Developer Siege Camp

Foxhole is a cooperative sandbox massively-multiplayer action-strategy video game developed and published by Canadian video game company Siege Camp, who are based in Toronto, Ontario. The game uses Unreal Engine 4, utilizing an axonometric projection perspective, much like that of a conventional real-time strategy video game with a top-down view. Foxhole's setting is inspired by early 20th century warfare. The game… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Great concept. Toxic execution. Clans are misusing the “Disruptive Placement” tool to remove other players’ builds and reserve territory for themselves. As a Foxhole player with 5,300 hours of playtime, mostly spent in the Colonial faction as a builder and facility worker, I must say that even before the "Airborne" update, the game already had numerous issues resulting in poor balance, excessive time sinks, and a frustrating experience. One of the core issues is that whenever a faction's online player count drops below 2,000 to 3,000, game balance is completely …

56% of the 266 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Foxhole. The complaint that keeps coming up: clans abuse systems to control territory. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Rock, Paper, Shotgun's Brendan Caldwell discusses the gameplay of Foxhole, commenting on the logistics system, as well as general skill-based gameplay elements, along with the nature of the top-down view in the game, on their Electronic Wireless Show podcast. An in-depth preliminary review from IGN's Lief Johnson comments on the cooperative human element of the game, saying "I enjoyed Foxhole, and I know much of that enjoyment grew out the marvel of watching so many players working together." In late 2021 and early 2022, a group of players known as Logistics Organization for General Improvement (L.O.G.I.) began advocating for reform of the in-game logistics system, through which players…

Quick and short 4 reasons why I down vote this game in its current state 1.) This game should be be called "Maintenance supply simulator" Everything you build decays if it doesn't get maintenance supplies. The trenches you dig, the barbwire you set up, or the defenses you build, all will eventually "decay" over time and vanish before your eyes, if it doesn't get maintenance supplies, being consumed every hour. In other words, if you spent the entire weekend building something, log off…

Foxhole is a game I feel deep and lasting respect and affection for. I take absolutely no joy in having to finally review it, and join with the chorus of attacks on it, which I find have some merit. I have more, MORE than gotten my moneys worth out of the game, I enjoy it, and I play it, but if someone else, even someone interested in the niche logistical aspects of war simulation, asked me if they should play it, I would say 'no'. At its concept, as other reviewers note, Foxhole does…

honestly i love the game. the graphics and the combat and the logistics system. but players and groups keep claiming things as "private" area and its basically impossible for me to grab anything above salvage. hell some of the salvage fields are hard to get to since people build around them. To put short you basically need to be a part of a logistics group to do much of anything actually useful. so if you're a player with time yeah this game could work but if you are a solo player or a casual…

The arrival of airborne has made everything I said here a magnitude worse. Logistics around aircraft is genuinely terrible, but their strength is unmatched and nigh uncounterable by everything else in the game except by that same aircraft, forcing players to go through the absolute tedium that devs have imposed on the players. Currently terribly unbalanced at the state, and most of the aircrafts you see in trailers would be genuinely hard for you to experience due to reason stated above and…

The main reason I'm downvoting this game is that the banning system in this game is broken and out of control, it is regularly abused by toxic players, and the dev's are no help and I don't think they even read appeal tickets. The fact that players with 1000's of hours can be removed out of no were is messed up to the extreme.

Foxhole is an amazing concept being held back by its own development choices. The devs keep pushing out new toys and systems while ignoring the stuff that’s actually hurting the game. Old bugs stay broken, old balance issues stay unbalanced, and every patch adds a fresh batch of problems to deal with. QoL is basically nonexistent at this point. Simple fixes the community has begged for—sometimes for years—never seem to make the cut. Meanwhile, new content drops that nobody asked for, often…

Great game concept, very close to greatness, ruined by incredibly unfun Airborne mechanics and poor faction balance. A few highlights: - Naval is basically unplayable, particularly for Colonials. Small ships? Hard-countered by Warden scout planes. Large ships? Hard-countered by Warden torp bombers. I don't think Wardens have the best time of it either judging by how many times I heard of their large ships breaking off attacks after getting turreted by one or two dive bombers. The strategic…

Worst devs for a game I have ever seen. They added a plane with a bugged and oversized damage model. Players notice said oversized model, and even datamined evidence to show it is. Then a dev lashes out against said data mining, how inaccurate it is, and to not trust it. Weeks later, when the war ends, devs confirm the model is too large and just give it a tiny health bump, despite showing that they could change even visual models in short time just before the war. Just play something other…

At the time of this comment, the airborne update has been out for over a month. Despite consistent feedback in the testing branch and many bug reports, this update was pushed live half-baked. There has been consistent serious server lag across all devices, numerous bug exploits, and a total lack of developer transparency through it all. My favorite gameplay used to be using the mortar-mounted half-track solo. But after the Airborne update, it’s not fun anymore. Now it’s only really good for defense when you’re safely in your base and the wind direction is good. If you’re pushing/attacking and the enemy planes show up, it’s basically time to pack up and head home. This update killed the fun for me.. The game is just not fun anymore. I've played on and off since 2017, and this is the worst the game has been since the Inferno update. The devs cannot handle asymmetrical game balance whatsoever. The Colonial faction has been neglected time and time again. Airborne had a chance to revolutionize the game but all it did was make existing problems worse The game still doesn't respect player time. If you buy this game expecting to fly at least a fighter plane, you'll be sorely disappointed. Rare Metals is a cancerous mechanic that hasn't changed in 2 years, assembling and recovering planes is hostile game design, and logistics gameplay gets worse with every update.

I’ve been playing Foxhole since War 79, around mid 2021. Over that time I’ve put in thousands of hours, ran a regiment, and helped contribute in systems within the faction that are used to this day. This game is at its best when it comes to teamwork, coordination and scale, and that’s what kept me around this long. The biggest issue for me isn’t balance. It’s the lack of developer communication and involvement. Feedback from experienced players is constantly given, but it either gets ignored…

I've enjoyed most of the 5,000 hours. This review is based off a constant nerfing of some of the fundamental elements of the game. That's why I i have finally reviewed the game, The constant nerfs that affect partisan gameplay. You think of big things like the crane change, or you think of small things like the health of the APC. Waiting five months for the para plane doors, and then having a plane that can kill a para plane in seconds, being brought out at the same time that and they finally…

Incredibly toxic community that teamkills and then mass reports people for the slightest bits. Practically ran by large gangs of players who abuse systems to trample on anyone else that isn't with them. Tragedy of the Commons in real time

Foxhole gives a feeling like no other game, being a small piece of a massive war, knowing every gun you hold, and every bullet you shoot, every uniform you wear, was once mined by another player, was refined, has gone through a factory, and finally was driven out to the base you got it at is incredible.

I disagree with the negative reviews. Sure some of the more advanced facilities, vehicles, and weapons are not feasible for solo players, it requires teamwork. That's literally the whole point of the game and it incentivizes teamwork heavily. Clans of course reserve areas for themselves so they can establish large factories for the war effort. I usually find these clans more helpful than toxic, and typically have public stockpiles and help set up public infrastructure around resources. Combat…

As someone who loves this game and has put nearly 500 hours into the Airborne Update war alone and nearly 3k hours since 1.0, I cannot recommend this game in its current state. The developer's "vision" and not listening to community feedback or even not having a community manager is what is going to ultimately kill this game. The live war feels like a live devbranch war. Planes and everything around them is not balanced or optimized. More planes have been lost to server jank and bugs this war…

Foxhole is one of those games that hits different once you actually get into it. At first it feels slow, even kinda confusing, but once you understand how things work, you start to appreciate how every tiny action actually matters. 100% worth playing.

Really unique game that simulates war very well, but it has developed glaring issues over the years. Bugs remain in game for years, while new bugs keep appearing. It used to be fun but people are cheating more and more (lag switching, aimbots, griefing, alting, night hacking, etc.), ruining the game for casual players, and nothing is being done about it. Developers claim there is a new anti-cheat system in place, but it does not work. Reports about cheaters take weeks to get reviewed because…

Foxhole is a fantastic game. The logistics systems are rich and thorough, and playing as part of the community can be great. I have spent thousands of hours building, moving materials, making supplies and fighting. However, the developers seem to have very little care for what they do with the game. Before Airborne, Foxhole was a little stale, but it was mostly functional. Since Airborne, the game has felt broken. The developers have fixed many issues by simply nerfing the heck out of planes…

Game balance directly favors one faction, and has for some time. Devs are unprofessional and openly mock the "unfavored" faction. From a game dev standpoint - none of this makes sense. Game balance should be a priority, and when there are glaring discrepancies between the factions it should be addressed for the health of the game. Openly mocking the "other" faction is insane...... This hasnt changed for years and wont change in the future - do not support Siege camp.
