What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 186 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,239 of 1,356 positive).
Players praise Eversion as a short but memorable platformer with a unique eversion mechanic that transforms the world. [1][2][3] Many note its historical significance as an early indie horror game, though some find it dated. [4][5][6] A few reviewers criticize it as too short, anticlimactic, or not worth the price. [7][8][9]

Not really worth it for the price tag. The game is an alright die-and-retry platformer. Sure, the atmosphere and the "twist" are interesting, and I know there are collectables that can make the play time longer, but in the end I didn't find that it was really worth neither my time nor my money for what it offers.

It's a well done pixel platformer. Nailed the art style, random happy back ground music, and a fairly simple yet enjoyable platforming adventure to enjoy. It's good simple fun with a simple concept, and a great score for cheap! If you enjoy quick little platformer games with solid mechanics you might enjoy this as well!

Based on a 2008 freeware indie platformer, this is a 2010 Steam port that updates aspects such as graphics and difficulty. Eversion is a short platformer that is inspired by the Mario games and H.P. Lovecraft. It blends this overly jovial platforming with the ability to 'evert' where you step into a different layer of the game world. The deeper you 'evert', the more corrupt the world becomes before your eyes. This …

A small piece of gaming history, akin to some of those old flash games of many years ago. Solid little platformer. As you can see, I have barely 1 and a half hours on it with all achievements, game 100% complete. Worth dropping a fiver to the dev in my opinion.

I continue to think about this game even after I've put it down for years. Kind of crazy how ahead of it's time it was.
Summarised from 34 of the 224 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 12, 2026. How summaries are made
90% of the 186 Steam reviewers we collected recommend eversion. The complaint that keeps coming up: too short for the price tag. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the princess in Eversion didn't exist until I had made the whole game and had to figure out what the ending would be!
neutral · AI labelView post →I enjoy in games when there are alternate versions of the levels with aesthetic differences 🙂 Like the time periods in Sonic CD, the Dark World in Super Meat Boy, the Eversion Layers in Eversion. In the post game of Mario 3D Land there are some remixed levels that have different weather etc too 🙂

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Exploring parallel dimensions in game mechanics has always fascinated me. Think Zelda ALTTP, Soul Reaver, Silent Hill, Eversion, etc. That's why I'm excited to see a self-aware, metafictional take on a similar concept. #gamedev #indiegames #indiedev #solodev #indiegamedev #artgames

neutral · AI labelView post →"But what if the game was corrupted and hyper-realisting blood was all over the place?" - The Game Bought and palyed it in the big 2025, and it's a VERY simple but cute game that reflects some of the online trends that were popular back in the day (and, funnily enough, they still are) It's not an amazing game, it's a basic puzzle platform with one cool feature and some pretty basic pixel art... BUT consider this game as a time capsule for a period that cannot really be replicated, when indie…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A sad case of a game where it's not possible to reveal how cool it is without spoiling it. Keep your expectations open if you do decide to try this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the closest thing i could think of is Eversion and that's like...there isn't really a full "normal" version of the game, it just transforms into a creepypasta version of itself over the course of gameplay. weird route really feels UNINTENDED in a way that is hard to achieve

A little endearing sunflower protagonist somehow stuck in the poor Mario onerous world , with gems instead of coins, Nothing of sort of cabbage or flower upgrades to give special powers to our unlucky sunflower trying to save its princess. But don't even for a second, think that you're gonna have same comeback to 1980's Super Mario. The game has a special out-of-the-box concept, wherein you need to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With how I have heard of this most colourful, yet rather mysterious, indie platforming game from way back in the day that looked innocent enough at a first glance, seeing how common kids platformer games are these days from over the generations of gamers that have begun being popularized since the NES days and even existing as far back as the Atari itself! It's why, going into this game here, that I figured I'd finally give eversion a proper shot, noting that I have seen playthroughs of it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cheers to the dev; they made something special here, but I do want to take a moment to muse on this game. Old game. Saw Let's Plays of it growing up. Love at first sight, really. Indie game, cute veneer with some heavier themes and imagery as it goes on. Not...particularly unique today, and that's the focal point to me. You'll probably see a good number of negative reviews, people coming in late. It's a title that has history, that history written all over other indie titles with its sort of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is so good. it seems like it's just a harmless platformer and boom! it is now scary and i love it! the game is fun and challenging and i got all 3 endings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm gonna be honest here, this game was kind of disappointing. I was expecting something a lot more interesting here but it was super barebones and anticlimactic. I guess if you've got the loose change and its on one of steams "this 3 dollar game is now 1 dollar" sales it's worth it, but for it being a 20 minute game I'd say this should have been just a free download on itch.io, not something you pay for on steam.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I threatened to do it a fortnight ago, but in about ten minutes I will be subjecting an unsuspecting Alex to the crown jewel of Brazilian game design, Eversion HD. @zaratustra.bsky.social peaked harder than most of us. www.twitch.tv/violentaperi...
positive · AI labelView post →Eversion was honestly disappointing and I blame all of you for thinking that this is scary. I will admit, there were some clever puzzles, but they're often offset by confusing ones which don't telegraph themselves to the player very clearly. I didn't bother with the alternate endings. Nothing about this truly felt 'investing' for a horror. It's mute, one-note.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gotta be real, I'm not a big platformer game player so the time is reflective of that lol. It was a really fun time, and definitely reminded me of my time playing games on coolmathgames. The puzzles were complicated enough to not always be obvious, and there were multiple paths to finishing the levels, especially the last one. I found out I made the final world way more difficult than necessary, but as a mediocre game player I can say it was really rewarding getting things to work. Definitely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're not particularly good at platformers, especially ones with somewhat slippery controls, I would recommend skipping the download and just watching a play through. However, if you like challenging platformers with innovative horror elements, give it a shot. Still a very fun idea.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man why doesn't anybody talk about Eversion anymore?? It was everywhere back in the early 2010's and nowadays I never hear about it. It's a really cool little game! I love the everting mechanic and how going into deeper and deeper layers affects not only the visuals, but the music too. The real OGs remember World 1 and World 8's original music before it was changed
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that is under 3 hours, AND has Trading Cards? What a deal! Have fun replaying the game 2 or 3 times, or becoming a speedrunning god just to earn your 3 Trading Cards! Buy it today!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun small platformer, will keep you busy for an hour or two. Shifting into deeper dimensions is a nice twist. Works well on the Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HD remaster of a TIGSource classic. It's short and the controls are not as smooth as other platformers, but it's a good game well worth your $5.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very weird cute platformer! Controlled a little on the poor side, almost slightest delay of inputs. Massive hit boxes on EVERYTHING! Short but worth a play-through! Easy 100% achievements! Behind You....
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a masterclass in deception. this game messes with you literally every opportunity it gets and every time it's wonderful and welcome. and underneath that it is a really solid and surprisingly tricky puzzle platformer. this is one of the only games i've ever 100 percent completed cause its just excellent. its well worth your money
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MAJOR UNMARKED SPOILERS So you've had Eversion spoiled for you. You know the big plot twist. You've seen the screenshots, you've watched the reaction videos, you read all the blocked-out stuff on TV Tropes. Without the element of surprise, is Eversion still worth playing? Lemme tell you why I think the answer is “yes.” But first, a quick overview. The princess of the Flower Kingdom, Nehema, has gone missing, and rumor has it she's been kidnapped and imprisoned by the Ghuliba of the North.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This weekend, I got a few games lined up! Friday at 5pm BST I've played Eversion years ago and would love to introduce peeps to this game, with Nightmare Kart on backup to try out! And Sunday from 1pm BST I finish up Tanglewood and slip into Pony Island and see how tense/horrific that game gets!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eversion It's still a pretty fun and decent little platformer, but I feel like the whole "cutesy game is a lot less cute the further you go on" has been done plenty since its release back in 2010. At the time, though, it did feel pretty novel!
neutral · AI labelView post →A Kaizo in disguise. The twist is alright, but the levels are agonizing. The microgenre of "games that aren't what they appear to be" has come a very long way from this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't want to spoil anything, but this game is so cool. Just trust me, you're gonna wanna see this.

I was playing eversion for the first time and everything went green and I though ‘oh ok pretty cool’ but then everything went red and pink and the guy started going into blood it was scary and after I got past that I think ‘o good’ but no it got more pinker and the red hands went and grabbed me and made me go blood and a wall started going blood and it followed me too scary do not play game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute, innocent platformer for sure where absolutely nothing wrong happens. Pretty short but I'd recommend it for the unique experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an awesome game and you should all buy it. Also, play it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expected this game to be an interesting psychological platformer game, which is what the game is detailed as under the tags on the steam store, but I was left with a very minuscule experience that left me completely unsatisfied. I expected the game to have some sort of substance, but it was a very weak game that only had about 30 minutes of playtime. I would say that the experience was not worth the money especially accounting for how short the game was. 3/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game for my son, thinking it was a happy cute little Mario plat-former game with a neat puzzle mechanic, now he has nightmares about giant red hands coming out from under his bed and grabbing him and dragging him to the underworld.

For that reason alone the game could be worth checking out to fans of the genre. And beyond that, the merits of the games atmosphere are strong enough to extend the recommendation to anyone else that may have a passing interest in what this game has to offer. The game isn't too hard. There are some challenging segments but patience and perseverance will see you through them…
