This game, truly, is one of its kind. I would not call myself a gaming enthusiast normally, but not only is Disco Elysium an exception and sitting at the very first spot on my (admittedly, rather short) rating of all-time favorite games, I also consider it one of my favorite works of art in general and, I do not say this lightly, literature. The story itself is absolutely incredible. It is simultaneously brutally …

DO NOT PAY FOR THIS GAME! It has been STOLEN from its original creators by the evil corporate owner ZA/UM, who is the publisher here on Steam! While I highly recommend this game, obtain it from anywhere else except official means. I bought it while it was on sale, but even then, I now regret giving even a cent to this disgusting company who has screwed over the creatives who worked so hard on Disco Elysium. Disco …

Right, I need to warn you about Disco Elysium because honestly, playing it is like losing your virginity - afterwards, everything else is just a bit... disappointing. And I'm not being dramatic here. Well, I am, but I'm also right. You're a detective. You've got a murder to solve. Simple enough, yeah? Except you wake up in a trashed hotel room with no memory, no trousers, and a horrifying realization that you've …

Disco Elysium. A game about Communism, Capitalism, Liberals, Unions, Social Democracy, Monarchism, Genocide, Suicide, Natural law, Empathy and Hope. It shows us how stubborn old men cling to their past and pride, allowing the long gone days to dictate their very belief's and words and taint them with hate and fanaticism. It shows us how young credulous souls suffer in silence because the adults who promised to built …

I find myself coming back here sometimes when I feel like sh!t, so I strongly advise you to try it if you're going through a difficult period, the game has power to make it easier. Without exception, I would recommend it to everyone. It's written with remarkable depth, thoughtfulness, and beauty. If you haven't played this before, you absolutely must try it. This is one of the best video games ever made. FYI, if you …

79% of the 276 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Disco Elysium - The Final Cut. The complaint that keeps coming up: some technical issues like lag and bugs. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game can be downloaded for free from the internet archive, after it was uploaded by the game creators. Don't buy it, the current rights owners are not giving the creators any money, and they've followed a completely dishonest set of practices, which is ironical considering the game themes. If you need more information on this, search for info online, there's dozens of articles.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredible game-- don't buy it, the wretched moneymen forced the devs out of their own studio
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disco Elysium is one of the greatest games ever made. That is exactly why I cannot recommend giving money to the current ZA/UM. This game is a miracle. The writing, the politics, the sadness, the humor, the humanity, the entire decaying soul of Revachol. All of it came from artists who built something genuinely irreplaceable. And then, in the most grotesquely Disco Elysium plot twist imaginable, the people behind that miracle were pushed out of their own creation while the corporate shell…

It's a cruel irony that this commentary is in the game itself given how horrible the company treated its original writers. Amazing game, horrible company. Don't give ZA/UM a cent. Stealing a group of people's life work with the loopholes of capitalism isn't a crime by the law, but it's a sure way to get people to boycott anything this company will ever make.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off: The corpos running ZA/UM, the studio that made this game, have basically gotten rid of half the driving creative forces behind this game and our now just holding the rights hostage. So if there was ever a reason to sail the seven seas or check out dubious keysellers, this is it. No money you spend on this game will reach the people who actually deserve it. Do with this information what you want. On the positive side the devs that left are starting new studios that you might want…

ZA/UM is now an evil company who is profiting greatly off the game they stole while the original devs who actually made the amazing piece of art that Disco Elysium is aren't seeing a penny and have been royally screwed by ZA/UM And ZA/UM has the absolute GALL to plaster ads for their rip-off "spiritual successor" game, Zero Parades For Dead ZA/UM Exec-- I mean, Dead Spies, on the title and pause screens for this game--…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really good and fun game (understatement of the century, it's beautiful and definitely one of the best games ever made). dont buy it though. the money wont go to the actual developers, it'll go to the ghouls that took over their company. find another way to play it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY! Game and Development Studio got stolen with fraudulent methods from the original devs and creators. But it is a really good game so if you find ways to play it without buying it from these criminals then do that
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get me wrong, this is one of my favorite games of all time. I quite enjoy when games obfuscate goals and force you to just, play it. but pirate this one and dont give money to the rat bastards who own the IP

neutral · AI labelView post →It's a fantastic game! Can't wait to progress further through it, although I believe it will take me ages to acutally finish it. The writing is wonderful, the artwork extremely well-fitting and the depth is out of this world. By the way: Today (Dec. 25th 2025) the game is free on a platform that starts with "E" and ends in "pic". For those that don't want to throw their money at the people that scammed the original creators.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is, without a doubt, one of the best games of all time. This review is negative because the current owners of the intellectual property have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over the actual creators. The actual creators have uploaded it to the internet archive for free. Go get it there instead of buying it on Steam.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pirate it. It's on Internet Archive. Don't support the publisher or any of their work. ZA/UM is a den of thieves and swindlers, who would sooner sell out its own founders to vulturous investors than remain an art collective as it was founded. Support Kurvitz and look into the situation, play the game without purchasing, and condemn ZA/UM. It's an amazing game if you love political dramas, dark comedies, absolutely stunning art and writing, and point & click narratives, otherwise, and is one…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best written game I have ever played, and more subjectively, probably the best written piece of fiction I ever encountered. That being said; Play this, but don't buy it. The original devs have been pushed out of the studio by greedy investors, barring the original team from continuing dignified work on the IP they poured blood, sweat & tears into.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself, I highly recommend. It's a fantastic narrative RPG with writing that can drift perfectly between comedic, tragic, poignant, and political, and it kept me hooked the whole way through. The world itself is fantastically interesting, a blend between french, eastern-european and general-soviet vibes, with rich history and worldbuilding just begging for you to dive in. It can feel overwhelming at times, but that's intentional; you're an alcoholic drug-addicted amnesiac, and the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Disco Elysium controversy centers on a bitter legal and corporate battle over the game's intellectual property (IP) and creative control, following the sudden departure of its original creators from studio ZA/UM in late 2021 and early 2022. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely a unique game with lots of lore, characters and reflections on mankind. Lots of dialogues and texts and minor roleplay. Only thing I disliked is the possibility to get softlocked in many advanced parts of the game. Unfortunately this is not the optimal way to play it. The original creators were let go and scattered to the wind by upper management in a move that is straight out of the game they made. Luckily I received this copy from a friend and didn't pay for it, but I really can't help but feel as though paying for this product when none of the money goes to the original…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So first of all: F*** greedy ZAUM. Second of all: So wholesome, amusing, detailed.. so tragic, disastrous, heartwrecking.. so much to read and think about. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly don't like this kind of dialogue-heavy game. Even in the dozens of RPGs I've played, I rarely paid that much attention to dialogue. Partly because some games subject you to endless walls of text, and partly because, when it comes to role-playing, the characters I create tend to have this attitude of, "Something happened in the world? Cool. Not my problem." But Disco Elysium... Wow. Just wow. Good lord. I don't think I've ever read this much text in a game before. And why?…

It's just one of those games man, you gotta go in blind. If there's any game you can go in blind for ever, let it be this one. This is as good as it gets in this department. Absolute cinema. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good super niched game, but please do not buy it anymore. The current co-owner, Tõnis Haavel, was convicted of investment fraud back in 2015. He and his partner siphoned 4.8 million euros directly from the studio's budget through a shell company to illegally buy out the majority shares and kick out the original creators. Buying this game now only lines the pockets of corporate thieves. More about this fraud you can find on Google.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the best game I've ever played, and there will never be another one like it, but that's BECAUSE of the frauds posing as ZA/UM now. The "OUR new game" thing on the title screen is especially dishonest. This is one of the rare cases where getting the game through alternative means is actually helping the creators of the game. Don't buy this, but do, please, play it, if you ever get the chance. One of a kind.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is wonderful but do not support these thieves, support the OG creators of this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, it's a great game. Unfortunately, the people who actually made this incredible work of art were pushed out of Zaum, the currents rights holder. Disgusting, shameful, and unjust.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PIRATE this game. It is absolutely amazing and well-made, but unfortunately the original creators have had this game stolen from them and they will not be earning anything from people buying this from steam. I unfortunately bought this game before the issue about the company was put into light and can no longer refund the game.

I will always return and experience this absolute master piece If I'm able. One of the great tragedies of capitalist greed was robbing us of an official sequel. I can only hope we are graced with a worthy successor.
