They should have added new optional servers for Reforged. The original server's economy is so deep-fried from botting that all of the items have effectively no value, and you can just ask and get infinite ecto/plat/zaishen coins for free. This isn't how the original game even was. And it isn't fun playing an MMO that is only kept interesting if you don't interact with the other players and the greater economy. That …

4,300+ hours played over 241 months I first picked up Guild Wars in October 2005 for one very simple reason: my parents refused to pay a subscription fee for World of Warcraft. It is funny how decisions like that end up shaping your life. What I found instead was a world that stayed with me for over two decades. My first character was a ranger. Then I switched to a warrior. I recommend playing Guild Wars Reforged if you enjoy vintage mid 2000s games, for it is one of the best you could possibly play from that time period. It will keep you busy hundreds, if not thousands of hours. In contrast to modern game design, the gameplay is slow paced but less handholdy and has a good amount of difficulty to it. However, I also have to dispraise Arenanet for this 20 years revival of the game. …

Critics, per Wikipedia

Guild Wars debuted on The NPD Group's computer game sales charts at #1 for the month of April 2005. NPD ultimately ranked Guild Wars as the fourth-best-selling computer game of 2005. In the United States, it sold 540,000 copies and earned $26.1 million by August 2006. At the time, this led Edge to declare Guild Wars the country's 23rd-highest computer game seller released since January 2000. It also received a "Silver" sales award from the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), indicating sales of at least 100,000 copies in the United Kingdom; and a "Gold" award from the Asociación Española de Distribuidores y Editores de Software de Entretenimiento, for more…

Just for clarity: at the time of release, "Reforged" is a relatively small update to the original game. If you already owned Guild Wars previously, simply log in using your existing account and you can play it. The main selling points of the Reforged patch are: - Steam Deck and gamepad support - They used to have a bazillion different packs for sale, but it's more straightforward now: Reforged includes the original trilogy of Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall. Eye of the North is still a DLC…

Already asked for a refund cause they removed the option to link with an Arena.net account with the launch of Reforged if you start from scratch... Unless you buy the game twice, one to create your arena account, and a second copy to launch directly from Steam. This was possible prior to December 2025, I don't understand why they disabled this option. Tried to solve it Arena.net support but all I got was generic responses and no solution.

This game has changed my life. TLDR: Get this game. You won't regret it. For the entirety of my gaming life I have long searched for the elusive 'everything' game. A game that (I believe) many gamers are on the hunt for whether they know it or not. Fabled within myth and legend is a game that seems tailor made for you and that you would be more than happy to spend the rest of your gaming time on. And the hunt for this 'everything' game bleeds into the subconscious of every game purchase.…

Whether you’re a new player or a returning veteran, now is a fantastic time to experience Guild Wars, especially with the current price offering great value. It remains one of the best MMORPGs ever made. However keep in mind, Guild Wars is very different from Guild Wars 2. Why Guild Wars is worth playing: Three full campaigns…

This game is a classic, and it's exactly how newer MMO's SHOULD play. Full party required just to kill a bunny rabbit? Check. Recruitable NPC's for when you're feeling anti-social? Check. Towns that act like lobbies, but once you step outside, the world is a private instance for you and your friends (and/or NPC's)? And random idiots can't steal from you or get in your way? Check and check. Combat that actually requires strategy instead of mindless, one-shot kill grinding? Check.…

I hate MMOs. I didn't like FF14, Warcraft, Albion. Heck, I didn't like Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 1 though? Dudes I *adore* this game! It throws all the tired MMO tropes out the window, preferring to live on its own as an RPG. I played it 15 years ago as a kid, holds up even better now that I'm an adult that can understand how the game works. it's not just nostalgia folks, this is a really fun one singleplayer. Having over 5k hours on this game, almost all of it on the launcher, I can say the game has a ton of content for $20. I do not remember having a bad time over those 5k hours. For the reviews that say its a scam because it is not a remake, they are right. It is not a remake or a reimagining, it is a game that is 20 years old, that had only two people working on it in their off time as a passion project for the last 10 years, getting a small but dedicated team to work on it. So you can't create a new account that isn't steam based, my old GW2 account says "invalid email".. and if you make an account via steam then you can't purchase items from the Guild Wars store because logging into the store via steam is broken.. Here is my initial review after 10 hours of playtime (which I know isn't much for an MMO): This is my first time playing this game (never played GW2 either). I did play many other MMO's in the past including WoW, OSRS, Eve Online, Everquest, SWTOR, New World and many others. The game itself is not a true MMORPG as the world is not truly open but zones connected via loading screens which are instanced so you cannot run into another player in the world. Guild Wars (2005) is an incredible game. Although it was originally marketed as an MMO, instead of traditionally being like one, the PvE is basically a co-op game, where you form groups in persistent towns or outposts, and then head out into an instanced world to complete missions/quests/dungeons, or whatever other objectives need to be done. You build a skill bar of 8 skills, out of a giant pool of options, that gradually becomes available to you. You choose skills from your primary and…

TLDR: It's a team-based MMO (with NPCs or with players), it's about combat, skill and making a balanced build. There are not too many other systems in the game to really do, but the combat is seriously fun and very well made. It has decent story content and it has some great long term endgame content for you to do (although I've not done too much of it). The game world is HUGE and used to be the largest handcrafted world for several years. This is a really great MMO. It has a lot of story…

My favorite MMORPG. Never played it very hardcore, but many hours put in over the years. Bought it on Steam mostly to support, and leave a basic review. I enjoy the small number of buttons. Having 8 abilities at any given time instead of the sprawling hotbars with 100+ abilities/items/macros like in some other MMOs is so refreshing. This is the right type of restriction, the kind that breeds creativity and expression. The skill system in general is wonderful. One of my favorite parts is…

Guild Wars Reforged… they really don’t make them like they used to. I came in excited — thousands of skills, endless buildcraft, the promise of experimenting and creating something uniquely mine. In reality, that’s not how the game plays. The moment I entered PvP, someone immediately pinged my skills, said “done,” and went AFK. That wasn’t a one‑off. It happened repeatedly, with many different builds. So the “over a thousand skills” fantasy? Not really. In practice, you get one or two meta…

No rolling your fingers on th keyboard in the hope that you kill something. As the years gone by I slowly but surely moved onto other things not even completing or owning all the expansions. Well now I have adult moneys and when this hit steam for $20 I could not…

I really wish Steam would give us a 'Mixed' option for reviews already, that being said after the early areas the rest of the game feels like more of a knowledge check and having the right party more than actual challenge. There are areas that are perfectly doable with Heroes/Henchmen and others that require so much micromanaging and were clearly made then with players in mind and not adjusted or changed in any way since. The community is fantastic and once you get a full team of Heroes and…

This review is particularly tailored toward the Reforged version of Guild Wars, and specifically I want to talk about the controller support/Steam Deck support for the game. Small background, I was an avid Guild Wars player for most of its heyday. It was more co-op RPG than true MMO, and over time they added the ability to add and customize NPC party members which allowed you to play it as a single player RPG. Best of all, for those of us who aren't crazy about loot games, Guild Wars made it…

Way back when, I was in my local Comet shop, copy of Nightfall in my hand weighing up if I wanted to go for it. Dad was with me, cash in hand, ready to pull the trigger. A member of staff noticed and approached me - "Ah, Guild Wars" she said "You know, it's like Gears of War but in an online fantasy style.". That was it, I was sold. Got home, couldn't get it to work. Turns out Symantec didn't like it, but Dad fixed it. Sorted. Loaded up and I was in. Quickly realised it was nothing…

Where should I start?.. After 15 years of not playing the game i decided to buy and download steam version and start all over again. I vowed to keep "grinding" my steam account until GW3 comes out instead of continuing on my main account. spent money on extra character slots so i can have all professions. right now i started my journey on dervish - finished all campaign and eotn! Love the game then and now! brings back high school memories! the no FOMO aspect and being able to play solo is…

Brand new player, this game rocks. Nothing else like it. And the guild community that welcomed me in has reminded me of old school gaming to a tee. Love this game. Recommend to anyone, new or returning.

I own a box version of the original Guild Wars game. This is very good game, after this many years I'm feeling good. I didn't had any problems moving from modern MMO's and video games in general back here, so they had to add some quality of life features here and there. Generally worth try, you don't pay sub, yet you get very polished experience that is solo player friendly. I rate it ~ Oh my god I'm old, this game is good... / out of 10

This is a game that originally launched in 2005, and in some ways it does show that age. In other ways, it feels timeless. It's not a traditional MMO, and you will not see other players outside of towns unless they are in your party, but you can play the whole thing alone with AI teammates if you choose to. For $20 you receive what was originally three distinct games that were $40 each when they came out, so as a deal it's pretty unbeatable. All in all, I highly recommend it.

I left for 8 years, came back. Started where I left. Nothing lost, no subscription, no shop popping up (buying things in the store is even a hassle) The first MMORPG I have ever played which started in Summer 2005. For just 30€ you get at least hundreds of hours content, with a celling so high, most people will never reach it. Big recommendation for all who love a cozy game, doing theorycrafting, spending only 30 minutes/day or week without having the feeling of FOMO. Graphics are old and…

On my original arenanet account back in 2005 I might have spent well over a thousand hours in this game. I remember vividly the restless nights in prophecies - with friends all over the planet. Faces I'd never meet, because well... at some point I sold my account on ebay. What can I say... I was young and needed the money. This basically means I've been out of this world for 20 years. Just before Reforged dropped, I sensed something was happening and I looked up the game, happy to see it on…

This is my 3rd account, that should be plenty a recommendation. Have played this game for 20+ years with roughly 28k hours across my two other accounts. The game has amazing replayability, but please don't mistake it for an MMO, it is more of an RPG that just happens to have a bunch of other people and has multiplayer. If you like older RPGs that are a bit slower than recent ones, this game is great. If you like an infinite amount of skill builds to play around with, this game is great.…

There is nothing else that has the gameplay loop of the original guild wars. The mixture of skill collecting + build crafting + real-time combat (not turn based) creates a unique feeling and addictive game with an unbelievable amount of content. It still baffles me that after all these years no one else as bothered to copy this formula, not even the original studio themselves...
