What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 107 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (110 of 171 positive).
Players praise the game's story and atmosphere, but warn it deals with heavy themes like sexual abuse. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the game unpolished, with bugs and frustrating instant death sequences. [4][5][6] A few players dislike the gameplay mechanics and find the horror elements lacking. [7][8][9]

I honestly wish I've never spent those 7$ If I could' I'd rather just donate those to charity or set flames to them. Because there is only so far you can use videogames as a medium for pushing whatever agenda you may have. But if you want me to rate the "game" aspects, so here goes. -Shoehorned "horror" via meager jumpscares. -Below average graphics, especially for a game made with UDK. -Unpolished and bugged, …

Sorry, but the whole game is ruined for me by this stupid instant death sequences. They are just anoying and time consuming. And sometimes not even logical. I´m at the room with all the guns at the wall (5 tarot cards chapter). You are long out of the room when the guns fire and you still die? This is not only anoying, it´s complete nonsense. After you get through the death traps, there is the tarot card. But there …

First off, if you were a victim of rape, sexual abuse, child abuse, and/or any of above, it is best not to play this game. Steer clear from it. This will probably trigger your past moments. I know there are people in this world who are victims of such things, and playing this made it feel so real. I'm not kidding. Right. Now onto the review. Enola is a psychological story about your girlfriend named Angelica. You …

Being a psychological horror fan, I can never get enough of complex stories that need to be pieced together, spliced with dark tense atmospheric environments reflecting the nature of psychological despair. They're the kind of games I'm always on the hunt for, and the games from my youth that I miss the most. I bought Enola on a whim because it was described as a psychological horror, and I have to say, Enola …

Content Warning: If you, or a loved one, have ever experienced trauma regarding sexual assault or abuse, this game might not be for you. It is purposefully cruel in that it exploits the inherent darkness of love, trauma, redemption and revenge. 60 of 135 · most liked firstI watched Enola Holmes the other night. Gave it 3 stars with “cute!” as part of my review. That means it’s worth a watch. Similarly 7/10 isn’t bad, game fans.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Key provided free via Black Shell Media I want to start of with saying that the game isn't bad, it's not good either. If it were a bad game I could come into the reviews and talk about how the movement is clunky, or how a psychological horror should contain some horror, or how the story quickly became convolunted. If it were a good game I could praise the psychological aspect, that tackled questions of justified homicide, or the story-telling, which actually was fairly good despite the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am continually amazed at how story rich many games are becoming and I love it. This game, Enola, takes the narrative to whole new level. I wouldn't call it just a story though, nor just a mystery, or even just horror game either. It is a look at what happens when evil propagates in those who are the victims of evil. And it does it beautifully. I have found myself thinking about the meaning behind this game (and how often have I done that? Not a lot I can assure you) ever since I began playing…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It may be a little unpolished (though that is likely to change as the devs are actively updating and expanding the game). But anyone who wants to compare this game to Gone Home, Dear Esther, Myst, Silent Hill ... I think that's missing the point. Heck, I could add Alan Wake to the list for the 42 lamps (like the pages) to collect, and for the heavy flashlight usage. But I won't. This is primarily an exploration game, yes, but it features a dark plot with a load of sensitive issues that are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite all the positive reviews of Enola, my husband and I just ended up disappointed. The game is dark, and by that, I don't mean the tone (though that is pretty dark too). I mean even with the brightness all the way up, it's impossible to see where you're going in some parts. That wouldn't have been a deal breaker, but it means that navigating to the next part of the game becomes virtually impossible. We simply could not find our way no matter how much we looked around. Enola seemed okay…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i do not recommend this game. it is not worth $15 here i steam. i bought the game through Kinguin.com for less. thank god i can save some money. the game plot is about how Enola's girlfriend got raped by like 2 or 3 guys and Enola goes out for revenge. The "Monster" (monsters being rapists, murderers etc etc basically depicking Men in general) Boss Fight is basically a "quick time event" were it is a one sided fight. Enola slaps him around with the hammer while the "Monster" takes it while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enola is a game developed by The Domaginarium, and puts you into the shoes of Enola, the lover of Angelica, right before you go through an emotional, twisted, dark vortex. You will have to take on the projected world of Angelica as you learn what has happened to her, throughout her life, and what twists and pitfalls have shape her life to what it is today. This is not a game for the weak of heart, and this is definitely a game that deals with mature subjects. Graphically I have to say that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enola is touted as being, and I quote, a psychological adventure game that delves into the inherent darkness of love, death and revenge. Other reviewers claim the game to be both challenging, dark and emotional. Those reviews and this one prove one thing, everything is subjective and opinions are like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, in that we all have one. For those of you who trust my opinion and find it lining up with your own I will bring my recommendation for this game to the very front of this review to save…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to go ahead and say that I'll be doing a review when I actually beat the game as well. Enola is one of those games that isn't going to be remembered for it's graphics, or framerate, or anything really game related. Enola is a psychological horror game (to me at least so far) that's all about exploring the darkness of the mind of your girlfriend, Angelica, and discovering what the mind does to you after a series of terrible events. Without giving t much aware, Angelica went through some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story: Absorbing and cleverly written, vague enough at times that it makes you think. As expected for the genre, the subject matter is quite saddening and grotesque. And it is better not to tell anything more about it, because the more you know the less of an experience it will be to play. Graphics: Atmospheric and somewhat surreal in design, the game has some style. But technically it's a mixed bag. Some lightning effects and 3D models look really nice, but there are quite a few low…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Going to give this game a reccomended, not for it's gameplay, but for the idea of the game. It's very neat, but the game just...Can't make me immersed. The continuarity is almost non-existant. The level design needs work. There's no natural flow to the levels. We just kept...Going down and down. Also, a lot of bug testing needs to be done. Also, get rid of the Master Sword re-color in the elevator room. Seriously. That's enough about the negative, the positive would be this; Great looking for an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent the afternoon tidying my sewing space like I do after each major project and cutting a bunch of unsalvageable clothing into strips. Then I made J watch Enola Holmes 3 after the Nats game, which was stupid but cute (the movie) while I made my first go at rag weaving. Looks promising.
positive · AI labelView post →Needs an update from 1.05. The instructions for the number guessing were never displayed nor dictated. I found them in a youtube video instead. Crashes often, lots of bugs, items in inventory disappear sometimes and require that you go to a previous save. Windows 8.1, full patched, fresh install of Steam and this game 4 days ago for xmas. Interesting game, but utimately needs work to be playable...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enola has been a game I've been following for a long time. Ever since there was a playable build about two years ago. Now that is is finally released, I can already see the ammount of great changes and improvements. The team has come a long way with their game and everything from the factory yet natural type enviroments, to the atmospheric and down right spooky sounds and visuals, really play into the experience you get with Enola. It's not in your face like some horror games but it doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one is rather more mental than many. Primarily because you're in the mindscape of your beloved girlfriend. A heavily story-driven game, it turns up the what the hell factor very quickly, but manages it very well indeed. Enjoy! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=329886232
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the mature themes, but this is an inconstant, budget-quality adventure game. After several hours, I surrendered while being repeatedly crushed under a pillar. *CRUSHED UNDER A PILLAR* in a story-driven adventure game! Not cool!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great fun with a spooky atmosphere. If you are a fan of first person horror games, but think most indy games are a little thin, you won't be disappointed if you take the leap of faith and buy this one. Compelling story throughout.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amnesia in the light version, focused mainly on puzzles and discovering the story, fear you will not experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enola is a creepy and scary FPS horror game. It's got a brilliant story and fantastic atmosphere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW20iadWHAs This game will lure you in like a fish on a line and you'll be fooled into thinking that it's just a cool mellow horror game. Then, out of the blue the first scare hits you! I jumped out of my skin.... and it was still daylight outside. Also, unlike other games of this genre, in this one you can fight back! - Enjoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, I have never seen such a helpful developer in the community hub! Everytime I had to look up some parts that I was stuck at, the team had already answered the question. That's how you do it! Anyway, Enola is something that I have never played before. I love the old school graphics, even though I have the feeling that it can't really decide if it wants to be super good, or classic. While playing, I thought how fitting the "Shadow of Memories" graphics would have been for this game.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played what I believe to be the first two levels of this game. The storyline and setting is surreal and creepy. I quite enjoy this game. It very much feels like playing the exploration parts of a Silent Hill game. There are few or no monsters early on and while you can die, usually exploring is rewarded instead of punished. The game uses a save point system, which I don't particularly like but there are enough of them and they are easy to find (due to a sound clue in the game). The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First up, yes, this game does have some fairly "heavy" and/or "dark" themes that it explores. Get over it, boys and girls! Are we seriously at a stage in human development where art forms purporting to work in the "horror" genre need to wear kid gloves? For ♥♥♥♥'s sake. GROW UP. On to the next non-controversy, then... Yes, this is basically just a "walking simulator", with a couple of tricky puzzles, a bit of timing-based "trap" avoidance, a couple of enemies to outrun or hide from,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The negative reviews are valid criticisms of the sometimes glitchy video design, but the story is so compelling and the horror is top-notch. I felt it worth the price and the week or so in exploring this disturbing and creative world and story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay and graphics are a little rough, but great story and level design compensate these flaws.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is gonna be a short but semi in depth review now for the list of pros 1. Great puzzles 2. Great sound work 3. Great Voice acting 4. Game has a creppy fell to it 5. Great Story 6. Overall Very Fun Game To Play now for the only main con i run into its not big at all its just me nickpicking the only con is after a cutsence the game lags for a few secs I Give this game an 92 / 100 Its a game worth buying

neutral · AI labelView post →Nice and complicated story. Multiple endings. Every player can draw his own conclusions and give different explanations. One thing is sure that you will scare and feel the agony of the character. The negative in this game is the bad control which makes the game very difficult but also there are difficulties to complete the tasks. 5/10 Mediocre

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →~* Spoiler Free Review *~
Gameplay
The gameplay itself is fairly simple--assuming you use the guide. The puzzles were just challenging enough to be fun (for me, as a casual gamer), but I can't imagine playing without the guide and not getting frustrated, as many of the puzzles are not intuitive. Of course, if you're a hardcore gamer, you're probably going to have an easier time figuring things out, but I have a low frustration point and found the guide immeasurably useful. Beyond…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gone Home was a bad game. Enola is even worse. I got stuck inside a corner near a pirate ship and I couldn't move.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Smells like shovelware... A bit clunky, a bit unpolished, 100% not worth wasting time on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most bizarre, brutal, creepy atmospheric horror games of that time (2014). This game gave me chills at times and reminded me of Silent Hill. It's more of a walking simulator but is really well thought out and messed up for an indie game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the game for around 20 mins, wandering around aimlessly... gave up after realising i didnt care one bit about the story or characters... The level design is poor, very low quality assets used... overall game feels bland and lifeless.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/9686972/]Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this! This game has some good ideas, and every so often the glimmer of a great game peeks through the rough, but unfortunately the implementation is too much of a mess to recommend. In particular, the mapping is so poorly done that all the environments feel listless and empty, while simultaneously being very confusing. During my short attempt at playing, I constantly felt…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a tough one to review. The game tackles some difficult topics and handles them tactfully. But unfortunately that's the most positive thing that can be said. Granted, this game certainly gives you more hours than the average horror game on steam. But they weren't always worthwhile hours. The game started out strong but then after a while the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ started to creep in. And after a while, I felt the game just didn't respect the my time at all. For starters, the save system. It is…

And lots more on my Libby "for later" list because I bought a Libro.fm book recently.

neutral · AI labelView post →I'm not really sure if Enola is an asset flip. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here. On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they haven't credited any asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. There's no evidence, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up this game because of its trauma-inducing themes and inclusion of a queer relationship. I would only recommend Enola to those who are interested for the same reasons. The same-sex relationship aspect is handled quite well. It feels more matter-of-fact about it than most games and that's quite refreshing. There are some points where the queerness does matter, but it doesn't feel forced at all. The intense subject matter is what first drew me in. I'm unsure why I wanted to experience…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning!! This game might trigger you if you've been a victim of any sort of rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse, and/or child abuse. You play as a girl, Enola, who is probably in her late teens or early twenties. You start out in a house, but are quickly put into this surreal/macabre world where you are looking for (or at least to find out what happened to) your lesbian lover, Angelica. Along the way, you find out many bits of Angelica's traumatic past. Overall, it's a good idea with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics aren't the prettiest and the voice acting could be weird at times. But the plot and character depth make it an interesting game. Mechanics are mostly exploration and item finding. You get to make some moral choices in the game, too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Janky and edgy game about lesbians and sexual abuse. It's weird, usually this kind of game has terrible writing and good visuals.
