What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 162 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (1,292 of 1,735 positive).
Players find Fortified a fun tower defense game with a charming 1950s sci-fi aesthetic, especially in co-op. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note it gets repetitive quickly and lacks depth compared to similar games like Orcs Must Die. [4][5][6] Some players criticize the developers for abandoning the game, leaving it unbalanced and with broken achievements. [7][8][9]

Clapfoot (the developer) left this game unbalanced, buggy, with broken achievements. We tried to beg them to fix the game, but all our attempts were ignored both on the Steam forum and via email. At the same time, they are promoting their other game on the main page of the Steam store. And remove any chat messages from broadcasts on a new game when you ask them there to fix their previous game . This game would have …

Interesting class based tower defense type game where you along with a variety of structures defend your space shuttle against enemy waves of martians. Once you get to mid-level around map 4 and onward, the game play gets so unbalanced that you will consistently fail. This is mainly due to bad map design, bad structure placements, weapons are terrible even with upgrade modifiers, not enough cash given out to …

fun at first, gets repetitive fast Fortified is basically setting up turrets, holding waves, then jumping in to shoot aliens yourself, all with that cheesy 50s sci-fi vibe. It’s pretty fun early on, especially in co-op, but once you’ve seen a few missions, it starts to feel samey with not much enemy variety. Good for short sessions, but it didn’t hold my attention for long.

★☆☆☆☆ Undercooked Orcs Must Die! clone stylised in 50s US comics. Unreal Engine makes it look even cheaper than it is. Not deep, but have unique features like full commanding of summoned troops. Devs probably ran out of money and gave up In the half of the way, so game balanced poor. Beatable in singleplayer due to easy upgrades swaps, but most players didn't pass further 7 level. If you are advanced OMD fan then …

It ended up being a relatively quick playthrough, as long as you don't game over and lose all your power-ups from the early stages. It has nice art and music and is fun to play. #JustBeatIt

Classic, Actions, FIrst-Person, Third-Person, Tactical, I love them all. So this game was an easy sell. Buuut I quickly realized that I was probably a little above the skill grade for this game. Fortified, if you hadn't figured it out, is a Third-Person Action Tower Defense Game with multiple characters, a leveling system, and a strong Co-op focus and has the added bonus of being of rocking a 1950's- 60's…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is entertaining, but the online seems dead, and there are no ai companions, maybe I'm bad at the game, but it felt too hard for me solo halfway through the missions when enemies spawn from multiple points and you have to defend multiple bases, so it feels like a shore to complete rather than exciting. I would recommend it if you have friends to play, but otherwise you might find it frustrating,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ha ha, look at the latest positive reviews - most of them from VAC or ingame ban profiles. Seems like developers p1$$ed of because of the truth what other reviews says and decided to "hire" positive reviews. Don't believe screenshots or videos on this page. This game boring, developers doesn't care about fixing anything in this game - they only cares about money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BEFORE WE STARTING ACTUAL REVIEW... Fortified is a tower defense game similar to Orcs Must Die, but with a 50s comic book aesthetics. Well thats basicaly what our game about is at least... WE HAVE ANY STORY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT? Well... Basicaly game tells you Martians invade Earth. You have 4 commanders for control to stand against them. And thats everyting we have as a plot/story. GAMEPLAY MECHANICS ARE WELL MAKED? Gameplay mechanics are inferior to Orcs Must Die, its not detailed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It came 5 years after the Orcs Must Die! game. And yet... It feels weaker in every single aspect. What went wrong, though, that's the question. The gameplay is smooth and just easy to learn. Even the overall design of the game looks gud. I mean, 1950s aesthetic is truly nice to look at. But Fortified also feels quite empty sometimes. And some things kind of feel really unpolished. I've seen better games of this awesome genre. The tower defense genre is nothing new at all. With the 15€ price…

neutral · AI labelView post →Fortified is a bit of a hidden gem. It's a tower defense where you run around and help. Although somewhat clunky, it's a fun in singleplayer or online co-op. I recommend this if you're a fan of the genre.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a decent little game to sink a bit of time into if bored. However it gets repetitive fast as there as the levels are fairly generic and the gameplay is not really engaging. Its also clear the devs abandoned it, as they would not fix bugged invasion mode achievements and have moved onto other topics.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a SUPERB game!! The comparison with Orcs Must Die is inevitable. But I like this one MUCH better! The controls are much more intuitive. The overall views of your shooter and surroundings make it harder to get lost or overwhelmed. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this looking to get a good co-op tower defense going with a friend and, hey, it was like $2 on sale. After about a half hour it's just not scratching that itch. The comparison to Orcs Must die is an easy one to make but the difference here is that the towers/traps feel almost secondary - it's more of an arena shooter with some backup. The towers/traps you can place in any given level are relatively few, plus they feel both slow and underpowered. Arena-wise I'm pretty disappointed in the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE Orcs Must Die. It is the best tower defense series in the world to me. So when I found out this game is essentially a sci-fi clone of it, I was absolutely on board. Now, is the game as funny and charming as OMD? Nope. Not at all. But "muh sources are telling me..." has become an inside joke and the comic/retro/50's B-movie sci-fi is very fitting and fun to play around in! One big thing it does have over OMD is being able to command units. In OMD, you have archers, knights, dwarves…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It would be a nice TD game but your towers are crap, your guns are crap, there's no health bar, and death is swift. Only a handful of builds are viable past even the middle levels. The game gives you no numbers or stats, so it's impossible to determine weapon/tower quality other than by guessing and visual experimentation. So far the only difficulty I've played on should be renamed to cruel (or maybe punishing.)
