Gorogoa is a 2017 puzzle video game developed by Jason Roberts and published by Annapurna Interactive. 3/10 Just because an idea is original doesn’t mean it’s good. Just because something is pretty doesn’t make it fun. The puzzles, while not overly difficult, are not enjoyable to solve because they simply don’t make much sense. I’m sure the devs thought they were being really clever here, but all in all, it’s just not a very engaging experience.

The game is so creative and unlike any other puzzle game I've played. Instead of solving normal puzzles, you move and combine the pictures, zoom into different scenes, and connect them in clever ways. The story follows a young boy on a mysterious journey to collect colorful fruit for a strange dragon-like creature. There is almost no dialogue, so the story is told through the artwork and animations. The story is …

Almost a decade after I heard about Gorogoa, I've finally got to it. This is one of my favorite puzzle games I've played. What an incredible puzzle mechanic. Things start very simple and at first I was not impressed. I felt like it was more about showing how clever the developer was than allowing me to feel clever by solving puzzles. But the complexity quickly ramped up and I was able to feel satisfaction from …

Wow, I did not expect to get this many chills playing a puzzle game. The amount of world-building, lore, art, and emotion packed into such a short experience is insane. Do yourself a favor and go in blind, audio up, and no guides or walkthroughs. You can do it, I believe in you

Gorogoa is basically a piece of interactive art. The puzzles are super clever and rely on perspective in ways I haven’t seen before. It’s short, but every moment feels thoughtfully crafted. Definitely worth playing if you want something unique and a bit mind-bending.

60 of 403 · most liked firstHave been in a puzzle games mood lately - played Chants of Sennaar the other day which was delightful (reminded me of Heaven's Vault in the best of ways, another game I love), and a small but absolutely lovely game called Gorogoa with one of the most fascinating mechanics I've ever seen. Recommend!
positive · AI labelView post →Gorogoa, video game equivalent of an LSD trip. I highly recommend this game to all those who bemoan that all games are the same and nothing new gets released. Gorogoa is best described as a really pretty puzzle game with a gameplay mechanic I haven't seen anywhere else. The puzzles are non obvious at first, but at the end you get an eye for them, a little bit similar to The Witness. You have 4 different panels of a comic and you have to align and combine them in a way that they interact to…

neutral · AI labelView post →Pretty solid ride for anyone too lazy to push their braincells to the limit) Not a masterpiece, but at least it's not the same copy-paste junk you see in Steam by the hundreds. The biggest plus - it doesn't overstay its welcome, hit game over in two hours flat. Right around the time you start realizing life is passing you by while you're still shifting those braindead "frames" around. Ideal for killing time without having enough time to genuinely hate the developers.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I encourage everyone to read up about Jason Roberts' (creator of the game) story, how he came about the idea, how he started developping it because it is suuuuper inspiring for any creative person. The man literally hand drew everything AND learned game development on his own and made this masterpiece. It is so inspiring what one can do and make out of sheer determination and willpower. He didn't even have formal drawing training, just love for the art. His inspirations include: "[For my…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[Game] Gorogoa is such a small game. I did enjoy my time with it, though. I think I beat it in around 2 hours. Really liked the puzzles and ideas! Could have a lot more using the same idea, but glad with what I played. Another one down just before 2026! (Avoiding pictures because of spoilers!) 🟢🔴🔵🟣🟡
positive · AI labelView post →Built around the concept of dimensions, Gorogoa weaves its story thru a 4-panel comic format. The puzzles hit just the right difficulty, the art style feels warmly familiar, and 2 narrative threads intertwine into a complete worldview. Its steeped in a religious atmosphere art has been achieved.

Here are a few I thought were especially interesting and that I played somewhere recently: - Nuts - you set up cameras to track movements of squirrels to find their hidden stash; gameplay is placing cameras and reviewing footage - 140 - platformer stripped to its roots; the novelty is the simplicity; honorable mention *Thoth* (same idea, but twin stick shooter) - Ys 1 - ARPG with bump combat, which I found very interesting -…
neutral · AI labelView post →This was a good game. It took me a hot minute to sort out how to do it and once I did, it picked up from there with it getting progressively harder. The fourth level was actually the hardest but this was great! Wish there were more like this. It really made me think! The story art had a lot to it as well which I would like to play again to better understand the war and everything that was going on. Great game!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →19. Gorogoa. (Also played on PS, so no review here.) I think this could be categorized as a short puzzle game??, but it's also a there's-nothing-quite-like-this game. Really beautiful and creative. store.steampowered.com/app/557600/G...
positive · AI labelView post →The game is beautiful, the music is nice, the puzzles are unique. You can blow through the game in under 30 minutes (you actually have to for one of the achievements) so I recommend buying it on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the game a lot. The puzzles are actually hard and they make you think so much outside the box. Maybe I lack the proper term to describe it but it goes beyond just logical thinking, you need to find patters in terms of space and aesthetics and probably suspend your understanding of the real world mechanics because in this labyrinth every option is viable. The art is sublime and the story finds itself in a magical surrealism. You should know it IS a very short game, so manage your…

neutral · AI labelView post →I think the idea for this is very interesting, reminds me a little bit of Storyteller, but it's just not fun when most of the time it's a guessing game. Sure, there's some logical parts to it - thematical, which lead you a little to what you need to do, but in the end it's just testing until something works.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game’s audio design is exceptional, and the hand-drawn visuals are genuinely beautiful. It creates a strong artistic impression right from the start. However, The puzzle design often feels reliant on trial and error rather than logical thinking, which takes away from the overall experience. In the end, whether you enjoy the game or not largely depends on which of these aspects you value more in a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gorogoa is a very unique and creative puzzle game with beautiful hand-drawn art. Instead of normal puzzles, you move and combine different panels to change the scene and create new paths. The game doesn't explain anything, so the beginning might feel a bit frustrating, but it becomes very satisfying when you finally figure out how everything fits together. I loved the puzzles, and I also really liked how the game tells a tragic story using only visuals and music, which fits the style perfectly.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gorogoa is over-hyped. I love puzzle games, indie games, and beautiful art, so I expected to love this. Instead, I found it confusing from beginning to end. The artwork is great, but I never understood the story it was trying to tell, and many of the puzzles felt more obscure than clever. I often solved things by trial and error/guides rather than through actual logic. I know this game is highly praised, but I genuinely don't understand the appeal. For me, it was a few hours of looking at…

It’s a shame that I will never ever be able to re-experience playing it for the first time again. If I could erase my memory of it to play again I would. Unheard is another good one. It scratches the itch after you’ve played Obra Dinn and you’re clamoring for more. It depends on proximity and sound and attention to detail to play and solve. Amazing. positive · AI labelView post →Beautiful aesthetics and soundtrack, but the actual "puzzles" don't really follow any logic patterns and it's a lot of clicking around/guesswork until you find something that matches up or find a panel that does something you didn't know you could do. positive · AI labelView post →I didn't enjoy it. The game feels like 60% random clicking in the artpiece and hoping something will happen, 20% wow let's pause for a second this art is really good, and 20% actual puzzle solving. My biggest turnoff for this game is the little 20% actual puzzle solving doesn't even feel like puzzle solving. It's more like dragging objects here and there hoping that it might work and the narrative will continue. If not, well then too bad for you try something else. Which means MORE clicking.…

A game that was carefully built upon a lifetime of lived and imagined experiences, only through repeated explorations can it truly be revealed and understood.
positive · AI labelView post →Some puzzle games come to mind like Gorogoa or Chants of Sennaar, but they're not quick and can't entertain a whole gathering. Grunn, or another Sokpop game? Depending on your (found) family, maybe Queer Man Peering Into A Rock Pool.jpg? Or a Colestia title? Truly, nothing comes even close to WOBJ
neutral · AI labelView post →Gorogoa - a game that's truly a work of art, with its beautiful illustrations hinting at an evocative story that's up for interpretation. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really short puzzle game with amazing art. No idea what the story was actually about but the general idea of it makes sense. Puzzles weren't anything crazy but it's pretty satisfying to solve one, and if you end up stumped it's easy enough to just click scenes and drag things around until you realize what the game wants you to do. Entertaining and cool to look at, but unless you like puzzle games or Annapurna I'd wait until this is on sale to pick it up as it's so short.
