What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 229 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (771 of 841 positive).
Players praise the game's addictive gameplay, charming pixel art, and engaging writing. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game becomes repetitive and lacks long-term appeal. [4][5][6] Several players criticize the lack of a banish mechanic for relics and excessive RNG at higher difficulties. [1][5][7]

The game is enjoyable until Death receives two lucky dice and Fumble protection. 0 risk and you can do nothing but watch as your health gets burnt to a crisp from multiple perfect banks. Takes what would be an otherwise fun and enjoyable game and takes agency away from the player as you helplessly watch your run become a waste of time.

Great game, I'm enjoying it a lot. Couple of points for feedback for the devs (I mean this constructively): - The game absolutely needs a "banish" mechanic for bad relics. Every time I unlock a new relic that's not super good all I can think of is "damn, now my chances of getting XXX relic are reduced forever, I'd rather not have unlocked this at all", it feels terrible. Games like Loop Hero or Vampire Survivors fix …

This is unironically one of the best games I've ever played. You get four characters, each with a different playstyle and fascinating story. Beautiful graphics, cool music and amazing gameplay loop. This is not just dice... it's dice if it had actual depth to it. Highly recommended to anyone who's a fan of card or dice games. Playing dice with death... makes you feel alive :)

✔ simple gameplay, but there are a few novel class and build ideas that you can play with ? there is enough artifacts/dice to have fun for a few runs, but after that you realize there aren't that many choices, because you get offered artifacts, which obviously do not fit your build anyway ✘ gets pretty repetitive ✘ becomes very RNG heavy on higher difficulty levels and you cannot mitigate it - Death can simply …

86% of the 229 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Dice With Death. The complaint that keeps coming up: lack of banish mechanic for unwanted relics. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

neutral · AI labelView post →Very pleased. I have a personal genre of games I call "after hours." These are games I enjoy after work when I'm a bit too taxed out for things that are extremely complex or that take hours to do, but still want a challenge to help my mind switch from work-mode to recreation. I'm usually a bit leery of games of chance vs. computers, but Death levels with you from the start that it's going to cheat and gives you the tools to level the playing field if you're clever. I'm also a sucker for pixel…

neutral · AI labelView post →I enjoyed *Dice with Death*, but after about 14 hours, I’d pretty much finished the game. I’m not interested in PvP, otherwise I could have kept playing for a while longer. I really liked the dialogues because they were funny and had a slight philosophical touch. Unfortunately, the game lacks long-term appeal for me.

neutral · AI labelView post →If you absolutely love deckbuilding, it's a recommend; otherwise, you can skip this one. Pros: Aesthetics Mechanics of adding dice/relics to your pool Cons: Slow, even on 2x speed Gets repetitive quickly Gameplay forces you into certain types of play depending on character choice, which isn't fun, especially for a roguelike. Too few dice/relics at the beginning Unlocking relics is more of a punishment than a reward From what I played, you can only have one die of each type, which means you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game shows a lot of promise, but for me it feels small. I cleared stage 1 in one go, and I think I understand what I’m doing even though the game doesn’t always clearly explain what that actually is. That lack of clarity stands out early. The core idea is strong. It’s a dice-building roguelike where you stack combos using dice and relics, pushing your luck to scale damage. That part works it’s fun, and like most dice systems, it’s inherently satisfying. But here’s the issue for me: I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poker Dice but each hero plays with some special tweaks, artifacts change the rules further, and various special dice can add some neat tweaks. Besides just the player being able to cheat, Death himself also has many special artifacts and dice to counter your rule bending.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remember when I played the demo of Dice with Death (and missed the scrollbar due to Kiri Difficulty 😂)? The game is out now. Check it out if you're interested in a casual but engaging dice roguelike 🎲

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is very buggy. Controller support is glitchy. I once had to choose between relics i already had, all with the same tool tip. replacing dice screen drops to 15 FPS for no reason. Can't change controller inputs.. volume is weird. some audio effects are really out of place and don't belong in the game.. widescreen settings are glitchy. menus feel unintuitive. Otherwise the game is a really cool concept. Do your QA, redesign your interface, better sound design and I'll change my review.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Nominating this for the "Sit Back and Relax" Steam Award 2025 (strange, I know), but with 130+ hours of the game since it launched, I figured it deserves a review. Death With Dice takes a character-specific approach to a dicebuilder, and then pairs it with a much slower pace and well-themed aesthetic to make a chill, but challenging experience. It's changed a lot since launch (new difficulties, dice, relics, and a character), but the consistent thing for me is how easy to just hop on and play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay loop is decent, but the replayability is very limited, which is a pretty big issue for a roguelike.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i've played a fair few of the gamba roguelikes, balatro, cloverpit.. but this one stuck for me as i enjoy having an "opponent", even if its behavior is largely deterministic and has an actual personality of sorts with the dialogue exchange after each round, rather than competing with a static number. despite being dice with >>death<<, this game feels more alive than most "watch number go up" gamba simulators. i would say to make the end of second circle easier and to make third circle harder.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're wondering if you should get this game, just do it. Mechanically the game is very fun with lots of cool unlocks with plenty of replayability- but that's not why I think everyone should play this game. Not to get too personal, but recently I've been having a really hard time with the concepts of death and my own mortality. Situations and events in my life have brought these ideas to the forefront of my mind daily. The premise of this game and the little stories that piece…

Takes what would be an otherwise fun and enjoyable game and takes agency away from the player as you helplessly watch your run become a waste of time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →much too hard. Even on the second difficulty Death did around 400 hp in one turn. Having unlockable characters behind a difficulty setting is even more frustrating. It was fun until death gets a ridiculous amount of free dice allowing it to perfect bank over and over again.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Given the 21 hours I have in this wonderful game, I feel like I owe it a glowing review. I'll try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible. I'll preface this by saying that although I generally enjoy roguelite games, I am not good at them by any stretch of the imagination. Even so, I would absolutely recommend this as a first roguelite because of its stellar balance between risk and reward, as well as its tutorial. Once you start to understand the simple mechanics it has, you realise that there…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dice With Death feels like a mix between Balatro and Yahtzee, but it still has its own unique flavor that keeps things fresh and fun. Unlike Balatro, where you're chasing a target score, I really liked the added element of playing against an opponent (in this case, Death) who can also experience streaks of good or bad luck. Just as you can. There’s a small storyline woven into the game that’s serviceable, but it’s also easy to ignore if you just want to focus on the gameplay. Building…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont sleep on this. Amazing game, cozy vibe, fun gameplay, nice storytelling, sweet oldschool visuals.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Death has 2 dice and lethal poison stacks. He needs another 100+ score to kill you. He rolls a 6 and a 3. He gets 2 free dice to roll every round. He rolls another 6 and another 3. Perfect Bank. gets all his dice back. Next roll he gets enough to kill you. Confirmation bias yada yada, it happens way too often. This game will make you hate it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an awesome game to just roll and have fun with. The difficulty scales with your understanding of the system, so I never felt like there was too much to learn at one time. I was initially hesitant about the Eternity mode, but found it to be quite enjoyable. I do have 1 complaint. I was playing as the soldier in eternity mode, and got to round 57, but at that point, I had unlocked all of the relics in the playthrough. Death had me select another relic, but with not being able to select…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stellar roguelike, a recent favourite. Every relic and build has merit and synergy, rewards a bit of creativity in build making. Frequent updates and attentive devs keep the game fresh. Worth checking out if you're a fan of strategy Roguelikes. 8/10

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Saw a friend playing this and the fact that she and I have similar tastes convinced me to try it. I happened to purchase it during the sale but I'd happily pay full retail price for this gem. The pixel art is gorgeously retro and I enjoy the fact that the game board has different themes for each chosen character. Death himself is quite an engaging opponent with a wry sense of humour that reminds me slightly of Discworld's counterpart. There are different dice sets to collect and relics to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a fun "Farkle" dice roguelike. Lots of build variety, great animations, a solid little story and characters, and tons of atmosphere and charm. The dopamine I get when I hear "KNEEL BEFORE BARNABUS" is unparalleled (iykyk). Thanks so much dev team! I loved it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks to Connagh H. and others, I spent many hours gambling, and I’m really glad I did! The choice of classes even made me view the game partly as an RPG.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has potential, but is simply not finished. Most salient issues are the UI design which is lacking, and it needs rebalance. Overall enjoyable, but I can't decently recommend it in this state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i have put too many hours into this game. yes, i love it. i have read some reviews about not being able to essentially being able to "pick and choose" your relics, which would remove the difficulty in the game. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun, especially if you like games like Inscryption and the like. I love the stories that Death tells in between matches, and the dice and trinkets are pretty awesome and have variety.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid dice-building game with relics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dice with Death surprised me more than I expected. I picked it up thinking it would be something I could jump into for a few quick runs, but it kept pulling me back in for just one more attempt. A short session easily turned into a late night. The core game is simple to grasp but stays engaging. Rolling and building around your dice never feels repetitive, and the mix of classes, relics, and dice types gives each run a different shape. There is enough variety that you are always adapting…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Balatro but with dice. And Dᴇᴀᴛʜ reminds me of Terry Pratchett.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am hooked onto this game I love the aspects that each dice does something different. The simplicity of this game is what keeps me playing I keep saying to myself just one more game but it never is because the pride I feel beating death at is own game is satisfying. I highly recommend this game if you are looking for a strategic roguelike game to plays after a long day. I enjoying listening to my music while playing this game 10/10 absolutely love it and will continue coming back to this game.
