What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 198 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,509 of 4,131 positive).
Players praise the game's aesthetic, music, and humor. [1][2] Some find the gameplay repetitive and luck-dependent. [3][4][5] Several reviewers note balance and progression issues. [6][7][8]

I really wanted to like this game and it does have potential... but unfortunately it has a lot of issues. 1) No display on how much luck you have. 2)No idea how many "Rocks" you've played. 3) No way of measuring the amount of multipliers (this is especially lazy since they put the icons and tell you how many but there should be a way of knowing what your STATS ARE!!" 4) No way of knowing what cards you've banished …

Since I see more negative reviews than I expected I will leave this positive one. It's a fun little game with lots of unlocks. The vibes are great: good music, great style, lots of little interactions in your in-game desktop. It has a lot of personality, as mentioned in almost every review. About the gameplay. The game is a tower defense where you use cards to improve your towers. It offers 2 types of structures: …

fun but gets boring pretty quick, haven't played enough to unlock higher difficulties but the first one is just a joke once you know what you're doing, and each run consists of staring at your screen while you click upgrades every once in a while

Heretic's Fork takes familiar mechanics and combines them into a refreshingly addictive experience. This unique deckbuilding twist weaves a clever layer over a standard tower defense setup, all wrapped in humor and a striking visual style. It’s a standout indie title that will keep players engaged for hours.

My favourite deckbuilder game I've played so far - I've had much more fun with it than I have with Slay the Spire. Excellent music and atmosphere, cool small things to do between runs, lots of secrets and 100% completing the game seems like it will be fun instead of arduous. I have about 18 hours in game and I'm already most of the way there. I've enjoyed every minute past the rough beginning when I was getting to …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite its unique aesthetic, I find Heretic’s Fork to be a little empty and dull. In a tower defence-like fashion, each level sees you trying to defend yourself in one of the nine circles of hell. You’re mostly a spectator, asked to draw a hand of cards in-between waves, and spend some of those cards to either upgrade defenses, build new ones, or sacrifice resources of the same type to create even stronger things to build and cards to play. However, it actually took me a good chunk of time…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun premise but there's a lot of small things that add up to make me find it grating to play. I also feel like I had seen the entire game by the time I played 2 hours, but I kept playing regardless to get a win. I ended up doing 10 runs, two of which I won and a final one on the way to winning in which the game crashed to desktop. The game feels pretty good when things are falling into place, but after the crash I couldn't help but feel that all the issues made me not want to open the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks nice, sounds nice, but doesn't play nice. What is it? This game. Gets repetitive quickly, stages take up too much of your time per run while half of it is just sitting AFK watching mobs die. Could be better if you could speed it up to a point that you're only doing card selection, but it's not a thing sadly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the gamebreaking bug introduced in the last update has now been fixed, the game unfortunately still stands as one of the most annoying rogue-lites that I've played, due to it's bloated card system and the way it discourages you from building anything more than a single structure and damage type (2 types if you include one that it purely there to regain HP and deals basically no damage). This is because there are almost no mixed damage cards in the game. Maybe 5 from memory? And out of…

neutral · AI labelView post →After a few rounds, I feel like I have seen what the game has to offer and my main conclusion is: not a lot. The UI and art style looks fantastic, the general gamefeel is quite nice, but then when you start playing it feels like my choices don't really affect much and most of the game plays itself without much input. Trying different playstyles don't really influence the playsessions. There is an addictive element to the experience, but the unlockables never felt particularly exciting. I…

Gets the job done if you need a mindless auto battler (I wouldn't recommend getting it unless it's on sale). Did some endless mode, big numbers go brrrrrrrrrr 😂 - also the ending had a little shock value. Anyways, what I found - - -

neutral · AI labelView post →Important Tip! Under the game's settings, make sure to turn off the Visual FX before beginning play. This will resolve the crippling framerates and crash issues introduced in an update. Overview Heretic's Fork is a fun tower defense, autobattler game with a deckbuilding component to it. Tasked with preventing sinners from escaping Hell, players set up defenses to fend off the rushing hordes while listening to some really great music (if they want). The game is not difficult, and there are some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just not fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent idea but poor execution. A lot of the towers are useless because the enemy health scales so wildly you are getting nearly 7000 hp in the final mobs. And half the towers do not scale to that at all. I only really had any luck with One Man Army's +500% buff
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun if you can snag it cheap, but I can't recommend at any ordinary price. While solidly built and well presented/themed, the game is both too easy and too repetitive. Easy in that the core strategy is to stick to one type of structure (Tower or Garrison) and one flavor of damage (light, dark, or fire), avoiding obviously bad picks (i.e., don't rely on the "low damage high knockback" weapon for damage). In some games the "win with a single weapon" achievements are challenges, in this one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heretic's Fork is a hellishly fun roguelite deckbuilder that is rich with flavor and strategy, but has some balance and progression issues preventing it from being that comfort game you spend hundreds of hours on. Where it shines: - The game's tone and overall flavor are great; the music is exceptional and really adds to the vibe - The sacrifice system allows for plenty of opportunities for card selection early on and makes each run feel exciting and rewarding - Tower balance is generally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heretic's Fork is a deck-building and tower defense game with roguelike elements where you play as office manager of hell. neutral · AI labelView post →This is very strange TD game. It is artistically made, which I like, but as a game, it is not my "cup of tea". It has one central turret base and tower from where you fight. It is, as far as I can tell, heavily luck based, using cards that are delivered frequently. You can increase your chances of better cards. Depending on the cards you get and play, you can get ahead, or lose. Most of the time, I found there was nothing to do until the next card drop. There is no clear delineation of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's got a cool artstyle and aesthetic, an interesting concept of a vampire survivors-like roguelite deckbuilder but instead of walking around you have to defend an area, and the OST is pretty interesting, but... The gameplay loop just falls short, i think. Getting upgrades with cards is unsatisfying, at least in comparison to other similar roguelite games, the cards also simply feel uninspired, like there were no cards that i saw that made me go "Wow, that's unique and interesting!" While…

neutral · AI labelView post →Tower defense game that takes place in hell. Defeat 9 waves of enemies to win. Pros: - Multiple builds to try including tower, garrison, luck, etc. - Music tracks fit the horror themes with the game. Cons: - Runs are on the long side and usually last over 50 minutes. 45 minutes or less is my preferred time to win. - Each run feels fairly similar because player either picks a certain tower or garrison build. - When paying coins to unlock new cards or towers, you can't see what you are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i hate so much about the things you choose to be way too easy, simply mindless, there's barely any strategic thinking required. the only difficulty comes from RNG. it's a glorified idle game where the game pauses itself for you to make a menial decision every 20-30 seconds, just enough time for it to be an inconvenience rather than stimulating gameplay. progression each run is very, very slow. if you're going for hellfire, you play hellfire cards. if you don't get hellfire cards, you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't listen to the bad reviews, people are just bad at the game! I played through all of the torment levels (yes, even the later ones) with all different builds. This game is genuinely one of my favorite roguelites to come out in recent years and is a very niche genre but I think they absolutely did a great job on this one! I dunno if it my ADHD but it fires all of the right neurons in my brain! The mix of deckbuilding and combinging cards just hits the spot, coupled with the amazing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Verdict 👎 Not Recommended I tried Heretic’s Fork and turned it off after 10 minutes. To me it felt like a satanic tower defense… except without the classic tower defense clarity. Enemies just come in and attack in a way that didn’t feel consistent or readable, so instead of “strategy” it felt like messy chaos. This game will absolutely find its players though — mainly old-school veterans who enjoy weird, retro-style, niche experiments and don’t mind jank. My history with the game Tried it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game to pass a few hours, provided you like rock/metal, synthwave-like electronic music and retro graphics. The pros: * fantastic soundtrack if you like the music styles featured (it does start to get repetitive after ~20 hours of gameplay, but that may be exacerbated by the gameplay itself) * absolutely nailed the "corporate is hell, so hell must be corporate" humor. Reading the jokes is optional, but worthwhile * somewhat rewarding gameplay loop once you get your bearings * cool…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't really a proper game that you play. It runs by itself like an idler but still requires input from the player every few minutes, although which cards the player plays has little influence on the gameplay. Every playthrough takes away half an hour of your life with close to zero sense of achievement. I've beaten about 10 shifts, so it's not that I don't understand how to play it. It gives you tasks to complete, which makes it kind of addictive, but not in a good way, more like a slot…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not good. Fun for 1 hour. Quickly turns to tedium. - Minimal opportunity for strategy. After a confused first round, instantly turns mindless. May improve after more unlocks. - Can't view deck when adding cards to it. Why is this so common in DECKBUILDERS? (fell asleep during day 1 of game design school) - Can't review details of your towers when choosing upgrades (failed game design school) - Writers don't understand how to use a comma (got a C in middle school english class) - No concise…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is weird to recommend. It's a roguelike deckbuilding tower defense game. But really it's less tower defense and has closer resemblance to something like vampire survivors. Regular runs are pretty fun and the different characters offer a good amount of replayability. The endless mode is strange and it was harder for the game to actually run that for me to actually survive in the later waves. It has a killer aesthetic though, and decent music. It's worth picking up, if it had a demo i…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Lo-fi beats to study to" has been replaced by "heavy metal to punish sinners to." You've got a tower that leads out of Heck™ and a variety of ways to shoot at or creatures to unleash on the souls trying to escape through it. Generally not a fan of deckbuilders, but Heretic's Fork gives you a lot of leeway in how you build your tower. The only pigeonholing is when you specifically pick one of the variant runs with a weird rule set, like starting with a low base attack speed but with a card to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →youtu.be/21FWiwcbtK0?... I really enjoyed Heretic's Fork (deck builder game) but you know what's even better than evil Hell bureaucracy? The soundtrack to evil Hell bureaucracy. It really does fit with the mood of "at a desk sending emails about souls in need of supernatural punishment"

The core gameplay is addictive and easy to get into. 100% steam achievements Time : 25.4H Completion Difficulty : 4/10 Playthroughs : 11 + Missables : None Notable requirements : Complete a run with all characters and on each difficulty, complete all challenges.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A stylish but very stripped back tower defense game that lacks replay-ability and has less interaction that free flash games of the mid 00's (IFKYK). You can skip this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10 The game has a few bugs and one of the Achievements is impossible with a controller as the input on the controller, while labeled the same and performs the same function, does not register progress for the associated "TASK". Simple mechanics, a great soundtrack, easy to multi-task with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't get what this game is about. It looks like tower defense with a deck building mechanics and some hellish aesthetics... I don't get it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is now unplayable, I use to love loading up this game but it is so slow and buggy that I have now been forced to delete it from my installed games. There is absolutely no reason a game should be this buggy and slow after a year+ of optimization and patches
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've only played this game for a couple of runs so far... but it's everything I love Slay the Spire meets Vampire Survivors meets Gnorp
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Several touches from the devs made me laugh out loud several times, sick aesthetic, and most importantly a killer soundtrack. I would take a dayjob punishing sinners if I got to listen to this all day. I love finding a good combo in a TD game and this has the right blend of Corporate Hellscape & Literal Hellscape to keep me interested.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a great engaging balance as a tower defense, but I don't care.. the aesthetic is immersive and the soundtrack is awesome enough to still make a short playthrough now and then entertaining. It's not gonna redefine the genre.. but them tracks is hell fire.

neutral · AI labelView post →Kind of meh. I like the visual style and music, but looking through the possible upgrades doesn't really spark much interest. Doesn't feel like a bullet heaven or tower defense so much as an idle horde animation played behind a matching card game; there are very few things for the player to actively do during rounds, and the winning strategy just seems to be "match rarities." There's a lot to unlock but upgrading feels tedious. Might try it again later.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really good for me, my type of games, can't wait for the sequel with Tetris like gameplay
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of those reviews where I wish there was a mixed option as the game is very solid I just didnt enjoy the heavy rng needed to win some runs. Skills issues I don't mind but nothing feels worse then a run going south due to just bad luck without much one can do to prevent it. Main problem is you can't ban any cards you get during a run so the more stuff you unlock the more and more rng can nuke a run.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice atmosphere, good soundtrack. It's just too repetitive with little possibility of shaping the decks - at least in my experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think I've ever played a game in this style, but I loved the atmosphere. The gameplay loop in general felt pretty smooth. My tower defense needs were well pleased.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a quick and interesting little thing, but not enough meat on the bones here to make me want to come back to it. Overall too repetitive.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game with a decent amount of replayability. Good price point for what it is.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mostly fun, occassionally frustrating, fairly grindy. Different builds are possible but differ widely in potential and reliability. Love the soundtrack and the lore/minigame around it are fun. Would love if there would be faster speed settings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great Tower Defense, with a killer style and soundtrack your gonna want to turn up not off.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Concept is good, some of the towers and garrisons are fun to play, but honestly it felt pretty boring as I was unlocking more cards, and the rng aspect of getting worse cards as the price increased sucked. Plus the other unlockable characters are kinda too expensive which was a huge turn off for me as well.
