What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 126 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (635 of 696 positive).
Players widely describe Heaven Dust as a fun homage to classic Resident Evil games. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game is short but enjoyable, with clever puzzles and a cute art style. [1][4][5] A few players criticize the rough English translation and occasional obtuse puzzles. [6][7][8]

This is a puzzle game where you get stuck and confused every 5 minutes. I was hoping it would flow more like Resident Evil. Sometimes it is just a puzzle, other times the way forward is obfuscated by poor design. I spent the first 10 minutes stuck in the very first room for instance, as it was not obvious that I would be prompted to push a shelf if i stood in the right spot, facing a specific direction. I had …

Short, fun game for fans of Resident Evil. Simplistic controls, and only a couple of puzzles were tricky. Standard plot with no surprises for anyone who has played the RE series. The translation is OK, but has some mistakes (I think the translation makes it feel like a B Horror flick, and results in a few good laughs). Pretty good game for a 2 man development team for less than $10. I would have liked more weapons, …

Somehow this game missed my radar the last 4 years! This game is basically a Resident Evil clone in top down format, with cute polygon character models. Don't be fool however by the graphics, this is a legit serious full survival horror experience. It took me around 4 hours without a guide to beat the game, and another hour to cleanup and obtain the other 3 endings. + Ingenious level design + Complex puzzles that …

Chinese clone of classical Resident Evil. Every fan of RE knows the story about biolab under a mansion, a deadly virus and zombies. Here also is nothing new. A lot of mechanics well-known for you too. At the level of reflexes you already know what to do with red and green herbs or items with words "left" and "right" in the names. You can go or shoot, but not both. They even have their own Tyrant here. But, actually, …

This is a love letter to the early Resident Evil games, but written in crayons by someone with dyslexia. The game's short but not too short, has a few weird design decisions (you can save at any time, but loading puts you back into a safe room), and the English translation is utterly atrocious. I've never seen so many spelling and grammer errors in a game before. But not even that could spoil the fun. In a really …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Usually when you think of knock-off games you think about something low quality, not particularly good and full of shameless ripping from source material. Well, at least that’s what I think of. And Heaven Dust is an unapologetic knock-off of Resident Evil games. Yet, it’s surprisingly well made, despite being cheap and is actually really good. It does rip stuff directly from its inspirations, though. To the “I’m not sure this is legal to do” degree. Heaven Dust is, essentially, a survival…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was actually enjoying this game a lot until I suddenly wasn't. I generally recommend it to folks who like 3rd person resident evil clones, but there are a few specific things I want to warn y'all about, based upon my experience with the game. - Translation/localization is ROUGH. Several of the puzzles are not intuitive to solve, as they require you to not only understand what the developer is intending to say, but the way(s) in which translation errors might impact how you should input the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heaven Dust is a (thankfully short) Nintendo Switch handheld game that's been dumped on Steam as a cash grab. It's a very poorly done handheld port. It's a basic top down adventure game where you solve some puzzles and shoot up some bosses. It's badly written, badly translated, with poor graphics and a not-okay price point. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old School Resident Evil in a Chibi art style? You had my attention straight away. Heaven Dust very enjoyable, personally I only have 2 issues, the first being I got somewhat stuck on a puzzle but I think that was more due to a choice of words in a note than anything else and the other is that the game is a little on the short side. The latter is only a issue because I wanted there to be more because it was a lot of fun. Quite simply if you like survival horror and puzzle solving mixed with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great homage to the early 3d survival horror titles of the pc and ps1 era. Make more of these!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Random Game of the Day Day 554 - Heaven Dust Collection A chibi-styled Resident Evil duology collection inspired by the first couple of RE games. The first game is pretty short, being able to complete in a few hours but the second game is where the meat of the collection is. (1/4)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got soft locked out of beating the game because I had just spent all my ammo fighting the boss, but the game auto-saved into the safe room right before it, locking me out of the boss room. An otherwise neat game, with a disappointing ending.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That was fun for the most part. It was great until the very end. I ran out of ammo killing the boss and couldn't get past the zombie horde so I sacrificed myself instead of escaping, but hey, at least they all died with me! :D Very fun, and so many nods to Resident Evil!!! Definitely recommended. There's some typos, but really, the game is a cool treat to play so that doesn't matter. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 pushed a box into a zombie, they teleported on top of it and got stuck turns out that zombie i needed to kill and get an item from. so had to reset game - controller support. need keyboard to use items - pulling out your gun and firing is janky as hell - pushing things is janky as hell
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent Resident Evil-lite. Hardly anything ground breaking. Puzzles are good, mansion is fun to explore. Combat really isn't anything special, having only a pistol that you upgrade over the game. The horror is very light, don't bother playing if you're looking for spooks. Story is very much your typical RE-esque bioweapon stuff. If you have an itch for a survival horror game without the horror, try it out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ Classic Survival Vibe, with limited inventory and resources + Good atmosphere + Interesting puzzles + Multiple ending - Footsteps - Lack of enemy/weapon variety - Lot of backtrack

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good resident evil like game. The puzzles was really enjoyable and gameplay was satisfactory. One flaw: don't put final boss on miniature and everywhere, it should be shock for player facing him ;)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wished the game has more to offer, but I still enjoyed it with its simple mechanics and puzzles. Has a resemblance to old school survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. I don't think this is a game for people who are looking for a deep story or a long gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly good! It takes the spirit of Resident Evil and turns it into a 2.5D game. puzzles, zombies, shooting, all you ever wanted in a 2.5D RE game is in this little game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very enjoyable game, even though the level of horror was low, I enjoyed the puzzles. The game gave me a beautiful nostalgia similar to the old Resident Evil games, the real Resident Evil. Thanks to the developers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surprisingly good survival horror game set in a mansion and heavily inspired by the early Resident Evil games. The bullets are few, the reload times are long and the zombies are everywhere. There are plenty of puzzles and the story is told via notes found within the game world. The ending is also satisfying :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Felt and played like R.E. "light". 90% of puzzles were fun, with a few stretching the bounds of logic; and one in particular I wouldn't have solved,- due to either a design mistake or low res graphics (I mis-read the graphic on a wall). I always had plenty of ammo and that's a good thing, as there's no melee attack at all. The game worked well with a keyboard and mouse and I had no control issues. Overall a fun, but short game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game for lovers of classic Resident Evil games. And it's cute too! Hidden gem.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good indeed. An adventure with an old school vibe and all the improvements of today's tech. It's got great graphics, comfortable controls, free saving, journals, optional maps... All high quality. Inspired by Resident Evil, it is much better than its model. It has none of the flaws and console tropes. It reminds me of better titles such as Alone in the Dark (Infogrames) or Cadaver (Bitmap Brothers) for example. If you liked any of these games, you'll enjoy Heaven Dust. Special mention…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice small indie title that basically isometric Resident evil. Investigate environment, solve puzzle, fight zombies, manage inventory and escape when time will come. Very good game for debut. Recommended for fans of survival horror. P.S. Also found 2 easter eggs from RE: picture of Chris and Sheva from RE5 and audio sample for howling dogs that you hear outside of mansion is same to sample from classic RE from 1996. Well done, devs...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You're probably asking, "Why the hell is it called Heaven Dust if it's inspired by RE?". That is because it's named after the virus in the game that is essentially the T-virus. The gameplay is great and would highly recommend if you enjoy the early RE games (2/4)
positive · AI labelView post →Me and Hare played through the entirety of Heaven Dust and it was really fun! It's got Resident Evil vibes, but it's top down. Good lil spooky game and startled me good. You can play through the whole thing in a day.

positive · AI labelView post →Resident Evil 1, but with worse controls
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction Heaven Dust is an indie survivor horror inspired by the Resident Evil series. Pros & Cons Pros: + Interesting puzzles + Levels are fun to explore + Unique visual style Cons: - Lack of variety in enemies and guns - Not much of a survival horror - Very short (~2 hours) Story The plot is pretty straightforward. You wake up in a laboratory complex infested with zombies. As usual, your goal is to figure out what happened and what to do in order to save the world. The story is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda fun. Surprisingly good at casually recreating the classic Resident Evil feel. Worth checking out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a pretty nice take on the resident evil formula. The puzzles are mostly nice, though a few are a bit off and one was stupid and made no sense. There are little secrets here and there and some nice easter eggs. The combat is pretty responsive too. There are some unlockables you can get for your next run, and trophies that may incentivise some to play through again. There is an interesting mechanic where maps, some items and hints are available for purchase in vending machines…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play the superior sequel.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a game breaking bug in this game, there is a puzzle that requires you to push a crate over a switch to open a secret door. I could not get the crate to go over the switch, it seemed to be stuck on an invisible wall. If you can't be bothered to develop and test your game correctly, then you shouldn't be making them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just finished my first playthrough, pretty good game overall, nice nostalgia, good puzzle although sometimes can be a little frustating rating 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very Awesome challenging game Different yet simliar to Resident Evil 2 like back on PS1. Classic flashback with bit arcade style & do beware of anything that comes your way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you like the puzzles from resident evil and a small amount of light comabt, this is the game for you. really impressed
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game! A tribute to oldscool RE games. Fairly easy, but some puzzles are tricky. Definately worth the cost!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6. Heaven Dust 2 I ran Heaven Dust 1, and I am still fond of that little horror game. But Heaven Dust 2 is just a better videogame. That's all there is to it. The speedrun though? Boring. It's just so slow and unremarkable. Writing this made me want to play it casually again though, lol.
neutral · AI labelView post →Super shallow, annoying, and glitchy knockoff of Resident Evil. Just constant backtracking across the same rooms with respawning zombies, completely un-fun inventory management, reading notes that contain nothing interesting and just door codes. 0 atmosphere, 0 horror, 0 "Innovative puzzles", 1 enemy type, 1 boss, 1 gun with 1 ammo type; just avoid, there's nothing here worth experiencing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heaven Dust, developed by One Gruel Studio and published by indienova, is a compact indie survival horror game that serves as both a loving homage to and a reinterpretation of the classic Resident Evil formula. From its opening moments, it’s clear that the developers sought to capture the nostalgic essence of late-1990s horror design—fixed camera angles, key-based exploration, limited resources, and a creeping sense of isolation—all while infusing it with their own minimalist charm. The story…

neutral · AI labelView post →A puzzle action game heavily inspired by Resident Evil series. The final boss even looks like a combination of Nemesis and Birkin. Game features super light combat mechanics, with single weapon and ammo type, no other way of fighting other than running away. As for puzzles, there`s some really clever ones, some straight out of Resident Evil games and something in between. Multiple endings and a story that keeps you invested. Some backtracking and plenty of things to find in the world, some…

positive · AI labelView post →Completed HEAVEN DUST II (an improvement over the first game). Lost a side-character needed for an alternate ending, so playing again. Nailed achievements, so now have infinite ammo for 3/4 of my weapons, so should be a breeze. Wears its #ResidentEvil influences on its sleeve. #gaming #videogame
positive · AI labelView post →Yes, I beat another previously unfinished game before going to bed! Heaven Dust Should you play this? Yes Why? Indie isometric survival horror by a fan of Resident Evil! But the English translation isn't great. Had to look up one of the final puzzles due to very confusing clue. Still, I had fun!
positive · AI labelView post →You can't just take the crib notes from Resident Evil, create a cut down game, and expect a great review. It's like Resident Evil, but super shallow. There are only human zombies, a handful of puzzles, and an unnecessarily small inventory system. I think most of my playtime was running back to a storage box. It's OK, but I can't recommend it really. I played using an Xbox Controller and found cycling though the storage box inventory took longer than needed, and I would frequently raise my gun…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Based on the pictures I thought it was an action game with cute graphics. It's not. It's a puzzle game where you solve puzzles and backtrack a lot after you finds the items that open the locations that were previously locked. Maybe that's on me. But I still do not recommend it because of how boring it is and how slowly you walk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game overall, but it felt rather archaic, it's an homage to classic Resident Evil, but I think many other games do it better including it's sequel. I think the biggest plus it had was it's short play time, it achieves the classic survival horror experience of light puzzle solving and resource management in around 3 hours, and by the end it managed to avoid annoying the player with excessive backtracking. My primary issue with the game was it's controls, raising and lowering your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heaven Dust is a super fun top down puzzle/action/adventure game that's obviously inspired by resident evil games. The combat is pretty light, and the main focus is figuring out how to solve the puzzles by collecting items and then using them in the right spot. overall a lot of fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic Resident Evil but cute.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really enjoyable, charming take on the Resident Evil formula. Short but sweet. well worth a play if you can overlook the amusingly jank English localisation!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RE 1's cute little cousin.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a low-budget classic resident evil game, which offers a nostalgia feeling of 90's horror game. It didn't provide anything new, nor does it have any interesting story or character that you grow attached during gameplay, but it does satisfy the thirst of those who like this kind of game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was amazing! Clearly it pulls from RE but that's a good thing. Its a simpler version of it and honestly I love that. I feel like RE can be too cryptic sometimes but that is probably because I am terrible at it. This game finds a good in between. The puzzles make you think but just enough that you feel good about yourself for figuring them out. The story was great and I rarely get into stories so much when it is just text but this game does it well. I think RE should take some tips…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're fan of classic RE games you will absolutely love this game. I wish there was more games like Heaven Dust. I'll hope we will get a sequel.
