"Green Hell" is one of the more interesting survival games both in terms of story and how expanded the gameplay systems are. (updates for the review at the end.) i bought green hell for my fiancee and myself. she prefers to play on her steam deck while i’d be on my pc. the store page claims “steam deck verified,” so we imagined a relaxed evening, she with her deck, me using the pc. almost every core mechanic insists on a mouse, which means she has to clip a mouse (and, in practice, a keyboard) onto the deck to play properly. after a bit of research for problem solving, i found that the developers have known…

I don't mind hard survival games. What I do mind are games with arbitrary BS that causes timers to run when you're not online, so that all your food rots. I have a life, a job, and a family. The inability to disable such a garbage mechanic is the single biggest issue that makes the game miserable for me. Having a good run, stocking up on food and supplies, and logging out only to find that everything is rotted when you log back in dumb. You want to do that on a dedicated server while it's…

Green Hell is nothing but pure frustration. This game feels less like entertainment and more like a punishing, repetitive chore simulator due to its brutal micromanagement. You are forced to constantly juggle your daily intake of carbs, proteins, fats, and water just to stay alive. The mechanics feel rigged against you, managing your sleep by resting consumes a massive amount of your nutrients, immediately forcing you to go out and collect more food just to recover. Even when you cook to make…

After using this game as the reference point to which I compare all realistic survival games for the past ten or so years, I guess I really should write a review on it. This is THE realistic wilderness survival game. If Primtive Technology had a game, it would be this. If Bear Grylls made a game, he would make this one. There are other games that perhaps more granular systems like Dwarf Fortress or Unreal World, but those games are both spreadsheet simulators and primitive people didn't have…

Green Hell is an absolute, soul-crushing waste of time. You play as the most pathetic, needy, fragile little simp of a character ever put in a survival game. The entire experience is just watching this sad man constantly starve, dehydrate, and panic because he didn’t hit his precious daily macros. Hunger meter. Thirst meter. Protein. Carbs. Fats. Vitamins. Parasites. Infections. The game won’t shut up about any of it for five seconds. Every single session is the same loop of misery: Wake up →…

Don't recommend this game if you are playing with friends. There is a COMMON glitch where if you try to save, your character will freeze and you are unable to save. You can only force quit the game which will cause the save to corrupt. When you are only allowed to have one save per campaign that means, you and your friends losing hours of progress and restarting from the very beginning. Looking at forums this problem has been reported years ago and still continues to this day.

The survival mechanics can be interesting, but actually playing the game is more frustrating than fun. The controls feel clunky, and figuring out what to do often turns into unnecessary confusion instead of rewarding exploration. It has good ideas, but I spent more time fighting the interface than surviving the jungle.

This game is definitely worth the cost. It is harder and more rewarding than the forest series (which I also love). The rattlesnakes actually just sit there but you'll be shocked at how many times you are getting bit, and this isn't the forest meds are rare. Creating special bandages are required, fire is required always unless you want a jaguar ripping you apart. Water and swimming is far more dangerous than the sharks in castaway or forest. I love this game 5/5; 10/10. Its multiplayer as…

Anxiety - The Game! Green Hell throws every angst-inducing mechanic at you as soon as you've finished the "tutorial". There isn't simply hunger, you need carbs, fats, and proteins. Meanwhile you go insane, get yourself a pet leech, have a little food poisoning, and so on. All while having a self-charging walkie-talkie in case you want to talk to no one, but there's no torch. It's figuratively easier to just die and respawn with all those silly meters filled up again than to try bandaging an…

Feed-a-weakling-glass-man simulator. A game that aspires to be “realistic” and “challenging,” but tries so hard that it ends up as a feeding Souls-like simulator that will bore you to hell. If I wanted to constantly tend to the needs of a wimpy, weak, malnourished virtual character, I would’ve bought a Tamagotchi instead.

Green Hell right from the start tries to overwhelm you with amount of icons and mechanics of possible injuries, which may make quite a lot of people discouraged from continuing. I took my time however and did every achievement and I have some notes. First of all, this game was supposed to be "super realistic and hard", however it is neither of those. It's just overwhelming at first, when you get a hold of mechanics, even highest difficulty is easy. It's also not really realistic - more like…

In my opinion this game shines most in the beginning, when you're exploring and learning. You don't know what's safe to eat, you have to experiment how to craft things, how to handle diseases and injuries etc. I died a lot in the beginning, learning a little more each time, which was part of the fun for me. (It might have been on the extreme side for me, because this was my first survival game.) There's a story, challenge and free mode. The game got more and more content over the years. If…

OK I understand its title has "hell" in it, but its still simply tedious, annoying and lacks any logic. Listen, I go camping and I've seen people stay in the amazonas, they sure as hell don't have to constantly drink water every 30 seconds, they don't have to eat every 2 minutes and don't catch something that's attacking them every 3 seconds. Welcome to Green Hell, the Amazonian torture chamber that some people like myself call my “favorite survival game.” This isn’t a game; it’s a confession. It is a fun game, but man, there are some serious flaws. For one, jaguars and pumas can attack through walls, which is just ridiculous and needs to be fixed. Also one of the hints the game gives about big cats "Big cats aren't the fighting type, a few hits are enough to scare them away"... Yes, they are the fighting type if they approach you and attack you first. They can run away after a few hits, but they still attack you. I guess the devs don't know what "fighting type" is. Green Hell is one of the most intense and realistic survival games I’ve ever played. It’s similar to The Forest but far harder and way more intense every step you take in the game matters every sound, every footprint. The game is unbelievably immersive you’re actually thinking like a real person would in the wilderness. The story is surprisingly good too emotional.

Bought as a coop game, but too many bugs as a coop game. Host needs to make sure to grab the important story mission items, like the map, grappling hook, and so on. There can be host-client errors that make it so that no one gets the item if the host does not grab it first. Also, just too much going on in general with each thing. Had to restart so many times and things still mess up so didn't get extremely far in the first map.

Absolutely 10/10 would recommend playing. 100/10 would recommend catching a pet armadillo. 0/10 would not recommend getting eaten by jaguars or stung by scorpions. Multiplayer is still bugged and they are doing actually nothing to fix the issue. I found a post with the same bug from 7 years ago..

It has the basic recipe of a survival game template, but the realism is kinda sick. Even playing on the lowest difficulty without hostiles and sanity, the indicators feel like a joke... managing 4 hunger bars that drain so fast and constantly needing to inspect your body is wild. I died in my sleep just because I forgot to treat my bruise

This is such a good game, i love the jungle vibe. except that any mode with enemies is SO HARD, i couldnt survive like 30 minutes with enemies at first. but after all i really like it

Green Hell is a game about being stranded in a treacherous region of the Amazon trying to survive long enough to rescue your wife, which i have mostly spent building little houses for myself. it's been two months

A frustrating nightmare where 8 hours into the game you still cant walk 200 meters without contracting multiple deadly ailments. Its all status bar baby sitting

Another survival game that confuses 'hardcore' and 'difficult' with 'bad design' and just plain unfair decisions. This game is relentlessly antagonistic, not 'difficult'. If the game is going to spam you with hardships, spam you with spawns, spam you with infections and diseases and insects and critters and everything else, all the while having a VIOLENTLY unintuitive building system, and absolutely no instructions, then it is not 'tough and challenging', its just a bad game. There is no fun to…

the game mechanics are nice but i swear to god i'd have higher chances irl in a forest full of crazy cannibals and dangerous animals... it's so difficult and extremely punishing

Green Hell is an incredibly frustrating experience due to its clunky user interface that makes navigating menus and managing inventory tedious. The gameplay mechanics are confusing and unintuitive, often leaving me wondering how to proceed or accomplish basic tasks without looking for external help and youtube tutorials. HOW HARD DOES IT HAVE TO BE TO APPLY A BANDAGE TO A WOUND? Most survival games: 1. Harvest plant fibers with your bare hands. 2. Open a basic crafting menu and then craft a…

Build hut, sleep/save, game didn't save, die, last save us beginning of game. poof, 3 hours gone. I have gone through the intro 5 times now. No thanks, I am done. Queue the "get gud". Nah, I will go play a game that I don't have to decipher a save function.

The game is not bad if you play the story mode. But a lot of things in this game feels... unfinished. Especially the survival mode. I played survival mode for 30+ in game days .... I have never found a reason to make a base or any defensive structures. The tribe members rarely attack you, everything is one shot headshot killable ... after just surviving a few days, there is just ... nothing else to do. In short, I guess what I think this game is missing is a progressive difficulty.

I am not sure how this one got passed me when I love survival games like this. I played through story mode and really enjoyed it. The game is punishing, but not unfair. If you like games like The Forest, this is a title worthy of a purchase. A fantastic game that was even worth it for the story alone. Add in some multiplayer, and this looks to be a diamond in the rough.

This game is horrible. Not only is it full of bugs (one happened to me and another to my friend), but it’s also a shame how unfriendly it is for new players. We wanted to play the story mode in multiplayer, but the game forces you to complete the tutorial even if you don’t want to. So we both did the tutorial, and it was awful. The controls are confusing, and the tutorial doesn’t really help because it only tells you part of what you need to do. For example, it tells you to craft a hand…
