What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 183 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (2,919 of 3,346 positive).
Some reviewers praise the humor and familiar gameplay, while others find the jokes repetitive. [1][2][3] Several posters criticize the lack of faction synergy and weaker traps compared to previous games. [4][5][6]

I've played through all of dungeons 3 and all of dungeons 4. I found 3 to be significantly more enjoyable than 4, primarily in gameplay. In 4 there's not enough synergy to justify having units from multiple factions, the units don't work in the dungeon so there isn't much use for them outside of fighting, the evilness system in 4 is not nearly as enjoyable as it is in 3. The improvements to graphics is negligible at …

worse than dungeons 3, better than all the others, game's much harder, but unlike some people say, the game does not give you the illusion of choice, if you want to go completionist tho, then yea sure i guess, if you cannot "choose" what faction to use in every story chapter, thats user issues, not game issues... that said, game's definitely worse than dungeons 3, factions feel much weaker, buildings are unlocked …

The base game is fantastic! An upgrade to the third one in every single way with the similar humor and gameplay only ramped up with additional "lore" and story and units. They reduced the grind with traps and made it only cost the boxes rather than enchanted ones. Although they have reduced the number of traps sadly and the enemy AI is still braindead not really an rts like AI as they just walk in a straight line to …

Really enjoy this game. Very reminisant of the old favorite Dungeon Keeper which I loved back in the day.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So if you would play through the franchise you would notice that the devs try to always upgrade the graphics, step up the writing and humor. Update the avatars of units and I can go on... However somewhere along the way, something happened and unfortunately compared to the previous installment, the changes made here were more of a downgrade. When I played Dungeons 3 I really had this feeling like if I was almost back in the day going through Warcraft Reign of Chaos or Frozen Throne... but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So dungeons 2, 3 and 4 are all the same game with minor improvements that are barely noticeable, i bought this as a safe buy a funny dungeon maker thats relaxing to kick back and play, but in this installment theyve just cranked up the intensity by 400% so its not relaxing anymore, back with dungeons 3 i couldnt wait to try new builds and strategies but with this game i really cant find motivation to get back into it to stress about it and finish campaign. So what went wrong? firstly they…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels kinda meh. The writing and characters work for a lot of people, but the setup is not doing much for me. I think I liked it in the earlier games, but right now it feels forced and formulaic. The novelty had worn off. Gameplay wise, I'm not really enjoying it. First the game does some simple missions to introduce the factions, fine... Then you get to play with all of them, and it doesn't feel like there's a lot of synergy or utility to it. Feels sensible to focus and upgrade just one. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dungeons 3 was superior in almost every way. this is what happens if core ideas are neglected and someone comes in with his own bright ideas to move this inch by inch away from success. i kept playing dungeons 3 rather than playing this. until today that is when their launcher constantly keeps reopening instead of opening the game. tha kalypso launcher is a joke anyways. not in the history of games has any gamer liked those launchers and accounts he has to open just to play. there are versions…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So this game is bad, and here is why: The campaign gives you the illusion of choice. Horde, Demons, or Undead? Sounds great—until you realize every mission is clearly designed around a specific faction. Play the way the developers intended, or prepare to get absolutely wrecked. Traps are basically decoration. In Dungeons 3, you could magically upgrade them and turn your dungeon into a death machine. Here? They're about as threatening as a wet napkin. Why remove one of the best features from…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a fan of Dungeon Keeper and Warcrafts when I was a kid. I was excited to play through Dungeons 3. I bought Dungeons 4 on sale. I like it less in every way than the 3rd. I think it doubles down on some of the worst parts of the third and updates to the format all cut against what I like about this kind of game. I'm 11 hours in and requested a refund. Some examples of elements and rated by comparison to third game: Research trees: clunky and confusing Visuals: Shinier, brighter, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a theory. At this point I have played 3 German fantasy RTS games. It isn't much, but 3 is the smallest number needed to draw some sort of correlation. And my theory is that the German RTS developers, while trying to replicate Warcraft 3, keep failing and instead they throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Spellforce failed at implementing an ARPG system into an RTS game. And Dungeons 4 failed at being either a good game, or a funny game. This game is a product, in the saddest…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing Dungeons 3 and really enjoying that game I figured Dungeons 4 would hit home. While I would still recommend this game as an above average experience it was not as good as its predecessor.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just get Dungeons 3 instead, it's mechanically better in every possible way. Basically everything they've changed from 3 is mainly for the worse, adding gratuitous micro management without really offering any benefits in return. For instance, while in 3 you could manage to build a dungeon that can't be conquered in the campaign missions, in 4 the health of the waves scale infinitely and quickly. They start off on even footing with your units, around 200 hitpoints, but before long they have…

neutral · AI labelView post →- Story is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrendous, humor is non-existent and overly ironic - Evilness rework is annoying - Resource management is more annoying - Visually looks better than 3 (Only improvement AT ALL from the first game) - No good combat controls or hotkeys (like selecting 1 specific type of unit or 1 individual, like an RTS which this is trying to hybridize as) - Tech tree is also even worse - Demons need evilness AND mana, undead can summon a few 'minions' for dps, but are otherwise overall…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Greetings! Today we’ll be looking at Dungeons 4, pretty much the only real ‘dungeon builder’ out there right now (please, where is Evil Genius 3). I’ve always loved this series (sans that one where they tried to do spawn points) and I was excited to play this, especially after the demo. Did the rest of the game hold up? Let’s discuss! The Floating Discombobulated Overlord: This game is more or less what you got from previous titles, just with the natural progression of ‘more.’ You get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very enjoyable main game. First DLC the good, the bad and the evil is lots of fun too but don't waste your money on the second expansion, 'Not another multiverse' It is so full of bugs that the it is completely unplayable and I think it is very unethical of the creators to be selling it at all in it's current. non functional state. Seriously guys. Fix it or withdraw it from sale, it's just ripping people off.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: + Continues with the basic formula of Dungeons 3. + Decent challenge with elite hero groups flooding into your dungeon from multiple entrances. + Fun upgrade items to find. + Fun risk versus reward of digging for secrets in the dungeon too early. + Seems to run on Linux/Proton reasonably well. + Co-op multiplayer support works well enough for us to have done the whole campaign as a duo. Cons: - Unnecessary launcher. It adds nothing to the game, it looks ugly, and makes it slower to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worse game play, worse story, worse graphics. WTF is this camera angle? Stick with earlier Dungeons games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR It's a sad game, dungeon management is the entire concept of this game and there is no game here in that regard. So, this game is a huge downgrade from Dungeons 3. It's oversimplified, with very little nuance to management of your dungeon. It's a very railroaded game with regards to your choice in dungeon rooms. You still get efficiency from doors and fully walled rooms. But that's the end of organization skills. You don't need your monsters to power specific rooms, nor do you require…

neutral · AI labelView post →At first I really disliked Dungeons 4, because the developers took out the mechanic I really enjoyed: monsters used to work (at least in Dungeons 2 and 3). It made every monster feel needed in a way. I also found the start of this campaign really boring — it might be chalked up to me choosing Impossible difficulty, though after lowering it, the game became bearable. Despite this, when I finally understood the idea of snots doing all the work and creatures being there just to fight, the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like Dungeon Keeper from the old days you can get this without any thoughts. You will have fun building a dungeon and slaying heroes. Gameplay is fun, slapping workers is fun, slaying heroes is fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and satisfying to play. Simplified RTS + Simplified town management with fun theme. I recommend playing Dungeons 3 and 4. Lighthearted story with self-aware sense of humour. I find this game very relaxing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. Lost 3 lvl 3 nagas to a rain because they couldn't go through portal. Did everything perfectly, didn't have problems with Dungeons 3 portal spell. How did they make something like going through a portal so weirdly hard, where do i click, why sometimes they don't go through portal, why part of creatures did go through and others were walking around. Deleted the game. 2. They also didn't add that much to the game since last one. Ruined one manual trap by decreasing it's damage by a lot and…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would not recommend this at full price. While the writing and voice-work is up to standards, there is a game play problem. There are unlockable skills in the campaign which require you to do something on a timer. The first time you play that scenario, especially if you are not familiar with all your units/rooms/research and need to read about them (which you CAN'T do while paused, you must read unit/research descriptions in real time) is going to be difficult. You likely won't be able to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dungeons 2 is still the best in my opinion for being polished enough while having distinct seperate races of the horde. Having a hodgepodge is not as much fun as a dedicated undead or demonic army. That being said Dungeons 4 carries on the tradition -- solid voice acting with a few real laughs, a cozy atmosphere and predictable gameplay that fans will enjoy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →normal is hard because it screws you over on other things in some quest.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can, and CANNOT recommend this game. I GENUINELY love this game, and will support it as I go. I will buy the content, but for those that are really pushed away by bugs, do NOT get this game. I love the series, but it's been bogged down by a series of bugs that have really been... Ubiquitous through almost all of the games in the series. Controls over buffs/spells/potions: 1) If you cast spells too fast, they don't fire. You actually need to wait for an arbitrary 1 second cooldown. This…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet another excellent game to continue the story. Cheeky narrator, reference to different movies or games and a good story to go with it. 4 different difficulty levels to fit any gamer. Be it just a relaxing playthrough or hardcore with blood and sweat.

neutral · AI labelView post →It's just Dungeon Keeper but with less game mechanics, a sad RTS portion slapped on, and a enough cheesy one-liners to make me sick. I LOVE games like Dungeon Keeper and War for the Overworld. I adore the occasional cheesy one-liner or wink to the player like in the Orcs Must Die series. But THIS is just WAY too much. I get that it has a dedicated fanbase. And I'm really happy for those people. But I can't stomach this. I'm sorry.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the writing in this game is so bad it makes me want to watch deadpool

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →evilness is need to upgrade anything, gotta kill things on the overworld to do that, leads to a feedback loop unless you get up there with speed leaving you undefended just sort of worse then the 3rd one
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →did you like 1, 2 and 3? Well... then play 4 xD It's just the same game again with some more polish to the graphics (absolutely love this clay-ish style) and a newer (and better) upgrade menu. Along with tiny little extra's.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the cheapest compagnie in the game world, they give you a little campaign, and 10 others maps that's it, it take me like 10 hours to pass everything. I was hoping they will bring some maps later or sometigng but no. that's the end. Lol.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too easy. Gets boring by mission 3 or 4.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the whole campaign and it really was so underwhelming. There was so much more that could be done with the game that wasn't done. The story was hollow and flat. It was predictable and really had so many avenues it could go down. Was far too linear and the further you got into the game the more you almost wanted it to be over.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy dungeon 3 gameplay and humor, then give dungeon 4 a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game was pretty fun and great but that lave hill level ruined the entire campaign experience
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →18) Dungeons 4 It seemed like a monumental task following up the previous Dungeons game in terms of humor & presentation, but they sure as hell pulled it off! A wonderfully goofy, sarcastic RTS dungeon builder where you play as the evil overlord while Kevan Brighting narrates and berates your work.
positive · AI labelView post →GAME IS A DISAPPOINTING SCAM MADE TO BAIT NOSTALGIA AND INTEREST EVEN BUYING THIS ON SALE IS STILL A WASTE OF MONEY. Buying this was a mistake. Graphics are slightly better when it comes to details, but the lighting and shaders are just eye-plucking bad. Unit controls feel very wonky, even worse than Dungeons 3; no "Attack" command, common for ALL mainstream RTS games. Annoying and weird compared to Dungeons 3 resource management. Removed old units "Spiders," changed to a flying chicken. The…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dungeon 4 is a downgrade from dungeon 3. it's good in all but if you want to really want your money worth, I suggest playing dungeon 3 instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a lot of fun playing trough the campaign, I enjoy playing as the bad guy building up my forces and smashing the good guys. The mechanics are solid and I liked the management of my dungeon. The raids of the surface and painting the map in darkness was really satisfying. Now for some cons, the tone of the game is to light for my taste. Personally I would like to see a more grimdark tone. Secondly the jokes are very repetitive, at first I had a few laughs but it quickly became tiring to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After more than 400 hours with Dungeons 4, I can confidently say it is one of the most enjoyable base-building strategy games I’ve played. It builds on the foundations of Dungeons 3, which was already excellent, but refines the gameplay and pacing in ways that make the whole experience smoother and more engaging. The campaign also continues the series’ trademark humour, giving the story a light, entertaining tone that keeps things fun between missions.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cons: - Thalya's voice is obnoxious - No DLSS support - Requires it's own launcher (what is this 2003?) - Essentially just a refresh of the previous game, they even make jokes about it in the voice overs. - Unstable (had to disable AV to get their stupid launcher to work and enabling v-sync destroys the fps)
