Many find the game too reliant on luck, leading to frustrating runs. [1][2][3]

Game honestly feels super unbalanced and not fun to play. There doesn't seem to be any strategy to the game and it's mostly luck, leaving you frustrated when you lose since you feel you had no control over your outcome. Game has a bit of charm, but it doesn't make up for the core gameplay loop being bad.

It's fun, but other than the gameplay and character art, it feels unfinished and poorly designed even after 2+ years of updates. It has many obvious and easy to fix UI problems. I recommend it, but only if you get it very discounted. · Character select is a very long horizontal strip that you have to slowly scroll. · The scroll wheel is inverted in the character select screen. Instead of down to advance like every …

Me and my partner absolutely love this game, especially on the steam deck. We love the music, art style and gameplay. We hope there may be a Dice and Fold 2 in the future with some QOL changes from the first game. Only negative we have about the game is it feels like you can't win every run. Relics feel randomised to the point of sometimes it is just worth resetting the runs as it is not winnable. I however do not …

Super fun!!! I was nearly discouraged out of buying it by reading the handful of negative reviews saying it was too RNG heavy, but on the normal difficulty level, I found I'm winning about 90% of matches. Probably less than half of that on Hard, it's a pretty big jump facing that many elites. But that's what should be expected, hard mode is hard? Right? There's also a LOT of ways to massage the RNG in your favor. …

Loved this game. A deep roguelike deckbuilder game. Provide lots of variety in the game due to sheer number of characters/classes. Each character provides unique power and requires different strategy in order to finish one run. Although the downside is every classes that you use has a certain meta that you need to build in order to finish the run, if you try a different tactic, outside of meta, you will likely to …

60 of 217 · most liked firstD&F is a rouge-like (featuring some unlockable content). The game is played over a series of battles in which you, and your one companion, attempt to defeat one or more monsters. Each turn-based battle takes place over a set number of rounds, powered by a roll of the dice. You will attempt to place these dice on the slots of yourself or your companion (activating the respective skills) or in your enemies' slots (killing them if all spots are filled). Within each battle, you will repeatedly roll…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve played for a couple of hours, it is missing the essential roguelike element where losing still feels like progress, it’s too random. The art style is fun but there are better roguelikes available.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game, but I find myself only playing it when I genuinely have nothing else to do. It's way too luck-based to be rewarding, because when you inevitably do win a run, it doesn't feel like you actually won through any skill of your own. I truly don't even believe it's 100% luck based. Monsters can have exact dice values that you need to meet to beat, such as 2 threes and it won't accept anything else. I've gone a dozen turns in a row before where an enemy needed a one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels largely undercooked. I've played about 6 hours in the last week and while the concept works and is good enough in my opinion, there's something missing from the gameplay loop. The only way you get stronger in a run (not counting trinkets that take a while to unlock) is by buying items and accepting companions. You get a choice to accept 1 out of 3 companions and a choice of 3 items at a shop. Both of these matter the most inside a run because if you don't get an economy…

neutral · AI labelView post →Clever concept, failed execution. Not enough meaningful decisions. It's a completely boring grind to get to the end of your first few runs. There's some basic polish issues around music.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is hard and thats cool but you dont get anything for failing runs. i started to type a longer review but nobody is gonna care to read all that or even see it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I really enjoy this type of games. I watched a gameplay video of this game before buying it and I loved the game mechanics. I was enjoying playing the game at the beginning but when I advanced a little bit further the game got me frustrated. I play Slay the Spire and Balatro a lot, I have hundreds of hours in those games and when I die there I know that I died because of my fault (mostly) or because of bad RNG (rarely). So even if I die there I enjoy the game. In this game however the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could recommend this game. It's fun and has a pleasant art style. Easy to understand game play loop and enough variety to encourage multiple playthroughs. HOWEVER. There are bugs that make it impossible to hit an enemy, and the wording on cards/items is inconsistent, even when referring to "keyword" abilities. Perhaps I will be able to move this to a recommend after a patch, but for now save your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As Cyen put it well: to play this game optimally, you have to play it as boring and slowly as possible. Check his review for the full breakdown. What I can add briefly: the RNG is brutal. You can have a near-perfect run and then hit an enemy that only accepts a specific die, one you haven't rolled in several turns. The DM closes in, the damage stacks up, and even if you scrape through, the run is effectively over. The worst part is that you never feel like you lost because of a mistake or a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First less than positive review. First time quitting a game like this, and I play games like this, like it's my job...A game of firsts for me, I guess. Maybe it just caught me on a bad, but, again, I don't leave negative reviews (on principle). I'm sorry to the devs, but even the UI is annoying; It felt like even my mouse was controlled by RNG. I loved the ADHD/Autism option in settings (every game should have an option for that when applicable)! However, that was unfortunately where the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a big supporter of indie games and I don't enjoy down voting them. I'll happily make an exception for DIce & Fold since it has been an extremely unpleasant experience to play. The one feature the game has in its favour is the wide selection of heroes, there are dozens of them. Mind you, they aren't in the slightest bit interesting, they have one attribute. You get an companion, but the selection of companions appears to be the same regardless of your selected hero. The dice rolling part…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun. It's good for about 10 hours or so, after that you'll probably lose interest. Well worth the asking price though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Roguelite game with unlockable content, like Poker Quest, Slay the Spire, Slice & Dice, etc. An addictive little gameplay loop. These games are engrossing at first, but after a few hours perhaps you will see the miserable little hole you are sitting in, whiling away your handful of hours on Earth on this empty exercise. With a bit of practice and thought, you get better at the game, and at first this feels good as you win, or rather as the game tells you that you win--until you think about…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its just purely RNG based some hero's are easy and no problem. Others are just barely playable and just require pure luck
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the beggining game seems fun but after few runs it start to be monotonous, also completing this game for 100% achievements require not healthy amount of grinding. Overall game is fun but for first 10hourse after that there is not enjoyment while playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's nice and once you've figured out the mechanics you can have chilling runs in easy or normal mode Gameplay is clever and original and the game is not expansive The only bad thing about it is the music: you have only one and it's repetitive. You can always mut if you want ;)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really interesting game that just hooked me. It is easy to understand, easy to just jump into but pretty hard to master. My main gripe with it is that it seems very luck oriented (duuh) to the degree that a few unlucky rolls and your whole run just ends. I lost like 20 HP out of my 26 to a wasp that required an exact 2 die, and I just rerolled A LOT without getting one. Also, aggro is a bit unfair, because foes always seem to target the main hero even when the companion is full health.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, a good casual game. It has a few bugs related to playable character abilities, where they simply don’t activate after spending dice on them, which can be pretty frustrating, as it results in wasted dice. That should be fixed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasn't quite sure whether to recommend this game or not, but a handful of reasons pushed me towards a light no: 1) It's one basic mechanic over and over with very little significant deviation. It's not a bad mechanic, but it's a little wimpy as the only mechanic. 2) No world-building or story at all, which makes it kind of feel like a mobile game (nothing wrong with that - I'm just playing this on my PC so it's not what I want). 3) I can't put my finger on why this turns me off, but the steam…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They seriously inflated the perceived amount of content. There’s like a hundred character classes with essentially the only difference between them being an active ability. I’m not complaining about extra content—but the way it’s done is kind of absurd. Making the player go through all of these is disingenuous to how much content is actually there. You’ll be going through the same set of enemies and one of a few final bosses every time. If you’re a completionist, get ready for a slog, one that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels unfinished. The wording for items and abilities is irregular and unintuitive, death and victory screens feel like they haven't changed since playtest, the animations are lackluster, and overall there is not much strategic depth. A lot of other reviews are complaining about the game being 100% RNG, which is silly since games of this genre are supposed to be random in many ways. Some high difficulty runs are going to be doomed from the start, that's just how it is. However, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its.... unbalanced and so luck based you cannot really do much strategizing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend this game sadly, it is too RNG-based, and I don't mean the general roguelike schtick. I mean you could be on a great run, and lose because one or more monsters require one or more exact values from the dice, and turn after turn you just don't roll it and end up dying because of it -- nothing you could do, and it is a common end to a turn. Its a shame, because the rest of the game feels and looks great, and would be in that "one more turn" vibe. But after you move on from the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I'm honest, I just don't think the balance is very good in this game. It can be entertaining for a couple hours but certain builds clearly are worse than others and there are plenty of runs where you literally get RNG killed within 2-3 battles because everything is a specific number and you never roll or skill it. Some characters you'd have to try to lose and others are garbage except in niche situations. It just isn't really rewarding to slog through random chance like this, it becomes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this game is lovely. Sometimes the luck of the dice isn't with you and the run will be short, but mostly it has been good. I can pick up and put down the game which is great with busy work schedule or just wanting to play something before bed. I like the abilities, the art, and the characters. Good stuff.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique take on dice games, was hesitant to try it but i got hooked, so many classes and mechanics, its casual friendly but very RNG, coz you know "Dice", but there are ways to mitigate that, so far im having fun unlocking characters and relics, you dont progress when you lose a run tho like most roguelikes that give you atleast some sort of bonus or resources when you fail.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →busted, can't attack some enemies, some enemies don't do anything and can't be targeted. 2 years after the release and it's this broken? really?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Will be positive review if they fix: - making it clear how the stack resolves - items that seem that they should work together sometimes dont - inconsistent effect keyword wording - "undo last move" button that works less than half the time you want to use it - unhittable enemy bug Fun game with infuriating rough edges that haven't been fixed in 2 years. Does not seem like a dev that cares, such a shame because the game itself is good for what it is.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't punish me for being cleaver and making all available moves to me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No means of unlocking additional trinket slot for the heroes that have them restricted. Unacceptable. Truly sad because the rest of the game is nice and has enough mechanics to make an RNG game enjoyable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is 'fine'. I have played a lot of games like this, but this one, while technically functional and looks nice, it just doesn't hit the mark for me enough to recommend it. Even when there are achievements to get for defeating the game with each character, for unlocking items, something I love doing, it has ended up feeling almost like a chore I have set myself, rather than me being enthused about opening the game. It was at this point that I decided to just quit playing. There are…

neutral · AI labelView post →This review is especially made for those who like to get all the achievements in games. Dice & Fold is a roguelike dice game where you battle groups of enemies with lots of different types of heroes, each one with a specific ability. The game doesn’t have a story mode, but has lots of relics to unlock and five difficulty levels to choose from. Overall the game looks great and the monster and hero designs are cartoonish but very well made, with a particular aesthetic that reminds me of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, light, straightforward, easy to learn, pretty replayable, even if somewhat repetitive. A lot of unlockables and achievements. Can easily be played in the background (no time pressure), requires just a mouse to play. BUT! Despite having had 5 content drops, the game is plagued with simple, silly, obvious things that negatively impact user experience, I'm sometimes wondering if anyone playtested this. * tutorials handled through in-game popups never clear. If you play Jack (the first…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one's pretty fun. Once you understand the dice bag and the character abilities, the randomness decreases significantly and runs get fun. Of course, you're still rolling dice, so you will get lucky or unlucky sometimes, but the luck factor seems to be comparable to a typical deckbuilder. My main complaint is that runs tend to feel pretty similar. There aren't enough character archetypes or items that significantly alter the core gameplay loop. But that loop is pretty fun for a while,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this for the summer sale, but this game is all RNG and very unbalanced.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming, but boring and lacking in variety of approach, unfortunately.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm mixed, I really want to rave about this game but it has some serious cons. The biggest con is about game design elements, for example the easy/normal/hard ect. For some reason the developer seems to think easy on some characters = no trinkets but hard gives you trinket slots? The easy option should have all slots open on all characters. Also characters with specials that cannot effect bosses or certain monsters with no verbiage to inform you is garbage. If your special is not going to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this game is a ton of fun, and I do enjoy it, the bugs ruin the game. Even when I'm struggling with a character and switch to easy it appears like nothing changes gameplay wise and I still need to play the game 5+ times to win the character. There are run ending glitches where the companions stop accepting dice and will just sit there not attracting enemy attacks or being able to use their ability. On the final boss battle, the main character and companions, ability stopped working. One…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I came to this via Dicey Dungeons and it has a similar feel to it but that soon changes as you play. The mechanics with the dice are less complex here - there are only a few rules you have to meet (=, <, >, sum) but they are used in interesting ways. As you go through the levels it is not about switching individual dice out but collecting gold to buy items to make your character more powerful. So perhaps you buy an item that gives you shields, or allows a reroll or gives you a special one dot…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I normally don't like dice-based roguelikes, as it seems like there's some competition around who can make the most complicated one out there. This is not that. It's very simple, everything is explained pretty well, though at first you might have to click around to find out what is what. Only very very slight minus I have to give it is there's no codex to explain the keywords. (there is a codex, but that just loosely explains heroes and companions) I personally love Slay the Spire due to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like roguelikes, this is a great one. It's not too easy and it's not too hard. There is a ton of replay value because of the HUGE number of characters you can play.
