All units are unlocked at the start and there's almost no penalty for re-rolling shops, so it's not hard to see most of the game's content in just a few runs. I want to keep playing, but there's nothing to unlock or work towards.

neutral · AI labelView post →Really should advertise itself as a multiplayer game as the devs are pushing this PVP end game, there isn't much going on with the meat of the main game that is advertised, if you can get it for cheap it's a fun little auto battler to kill a couple of hours but after that it dies off pretty hard if you're not after the PVP.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a fun game, but feels more like a very long demo than anything else. The design of the runs doesn't feel very intentional, and a quite dislike the progression compared to what it could be. However, like I said before, it can still be fun. Grab it on a sale if you want to check it out, but I can't recommend this game at full price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I lost a lot in Despot's Game. A lot. Entire teams wiped out because I trusted one unit too much. Perfect-looking builds collapsing because I stood one tile too far to the left. The game never yelled at me for it. It just let me watch the consequences. And somehow, that was fun. I ended up finishing everything, not out of stubborn completionism, but because every run felt like a puzzle that refused to stay solved. You learn something, feel smart for five minutes, then the game politely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the outside, this game looks to have a lot of depth and replayability. Unfortunately, it does not. This entertained me for a solid 10 hours or so, but that was it. The main reason came down to this: the reasons why I'd play a game like this are different from the developer's intentions. The developers seem to be going for an online multiplayer style gameplay loop, where you can use a run to set up a party that will face off against the parties of other players. This is the MAIN…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this on a 75% sale ($6.50 CAD) and I feel like I barely got my money's worth. There's a lot of great concepts but a lot of dull ones as well. The core of this game is great, the art, sounds, sprites, concept, core mechanics, but everything around it stymies its depth: Everything that you control is based around one resource. Which in theory I like, since you're always considering this balancing act between army size, food, and modifiers, but the problem is how detrimental starvation is…

neutral · AI labelView post →TLDR: a somewhat shallow pve-centered autobattler with pvp at the end of a run. Great visuals, catchy music, sassy dialogue during events, which were a highlight of the game; decent variety of game modes and constant balance updates. Lacking in some qol and, if you go for 100% achievements, it overstays its welcome. Still would recommend DBS: it’s not groundbreaking, but well made. Developers definitely care about the game. What strikes right away is a very strong visual side of the game: the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If Steam had a sideways thumb button I'd choose that. This game is a 6/10 realistically. Gameplay: gets stale fast, most of my hours are from achievement hunting which is becoming exhausting, especially the 100 pvp wins because you have to get an hour and a half of pve per 4 pvp rounds half of which you wont win because of bad rng or just having a non meta comp. Vibes: the games cringe in a good way, I enjoyed the humor and the easter eggs for my first couple play throughs, the music is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overview A game about herding human chaff through a meat processor run by a tyrant who’d be more compelling as a speeding ticket. The premise is Orwell's 1984 as written by a burnt out intern at a recently acquired mobile game studio. You’re told it’s a “dystopian battle simulator,” but really, it’s a spreadsheet where the cells scream when you delete them. The Despot is a non-entity, a void in a crown, a screensaver with delusions of grandeur. The “story” is a fortune cookie slip that says,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(SWITCHED FROM NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE REVIEW, POSITIVE REVIEW EDIT AT BOTTOM) You ever play a game and that game has that one flaw or game mechanic be so bad that it just ruins the entire game for you? Well this game unfortunately has that. Food. Your people consume food every single time you move anywhere, even rooms you've been in (which is incredibly stupid). In this game your people need food to continue fighting. Problem is the people are so incredibly weak and the items you get do such…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where does the fun begin? It is just boring slugfest.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fine, but it seems like the focus has been on the auto-PvP element at the end of each single-player run, so after a few hours you've seen pretty much everything there is to see in the main game. There's not enough variety in the enemies, items, or upgrade paths to make the game interesting. Hard mode / skill challenges are locked behind a DLC which I haven't played. If you like the PvP element this game may keep your interest for more than a few hours (it's not real PvP, but other reviews…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic review start with 'with there was a neutral button.' The game has one note and one vibe, the pink little fellas with their silly little costumes/abilities. That's the game and not much more to it, not to disparage it either. It's an auto-chess styled game with a rogue-lite progression system, and again, if you like the pink fellers, it should be great. I didn't get tickled much by these little fellers so the game wasn't good for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mhm, might be a good idea to put an "Are you sure" confirmation box on the restart button
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. I do wish there was more equipment variety (maybe 1 extra option for each rarity for each class that gives a different effect) and a tooltip that explains what the weapon skill does would be cool too. Absolute banger soundtrack though. Transitioning during boss rooms and muffling when tabbing out is a very nice touch.

You'll be able to collect a very large range of items 5 items per class, I think there are 10 classes. Such as healer, fighter, tank, mages, etc.. from there you will also have mutations you can obtain, currently there is 178. Lastly there are 14 buttons. Buttons are primarily for PVE but some can be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despots game is a very good game in the esscence of it being a rougelike simulator, although i do have a few problems with the game 1. it needs more weapons 2. the game is very weird with progress. everytime you play you get better, its not a huge problem but i want to lose before making progress at least. these 2 problems are the only problems i have with the game so i reccomend it toany fans of games like TABS the binding of issac andother rougelikes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not steam deck playable. i have been ripped off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a dopamine machine along the lines of Vampire Survivors -- and your reward at the end is seeing just how good your army stacks up against other players. this is a blast to play through, a uniquely rewarding experience that just feels better than other autobattlers on the market. great soundtrack too!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despot’s Game: Dystopian Battle Simulator, developed by Konfa Games and published by tinyBuild, is a wonderfully chaotic blend of roguelike structure, auto-battler mechanics, and dark satire. It throws players into the role of an unseen overseer commanding an army of naked, amnesiac humans through a procedurally generated maze full of deadly traps, strange enemies, and absurd upgrades. The game manages to stand out in a crowded indie field by embracing a unique tone—equal parts dystopian sci-fi…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was very fun. Pretty addictive, but not too long, depending on how you slice it. You can finish the main campaign in about five hours. Figure out all the various mechanics and synergies. After that it's about optimizing and participating in the ladder tournaments. A lot of the negative reviews are not happy with that, but if you pick this up on a discount, you'll enjoy an excellent short game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its like eating grey paste strong visual style and fun character who only appears during the tutorial. after that its like they forgot to put a game in their game. you just go from room to room pressing attack. and yeah other autobattlers or other genres like rpgs do the same thing but they have a story. there are decisions that you make in building your party. here, you really do just hit attack over and over again. fill out your class's item bonuses. give your guys high level items. thats…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I fought the world to buy this game, but after playing it for a few minutes, I didn't feel anything. I felt it was fun to watch, not to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The second destopian game I played and I'm entertained af, AGAIN! The artstyle, the little story going on behind, and a supernice mix of roguelike autobattler in combination with pvp. Very nice lil nichethingy for now and then! Big shoutouts to that whole dev team! Keep it cookin 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not gonna lie, I DID expect a bit more, but at the end of the day it's an auto battler with some replayability, some different modifiers/modes, and an asynchronous multiplayer, where you fight other players' teams after you win the game (or in between in 1 mode) for ... nothing, really, bragging rights. There's a leaderboard. It's an interesting idea, and you can't fault Konfa Games for rehashing their one and only idea over and over again. They have built this "Despot" universe, but each game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some of the mechanics feel a bit confusing at first. Example: Magic Damage (Still king of confusing) Anyway the game has depth and fun game modes. King of the hill is a cool multiplayer without feeling overly competitive or stressful. 41 hours in and I can say that I have gotten my monies worth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun when you get the flow of the game. But I'm not seeing myself doing more than 30 runs overall. I am interested enough to see more combos between teams though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's okay. Kind of shallow, the mini-map icons are confusing, and the levels feel kind of same-ish. I think the concept is interesting at least. The writing is kind of jarring and chaotic at times.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once you understand this game flow, its like drugs. Like really good drugs... Like drugs you can't stop doing when you start.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kind of boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got near the end, suddenly there's a common enemy with enough damage to oneshot half my team; no worries since i have tanks at the front, but it also has an ability where it digs into the ground to burst up at the back of my team, then deals its whole damage in an aoe, which causes my entire backline to die instantly there's no warning this enemy will show up beforehand, it has too much health to burst down before it kills the backline, it just seems to be a punishment for taking ranged units.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is way, way, way too short and simple at the price point. The build variety is not sufficient that you really feel like you want to do several repeat playthroughs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for a short, fun and addictive auto battler with lite online mode... Well you found it 👌 - Music is great - Pixel Art is nice - not too hard... For the normal campaign - different build options, but not too many - campaign can be finished in 2/3 hours - interesting online mode, where you battle other people teams, you are ranked in different leagues and each season brings a new meta. What I disliked : Well only the food management, it feels like an unnecessary waste of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game, very challenging and addictive. Once I beat solo play a few times, the runs became a little stale in my opinion. However, that didn’t matter as unlocking the online tournament mode was able to give me several more hours of playtime, almost becomes a whole different game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun atmosphere and concept, however, gets repetitive very fast as there is just five items for each role and you have to have all of them, so no sense in trying to get the five strongest of the items. You very quickly hit a ceiling where you just skip all the shops as there is nothing left to buy as you have most of the 5-item combinations (no 'rare/legendary'-items to dig for), so it's just a constant repeat of 'next room'>'fight'>'buy food'(if available)>'next room' - variance comes from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great fun for about 3 hours, and then its over. There isn't enough to the game beyond the first few runs until the game is finished. The hunger mechanic feels very unfun, its an unnecessary restraint placed upon the game to add some sort of tension but it rarely provides interesting decisions. And the multiplayer mode, which could be the most interesting part of the game, seems incomplete. Having your army play other armies which are not live, like an "offline" multiplayer mode is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and addictive, fantastic little auto battler RPG that hooks you from the very start. Played from beginning to end and even got addicted to min-maxing my team. Still stands the test of time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Suck my Despot for these useless and stupid "seasons", make more content for 'SLIME 3K' you lazy tripple Despot suckers...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The core loop is fun and makes you wanna try different builds everytime you fail a run. I liked it! If autobattler is your cup of tea it is worth it, specially during a promo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Getting all of the achievements felt like a ball ache.... Loved the first 20-30 hours of gameplay, but when it became a grind to get all of the mutations I wanted to delete my irl system32 folder
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game slaps. On multiple levels. Once you figure out how to "easy-win" the campaign, you won the game however, now you get thrown into the online leaderboards and have to fight with people who either suck or who know way, WAY more about the game than you do (making the "human kaiju" is pretty dope and I have no idea how to counter it, lol!) I like the leaderboards at the end of a run because it causes me to think that I am not the best, and try to learn from people who kicked my arse!…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a great game for the price, you can get a few hours of fun out of it. i like all the animations for the weapons because they make me excited. but the game is sadly short and the dev puts weird emphasis on multiplayer. game feels a finished empty after 1 victory screen which isnt good for a roguelike
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Be aware! The PvE gets boring really quickly, and the PvP is all about following some meta strategy and replaying the game until you get the right RNG to build it. I really loved the idea and the graphics, but the game is really simple and lacks depth. I’d only recommend buying it on sale and not paying more than 2 or 3 USD.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got rank 1 in greenhorn and have beaten myself 4 times ..... THIS GAME IS MY LIFE AFTER 7 DAYS OF BEING INSTALLED.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It tickles my neurons juuust right
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →stale forced meta, very bad experience if you never use fighters or fencers and really like the spellcasters
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only reason I haven't refunded this is because I forgot about this game for longer than two weeks and Steam's stupid refund policy doesn't let you refund games unless you bought them two weeks ago. But I still want my money back. This game's main issue is that it's boring. It's incredibly boring, and the devs don't care enough to do anything about it. There's not much else to say. The game is a waste of money and time, and you'll get absolutely no enjoyment from it. None. There is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not fun at all because it gives you no sense of why what's happening is happening or whether you will win or lose. You just get more meaningless stuff to upgrade your guys.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sick pixels, chill soundtrack, and a satisfying grind. Definitely worth checking out if you want a little battle game, perfect for relaxing and passive play.
