right in with ff7 remake trilogy aesthetically, and the old CGI cutscenes still look great today. The loading times are much shorter, and there are a myriad of QOL changes you can look up that reduce waiting time from the original (such as the DMW interrupting gameplay less, but still being present.) I'm a big fan of the original and was very happy that it was totally respected and brought to PC is in such a great way. I…

Reunion, unlike the other Final Fantasy VII EXPANDED UNIVERSE! offerings, is a strict remake. Scene by scene, by the numbers, no additional story beats, no character changes, what you played when you were 13 with your PSP huddled in mom's backseat is what you'll play again. Though, modernized a bit. The original Crisis Core was impressive for a handheld game, and really it just needed some visual updates to reach the level of 'modern'. Zack is my second favorite FF protagonist only to Lightning. He just oozes fun and creativity, and this remaster of Crisis core highlights the PSPs original gameplay in a way that the game just feel much more fun to play with a PS5 Controller. However, this is a remastered port of a PSP game, so expect repetitive small arena fighting. I never get sick of hearing "ACTIVATING COMBAT MODE. COMBAT RESOLVED."

TL;DR Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion still has the bones of a 2007 PSP game, and sometimes you can REALLY feel them. Repetitive side missions, small environments, and a bizarre slot-machine combat system are all still here. But Reunion does a great job modernizing it. Pretty fun spin-off game, just don't expect too much. In the most literal sense, the story is mid. It is made up of ten chapters. The first five are complete horse hockey. The pacing is very rushed and the things that happen don't make a lot of sense. The second half of the story is where the game shines. The games slows down to really focus on Zack. The things that happen have real impact and things start making sense as it gets closer to connecting with the original FF7. The gameplay is fine.…

Growing up playing the PSP original, I have to say, this is a massive improvement over the original in quite a few ways. It provides the right amount of challenge, it allows you to skip those cutscenes during the limit breaks as well as regular cutscenes which speeds up MUCH of the games progress, and you also get the ability to dash, instead of just the standard run. The voice acting cast has been mostly replaced and redone by the current VA's from the FF VII remake, and I personally think…

8/10 Made during the Kingdom Hearts, J-Fashion, and Anime trope-ification era of Square Enix in the early 2000s, Square tries to get in the mindset that made it's 1997's Final Fantasy VII an outright banger. Played the original 2007 PSP version when I was younger. It was not bad, but didn't get through it because I messed up a save. I've completed it this time by over-leveling to the MAX. This version has all good things and bad things of the original. The bad dialogue and story still…

I've played both versions of this game at the same time, and ended up sticking with emulating the PSP version - I think most people should do the same. Off the bat, Reunion looks worse. I know some people will point to graphical fidelity as an objective improvement, but I'm mostly pointing out the differences in art direction. The color palette in Reunion is washed out, bland, and muddy compared to the original, which not only impacts how "pretty" things are, but also heavily (and usually…

I'm giving this a positive review because I think it has some merit to it, but honestly, I'd also be lying if I wasn't kind of wishing I'd just skipped it once I finished. The main draw of the game is seeing more of characters like Zack and Sephiroth before everything went wrong, and there's a lot to like on both counts. Zack is as charming and loveable as you'd expect him to be from the limited glimpse you get in FF7, and just seeing Sephiroth acting like a normal person is an interesting…

I loved Zack and I finally understood a bit about the lore of FFVII. The music is great, the combat (except for Minerva's) and the graphics everything is incredible and fun and the story is fantastic. The game leaves you eager to see more about it and discover more things about the universe and tie up the loose ends.

Recommendation mainly for the story factor. Gameplay is OK-ish but the game consists 60% of the combat-simulator style "missions", 25% of cut-scenes and 15% actual gameplay. This percentage also represents the "levels" aka the tiny areas where you can actually do something. The good: Runs stable on Linux without any issues.

I had higher hopes playing this game as I'm going through all the homework necessary to play the remakes, and I generally liked the original FF7, but I had to stop at the boss of Chapter 5. This game's combat wears thin very early on, and doesn't do anything new to compensate for it. The game is a series of linear corridors with enemy encounters stopping you every five feet. Pretentious and no depth. This is NOT canon! And don't even get me started on the gameplay. The balancing is awful. The gameplay is okay — nothing outstanding, but it works well enough to keep things moving. Combat can be fun, but it never really reaches a point where it feels amazing or deep. I played the life out of this game on the Playstation Portable when I was ~10 years old. You level up a character, equip magics and melee abilities, and boost your stats through character levels, equipment levels, and a sort of crafting. Most of the side missions were really just the same thing but with a different map or enemies, only one worth doing was the yuffie ones. The worst part about the game is easily the story, It had alot of potential to be really good and ended up being decent at best. There are two main characters in this game that just feel like ocs someone inserted, contribute barely…

Must play after Remake Intergrade Pros: + deep dive into the story before FF7 + Zack is such a wholesome character + spending time with younger versions of our beloved characters: Aerith, Tifa, and Cloud + very poetic, with constant Loveless quotes from Genesis, and quite theatrical + epic ending Cons: - PSP-era level design - 300 generic optional missions for farming, gear, and upgrades - leveling some materia takes quite a long time

I love Zack and enjoy how campy this game's story is but it doesn't feel great to play. It feels significantly worse than the other FF7 remakes, and I don't like its retcons to the original's true flashbacks of the Midgar reactor SPOILERS AHEAD (specifically adding genesis into the scene and altering Sephiroth's agency as a character to discover the truth about himself)

No Cloud hater, but Zack has to be the most charming Final Fantasy character and one of the most charming characters in gaming ever

Was this game always so bad? I finally got to playing FF7 Remake Integrade and the sheer difference between these two games is astounding. It is fair to say that this is just a remaster of a PSP game and not a full on remake so it's of course going to be worse... but it's also fair that for $17.50 (the lowest it's been on Steam for me at time of review), there's a lot of better games. I'm nostalgic for this game. This is one of the games that I actually finished on the PSP so I was excited…

the corniest dialogue you'll ever hear coupled with one of the worst gameplay you can experience I just wanted it to end as quick as possible. Playing this right after OG FF7 was such a jarring experience, this really felt like a low effort cash grab, the writing is just awful and I feel it would have been better to not exist as Zack was better left off as a symbol of heroism rather than get his own story like this Still have yet to play FF7R but I doubt my opinion would change for crisis…

This is just to try out the new Steam feature for pc system specs. I was already posting my specs in my reviews but i found this feature to be helful. I have beaten the game over a decade ago on PSP and it was hard and fun. I vaguely remember a lot of it but it was truly an awesome game for a PSP title. Graphics was ahead of it's time. Get it on sale. I might do a proper review eventually but for now this will be just to try out.

Whoever says that this game is cringe because of the story. Then you are wrong. I played Crisis Core on my PSP so many times but still after so many years, I love the game and recommend to play before FFVII REMAKE.

Just Spam Hell Thundaga and win even in the hardest difficulty. No point trying anything else. The gameplay is definitely made for portable playstation console back in the day. Graphics are great but it is very grindy and repetive. If I would have know the game is like this, I would just have played the cutscenes on youtube since I bought this after playing the original Final Fantasy VII (1997). The story and dialogue are very cringe too, and don't fit the new graphics. Overally the dialogue is…
