What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 47 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (55 of 69 positive).
Players praise the game's unique and refreshing concept of exploring linked dreams. [1][2][3] Many appreciate the old-school JRPG style, engaging story, and charming characters. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note frustrating backtracking and lack of direction as drawbacks. [7][8][9]

Dispite being mostly a good game, I cannot continure playing it due to a game breaking bug in JAG 12, basically preventing the game from letting you past that one point. EDIT: Found the problem, but you have to run into the wall to the left of the starting point first, a bug that can really break the game.

Dreamscape (DSC) is quite a unique and refreshing game. You are lost in dreams and need to escape (and rescue your boyfriend in the process). But the path is far from linear - in order to progress in one dream you often need to do or get something in another one. This makes the different dreams "linked", and since each of them feel very distinct, the frequent "jumping" helps feel the game various and enjoyable. …

This is quite possibly the most interesting and well done RPG maker game I have ever seen. The story is pretty good. The non linear design is exception, but slightly frustrating at times. The game is difficult and with the additional game modes it has pretty good replay value. For the player who misses old school RPGs, and is tired of all those 2 hour half baked RPG maker games I definitely suggest you check out …

a Little gem if there ever was one, with how shovel-ware games are pumped out on the steam store it has been no surprise finding small indie games that are all trash thats been pumped out to mil money, yet this was not the case with this little gem. The story line isnt too major, but it is decent enough to enjoy. You are lost in dreams which you need to escape whilst trying to save your boyfriend, yeah this time …

Summarised from 34 of the 78 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
79% of the 47 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Dreamscape. The complaint that keeps coming up: too much backtracking and vague direction. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

neutral · AI labelView post →This most recent offering on Steam from Aldorlea confirms again that these developers are at the top of the list of those making the old school/adventure style games. Dreamscape has everything a fan of these games could want, and much more. As always, these games are driven by the story, and, IMO, Aldorlea always has this element perfected. In the game you are Erin ---- who is on a mission to save her boyfriend. Sounds simple enough, but to accomplish this seemingly straightforward task she…

The plot the game set out for you is pretty cool a lone girl trying to save her love one and on the way she meet his cat that can now talk mind you she has lil witty thing to say at time but it being in this imagination world that just something small and many bigger thing to come. As any RPG the main thing to look…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OK, I have to admit that I was fully prepared to hate this game. It came in a bundle, and the description made me cringe. I went through every other game and decided I would give it a try. Turns out, I'm glad I did. This is the only game I have ever been tempted to play through a second time! Mechanics are easy to follow like most RPG maker games. Money isn't wasted on constantly buying potions etc because of the drop system. Story and characters are a blast! It took me roughly 17 hours…

The story is simple: your boyfriend catches you in your imagination with magical headphones, you have to free him, Some humor in the dialogues, surprising characters. If you finish the game you unlock a foreign character(from another 2D RPG) and have him in your party for a 2nd walktrough at another mode. You explore each character’s dream. My gameplay advices: find the easiest dream on monsters to start with or you’ll feel stuck. You have to pick a…

neutral · AI labelView post →There's something about Dreamscape that's different than most RPGs, especially as an indie title. So far, I've unlocked 4 of the playable characters and all of them are completely different. And I do mean COMPLETELY different, which is really awesome. The story is as simple as the main character searching for her boyfriend that's gone missing, but the story is so compelling that it really is the journey that is more important than the destination. Logistically, this game has unique features…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like with the Millennium series, this game is well done and a real tribute for JRPG of the 16-bits era. The characters are lovable and the story unfold at a good pace. Since I'm a cat lover (don't worry I'm also a dog lover), having one as a playable character is a treat. As of now, I'm still in the process of beating the game so I can't say how long the game is, but Aldorlea has given us good games worthy of our money so far and I doubt this one is any exception. Hope they keep up the good…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a fun and light game. Dreamscapes are very interenting and open vide range of odd and funny possibilities, which are used by the makers in this game. Even though I wished there would be more companion characters, it doesn't mean i didn't like them. Specifically crafted set of abilities and usable items for each character allows you to use startegy during fights and brings a number of chuckles when you find new items. I vwry much liked unique system of replenishing helath and mana. It…

neutral · AI labelView post →Dreamscape suffers a lot from inconsistent design. For example, the game mostly limits healing to random food items on the ground that must be used immediately (there is a free heal in the hub area, but using it locks out certain rewards). Initially, this forced a lot of annoying backtracking. A few hours in, I can now buy healing items at shops for paltry sums of money - is this supposed to negate the healing problem, or is there something else the game hasn't told me about? Being able to…

neutral · AI labelView post →In general it is good however my issue with the game is: * Not enough indications to what items should be used for specific areas. * Too much backtracking that I think you need a guide to finish the game - I used one to finish it -. But all in good work has been done on this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this when the grand RPG maker shovelware apocalypse happened and everything was on sale. Its got about 15 hours of gameplay for one playthrough, with four difficulty modes. I think the intent is that you play it once on each, but I don't see how someone could stand that. Its a pretty neat take on a JRPG though. Encounters don't respawn, Most are mobile and can be avoided and the rest are static and must be fought to physically progress. The characters are cute and the game play is…

neutral · AI labelView post →After an hour i felt like this game wasn't going anywhere. The game is fairly non-linear, which would have been a good thing if there was a map and some indication of what you're doing. There are a number of impassable objects that block your path at certain points and x-type blocks that you can't destroy yet, but other than that it's very vague. Do you go into this mind or that mind? Who knows? It doesn't help that the "enemy threat indicator" (three different colours) is completely useless. A…

And I've played some really good games, and really bad games. This one is a solid 8/10. If anything bad can be said about the game is that its a little too open, and very little direction is given. I was able to win the game in about 15 hours, which if I had spent the total retail price I would have been bummed. I got this game on a Steam Sale. I have enjoyed a lot of other Aldorlea Games, but this is my least favorite. I don't see myself replaying this game :(

Your character is a glutton who eats everything off the ground. Find bread for the first time, this heals people, *down the hatch!* you weren't missing hp and now you know what the item does...this happens every new food item and you cannot store them. Got poisoned for the first time, "cherries cure poison" or walk back to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game after playing 3 really bad RPGs in a row and it was a nice breath of fresh area. It is different than your average RPGMaker game in that it is part adventure game and part RPG. See early on you end up in this dreamscape, and are given the goal of figuring out how to get out of it. From there you have to explore and figure out how to progress. Some may find that off putting it but it reminded me of older Sierra games, especially Quest for Glory. Personally I liked trying to…

It's still no Millennium series or The Book of Legends, but I think it was a solid challenge and a bunch of fun. This is another relatively story-light game. If you do that you unlock a party member for future runs of the game, but also it just…
