Players praise the game's emotional and thoughtful story about grief and memory. [1][2][3] Some find the gameplay minimal and the narrative slow or shallow. [4][5][6] The art style and soundtrack are widely appreciated. [1][7][8]

With so many story driven interactive experiences and story exploration titles around nowadays videogames are covering many topics and themes in various ways. Hindsight takes a form of something like an interactive photo album with a really cool visual style and a story about loss and grief. But for how pretty it is, playing it isn’t particularly enjoyable. This title was clearly developed for a touch screen control …

Another beautiful game from Annapurna that reminded me a lot of A Memoir Blue and What Remains of Edith Finch . It has a thoughtful well-written story that will resonate with a lot of people. Its core mechanic of diving into objects to explore memories is absorbing and immersive, and the soundtrack is successful at evoking empathy. While the price tag may be a little steep for around 2 hours gameplay, it remains a …

This is such a beautifully made thoughtful story. I ugly cried through the entire thing. This story captures so many aspects of grief so well. Having lost my own mom last year and having to go through all her things... I saw so many of my own thoughts, my own feelings, reflected in this game. There is some comfort in knowing others understand your grief, in seeing your experiences understood. If you've gone through …

Hindsight is a slow, thoughtful exploration of a life in reflection, triggered by the death of a loved one. Visiting a childhood home to pack up belongings, the game places you into a non-linear narrative where you experience first-hand sequences and standalone moments that represent memories of a place, of a time, of people. The game is wonderfully narrated, a single-sided dialogue from the protagonist to the …

I wouldn't call this a game. It's an interactive story. Took me 3 hours to finish. And let me tell you... The game is gorgeous, the art style just fits. The story? Well... There are too many moments in this where I thought "Who the hell was reading my mind and stealing some elements of my past when writing this?" The one scene where protagonist talks about college. I almost threw my banana at the screen. No, that's …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Hindsight received "generally favorable" reviews from critics for its iOS and Windows versions, and "mixed or average" reviews for the Switch version, according to review aggregator Metacritic. OpenCritic determined that 59% of critics recommended the game. Eurogamer felt the narration was generally unnecessary, but they recommended Hindsight on the strength of its insights on childhood and memory. Nintendo Life called the story "eloquent, mature and moving" and said it is told with "technical and artistic aplomb". Pocket Gamer praised the art and voice acting. They called the story "deeply emotional but a tad repetitive". Nintendo World Report said its theme was to push players to ask…

My life mirrored the game as we explored it. art is a beautiful expression of grief. her passing makes me *want* to make something to process my feelings. what a gift! i miss her.

My insides feel like a sponge someone is constantly wringing

neutral · AI labelView post →Narrative heavy, gameplay light interactive story... very akin to A Memoir Blue. If you like games of that ilk, check this out. Should run you right around 2 hours. Nice art, nice voice acting, really touching story of loss and reflection. Also, if you finish this in under 2 hours, don't be one of those jerkfaces who refunds!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sorry instead of getting mad about tiger parenting let me show you Hindsight, a game that has zero tropes because I wrote it :^)
positive · AI labelView post →Nice art style but the narrative is pretty much puddle deep. It didn't really make me feel much, and I say this as someone who typically gravitates towards short, narratively-driven games (and has especially been a fan of Annapurna's output).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunday I had another go with The Men Who Would be Kings in a small Isandlwana setting. Hindsight I realised that the Brits were under sized compared to the last game. Next time I will arrange the Brits lengthways so will have more room and have flanks. I’m finding the rules a bit simple.

neutral · AI labelView post →You can tell the dev(s) who made this game really wanted it to be impactful and emotional, but man was this ever a miss for me. I love games like these, point and click cozy games. But therein lies my issues with this game. When you make a point and click game, whereas there is very little interaction, its totally fine, but it does mean your message/story needs to be super interesting or rich. You need to have something important to say, otherwise the point and clicking gets to be a tad boring…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a beautiful glimpse into an otherwise horrible emotion: Grief. Grief is horrible in the sense that you hope nobody has to endure it, all while knowing that they will anyway. Grief will change you, and you can see that through this game, and sometimes grief is the window to a change that you might've assumed to be negative, but actually is what you needed to learn. It is shocking how much this game explores ideas I had thought myself, to the point of saying things that I had…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →yes feed me more sad games so i can cryyyy ekk
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the control is super confusing and unintuitive. the story is very linear with no choices (of any consequences). not really feel like a game, would be better(?) if it is a movie instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Bastille: on the 14th of July 1789 the prison held 7 inmates: • 4 forgers • 2 mentally ill men, • 1 count imprisoned at his family's request. (Rather modern prison demographics) And while the fortress no longer held military significance, the storming was perfectly strategic. The British ambassador to France reported two days later: “…the greatest revolution that we know anything of has been effected with, comparatively speaking—if the magnitude of the event is considered—the loss of very…
neutral · AI labelView post →While this game is very similar to Annapurna's other game, A Memoir Blue, Hindsight shines where A Memoir Blue fails. Hindsight is able to more generically process grief and the nostalgia of growing up and trying to look back on old memories understanding that complexity of looking at things through rose colored glasses vs with the fresh perspective of realizing how certain things may have negatively impacted you growing up. It's a simple game that grapples with grief, relationships, and…

I found the gameplay kinda boring and the narrative slow for my liking but the game does have quite a few momements that made me stop to think. If steam had a middle of the road option I would pick that but for now. Only worth a buy if you want some catharsis or an outlet to process emotions. Otherwise its a pass. --Audience -- ☑ Beginner ☑ Casual Gamer ☑ Normal Gamer ☑ Expert ---{PC…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the idea of this visual novel. The return to a childhood home to reinterpret childhood memories as an adult is an emotionally evocative theme. Using the rooms and objects in them is a great structure for reflection (literally, in the case of this game). But the writing was dreary and overly concerned with its supposed deep insight. There was little light or humor or life here--it was just unrelentingly sad. The writers missed a chance for player-created meaning in one of the final…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an interactive poem: a game that speaks to the player's soul by transporting them through the mind of a protagonist exploring their memories. I really enjoy this type of game (narrative-heavy with minimal gameplay) and this is a delightfully unique game amongst all the rest. You're given the ability to see the protagonist's memories in any angle your heart desires, and the game is very clear that we see our memories differently over time. Time, and memory, are the poetic elements in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished playing Hindsight, and wow, what an emotional journey. At the beginning of the game, the protagonist/narrator says: “The past meets with the present, fighting for space. Demanding attention to be heard, to be seen. A lifetime of memories, remembered through my eyes. Depending on where we’re at in life, our perception of a memory changes.” You then join Mary as she recalls a lifetime of memories with questions, doubts, and ultimately, resolution. I’ve played a lot of story-rich…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look, it's not awful....this is really a thumbs-sideways review. I just ultimately didn't find many aspects of the game enthralling enough to consider giving it a recommendation....... The positives are the general story-line (minus the sometimes clunky, sometimes trite/banal writing) and the graphics/atmosphere of the game. The negatives are that the gameplay is virtually non-existent (you use your mouse to move your view of the scene enough to reveal a hot-spot to click on, and it's…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is brilliant. It manages to do so much. It talks about generational trauma. It talks about death, loss, coping. It does what it needs to do, which is to be emotionally immersive. Many games are physically immersive, where you perform actions as an extension of yourself, but this game creates immersion by embodying your actions and emotionsin the role of the main character. It does what it needs to do, which is evoke an emotion through connection, without more mechanics. I'm all for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review for a game. I should work on improving that, but I hope this serves as a testament of how much I enjoyed this. It's just a very, very touching narrative, woven together in such a poignant way it was almost hard to continue at times. Hard to face. But I had to. It's difficult to write this because there's so much I want to say, but I don't want to spoil the story. I guess I'll say that this is a story not just about grief but about…

neutral · AI labelView post →I purchased Hindsight on sale and I feel like it is a nice addition to my collection of games that make me feel a bit sad. This game follows the life of a woman from birth onwards in the form of "frozen" flashbacks where you navigate the camera around and collect information about the scene (the water droplet one was tricky for me so I think it's best played on a computer?) each scene centers around an important time in the main characters life and explores the building (and breakdown) of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hindsight is basically a 3D picture book that you can rotate in any direction, so that you may see every detail of each scene. The main mechanical goal of the game is to find the right angle to reveal the next scene hidden in key objects tied to your memories. It would, however, be inaccurate to say this is the main purpose of the game. Like many of Annapurna's games, this one is more about the story than the game-play. But also similar to their games, it tells that story from an extremely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is about coming to terms with the confusing, complex feelings with have for our mothers. How are individual perspective may have led us to misinterpret their actions. This story is a bit slow in parts but it is worth it to hang in there to completion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What if Terrence Malick did an Annapurna game?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd say, it’s not exactly a traditional game, but rather a narrative-driven experience about parental trauma — exploring the complex emotions of an adult reflecting on their childhood, their parents, their failures, and ultimately, forgiveness. There are occasional issues with the triggers that move you to the next memory, and the camera movement isn’t always comfortable. But the art direction is so clever and beautiful, and the way the scenes transition into one another and deliver the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Time didn't fail us. I did." It's more of a stroy than a game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is not bad. But it's not really something to be called a game. I think it would have worked better as a movie than a game. Gameplay is mostly about rotating the camera. The story is quite saddening, but if you like that kind of stuff you might like it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game had potential but bored me within the first 30 mins of game play. It probably has a purpose but because it drags in getting there makes it useless unless your looking to fall asleep.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is boring! It's a banal click to win-er for those who can't afford a Nutflix subscription. angry developers, calm down, lol you'd better learn useful things from EA
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although I found the narration sometimes a bit on the nose and the navigation mechanic a tad gimmicky, I really enjoyed those 2 hours spent in Hindsight. The theme of the story (a daughter coming to terms with her mother's death while emptying her house) is original and interesting, some scenes are really beautiful and it's a memorable experience. There should be more games like this one, that you can play through in an evening and that stay with you for quite a long time afterwards.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hindsight's story takes a chapter or two to get started, but once it does open itself up, is it f*cking remarkable. Wow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is beyond a masterpiece! The visuals are such a treat, the gameplay is SO unique and fits perfectly with the narrative. The score adds beautifully to the emotional hook of the game. But more than anything… is the story. The relationship between the mother and daughter feels so real and raw. They did a great job of humanizing the mother, showing her love and care but also showing the worst parts of her. And experiencing the daughter trying to tackle these complicated emotions through…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very short game. While not being very active playing it (I was more viewing it), it took me about 2 hours to finish it. So, if you play faster, you can already know that you are for a short ride. However, the ride is what matters. I was originally somewhat aware that the game was about memories of family and such. However, I wasn't ready to this Feel Train that hit me. The game is packed with emotional moments and hard comments that actually made me cry in some points. Some of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Five minutes in...has it been five minutes? Who cares I'm hooked. This is a heavily narrative story and I've never seen anything quite like it. Full marks, 10/10 will buy this for my friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An incredibly valuable story about grief, identity and unprocessed trauma. I absolutely loved the concept of perceiving events through objects that were important to the protagonist (visible in the mechanics of the game). The narration, the visuals and the music nicely set the tone, allowing the player to fully immerse in the story. Must play, especially for those who are interested in the exploration of grief and/or those who seek games that could help them process their own grief (it's 2/2…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very interesting and tells you a story of loss and regret. But it is WAY too short for it's price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I sobbed :c This game reminded me of the short story The Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu (which I broadly suggest people read, but in particular if you play this game and enjoy it). Hindsight is a narrative-based point & click exploration game that focuses on a woman reflecting back on her life, and more specifically, her relationship to her mother. The story was a bit slow to become engaging, but the atmosphere/style of the game + the core gameplay mechanic kept me interested. And then I found…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd give this game a 20/20.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A touching and heartfelt story about grief and the memories that help us move through it (or make it harder to move on). Hindsight is such a great way to spend a couple of hours. It also reminds you to be curious about the people in your life that you care about. Grab the game, let the experience wash over you, and see what you come out with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hindsight tells a beautiful story about grief and growing through it. The premise may sound sad, but you finish the experience with a refreshing feeling of hopefulness.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a beautiful game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hindsight: leave Rojas in for the entire game. I know he's better against lefties but still...
neutral · AI labelView post →I don't deny that Dems were responsible to a point, after the fact. Relying on the rule of law and utilizing Constitutional principles were not particularly effective when the game is fixed and a large number of the courts are partisan. Hindsight does no good. Both parties are not the same.
neutral · AI labelView post →I loved Hindsight. It seemed a bit generic at the start but man was I emotional by the end. It made me realize how time is finite and how we have to have those hard converstaions we have been avoiding. Also reminded me to spend as much time as I can with the people I love.
