What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 88 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (105 of 134 positive).
Players praise the game's charm, fun grapple mechanics, and creative level design. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note issues with floaty controls, wall-jump detection, and occasional bugs. [4][5][6] Several players consider it a hidden gem that deserves more attention despite its flaws. [7][3][8]

Initially, I was really enjoying this game, as a relatively easy action platformer with a quirky personality and sense of humor. I enjoyed the goofiness, even if occasionally it the game sometimes insults your intelligence a bit on the "case." The control scheme for one of the main abilities feels like it was designed for a single-stick joystick, rather than double-stick joystick. It's regularly a bit of an …

This is an absolutely fantastic sidescrolling action title that EASILY ranks among the best of the current era. What we have here is a game that's oozing style, charm, and humor; it's got creative characters and fun dialogue; adds a novel investigation system into it's super-solid platforming-and-brawling core; and last but certainly not least, has some of the most-satisfying, most-intuitive -- most …

Double Cross it's a very good game and it's a shame it has so few reviews. There are some flaws: the movement isn't very fluid, the momentum after a jump it's a bit difficult to control, the story is pretty simple and the game is a bit too short. However, these flaws are probably due to budget limits, because the game was clearly made with a lot of love: the characters design is fantastic, the music is very good and …

This game to me is the definition of a hidden gem!! I loved the concept and I think they do a lot to take advantage of the alternate dimensions idea! I would have liked to see more worlds but I understand it was an indie game with probably a small budget and I'm satisfied with what we got! The art is very charming and I enjoyed getting to know all the characters in your home base. It felt very rewarding, since they …

Charming platformer with decent variety and super fun grapple mechanics! A little rough around the edges, but a good time none the less! The grapple mechanics add some nice momentum to the platforming, and the combat is just deep enough to provide a nice change of pace every now and then. I absoutley adored that the dodging mechanic was integrated into the level design as well as the combat, and while not every …

82% of the 88 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Double Cross. The complaint that keeps coming up: floaty or unresponsive controls. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Double Cross received mixed to somewhat positive reviews upon its release. Critics lauded the platforming aspect and the varied level design, but heavily criticized the mystery-solving aspect and the combat structure, which many believed to be dull and repetitive. On the review aggregation website Metacritic, the game holds a score of 67 based on 22 reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews". Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received fair approval, being recommended by 41% of critics. Heidi Kemps of GameSpot gave the game a 6/10, calling the proton slinger mechanic "special" and "a lot of fun", praising the move's effectiveness and especially the time slowdown,…

60 of 136 · most liked firstedit. After going back after completion and using a controller instead of mouse/keyboard, I updated a few points of my review as this enhanced the experience. I picked up this game blindly at launch without knowing anything about it. I have been playing a lot of 2D platformers lately and this one looked interesting. For those in a similar situation, the game is a 2D action platformer and not a metroidvania or something in that vein. You have a "hub" base with a few rooms and NPCs and then go…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got the game dirt cheap from a bundle site and expectations were non-existent but i am glad i bought this one as it's worth it's asking price when bought from the store if you are into light hearted games where character learns new tricks along with challenging platforming. Challenge does not go all the way up to Super Meat Boy levels but you do notice that sometimes it would be nice to have floor underneath you as you spend quite a lot of time jumping between walls and trying to reach hard to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just doesn't feel particularly impressive, but the most disappointing element is just how bland the story and world design is. The environments are very flat, which is normal for a two dimensional game but it's flat in that the visuals lack a sense of depth to them. Yet at the same time the visual and backgrounds are designed in a way that's meant to suggest depth, yet it still feels flat. Which together gives the world a very shallow, unrefined sensation to it. Furthermore the environments…

I tried holding a direction whilst doing them, and not, and the accurcy of them is pretty pathetic. jumping is very flaoty, running is very floaty,- little to no control in the air. 2 - the game runs VERY badly. Whaty do I mean by this? camera lurching forwards inch by inch as you move in a straight line ( it should really stay centered on your character at ALL times, not the way it…

There's 3 worlds with 4 levels each, 3 standard levels then a boss level. It doesn't break up or spice up gameplay enough through each world. Every level is just platforming lined with little arena wave fights, Which would be fine if the platforming and fighting wasn't so basic. The arena/wave fights are always the same. Each world has about 3 enemies that it throws at…

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a pretty good game for fans of platformers, took me six hours to complete, collecting about half the collectible items I believe. The game certainly needs some polish and quality of life changes, such as better detection for wall jumps, adjusted hitboxes of certain damaging obstacles, fixing whatever bug makes it so some inputs just don't seem to register. Overall a positive and fun experience, but, if they can iron out some of the random issues, this would be a very solid platformer.

You do unlock skills, you even have levels and permanent upgrades from these, but maps are mostly linear and you don't really need all these skills to beat them. They just make things easier and a few upgrades are required to get specific achievements. But ultimately, you don't need any of them. So, it's a nice platformer with fun action elements. It's Japanese game about playing people infected with 'The renegade virus' that manifests in the form of super-powers, but comes with a risk of the virus going rampant and turning you into a monster. There's a fun push your luck mechanic to avoid this.
positive · AI labelView post →Definite recommend. While it doesn't do anything particularly groundbreaking or outstanding, the game feels quite nice to play once you get used to the controls a bit. The art is good, the animations especially are very smooth. The music is solid. The story is quaint, mostly consisting of interacting with cast of very unique-looking and stylised characters; it rarely overstays its welcome, serving largely as a break between levels, while being interesting enough not to make you want to skip it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I’m going to lead off with this game should have gotten more attention than it did. It’s good. It’s got it’s flaws, but it’s a good complete experience that I enjoyed from start to end, with the exception of world 3. Combat can basically be described as ‘spam attack and dodge’ which can lead to multiple scenes of simply waiting for the waves of enemies to end so you can get back to the fun platforming. But the story was well crafted and kept me intrigued, and the side plots among the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did enjoy my time with this game, but don't get me wrong, I don't think it's worth your time. At least, not at full price. Combat is too basic, levels feels too repetitive (except maybe three of them feels different?) I did enjoy the story at first, I didn't expect a "detective" game thrown in with the 2D platformer system. I just wished both were more developed, they feel way too basic. It would have probably benefited from a more metroid-vania structure than a linear one. Also the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Cross is undoubtedly a good game. It features good level design, fun characters, and extra stories make this title all the more endearing. One can really tell that 13AM Games has fun with this game which is always a good sign. If not for the slightly less responsive control when compared to other platformers and some small polishing issues, I strongly believe that this game has the potential to go further beyond. This is an excellent game that oozes with love and filled with heart from…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's a surprisingly smooth platformer with good level design and gameplay mechanics. Seemed janky at first because of some weird frame drops, but that went away pretty fast. Boss fights are a bit easy tbh. hardest one for me was Ripjaw, because I had forgotten you could dodge lol. You're an officer on a spaceship solving crimes by finding evidence in different dimensions? Okay that sounds cool when I say it like that, but the thing is this is a platformer that FEELS like it could have been a metroidvania but I can assure you, you'll spend more time wanting the characters to shut up. The gameplay gimmick for this one is a grapple that allows you to grab onto things. But everytime…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have never seen so much polish put on something so broken. Character designs are great. Art is clean and has a definite appeal. Writing is suitably amusing at a kid-friendly level. Too bad the level design and controls are absolutely horrible. This game wants to be Super Meat Boy. It wants to challenge you with difficult wall-jumping-grapple-slinging segments. Thing is, a well-designed platforming challenge has a certain "flow" to it that you eventually latch onto and follow through.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not completely worthless, but it's kind of boring. Its biggest problem is that it's too darn easy: puzzles are usually very easy to solve; combat is simplistic, button-mashy, and over quickly, and this includes the bosses; and the only occasionally challenging part, using the laser grappling hook, nearly always allows a lot of chances to correct mistakes you might make. The plot aspect is no worse than any other family-friendly game like this, but the "system" of gathering and analyzing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It kind of plays like a hybrid of Guacamelee! and Grapple Force Rena, except without the depth of either of their core gameplay mechanics. Still, there's an abundance of charm, creative aesthetics, and attention to detail on display here and I can recommend this to anyone who needs something refreshing to pass the time.

It's a Japanese system with more of a "dark 2000's thriller anime" flair, but it focuses on modern superhumans fueled by a mutant virus!

positive · AI labelView post →It's a design philosophy difference, most likely. If you play Japanese TTRPGs (the best example I have on hand is Double Cross, but it's old) it's trying to appeal to busy businessmen who want to roleplay being an anime. If they sold it as the FFXIV board game, I think that'd be more accurate.
