"BINGO! Start talking, stop stinking." TL;DR: Similar to the standard RPG trope (from collect 5 sticks to fight God), (the literal) Hermit and Pig start their day collecting mushshrooms, they are then put on a journey to save the town and end up dismantling a cog of capitalism all while trying not to take literal cringe damage from your dialogue option choice, where everything is wrapped in a whimsical, wholesome …

One of my favorite RPGs of the decade. I’m so glad I got around to playing. I was intimidated by the default combat setting to select attacks by button combos, but I surprised myself with gaining proficiency over time. By the end of the game, I felt rather triumphant! Also… the portrayal of Hermit’s social anxiety was spot on. I relate to that dude.

Hermit and Pig is a cute, fun game about the impossibility of retreating from society so long as the worst capitalist institutions on Earth remain. The game starts you in that cozy, illusory place of solitude--a slightly grungy digs in the middle of the woods, far away from anyone. But the solitude doesn't last long, and soon you're snout-deep in the precarity and violence of late capitalism, represented by the …

Hermit and Pig is great so far. Charming and and fun characters with an interesting combat system that I've enjoyed figuring out and a story that had me intrigued right away. Really excited to see where it goes and spend more time enjoying the vibes and great art style. Big recommend for anyone who enjoys cozy and compelling RPGs.

neutral · AI labelView post →Good game alert: Hermit and Pig (launching Feb 5) is a real charmer. Earthbound-style RPG that balances being legitimately funny and surprisingly weighty. neutral · AI labelView post →A gesture of love to early RPGs like Earthbound. I'm too high to elaborate much more at the current moment; however, I will say I am a huge fan of the following: - Highly customizable settings. I can remember page 181 of an AP history textbook I studied on the evening of October 7, 2003, but for the life of me I cannot manage a timer in a video game - The trinket system is very nostalgic and so many little puzzles to find some of them - i still haven't found this dude some pants but I am…

neutral · AI labelView post →Sort of a mini-Earthbound with a much more casual vibe and combat that (optionally!) includes minigames and timed button presses to keep things more interactive. I spent most of my ten hours in it with a smile on my face, and a few actual lol's. I suggest trying the demo - it was enough to sell me on the overall feel and figure out how I wanted the combat to play out. Oh, and run with the "Cringe" dialog options for the laughs. I realized too late into the game that the -1 HP each wasn't…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, this is special. I was expecting a quirky Earthbound-like RPG but I certainly wasn't expecting it to innovate on top of this formula and make something that still felt brand new. Shockingly clever, challenging, fun, and awesome. Absolutely want everyone to play this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still sad that I haven't gotten around to finishing Hermit and Pig yet, a game that by all accounts seems like a real heater.

Its very customizable, if you don't enjoy remembering combos but still want a hard fight you don't fly through those two options are seperate letting you customise your game! The art style is wonderful, the soft colours stop it being over stimulating and the sound effects despite being things like cymbals never feel jarring and it all words well. A game about two characters trying to go out of the way because of reasons to help a Town This game has alot of charm. The artstyle is good. It has some humor. positive · AI labelView post →A very enjoyable turn based RPG, filled with intentinally cringe humor. You are a Hermit that get's dragged into a corporate conspiracy when all you want is to be left alone and forage mushrooms with your pig. Combat can be changed between regular JRPG menus or a QTR minigame for each attack, where you have to remember a sequence of button promts. Your enemies (mostly woodland critters in the begining) each have weaknesss to various attacks (a gnat is probably weak to beeing slapped but a bug…

neutral · AI labelView post →43) Hermit and Pig (8hrs) I’ve really been enjoying these shorter indie RPGs. This and Fretless have been 2 of my fav games I’ve played this year. The writing here is constantly witty. Turn-based is unique and surprisingly challenging. Great game!
positive · AI labelView post →while I enjoyed what I played, I got completely softlocked because the game sucks the character into a wall and I can't move. No unstuck button, reinstalling the game didn't help or anything so my save is dead. Doesn't seem like a common glitch but I've put in too much time into it to be willing to start over from a new save.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old man eats strange mushrooms in woods with pet pig, oh no, time to socialize! This game has made me laugh so much. Really love all the settings for fights. I'm not great at quick time events or inputting combos, so the fact you can switch it to a simple "pick your attack" style and even toggle off timers is really nice. Also, the social anxiety responses are too good lmao the amount of times I've sunk down in my chair going "yeah... I'd say that too"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Already obsessed with this game. Runs super smooth, so many accessibility and customization options that even big games lack. The story and dialog are excellent. And I love the combat mechanics and collecting mushrooms and trinkets that have a bigger purpose to help you in the game. This game checks all the boxes for me.

neutral · AI labelView post →Incredibly charming RPG from beginning to end. You think it's about a silly old man and his pig picking mushrooms and becomes so much more. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That this game has been slept on is an absolute travesty. I heard nothing about this game on the typical gaming forums and channels, and literally only snagged it because the art style was cute, and it gave off those always endearing "Earthbound vibes." I did not expect a surprisingly heartfelt commentary about capitalism, environmentalism, the power of community, and mental health... But that's what I got! Also, a really fun game that does enough unique things to really feel like its own…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every part of this game is executed with so much charm. The plot is pretty standard at its core but what's special is the dialogue and battle system. It's like normal pasta (fine on its own) elevated with a really excellent sauce. The character design and art style are also very good. I also like that the battle system has options if combos or fighting games are not your thing.
