FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles
Developer Square Enix
Final Fantasy Tactics is a 1997 tactical role-playing game developed and published by Square for the PlayStation. It was released in Japan in June 1997 and in North America in January 1998 by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the first game of the Tactics sub-series within the Final Fantasy franchise, and the first entry set in the fictional world later known as Ivalice. The story follows Ramza Beoulve, a highborn… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Absolutely unacceptable that Denuvo DRM requires me to be online to play a game I already purchased and that I already run multiple times and that I find this only in the airplane without any kind of connection. They should never block me from play my game offline, never.

The GOAT of the TRPG genre for many and one of my favorite games of all time. I've played War of the Lions and the original PS1 version as well. This version was a little controversial within the FFT community due to the removal of the added content from the War of the Lions version. The Good: +Voice acting is a tremendous addition to giving the narrative more life. The story was already considered one of the best …

One of the best games ever, and one of my all time favorites. I have been asking for this PC release for a long time, and Square finally delivered. Take my money. Its a masterpiece. Its worth every penny. There is a reason people have been going back to play it for 30 years. EDIT: I read some of the negative reviews. Most of them read like this: "I expected a remake of a 30 year old game to not resemble a 30 year …

I know many people were hesitant because of cut content from the war of the lions version released on the PSP. But this version of the game is absolutely perfect. The voice acting and script revisions breathe new life into a 2 decade old game. I find myself listening intently to every word despite the over 4k hours I have spread across the previous two games. The QOL improvements and UI rework were all things I …

I'm glad they have both the classic and remaster modes, it's really interesting to see the differences. The remaster is very well done, no slow down issues! Been having a blast remembering everything. Here's hoping they do the rest of the tactics series. The voice acting raises the game up to new levels, same as it did with the FF4 3D remake. I find that the story is much easier to understand (maybe also cause I'm …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Final Fantasy Tactics sold nearly 825,000 copies in Japan in the first half of 1997, and ended the year at almost 1.24 million copies sold. By 2007 the game had sold approximately 1.35 million copies in Japan. As of August 2011, the original PlayStation version had sold over 2.4 million copies worldwide. Final Fantasy Tactics received critical acclaim upon its release. Some reviews lauded the battle sequences as challenging, requiring more strategic planning than ordinary RPGs and utilising many gameplay mechanics in later battle sequences. The visuals were also lauded, particularly the spell effects, 3D battlegrounds, and camera that can be rotated and zoomed. Other reviewers disagreed and…

neutral · AI labelView post →Put this on my steamdeck for a long roadtrip and it wouldn't let me play unless Steam was in Online mode and I obviously wasn't going to get online on the highway. Didn't this used to be a PSP game??? They put DRM on a $50 PSP game. ♥♥♥♥ that. I even booted it up the night before to make sure it worked. The game is good, I have no complaints about the game itself. I think "playable in offline mode" should be part of the steamdeck verification checklist and this game shouldn't pass.

neutral · AI labelView post →Final Fantasy Tactics is the best game ever made. I played the hell out of the original when I was younger, and played War of the Lions when it came out on Android. The gameplay is so much fun and the story is amazing and somehow, sadly, more relatable today. But I just cannot recommend this version, much as it pains me. Not for full price. The game looks nice, the voice acting is great, the UI improvements are decent, and I appreciate the ability to ignore/trigger random encounters. As far…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Great game, not worth $50 — play the WOTL version for now. For the price, this game gets a thumbs-down. Final Fantasy Tactics is an amazing game, but save yourself some money and play the WOTL version until this one gets cheaper. For a $50 price tag, it just doesn’t compare to what you’d get from other titles in terms of content. I mean, even the deluxe edition gives you… skins? C’mon man... I completely understand not wanting to take too much away from the original, but there were so…

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a very old game and it's being sold for a pretty steep price, I probably wouldn't recommend it at full value, so get it on sale if you get it at all. Overall my thoughts on this game are somewhat mixed. It's regarded as a cult classic, but if I'm being honest, I feel like the emphasis might be leaning more into the "cult" part. I think this game's use of the Final Fantasy job class system works very well during the early stages of the game. As you earn JP, you select new skills and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love tactics games, but $50 is too expensive for this. Wait for a sale, you aren't missing much. Scaling is turned really weird towards the endgame. Enemies seem to scale with the highest level in the party which is unfortunate since there will usually be one or 2 power players on the team, creating a big divide. Leveling system sucks since its based upon attacking you're reduced to trapping an enemy in a corner and then hitting your own characters so the low level ones can rank up. Wish…

positive · AI labelView post →Great game, nice remaster but buy it at a -25% or more sale, it's not worth the full price. It's really great to play this again after almost 30 years. Changes aren't too big. Could be better but it's still a great game after all those years. Playing on keyboard and mouse is ok as well, even a little bit better then on a console controller. Only thing that I dislike about the enhanced version is the lack of original screams after defeating opponents.

(Fortunately, they're quick and to the point) 2. Luso, Balthier, the Dark Knight/Onion Knight classes, along with other WOTL content is mostly absent here. 3. Sadly, no multiplayer which feels like a seriously missed opportunity here. Now for the pros: 1. Improved UI and runs very smooth 2. Gameplay is much easier to…

positive · AI labelView post →Cheap cash grab port that only gets love because SRPG fans are absolutely STARVING for Square to do something with the Ogre Battle and FFT IPs. I too feel that starvation. But all they did was slap on a coat of paint and add VA. The VA is good, but represents a very small part of the experience. They didn't even update the map textures. This isn't the remake it was billed as and that breaks my heart. Why not 'remake' Dark Knight/Onion Knight to fit the game better? Why not 'remake' the…

neutral · AI labelView post →Final Fantasy Tactics was my all time favorite game, but I cannot reasonably recommend this port due to Square Enix's history of anti-consumer practices with this game and the fact that it is objectively inferior and has much less content than the "War of the Lions" version for purely superficial reasons, despite being almost double the price of that version. While I do appreciate some of the small Quality of Life changes in terms of the UI and menu navigation, fast-forward during combat,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game but poorly remastered. For a £40 "remaster", they could've put effort into remastering the old ass system. 1. You cannot pause until it's your characters turn. Unless you want to Alt + F4 and lose your save, you have to wait for all the enemies to finish having their orgy before you get thrown a sandwich. 2. The camera angle is awful, this could have easily been fixed had they not ported it so lazily. You have all sorts of pieces of the map and terrain blocking your view. 3. The fast…
