I've given this one a lot of thought and I honestly can't recommend it nor will I finish it. The art style is gorgeous. There's no question about how amazing it looks; its unique and stylized world is great. It has good music. Not sure if the story is any good since I only got the copper city, so I can't say anything about that. You ride a giant fox in a storybook world, very cool. The actual gameplay of this is …

There's nothing scarier than having to type a word that's not only ridiculously long, but one you can't even pronounce. If I had to sum up what I learned from this game in a single sentence, that would be it. But seriously, Epistory managed to surprise me on more than one occasion. I didn't expect much going in, mainly because I'm not usually a fan of typing games. However, it was far more than a simple typing game. …

This game is severely undercut by its lack of story telling skill. It's a visually stunning game, wildly creative, smooth, and very enjoyable to play. If I had to be specific though on the recommend I'd rate it a 3/5 with the knock really being for the delivery of the story itself, which had the opportunity to be told in a way that created a legendary game vs. just a cool one. Bought this for my 7 years old girl to practise her typing skills. Unfortunately this game is way too difficult for her and I have to take over to play. Nevertheless this is a great game. The story is cool and puzzles are reasonable. Some fights in the game are challenging but manageable if you know what to expect. Overall the game is quite enjoyable if you have a medium level of typing skills at least. Some of the achievements are a bit grindy. The main game takes about 7 hours to…

As a way to improve your typing, I don't think it's particularly effective compared to other methods. As a game it's only mildly entertaining. However there is another, probably unintended, application which I think this game actually excels wonderfully at: Foreign language learning. Hear me out: One of the most effective ways to actually acquire language is just huge amounts of exposure with different contextual cues. The outmoded conventional language learning approach assumes that we learn…

Epistory is a game that successfully combines an action adventure game with RPG elements and typing! Words appear over enemies and you must type the words as fast as you can to kill the enemies before they reach you. You are also given magical abilities; lightning, fire, ice and wind each with its own unique properties, i.e fire destroys the next word, ice freezes enemies, wind pushes enemies back and lighting can destroy words on other enemies. + Killing enemies rewards you with experience…

This game is very different than any game I have ever played. The game is very unique in how it is played, using typing as your weapon to combat foes. In addition to typing you have to switch back and forth in your typing powers to fight different foes or open different gates to advance the story and world. Points are also collected to unlock different portals or pieces of the world. You also have abilities that you can put points into, to train the abilities that you want to hone faster. The…

Id actually say it's a BIG MAYBE recommend. Really cute, cozy visuals with picture book, paper critters and environments. The movement isn't the best but you can eventually figure out how to maneuver. I love exploring each area but the map gets quite large as the game progresses and it wasn't very enjoyable to navigate or backtrack when i was looking for missing collectables, I think a mini map would have helped instead of only relying on the menu map. The voice acting and sound design I…

Just finished this game, and I will say - it's lovely, but it's not without its flaws. Let's start with what I liked: 1. Typing gameplay!! I've never played a game where typing was a core mechanic, so it was really fun 2. The puzzles were challenging, but it was the right amount of challenging. It took a little circling (literally, in some cases) but I was able to solve them 3. The voice acting is really good! 4. The art direction is really unique and cool. The origami aesthetic was really…

If you're a fast typist, this game will feel like second nature. If not, I highly recommend trying the demo first to test the waters and see if it's your cup of tea. It's not exactly cozy, but I enjoyed it immensely. The story was okay, but the visuals and the clever, engaging puzzles stood out the most for me. I even picked up a bunch of new words along the way, which was a nice bonus! All that's left for me to do now is the arena just to kill some time.

The gameplay is simple and easy to understand even for children to practice their typing. The art is good and the music also relaxing. great presentation, the world literally unfolds around you as you move around and spell stuff, but it's paired with an unimpressive story, some really hard but mostly optional tower defense-like hive sections and bugs galore. some puzzles are also frustrating but not as much as navigating on ice, and a bunch of quality of life is hidden behind xp-based upgrades. various difficulty settings are available, though adaptive can go below easy if you're a really slow typer. why the ♥♥♥♥ they didn't…

i just dont see how this game can have an overwhelmingly positive rating. Sure, there are good things, like the graphics being competent, the gamplay being what is promised and the feel of the magnitude of the map BUT... 1- the gameplay is always the same, you get some powers, you get some longer word enemies, there are some "puzzles" (theres never any doubt about what you have to do. This is a fun little adventure, but it probably won't make you any better at typing. The concept is inspired, if not an amalgam of disparate concepts, as you are a girl on a fox who is attacking insect nests by spelling words to proceed. The graphics and music are great, but I find the tired "narrator voice telling the story as you play" cliche kind of dull and dragged it down a bit for me, especially since there really isn't any story. Uncovering parts of the map is really well done, and the…

Beautiful art and fun typing game. It is a little simple, so it does drag for the last third of the game, but overall well worth the time spent. I started once, put the game away for a while, then restarted, so while Steam may say that I've played for seven hours, I'm guessing that one playthrough is closer to 5+ hours. I have yet to play the sequel, but I would note a couple of areas for improvement: For the powers that eliminate words -- Fire and Spark -- don't have them eliminate…

Really enjoyed my time with this one, very inventive and ties typing with a fully realized adventure. Most typing games are just typing exercises with a thin coat of paint. This bucks that trend by feeling like an adventure first and a typing game second, which feels a lot more immersive. Definitely recommended and I wish we had more games in this vein.

So much more than a simple typing game. Beautiful writing and narration, lovely environments to explore. There are dungeon environments, puzzles, elemental damage swapping, treasures to find, this is a full on adventure. I found the ending and closing song beautiful and walked away feeling so glad that I played this. The difficulty is adaptive, so you'll be able to play this whether you're a good typist or not and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to go on a lovely adventure in this world.

I highly recommend this game as a wonderful way to improve your typing skills in an extremely beautifully crafted game. This one is a one of a kind type of game. Having perused the typing tag. Most typing games are shooter type games or hacker games, but there isn't one like this, except the other title, Nanotales. Epistory - Typing Chronicles is a simple game based around the idea of well.. typing. It's basically a type the word to fight game, where when you complete the word on the enemy, it gets strike. You have 4 elemental powers to play with to fend off waves of enemies at certain locations which can be considered the challanging part. You have a bit of exploration, unlocking chests and getting some fragments. You have some very light progression system where you can get upgrades for your character.…

Beautiful game from start to finish. The design, music and overall ambiance are on point. The gameplay is both quite simple and very challenging. You just have to write words, but the speed you need to type them at and complexity of the words gets progressively harder as you advance and unlock certain elements. Highly recommended, really enjoyed this one. PS: for obvious reasons, I would recommend playing this with kb+m and not a controller.

Ehh, it's a fine game if you just want something to plug away at and want your ego stroked for your typing skills. I wish it was focused more on typing sentances rather than arbitrary themed words. I'd also love, say, a TAB button or something to be a full delete/refresh on which word you're typing, as sometimes you can get on a word you're not focused on and that just trips you up a ton. It's taken me several years to actually finish this game, but the second time around I enjoyed it a lot more. It's challenging even for someone who types 140WPM. Speed isn't the most important factor; there's strategy involved in knowing what types of magic to use and which monsters to focus on first. The nests (which is this game's version of boss fights) are a real challenge. The graphics are pretty, the music is nice, and the narration is pleasant. It's satisfying to unlock more of the map…

This game pleasantly surprised me with its unique gameplay. The paper-like design is beautiful, the story is engaging, and everything fits together very well. Although the game might seem easy at first glance, it’s not. I really enjoy the game’s style, where you write words to defeat enemies. Very fun game to motivate yourself to improve your typing skills. The game itself doesn't teach you typing but you'll have the pick up your pace (and reduce your error rate) as the later battles (and Arena mode) really require some fast fingers and quick thinking. The music is nice and graphically it's nice. How the world literally unfolds in front of you from paper looks very neat. It's a good game, but the recommendation is a cautious one. It's not an easy game at all if you aren't a typist of at least average skill level. It's a common complaint in the discussions about the level of difficulty. Currently I hover around about 30 WPM (garbage) but i'm very slowly improving. I struggle very much with the easiest skill level. So you should be at least be at that speed before you even consider the game. If you aren't there yet, get Nanotale, the game after this one. A game with nice a papercraft visual style, great story and a different approach to combat. I would recommend playing the game just for the experience. For the achievement hunters/completionists, beware that the kill 10,000 enemies and 1000 word combo can take up quite some time. After finishing the story you're at around 2,500/3000 enemies so you'll have to grind in the arena for a bit

This was the first time I played such a nice typing game. I don't really like "hacking" theme and most of these are in that game genre so I was happy when this gem showed up. Story is interesting and how fast you beat it depends on your typing skills. For achievements hunters - you won't be able (at least I don't think so) to get all achievements after finishing the game. You will need to grind them at the arena for few hours (beating certain amount of enemies + amount of typed words). So it…

I may not have the best typing skills, I make a lot of mistakes. However, this game does encourage you to try typing without mistakes otherwise - you die to the enemies, which I have done a lot. It teaches you how to spell correctly and to even type during the scenario that you're in. Apart from the typing aspect of the game, the visuals are quite unique. I'm amazed how it appears like you're opening a new book chapter each time you unlock a new area. The paper-like experience reminds me of…

Steam Deck Playable ❌ UW Support ⚠️ It's a game that definitely helps with the typing and the story falling to the background. However, one key note is that it is quite buggy in more ways than one. I completed the story and wanted to get all the achievements in the game. After switching to Linux, the achievement for counting all foes killed does not work. I've reached out to their support team but no response. It is an older game and it is a bit of fun, but with a lacking story and the…

Very nice and relaxing typing game. Can even be challenging from time to time. The visuals are really unique and captivating.

Amazing game. The concept is unique and brilliant, as well as quite easy to understand. Challenging puzzles, quite hard boss waves. Even as a hobby writer, I definitely had some struggles, though mainly because I am not too good at multi-tasking. The different abilities brought a lot of strategy into the game too. When to use the fire, ice, sparks or wind was tough to figure out, but eventually, it became second nature. The visuals are also fabulous. The storytelling, chef's kiss. The hardest…

How have I never heard of this game until now? The gameplay is fun (apart from a couple puzzles that were a bit silly), and the story is told very well. It makes you put the pieces together along the way, and doesn't treat you like an idiot. I would really recommend others give this game a shot. It is short (only took me 3 hours to complete), but I would recommend taking your time to find all the pieces of the story hidden throughout the world. There is actually a lot that I missed out on in…

This game is AWESOME unless you can't type then you may find it fusterating I recommend anything that is specifically related to learn typing hey I failed typing 3 times and did the complete course from software and typed a lot and years later I can type and this game only makes me a better typist but that is only scratching the surface of what this game does somehow Fishing Cactus made typing a blast and so many other games try but do not even come close. At it's core this is an adventure it…

It's not bad for an indie game but still carries somewhat of a 'fog' that smaller studios have where I couldn't tell if the game was actually broken or if some features were intentional.

It is a nice casual game but it wont necesarily make you a better typist by itself which is what I was hoping for. Even on the adaptive difficulty, it is a little too easy.
