Players praise the game's immersive atmosphere and unique mechanics, but many report severe technical issues on modern PCs. [1][2][3][4] Others find the game nearly unplayable due to crashes, glitches, and lack of official support, recommending mods or alternative versions. [5][6][7][8]

Ubisoft sells this for 10 € but it's no more supported by modern PCs and they don't even patch it. Todo list to manage to use it on modern PC: – Alt+Enter to go full screen – Apply your video settings but you'll need to limit FPS to 60 and turn on V-sync (otherwise you'll have shaking/boucing NPCs) – To stop game crashing after 15-60 min of game, you'll need to apply the 4GB patch from NTCore …

Pros: Good, difficult gameplay that challenges the player, although it gets repetitive over time. Great shooting mechanics. Gorgeous open world. An okay soundtrack that fits the setting. Deeply written antagonist. Cons: One of the worst mission designs I've ever seen. Massive open world with nothing to do in it. Traveling across the map is incredibly tedious, boring, and exhausting. Fast travel is limited to bus …

Far Cry 2 is a game that actively hates the player. Guns jam, malaria interrupts everything, checkpoints respawn endlessly, and the world never lets you relax. It is miserable, hostile, and exhausting. I love it. 10/10

The story and atmosphere are uniquely honest about the nature of war in a way the other titles of the Far Cry series simply weren't. Other entries in the series - while great in their own way - never really confronted the in-universe moral implications of killing so many people, even if they're enemy combatants. This game does; wounded enemies cry out in fear, and late-game enemies often plead for their life before …

No kidding, it's the best Far Cry game you can get so far. IT DOESN'T REQUIRE UBISOFT CONNECT LAUNCHER!!! The world feels believable, real. Just like we imagined Africa in 20XX-201Xs. Gunplay is good, physics is the best among all titles in the series. It's not a joke, Ubisoft Montreal did an insane job back in 2008, and none of other Far Cry games STILL TO THIS DAY cannot outperform it. The wildfire and the way it …

The Windows version was the best-selling game in North America during its opening week. The 360 version was fourth, while the PS3 version was fifth. According to a report by the NPD Group, Far Cry 2 was the fifteenth best-selling Windows game during November 2008. By November 12, the game had sold one million copies worldwide across all platforms. Sales were up to 2.9 million by the following January. Far Cry 2 met with generally positive reviews from gaming journalists. On review aggregator website Metacritic, the Windows and console version were given scores of 85 points out of 100; the score was based on 34 reviews for Windows, 49 for PS3, and 75 for 360. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd love to play it, but steam failed to cloud-save my 30 hour playthrough. Got a new PC, and I can't even get through the long opening sequence without crashing. It's an old game, there's going to be issues; but if you're charging money for it, it had better be at least moderately playable. It isn't.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This entry into the Far Cry series is definitely not for everybody, especially those who are used to the gameplay loop that began from Far Cry 3 onwards (I first played this when it released, and hated the subsequent entries). It definitely has that tech demo feeling to it, because it essentially was a showcase of the new engine at the time of its release. This said, for those who like a challenging gameplay experience a minimum of hand-holding, Far Cry 2 stands out as one of the most unique…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After seeing Ubisoft saying that their players dont own the gsmes they buy, its just limited access... i cannot in my right mind leave a good review or buy their future releases.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game will crash right before the first savepoint, so it is just impossible to progress. Searched for a solution, tried Multifixer, not working. I guess it is just impossible to run this thing on Win11. I'm sure it is a good game though.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game with a ton of charm and nostalgia for me. Usually when I think of some of my favorite guns in games, my first thought usually goes to their renditions in this game. The jamming/malaria mechanics get a lot of overblown hate as jamming is pretty easily avoidable if you use owned weapons and malaria is practically a non-factor for 90% of the gameplay. That being said, the PC version absolutely blows. It basically can't run on modern hardware by default, and while theoretically…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is my second time playing this game. The state it has been left in is sad beyond belief. A game that delivers something no other game does, the fact that there has never been a spiritual sequel is actually a sin. No other game portrays the raw human desire for violence and greed like Far Cry 2 does. After finishing it I set to work right away reading 2 books about how the Diamond trade works and it was sickening to witness myself, read so often a story about yet another man who had been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Far Cry game besides FC5. Mixes the movie Blood Diamond, Heart of Darkness and both movie and book "Dogs of War" perfectly and makes it a whole new piece of art. My rhodesian blood boils with joy playing this!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. Very pretty scenery and the ai are surprisingly smart. Ubisoft haven't ported the game from console very well though. It is fully functional barring a few sound glitches so long as you limit the games framerate each time on the main menu. To do this, press the ` key next to 1 and type in: gfx_maxfps 60 Hopefully that helps!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I REALLY want to love this game so badly. Everything about this game except for 1 thing is truly amazing: -The atmosphere is harsh and gritty, better than later entries of the series. -The guns feel great -The game feels super immersive, again, better than later games. -Foliage and destruction, namely flames appearing during combat from explosions and physics reacting are all great -Very unique buddy system where buddies can save you when dying, and a malaria and pills system that adds pressure…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I ♥♥♥♥ you not, this game puts a curse on your steamdeck. It refuses to uninstall, instead it opens itself when trying to do so. Once it boots, there is no escape, not even the home button can save you. This game is possessed, 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is good but it's almost unplayable on modern PCs. I had to install something called multifixer just to run the game and had to lock it to 60 fps so the NPCs wouldn't bounce around like they're using pogo sticks and it still crashes constantly. What's even worse is it often crashes while you're saving so the save file gets corrupted and if you only used one save slot throughout the whole game, you're doomed. I learned this the hard way and had to start all over again. I tried using the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally unplayable. I'm at a part where I'm meant to go to a place called "Mike's bar", and the person I'm meant to meet to progress the story keeps repeating the same voice line because he's glitching and I can't continue with the rest of the story. I guess this is my fault for buying a Ubisoft game in 2026.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the game is really immersive and a great experience, I simply can't recommend the Steam Version as it crashes almost every hour of play. I had to use the multi-fixer launcher aka bypassing Steam's launcher for it not to crash. So while the game is a great entry to Far Cry, you have to bypass the launcher on Steam or get the GOG version. Edit: This game won't even stop breaking with multi-fixer on. I'm over halfway through but honestly I'm done making it work on steam. Don't buy it here,…

Repeat All this with enemies spawning on the road ever 10 seconds and the outposts respawnign enemies every single time . That one mission had me drive through the same 2 outposts 6 times . How can anyone actually think this is good game design
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So im currently playing through the far crys for my first time, I recently completed Far cry 1 and absolutely loved it. I came into this game and had fun for the first few hours, but now I cant really bring myself to enjoy this game. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GOATed game. Took me around 25 hours on a replay, doing all base game + deleted content, on the highest difficulty setting (which I highly recommend). Play with the Redux + Realism mod pack to avoid technical issues, restore deleted content and get some welcome balancing changes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Far Cry 2 is an amazing game with themes inspired from complicated works such as "Heart of Darkness", a gritty atmosphere, and challenging gameplay that makes the rest of the Far Cry series look like Childs play. But I'm leaving a negative review because this is game has game-breaking bugs in it. I lost all of my progress because I wasn't able to get anymore pills (even though the mission was still active) and I kept dying to Malaria. Even when I loaded a save point before that mission, it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The African setting is stunning and the fire mechanics are incredible for the time. Brutal and unforgiving in ways that will frustrate a lot of people but there's a raw atmosphere here that the later games never quite captured
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to play this game because you like farcry 3, 4, 5, 6, bloodragon, primal, new dawn, then you'll be disapointed because this game follows a very diferent logic. Some say that this game is great because it doesn't make you feel like a hero, it instead shows you how pointless the war is, and i can kind of see that, but i think that there are games that do that better. Far cry 2 doesn't even feel like a game, it feels like a tech demo to show the new engine they made that still lacks…

Except for this piece of trash. the most tedious, boring, annoying game i think i have ever played. i can understand why somebody could enjoy it (its kind of immersive, and is very hardcore) but like, it isn't fun having to drive for 10 minutes but every 2 minutes you HAVE to exit your vehicle, kill like 2 dudes, then repair your car, and drive for another two minutes. This "game's" gameplay loop is quite literally, drive, kill like 3 dudes, repair car,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Game Is Underrated . Yes i has some flaws but much better than the new games we get from ubisoft , DUNIA engine at its peak
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Far Cry 2 is awesome, pre ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ era ubisoft. The reviews crying about the fact an 18 year old game does not work properly on new hardware are aхмакхои акиб iqlets. Patch the game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it takes 10 minutes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not built for todays PCs and good luck trying to make me take 2 hours to install fixes just to play a game with little depth besides fire mechanics.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. Ill probably do another playthrough in the future. Necessary to prevent game crashes: DS9, VSYNC on, 60 fps or less
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It would be nice if any Ubisoft game from the PS3/X360 era didn’t crash every 0.5–2 hours. Edit: Installing DXVK helps a lot. It still crashes from time to time, but the game is a lot more stable. I’m leaving a negative review because it’s Ubisoft’s job to fix this. The game is great and one of a kind, though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to say this is better than the third, but it's definitely up there. Plays extremely well with a few minor tweaks for modern hardware. Gets a bit tedious at times and does not hold your hand, but the highest difficulty was a nice challenge which fits the very immersive jungle-hell tone of the game overall.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no words to say besides its PEAK. Animations, NPC's, everything is realistic and I absolute LOVE it. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's VERY hard to compliment this game without sounding pretentious, but the immersion on offer here is just unmatched... one of few open world types that doesn't devolve into pure self-indulgent power fantasy, the world is unforgiving, unpredictable and even with the best gear you're completely at the hands of your surroundings. i only wish the rest of the series was more like this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it crashes constantly... not able to fix game is amazing so it deserves a good review but I don't wanna have to make 100 adjustments to figure out which thing will fix the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A malaria induced reimagining of Heart of Darkness (1899). Seriously. The AI in this game puts Radiant AI to shame, NPCs will react to almost everything going on and even pick up their wounded buddies in combat. The fire propagation system in FC2 is also still unmatched by any other game to this day. FC2 also has a weapon degradation system that progresses from your weapon getting dirty and jamming every once in a while up until it straight up just explodes in your hand.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of the series, I must admit I bounced off of this one a few times. The rough edges are undeniable and have been talked about ad nauseum. Repetition does set in between the respawning outposts, the sheer number of collectibles, and a fast travel system that only kind of helps sometimes. But what the game does well…it does brilliantly. The open world is beautiful and reminds you of the desolation that’s being brought in by human greed as the exotic wildlife roams carefree through the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a real one. When it works it's essentially Metal Gear Solid V decades before and in first person. It does take way more tweaking (and surprisingly not that much modding) to make the game stable and approachable though. I'm on Windows 10 and use a combination of: Input (I play with a controller) 1) Steam Input enabled (top community template) 2) configure sensitivity in Documents/My Games/Farcry 2/GameProfile.xml to 0.2 - 0.4. I've always hesitated to play FAR CRY 2 and FAR CRY Primal, but I finally decided to go back and play EVERY FAR CRY game from beginning to end including DLC add ons to see what game is really better in my opinion. After doing that, I can confidently say that FAR CRY 2 is the best FAR CRY…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its pretty cool i wish we could get MORE games set in Africa cause this games setting was absolutely gorgeous. Its still fun af even now although at times unfairly hard with the enemies blending in with the environment and being very difficult to see. This game oozes with charm and its one of the most unique fps games ive played with the malaria system which caught me off guard initially but also the currency being diamonds plays extremely well into this games setting and tone. the campaign…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite Farcry Game out there. The atmosphere and absolute brutality of the game is something you do not see often anymore. Factoring in gun jamming, spreading fire, Malaria flare ups, and the relentless nature of the AI you felt like a lone wolf in a hostile environment. It has great gunplay and a decent story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought the whole Far Cry bundle and gived this game a chance. The npc-s bouncing, car glitching, enemies bug through wall.... too many bugs to enjoy the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →play with scubrah mod and you will have a blast it fixes all the bugs and boring things from game and gives you best quality game 10/10 recommend this game best far cry ever Shooting 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10 mechanics 10/10 the story is good enough to keep you playing the game but the concept of two faction is good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Need an easy to install bug fix mod to play on modern PC, but this game still slaps
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unplayable buggy mess, npcs are bouncing/glitching out and its impossible to talk with main quest npcs, softlocking me instantly.. Wish i could rate the game properly but the bugs pushed me away from it, disappointing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Somehow the enemies aim at the opposite direction and manage to shoot me with great accuracy. Other than that it's a good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best hardcore Far Cry game ever made that also never get any remaster or remake. Hope this game gets remastered version soon. Anyway, Greatest enemies in this game are "gun jamming" and "malaria". it can happen to you anytime.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Make sure to keep trying out different guns so the missions don't get repetitive. Anything with fire makes the game super fun simply because of the fire spreading mechanic, you can literally create hell at will. Flamethrower forever.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I deeply loved this game when I played it several years ago. It was old and unpolished but utterly unique in a way its sequels never tried to live up to. Playing it again recently, on more modern hardware, I've found that its technical issues have become insurmountable. It requires fan patching just to run at all on modern cpus, and even then I found unsolvable crashes that set me back hours of progress. I had to give up a few hours in, if only to save my sanity. I can't blame Ubisoft for not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You have to be masochistic to play this game on Infamous difficulty. It's unfair, unforgiving, and won't cut you any breaks. So to dominate it, you have to be a sadist. Amazing. Gritty, realistic, brutal. None of the other Far Cry games really got this right, the reality of what you were doing. That being destabilizing a country and killing dozens. This game takes it on the chin, and any possible comic relief is immediately overshadowed by downed-enemies crying out for their mothers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very immersive and punishing game, with a startling level of depth for its time. They really don't make them like this any more. Story is almost non-existent, but personally I find the travelling about enjoyable enough that it doesn't matter. There's a wide variety of weapons, like all the Far Cries, but these ones actually feel real. You can't mod them- what you get is what you get, and weapons can jam and break, fire duds, the works. I will say that the combat is very punishing on higher…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good time, gentlemen! Here we are again with another Far Cry review — this time it's Far Cry 2. Remember how I complained about the crazy bugs in Far Cry 1? Well... FORGET ABOUT IT. Far Cry 2 takes this ♥♥♥♥ to another level. NPCs are flying up and down, teleporting from side to side, story dialogues constantly get interrupted, and sometimes you can literally get stuck inside some random textures. But honestly, the biggest problem with this game is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story dialogue. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet another game where I wish there was a middle ground in the Steam reviews. As a game, it is pretty interesting: You're traveling across the malaria-infested jungle (being sick yourself), where every person that has a weapon is the law. The map is packed with armed checkpoints that shoot anyone on sight, weapon dealers, and secluded safehouses, protected from the main roads where turret vehicles patrol around to "keep order". Doing missions, you get paid in rough diamonds (which you can…
